"Saphron, when will Dad let me have my own Pokémon?" It was a question Saphron Arc had been asked numerous times by her 8-year-old brother.

"Jaune, you know that Dad said you had to wait until your swordsmanship is up to par. Every Arc must be a-"

"As strong as a raging Tauros, as fast as a sneaky Accelgor, yadda yadda. All that isn't really fair! Blanche isn't as fast or strong as any of those Pokémon!"

With Blanche being Saphron's younger sister, the 2nd of the Arc siblings, Saphron could attest to the accuracy of his words, however, "Blanche makes it up in her intellect. It's not every day a 17-year-old is able to surpass our father and mother in Pokémon knowledge. You on the other hand? You need to study more, squirt," Saphron said, ruffling Jaune's hair.

"I'm smart enough! I watch all of Champion Ozpin's lectures whenever he's on TV!" Jaune huffed. "I also watch Professor Goodwitch's specials on Pokémon typings!"

Saphron shook her head. Although Jaune's enthusiasm for Pokémon was well-known throughout the Arc household, Saphron had less than positive words to say about Ozpin's lectures. Although he was the Remnant Region's Champion, Ozpin was a less-than-stellar example of a teacher.

More than one time, Saphron had walked in on Ozpin rambling about a Pokémon's "individual aura" as if he was a Lucario or an Aura Guardian. Utterly ridiculous.

"You can do more than watch Pokémon battles or Elite Four specials on TV, you know. We don't have a library at home for nothing."

Jaune stared back at Saphron as he waved his arms around. "Then why are we out here at the training field!"

Saphron snorted, "I doubt you'd be in the library if I let you loose. Don't hate me for being a good daughter and obeying Dad."

Jaune scoffed, "Don't you have gym leader duties to do? I don't think your gym would be at home like mom's." There was a secondary building away from the main house where a lot of trainers from all over Remnant came to challenge Jasmine Arc, the matriarch of the Arc family.

"Tut tut tut, I'm a gym leader-in-training right now. I won't have my gym until next year," she said, waving her index finger in front of Jaune, "And even then, I'll travel home just to be able to make sure my only brother is well-prepared to be a Pokémon Trainer!"

Jaune groaned at his sister's teasing as he waved his sword, practicing his swings. "I'll just train so hard that you won't have to come home! I gotta get my Pokémon!"

Saphron fell over dramatically. "Ugh, I can't believe my own brother would say something like that! I spend so much of my free time just for him as well," she said, crying crocodile tears.

Jaune ignored her as he swung his sword. Only one thing was on his mind. 'I gotta get my very own Pokémon!'

"Who's that Pokémon?" a kid's TV Channel asked. This particular question-and-answer type only appeared midway through a show, but was always a treat for the audience.

Three little blonde-haired girls yelled out in unison, "It's Ekans!" They were very proud of themselves, all three of them without a doubt in their eyes.

"It looks like Seviper to me though," Jaune said, looking at the shadowed image, "Seviper has larger fangs and a bladed tail. Most Ekans usually have a rattle at the end of their tails."

Jaune's words captured two of the younger blondes' attention as they oohed and ahhed at his knowledge.

"Wow, our brother is so smart!" Sable Arc, the 2nd youngest said. Although small, it was apparent that it did nothing to make her voice small as well. She ran around the small space next to the couch, cheering for her brother.

"Mmm Mmm!" Nodded Violet Arc, Sable's twin sister and the quieter of the two. She, the youngest, sat next to Jaune with excited eyes glued to the screen.

"That's not fair that everyone swapped answers like that! It could still be Ekans!" complained Azure Arc, the princess of the Arc family and the 3rd youngest. Although not the youngest or most delicate, she always had to have something pretty on.

"Well, we'll just keep watching then," Jaune said, getting into a competitive mood due to his sister's praise.

After various commercials, the show came back on. "It's… Seviper!"

