-U.S. Camp-

-April 1943-

Eddie was walking back from the latrines when he heard a yelp of surprise. Eddie turned to see Mike Li looking up from his cot.

"Jesus Christ, Kent, I thought you were a werewolf or something." Breathes Mike Li as he sits up.

"What?" Eddie asked confused.

"You ever have a dog or cat growing up?" Mike asked.

Eddie smiled remembering the orange tabby he had rescued when he was five, he nods his head.

"You ever see them in the dark and how they've got headlights for eyes." Eddie bust out laughing, though Mike seemed annoyed at Eddie's reaction but joins in the chuckle moments later.

"Shut the heck up!" growled one soldier who was silenced by a pillow being thrown at him. In a few minutes quite of a few soldiers were up telling each other to be quiet only to wake up another. After a few more minutes of pillow throws, and curses did the tent become quiet again.

"So I had a couple of blue headlights?" Eddie teased as he got comfortable in his cot, which had become more and more comfortable over the past months.

"Yep." Yawned Mike.

Eddie closed his eyes.

"Oh shoot, I was supposed to go pee." Said Mike remembering why he was up in the first place. Eddie barely waved bye, as he drifted into the darkness.

"We're under attack!" Peggy screamed. Eddie's eyes heaved open to see the camp was on fire. He and his cot were knocked over by a soldier running to toward the shooting and firing only to be blasted by blue energy to become dust.

Eddie pushed his cot aside. He made a habit of sleeping in his uniform; yes it was crinkled when he started the day, and yes, his cold hard gun dug into his hip, but that's why god gave people a left side.

A Hydra Soldier pointed a large black gun at Eddie. The enemy fired but missed as Eddie dove for cover only to have the blue shockwave flip him into the hard mud.

Eddie groaned and turned around to see the Hydra soldier aiming at Eddie. Eddie heard the loud moan from the weapon and covered his face with his arms as if that would protect him. His last wish was to see Agent Carter one more time. The blue light collided with Eddie and sent him on his back but instead of a loss of breath or excruciating pain, he felt like he was given a shot of adrenaline.

Eddie moved his arms away from his face and looked at the hydra soldier who looked just as confused as Eddie.

Eddie quickly pulled out his sidearm and took aim and pulled the trigger. The gun just made a clicking sound. It seemed there was weapon malfunctions everywhere. The hydra soldier rushed forward and ripped the gun out of his hand before he gave a violent kick into Eddie's stomach, which rolled him back a few feet. Eddie groaned.

The soldier picked up Eddie's sidearm. "Idiot the safety was still on." Teased the guard as he undid the safety of his pistol and pointed it at Eddie. Eddie looked up at the guard. 'Kent luck finally got me.' Eddie thinks clutching his stomach.

Blam!

The hydra soldier falls to the ground to reveal Mike Li with a smoking rifle.

"Come on, Kent!" Yelled Mike as he extended a hand to help Eddie up. Eddie rose and grabbed his sidearm from the dead hydra soldier.

"T-thanks man." Eddie said.

Mike attempted to discern the chaos that had become the camp before replying, "You'd done the same for me, lets go!" Mike charged forward and Eddie followed.

Bullets and blue light flew wildly that dawn. Eddie had been shot in the shoulder but friendly fire than by an enemy.

Eddie watched as a soldier was carried past him had been riddled with bullet holes, it seem many surviving soldiers were harmed by their comrades, as those who had been hit by the enemy were ashes.

"Alright that should do it, Private Kent." Says the doc as he pushes Eddie off the cot, "No heavy lifting, you got that."

Eddie brushed some curls behind his ear, "sure thing, Doc."

'If you can only tell that to the Colonel' Eddie thought as he walked out of the med tent.

"You all good, mate." Asked Mike Li after he noticed Eddie approach.

"Yep, some dummy on our side shot me." Eddie groaned flexing his right shoulder.

"If I knew we were allowed to shoot each other, I'd have filled you with some lead months ago." Hodge said. Eddie and Mike stared at Hodge trying to discern what reaction they should have.

Hodge groans, "Oh shut up you man babies."

Mike burst out laughing, and Eddie followed suit, which seemed to have a positive effect on the grumpy Hodge.

"Do you know what happened?" Mike finally asked after a moment of childish giggles.

"Sergeant Barnes thinks it was a Hydra patrol." Eddie and Mike exchange glances.

"So we're finally close to locating their base." Mike said as he placed his left hand to stroke his chin in thought. Eddie had thought Mike had repeated this action as a joke but after a couple of months with the man, Mike seriously did this when deep in thought.

"Don't go partying just yet, Inquisitor, Hydra had been sighted in multiple countries, this is probably just another installation for a nearby city."

Eddie licked his lips; he had thought this Hydra thing was just a dumb hoax but he now realized they were a real problem.

Mike slugged Eddie's right shoulder, "Ready for some action." Eddie winced as his bullet wound flared.

Hodge laughs, "Private Kent's only good for digging trenches and nothing more." Hodge sneered at Eddie, "Which means if you're not able to work then you should be packing your bags, home." Hodge left with that insult. Eddie stuck his tongue out, though he couldn't help but to agree with Hodge, he was terrible at learning and remembering military strategies or codes, he literally couldn't shoot to save his life.

Mike looked at his friend trying to think of something to say but couldn't.
