Natalie comes into the room, she looks exhausted but Evan quickly asks "how's Sky?" This gets the attention of Kelly, Casey, Nate and Carla.
Natalie sighs saying "The surgery went better than expected, she's expected to make a full recovery. She's gonna have to be on meds to help with her lung not being rejected for the rest of her life but other than that and a puffer for doing physical activity she's gonna be just fine. You have a fighter on your hands." Natalie smiles at the couple.
"Oh thank god!" Evan says as tears escape his eyes.
"Can we see her?" Kelly asks, his voice shaking.
"Of course once Will discharges you you all can go see her. I'll go get will so he can discharge you, Kelly." Natalie explains and everyone nods.
Evan squeezes Kelly's hand as natalie leaves.
"Shes gonna be fine." Kelly and evan say in unison.
Will comes in and discharges kelly, then Natalie shows the couple plus casey, Nate and Carla to Skys room.
Evan and kelly sit on either side of their daughter as casey stands by Evan and Nate stands by kelly. Carla stands at the foot of the little girls bed.
Sky starts to stir awake and she yells "daddy, Papa!" She was having a nightmare.
"Princess we are right here, along with uncle Matt, Carla and Nate." Evan says soothingly to his daughter.
"Hey baby girl, you scared us." Kelly says with tears threatening to fall.
"What happened? I remember going to the bathroom at school, then the fire alarm blared, I thought it was a drill so I took my time anyways, but when I went to go back to my class there was smoke everywhere." Sky explained.
"There was a fire in the chem lab, and me and your papa was on scene we were looking for all of you, but papa is the one to find you." Evan tells his daughter.
"I was to slow getting to you and you got a lot of smoke in your lungs so they needed to do surgery when you got here to replace your lung." Kelly says letting the tears fall.
Evan looks at his husband as he says "dont, you weren't to slow. You did everything you could to save sky."
Sky pipes up saying "I know you wouldn't do anything to put me or any of us in harm's way, Papa, thank you for saving me!" Sky says, reaches her arms out for a hug that Kelly gratefully gives her.

It's been a week since the fire and sky's still in the hospital Kelly and Evan along with everyone at 51 has been taking turns to go see the little girl.
Kelly's still struggling with the guilt of having failed Sky. Evan keeps telling him it wasn't his fault and he did his best but it doesn't help Kelly unfortunately.
It's Halloween and Kelly and Evan are getting the kids ready for trick or treating. They agreed to take Nate, James and Avery out and then theyd have a party with all the 51 kids at the house once sky was better.
Nate is being a pirate and James is a ninja and Avery is a lady bug. Sky was suppose to be Cinderella but they kept the coustume so she can play with it when she gets home.
"Evan where's Nate's pirate hat?" Kelly yells through the house.
"On his closet shelf." Evan yells back to his husband.
Just as Matt, Sylvie, Eddie, Stella and Chris knock on the door. They were going trick or treating with the Buckley-Severides as Casey and Brett had Amelia Sylvies little sister for the weekend.
"Hey, you guys! Come on in." Evan greets brightly.
"Hey, there's my princess." Casey says taking Avery out her fathers arms, which she's okay with cause her uncle Matt got her. Casey's peppering kisses over Avery when Evan says to Brett. "I'm pretty sure he just stole my daughter." As he pouts. Everyone laughs as Brett says "yea I'm pretty sure he did. Then Evan sees the nervous little girl hiding behind sylvies legs.
"And whose this princess?" Evan asks kneeling down to Amelia's height.
"Evan this is my little sister Amelia, Mia this is mine and Matt's good friend Evan, can you say hi?" Brett says and asks the little girl.
"Hi." Mia says with a small wave.
"Hi sweetheart. It's very nice to meet you. I love your belle costume. My older daughter wanted to be Cinderella but she's in the hospital right now so she can't, unfortunately." Evan says pouting exaggeratedly for the little girls sake who giggles at Evan's face then says "that's to bad Cinderella was my second choice." Mia says matter of factly with a little nod.