"It's Seviper!" The twins cheered, clapping their hands and dancing around.

"Hmmph, I guess Seviper is cute enough that I'll forgive it," Azure said, with her face not facing Jaune out of embarrassment.

"I thought Seviper was more cool than cute," commented Jaune. As the show came on, the four Arcs calmed down and huddled together on the couch.

"Daaaad, when can I have my own Pokémon?" A young 10-year-old Jaune Arc asked for the umpteenth time to his father.

"Jaune, if I've told you once I've told you a thousand times. You're not-"

"Ready yet. I know. But when will I be? Saphron got her Pokémon when she was 10." Jaune crossed his arms in indignation.

His dad kneeled down to his level, meeting his eyes. "Look, I know you're eager to get out there and train your very first Pokémon, but you come from a long line of warriors, Jaune. Before you can take care of your own companion, you need to be able to take care of yourself. Now tell me how your last match with Saphron went?"

"That's not fair. Saphron always makes me spar with her Sandslash. She doesn't teach me any sword techniques!" Jaune said, pouting.

His dad chuckled at his son's disgruntlement. "Your sister teaches through experience. If you impress her, she'll let you learn everything there is to be an Arc." His father put a hand on Jaune's shoulder. "Until you can defend yourself, I can't trust that you'll be safe around your partner Pokémon. What if you injure yourself playing or even training with your partner? It's too big of a risk."

Jaune sat there, put out by his father's restrictions. Being in the household he was in, while he was thankfully allowed to play with his older sister's Pokémon, the ownership of his very own Pokémon had always been something Jaune had looked forward to. His sisters frequently recounted tales of their adventures with their partner Pokémon. Heck, even his mom and dad would bring up their own stories of how they first met their partner Pokémon.

And yet, they delayed his chances of getting his Pokémon.

"Don't worry so much about it, Jauney. We can still play together," His little sister said, walking up to him on the couch,

Jaune forced a smile to his face, meeting his sister's eyes as he patted her head. "As much as I appreciate that, I still can't wait until I can get my very own Pokémon."

"Then why don't we have a little match right now? All you have to do is impress me and Dad'll give the ok," Saphron said with a wide grin, taunting as she reclined on the other couch.

Jaune blanked out at that comment, choosing to ignore his older sister as he ran away. "I don't wanna fight Sandslash today!"

Hearing a noise from the upstairs attic, Jaune decided to investigate the noise. Was it another Zubat deciding to stay in the cold, dark corner of the house? Or was it a rodent like Ratata scrounging around for food?

As Jaune climbed up the steps to the attic, he noticed how dusty the room was. It was a little odd that this room wasn't used that much taking into account the number of bodies in the house at all times, but feeling the cold air brought a chill down Jaune's spine, he saw the reason for that.

Jaune crept around, not wishing to touch any of the dirty boxes covered in dust and Spinarak spiderwebs. They must have come and gone during the summertime. Seeing a glint of light, Jaune's eyes were drawn to a strange piece of metal. Walking closer to it, he was in the coldest part of the attic, with a box lying right under the window. 'This must've been the window shown to be at the very top of the Arc Estate,' Arc thought.

Bringing his attention to the piece of metal, Jaune blinked his eyes seeing the full piece. It turned out to be a short sword with a sheath right by it. 'What's that doing here?" Jaune thought, bringing his hand close to grab it.

Suddenly, the sword came alive, being held up by what looked to be telekinesis. Was there a Psychic or Ghost type somewhere in this room? Seeing none, Jaune could only watch as the sword floated in front of him.

"Be the Hero that I could not, young warrior." Jaune heard faintly, by a booming deep voice. Jaune looked frantically around the room, searching for the voice, but the only thing in the room that could possibly be communicating is the sword!

Jaune took a deeper look at the sword. Although short, its blade hadn't dull over what would've had to have been years without use. Its hilt was decorative and functional, showing that it must've been used by someone in power, perhaps someone powerful as well.

An image of an old bearded blonde man with a ponytail took over his senses for a second but that image dissipated almost immediately after seeing it. "Are you an actual ghost?" Jaune asked, staring straight on toward the sword.

Jaune didn't hear a response as the sword changed, molding itself to become something else. Its edge shone as a glint of light shined down the blade. The hilt, decorative as it was, reconfigured to become a simpler shape, keeping the indentations that suggested the sword's age. A tassel grew from the end, looking to be a red fabric, the ends having weaves that appeared like hands as it picked up the sword's hilt which morphed to fit the new design of the sword.

A single eye appeared on the hilt, just before the blade came. A big black pupil appeared, blinking a few times before settling its eye on Jaune's figure.

Jaune was now staring at a Honedge.

"Uh, are you all right?" Jaune asked. He didn't know what to say in this sort of scenario. What was a ghost doing in his attic and why did a sword that happened to be there turn into a Honedge?

These questions did little to dictate how Jaune would react to a Pokémon. The Honedge was young, having an impressive appearance. Similar to a newly forged sword, it was a perfect blade, free from chips or cracks.

The Honedge's eye widened, seemingly frightened from Jaune's presence, shrinking back to its sheath, backing up against the window.

"Hey now, I'm not going to hurt you," Jaune said, bringing his hands up in a sign of surrender. Jaune may have been only 10, but he knew that a baby Pokémon like Honedge would likely need to get a bearing on its situation.

Honedge's pupil scanned over Jaune, making sure his feelings were true before coming closer to him. Jaune raised his right hand to his head to scratch it as he tried to say "See, I'm no-"

Honedge took his blade out of his sheath, decidedly swinging his blade around as it felt threatened.

Jaune grunted as his right arm got nicked by a shallow cut, backing up from the blade. 'It must've gotten spooked by my sudden movement. That was my bad. How am I going to calm it?' Jaune thought.

Honedge's frantic movements were cutting up the area around him with boxes being torn up in the process. 'If only I can calmly talk to him. It isn't going to listen to reason right now. Maybe if I hold it, It'll allow me to talk,' Jaune thought, slowly entering Honedge's range, getting hit with another shallow cut.

Jaune couldn't help the grunt coming out of his mouth. It really hurt to get hit like that, but Jaune had gotten hit harder training. Jaune's arms got slashed again and again as he reached out to Honedge. 'This is… nothing!' Jaune thought as with one last push, he grabbed Honedge's hilt.

Using both hands to hold Honedge down, Jaune spoke calmly. "Honedge, I'm sorry for my sudden movements. I didn't mean to scare you like that. It's all ok, Honedge. I'm not trying to do anything bad to you."

Honedge squirmed under Jaune's grasp, resisting a little less violently. 'This is working! I just need to get through to it!'

"Honedge, Dad said that I couldn't have a Pokémon yet because I wasn't ready, but if you'd like, would you be my first friend?" Jaune asked, spilling his heart to the Pokémon.

Honedge stopped squirming. Jaune slowly retracted his hands, preparing for the worst as Honedge rose up, staring at Jaune.

Then, its eye looked down, to Jaune's confusion. Honedge floated up against Jaune's arm which is now covered in cuts and rubbed up against them.

"Hey, it's alright," Jaune said, allowing Honedge to apologize, "It was scary, right?"

As Honedge and Jaune made up with each other, the old blonde warrior's ghost looked over the two of them.

'Jaune, this is the best I can do for you right now. Become a hero that all of Remnant can acknowledge, my descendant.'

It was an exhausting afternoon in the Arc residence for Jaune as he was subjected to his idea of torture: Saphron's training. Kangaskhan, although not the most aggressive Pokémon Saphron had, was by far the best-suited one to spar with Jaune.