"Are we stopping by Med to see Sky?" Casey asks
Evan nods as he gets up off the ground, as he says "yea we want to get a picture with her even though she's in the hospital. It's their first Halloween with us and I wish it was better than it is.
Eddie pipes up and says "you and Kelly are doing your best for those kids given the circumstances, don't beat yourself up so much."
"Eddie's right, those four kids are very lucky to have you guys." Casey says handing Avery to Sylvies outstretched arms.
"I appreciate that guys." Evan says just as Kelly is coming down stairs with Nate and James.
"Well now that's one cool pirate and awesome looking ninja." Casey says ruffling both boys hair.
"Hey watch the hair uncle Matt." Nate says with a pout that reminds Evan of Kelly.
just then Evans' phone blares.
He looks at it and sees Maddies calling.
Evan answers as he says "hey Mads, happy Halloween."
"Evan, I'm so so sorry." Maddie say as he hears ruffling on the other end.
"For what maddie?" He ask, nervous of what his sister might have done.
"Mom and dad saw the news of the school fire, they are pissed they are on their way to Chicago should be there first thing in the morning. Me and chim are on our way. We are at LAX right now." Maddie says
"Crap. Okay thanks for the heads up maddie. I gotta go let me know when your plane lands and someone will pick you guys up." Evan says, shaking slightly so Kelly is by his side in an instant and puts a calming hand on his shoulder.
"Love you, baby brother, united front." Maddie says
"Love you big sis, united front." Evan says and hangs up the phone.
"What's wrong Ev?" Kelly asks after he gets the kids to go play for a few.
"My parents saw the knees about the school fire. And you know how we were front and centre of that news story, my parents are on their way, they will be here in the morning. Maddie and Chim are on their way now from LAX. I haven't talked to my parents since they stopped therapy with me after they dropped the Daniel bomb on me." Evan explained, shaking slightly, Kelly kissed Evan's birthmark to try to calm the younger man down.
Evan sends Kelly a grateful smile as Casey says, "we are on shift tomorrow, let them come you have a whole firehouse that's going to have your back, no matter what!" Everyone nods their agreement, as Kelly says
"I'll be there for this shit show, because I'm always gonna have your back baby, no matter what. I'll go in with you in the morning then I'll come back when I know your okay, as I'm still not clear d to work."
"Thanks Kel, thank you everyone, for your support I appreciate it so much." Evan says, choking up a little at the thought of so many people caring for him.
He doesn't want his parents to mess up the amazing life he's built for himself. He hopes they don't.
After a few minutes Evan says "well let's get trick or treating!" The kids all cheer from the playroom and race out to grab their bags to go trick or treating.
The first stop is at med.
Evan updates Skys file so his parents are not allowed to visit her but Maddie and Chim are.
Then they all go see the little girl.
"Hey sweet pea, how are you feeling today?" Kelly asks their daughter.
"Good, so I don't understand why I'm stuck here and can't go trick or treating. " the little girl says, crossing her arms and pouting, making Kelly think she looks exactly like Evan.
"Sweetheart you only have to be in here a few more days then you get to come home and we are gonna have a big party for you, ok?" Evan says and asks the little girl as he brushes a piece of her hair away from her eyes.
"Fine, can I have cake and candy?" Sky asks
"Whatever you want, baby girl." Kelly says, making the little girl smile at her father.
They all crowd into Skys room and get a picture as a group thanks to Natalie who takes the photo then they take one just as a family.
They say their goodbyes to Sky then head out to trick or treat.
Once at the Herman's Kelly pulls Evan into his side and says "I'm so happy this is our life now, I love you so much Ev, and I'll always have your back, I know your scared with your parents coming but I'm not going anywhere I promise you that." When Kelly finishes talking he presses a tender kiss to Evans birthmark than his lips.
"I love you Kel, and i'm happy this is our life to. Thank you for always having my back. It means the world to me and so do you and this family. I love you."
Evan says as kelly just smiles brightly at the other man.
They both enjoy the rest of the night with their kids and chosen family. It's all they could've ever wished for.