"Keep those legs moving, Jaune. You don't wanna get hit by Momma Khan's claws!" Saphron said, sitting on the sidelines, holding Momma Kangaskhan's baby in her arms. She snickered as the baby cheered for his mom.

"I'd like to see you fight a Kangaskhan!" Jaune said, ducking over a strike, using his smaller height to weave in, striking his sword to Kangaskahn's side. Momma Kangaskhan reacted harshly, waving both claws around as Jaune backstepped to safety. "The only person I see you fighting is me!"

"Only for you, lil bro. Don't you just love being able to feel the love of your sisters?" Saphron said, watching as her large Pokémon swiped Jaune's feet with her tail.

"The only thing I feel is pain!" Jaune said, rolling away from his opponent before jumping back to his feet.

"Hmm, must be Marigold's fault. I certainly wouldn't hurt my little brother and maybe push him to grow stronger. Why, that would make me… perhaps the best big sister ever," Saphron said, grinning at her joke.

"At least Marigold actually fights me herself," Jaune sighed as he attempted to enter into Kangaskhan's area of attack, using his speed and size to his advantage yet again, ducking where it matters and invading the blindspots Kangaskhan has.

"Best big sister would probably go to Blanche or Forest. I either get Pokémon facts through painless studying or I get some sweet rest time." Jaune barraged Kangaskhan with a flurry of strikes from all over the awkward areas to attack from.

"I always knew Forest babied you too much," Saphron muttered before watching as Kangaskhan tracked Jaune's movements. "And I thought you hated studying!"

Jaune saw as Kangaskhan's eyes turned to him as her right arm slammed into the ground next to him, causing a shockwave that threw his balance off. "I do! But it's a heck of a lot less painful to deal with!"

Kangaskhan's other arm slammed into the ground on Jaune's other side, pushing him back and making him disoriented.

"That's enough, Momma Khan," Saphron said, getting up and releasing the baby Kangaskhan so it could reunite with his mother. "Then how about we call it quits for the day?"

Jaune was confused by Saphron's weird actions. Usually they fought and sparred for the rest of the afternoon, but now it was only the start of the afternoon. "And what's the catch, Saphron? Extra studying?"

Saphron put a finger to her chin as if she was actually thinking about it. "How about you make some friends?"

"Friends?" Jaune asked, perking up at the word. "What made you think of that?"

Saphron grinned, "Oh nothing. Maybe just some words of wisdom from my senior gym leader. She's coming over and bringing some kids your age."

"What?" Jaune yelled, "And why am I only hearing about this now?" Jaune asked.

"Because it was only decided yesterday. Anyway, wash up! You can't be smelling like a Trubbish when they get here!" Saphron urged on, pushing Jaune towards the door.

"Yeah, yeah. You don't have to push me," Jaune said, walking of his own volition towards the direction of their shower. Someone his age was coming, huh. Maybe some excitement pulsed inside Jaune's feelings. Not that he would admit it, of course.

The call of a Pokémon grabbed a bored Jaune's attention as he waited with Saphron and the twins for Saphron's gym leader senior.

Jaune's eyes widened as his eyes caught on to the claws of the Pokémon that came into view. With long angled legs, the muscular body that has three heads attached to it ran carrying three people.

"It's Dodrio!" Jaune shouted, to the oohs and ahhs of the twins.

As Dodrio slowed to a stop, a woman of stature dismounted it. A big bun atop her head, with white hair combed over the right side of her face.

She took a look over at Saphron and Jaune before eyeing the twins. A thin smile came onto her face. She started her hands to grab the 2nd passenger off of Dodrio.

"I-I can get off myself!" a sharp, but uneasy voice sputtered. The voice appeared to belong to a beautiful young girl who looked to be a similar age to Jaune. She was almost a carbon copy of her supposed sister except with the bun being a ponytail in the back.

The older woman chuckled at her younger sister's reaction before letting her go. The younger girl huffed and shook off the nonexistent dust on her dress.

The older woman then brought what appeared to be an adorable young boy off of Dodrio. The boy stuttered out his thanks as the sister thanked her Dodrio and returned it.

Saphron took this as a sign to introduce everyone to catch them up to speed. "Jaune, Violet, Sable, meet Winter Schnee, one of the gym leaders of Atlas. She holds the Brilliant Badge and is a heck of a trainer if I do say so myself."

"I appreciate the evaluation," Winter said, pushing out her little brother who was attempting to hide behind her. "Weiss, Whitley, this is-"

"Saphron Arc, Gym leader of Vale and Daughter of Jasmine Arc, the "Demon of Vale"," interrupted Weiss, the younger girl speaking up matter-of-factly.

"Wow, Mom is called that?" asked Sable, "That's so cool!" Her enthusiasm as she came up close to Weiss with sparkling eyes to Weiss' embarrassment.

"I-I guess it is?" Weiss said, not knowing how to react.

Saphron chuckled. "I can see they're going to get along just fine, all according to plan," Saphron teased with a faux evil laugh.

"Yes, I see the Arc family is as welcoming as always," Winter said, "Weiss and Whitley could use some friendly faces. I'm worried about their social skills."

"Sister!" Weiss scolded, face flushed, "I would appreciate it if you didn't say things like that! I am perfectly capable of communicating with my peers."

Winter's eyebrow raised, "Really? Then go play with them now. Saphron and I will leave you kids alone."

"Right, I've been meaning for a rematch anyway. We won't have to hold back if they aren't here," Saphron said.

"Ah, but I wanna watch a Pokémon battle!" Jaune complained, eager to see more new Pokémon in person.

"Go on, Jaune. You can entertain Weiss and Whitley. Give them a house tour," Saphron commanded.

"Fiiine, Come on, you two. I'll show you how we do things here. Sable and Violet will help out too, right?" he asked the two.

A wave of emotions flashed over them as their determination pulsed. "Of course!" the two said. Sable led Weiss while Violet carefully guided Whitley.

"Th-hank you," Whitley muttered, bringing a grin to Violet's face. She was happy to help.

"Hmph, I-I guess learning about how a family with two gym leaders lives wouldn't be too bad of a way to spend my time," Weiss said with her head upturned.

"Then follow me," Jaune said, leading the way into the house with Sable and Violet leading the Schnee kids.

And so a storm by the names of Jaune, Violet, Sable, Weiss, and Whitley brewed in the Arc residence as they went through every area. From showing off the bedrooms, to the kitchen, the living area, nothing was passed up.

"So this is the library. It has a lot of books and I've probably read a fourth of them at this point," Jaune said, sweat dropping as he muttered the last bit.

"Really? You don't strike me as the type," Weiss said, giving a closer look to him. The initial awkwardness had been shaved off during the tour, but Weiss' personality was something Jaune had to get used to.

"That's because I'm not," Jaune chuckled, "My older sister, Blanche, makes me study. She's my dad's assistant and suuuper smart. It's a little hard."

"Your sister is your father's assistant? But your dad is directly under the executive director of the Pokémon league!"

Jaune's eyes followed Weiss' bouncy expression as her incredulous eyes widened. "Oh yeah, that's right. From what she tells me, Dad has her researching stuff on Pokémon habits and the trends across Remnant with trainers and how Pokémon have been changing over time. It's all stuff that goes way over my head though."

Weiss stood up straighter hearing that. "As the heiress to Schnee Corp, I'd like to request you tell me more about that research!" Her eyes shined with excitement. From what Jaune could tell, she really cared a lot about Pokémon and Pokémon training by proxy.

Jaune laughed. "You don't have to be so stuffy to ask something like that! I'm sure Blanche is around here somewhere. You can ask her about it."

Weiss was troubled by that statement. "Bu-but, that's a little…"

Something Weiss said, however, seemed to have greatly interested Sable. "Wait, you're related to the Schnee Corporation? Isn't that the store with all the cool things Saphron has?" Violet nodded, agreeing with her question.

Weiss gleamed at that question, taking pride in her family's business. "Oh, of course Gym Leader Saphron would use our services. We have only the finest trainer equipment!" Whitley seemed to perk up at those words, but he stayed quiet.

"See? We're both from important families, right?" Jaune asked, eliciting a nod from Weiss. "Then we're equal then. You can just speak casually with us. That's what Sable and Violet would like, right? That is, to speak like friends?"

Weiss' eyes widened as the twins' interest grew, both of them having grins grow on their faces as their brother put the idea in their head, a new friend.

"Yeah, that's right, Weiss. Become our friend!" Sable said.

"I-I would also like to be your friend," Violet added.

Whitley seemed a little put out being seemingly forgotten, but Jaune put a hand on the younger boy's shoulder reassuring him. "How about I show you some books on Pokémon while Weiss gets convinced by the twins.

Whitley, embarrassed, but interested, nodded.

Jaune took him to a particular shelf, one that he had been to when he was younger and he pulled out a big book with a strange yellow circle shape.

"The History of Pokémon Myths and Legends. Why did you show me this?" Whitley said, speaking a lot of words unexpectedly."

"It's a book I actually wanted to read when I was your age. If you want, you can borrow it. You'll just have to bring it back, ok?" Jaune said.

Whitley looked at it, running his hand across the cover. "I'll just read it while I'm here. I don't want to impose."

Jaune's eyebrows went up. "You don't need to worry about something like that if I'm offering."

Whitley looked worried. "But, what if your sisters wanted to-"

"They'll get their chance. They're a little younger, so they're not the most proficient at reading. "

The male Schnee still had some hesitancy with his decision, but nevertheless took it as he said his thanks.

When they rejoined the twins and Weiss, it appeared that the twins had overcome Weiss' barriers. They were eagerly interacting informally with her, getting into her personal space, and getting a half-decent response out of her.

'Hmm, not a bad way to spend an afternoon,' Jaune said, watching his sisters turn to him. "Alright then, I hope you enjoyed the Library because there's more to see!"

And with that, they went through the rest of the main areas of the house, some of them impressing and some of them surprising the two with how simple it was for such an affluent family.

But a problem arose.

"Now where do these stairs lead to?" Weiss asked, seeing them off at the end of one of the long hallways in what is essentially a corner of the manner.

Jaune got nervous seeing exactly where she was pointing to. "Uh, those lead to the attic. No one goes in there anymore, so it's not really worth checking out."

"But I want to," Weiss said, "I think it'd be cool!" She acted her age, being a little spoiled, but simple.

"It's not cool at all, trust me. It's just dark, dingy, and has way too many Spinarak in there."

"Spinarak? I wanna see some," Weiss said, eagerly to the cheers of the twins who always loved the sight of Pokémon. She climbed the stairs to Jaune's distress.

'Honedge, please hide well. If any of them blab his existence out, I'm for sure going to have to give him up,' Jaune thought.

Whitley seemed to have some hesitation to follow his sister due to Jaune's protests, but he followed along in haste. Sable eagerly followed after with Violet coming along.

Jaune was left alone in the hallway, struggling to find a way to keep his secret. 'I'm going to have to expand my circle of people who know about Honedge. I don't think I can get out of this one,' Jaune thought.

Jaune climbed the stairs up to the garage following after them.

"Wow, I haven't been up here before!" Sable said with Violet echoing the sentiment, nodding.

"I can see why," Whitley said quietly.

"It is a little frightening up here. Most of the house is so bright. I can't say the same about the attic." Weiss said, running her finger across a dusty box before flicking it away.

"The attic is only used to put away some of our family's old items. You won't see anything too special up here," Jaune said, trying to get them uninterested in the attic.

"Nevertheless," Weiss said, a finger to her chin, "I see some potential here. Look here!" Weiss pointed to a dark corner of the attic which held a large case.

"Ooh! What's in there?" Sable asked.

"Show us!" Violet said.

Whitley helped Weiss shine some light on the case with a weird device of his. It revealed the case to hold something very valuable and cool for children to see in person.

"A suit of armor!" Weiss said, puffing her chest up in pride. Whitley looked on with a gasp of shock and awe. Violet and Sable crowded together to get a closer look as they cheered at their find.

Jaune nervously shuffled around, looking for Honedge. A glimmer of light shined on his head out of nowhere, almost as if it was reflected… Jaune looked up at the roof. Right underneath the only window was Honedge, floating. It seemed to have understood the situation at hand and was keeping out of sight.

Jaune had briefed him before to stay out of sight so they could play together, but their time together hasn't been long. Honedge wasn't the most agreeable Pokémon, treating Jaune as if he was immature, mirroring a lot of what his father has said about Jaune. Nevertheless, Honedge had been a companion. Staying levitating up there was a good cover.

There should be no outward sign that Honedge is ever up there, except for the reflection the sword gives off.

Whitley took his eyes off the suit of armor, seeing Jaune distracted. "What's wrong, Jaune? Isn't the armor cool."

Jaune gave a look and to be honest, he was very impressed with the armor. He could just see himself acting as a hero with all that on, however, his mind trailed back to the worry for Honedge's reveal. "It's very cool. I didn't know my family had that sort of thing. All my dad talks about is how to get stronger physically and how that'll help with training your Pokémon. I never could've imagined our family would have this."

Whitley held some suspicion but kept it to himself as he gave Jaune a smile. "I hope you don't mind my sister and I getting curious."

Jaune perked up at that comment, shaking his head in response. "It's not that, trust me. I'm sorry if I made ya uneasy. I'm supposed to be the guide, right?"

Whitley looked uncomfortable at Jaune's sadness, not knowing how to respond. "You're doing a great job, I think! My sister opened up so much. I've never seen her like this." He kept his voice down, not wanting his sister to overhear him.

"That's just the Twins' ability to Charm as if they're Pokémon!" Jaune said, chuckling. "I've been put in situations all the time thanks to them."

Whitley laughed along with them, gaining the attention of the other people in the room.

"What's so funny?" Violet asked innocently. Her eyes were bright and commanded attention.

Jaune placed a hand on his little sister's head. "Nothing much, squirt. Just an inside joke." Ruffling her hair, a small smile showed on Violet's face.

"An inside joke is only such when the context isn't there, yes? Then why don't you tell us the context?" Weiss asked. Although her tone is combative, the look on her face showed pure curiosity with a hint of excitement

"Right? Tell us the joke!" Sable demanded. Her confidence was always a scary assurance to Jaune.

As Jaune stood there, being poked and prodded by the 2nd youngest and Weiss, a smile came to his face. 'They're good people. Although Violet and Sable could make a mistake, I think I can trust them enough. Weiss and Whitley seem like they'd enjoy meeting Honedge. Surely they wouldn't rat me out to my dad,' Jaune thought.

"It was about the suit of armor. I said that, with a Honedge by my side, I'd look like a real knight in that!" Jaune said, grinning.

"From what I've read about them, a Honedge will only acknowledge their trainer and let them battle with them if they prove their strength," Weiss said.

"Y-yeah, I remember that. Since Honedge are usually the spirit of people, their will must be attuned towards the sword," Whitely added.

"Uh, does that mean that they were good swordsmen?" Violet asked.

"Most likely," Weiss confirmed.

'Huh, that's pretty cool! Does that mean whoever became the sword was an awesome swordsman?' Jaune thought, earning some pride that took root by his heart.

Giving a quick wink to Honedge, Jaune said "I think I should be a knight, guys. It's a pretty cool job, right?"

"We don't have Knights anymore, idiot," Weiss said, "We have Pokémon Rangers, Officer Jennys, and more!"

"And according to your own qualifications, you'd need a Honedge and a suit of armor," Whitley said. "We have the suit of armor, but do you have a Honedge?"

Jaune stared at each one of their eyes. Taking a deep breath, he smiled and said, "Of course I have a Honedge. Come on out, my friend!"

Like something out of a fairy tale for the others, a Honedge appeared from the sky in front of Jaune.

Whitley and the twin's eyes widened in both surprise and excitement. Weiss, however, was in pure awe. The way Jaune commanded Honedge to appear and it did was pure magic. "I-Is that your Pokémon?"

Jaune grinned, "Yes. I met Honedge a few weeks back up here. I was scared you guys would reveal my secret to my parents, but I think I trust you enough," He said, winking.

Violet and Sable gathered close, inspecting Honedge with joy. "We won't tell mom and dad!" Sable said, assuring him.

"Are you not allowed a Pokémon, Jaune?" Whitley asked, gravitating towards Honedge as well.

Jaune sweatdropped. "My dad in particular made up a rule that I have to show my strength in some way to be able to own one. I get taught by my older sisters to get stronger to meet his expectations. Meeting Honedge though, I knew I wanted him to be my partner Pokémon."

"Wow, you really are like a knight then. That's so cool!" Whitley said, getting caught in some excitement.

"Heh, I appreciate that, Whitley. If you want, you can hold Honedge. He'd let you do that." Jaune said, gesturing to Honedge who's eye agreed for him.

Whitley's eyes were shining with joy as he asked, "Really? He'd let me do that?" Jaune nodding was all the assurance he needed as his hands made to Honedge's hilt.

Holding Honedge up properly, he could feel the weight of the sword, making him struggle to hold it steady. Honedge was a pretty big sword for a child and being a heft Bastard Sword certainly didn't help.

"You look so cool!" Sable said. Especially standing up in front of a full suit of armor, the twin's really loved to see any cool poses with Honedge.

Weiss, on the other hand, felt conflicted. Although she was happy to see her brother get excited over Honedge and to even be able to hold it, he was taking too much of their new friend's attention. "Let me try!" Weiss got impatient, urging her little brother to give her a turn with holding Honedge.

"Careful, Honedge is very heavy!" Whitley said. With some help from Honedge's Ghost-like levitation, Honedge was transferred safely over to Weiss' hands. That is, until she felt the full weight of Honedge.

"Urgh, so heavy!" Weiss said, struggling to be able to hold the blade side of Honedge up. Although Whitley definitely wasn't strong enough to properly hold Honedge, Weiss even more so had a hard time.

"It's ok, Weiss. Most kids won't be able to hold Honedge too well. Sable and Violet would likely have even more trouble than you, so don't get any ideas," he said, lightly scolding the twins who deflated upon hearing such news.

"That's. Not. Fair!" Weiss said, attempting to raise Honedge up to prove herself. "I wanna be like a knight too!

'Could it be that she's jealous of Whitley?' Jaune thought before nodding internally. Weiss wanted to shine in her own way. Throughout the tour, she loved the attention the twins and Jaune was giving her. Of course, at the library, Jaune gave more one on one time to Whitley, but Weiss was preoccupied with the twins there.

Whitley looked on at her sister with some fright behind it. He didn't know what his sister was trying to prove, but he just didn't want her to hurt herself accidentally!

Jaune decided to put an end to Weiss' sad attempts to be a swordswoman and took Honedge from her hands. Carefully, lifting Honedge up and on his shoulder, he said, "I think that's enough of that. Maybe if you trained with your older sister like I did with all of mine, you'd have the strength. The same goes with you, Whitley."

One would think that Jaune ordering around the Schnee siblings like this would elicit a negative response, at least from Weiss, but both Whitley and Weiss took his advice to heart with Weiss saying, "I see. Maybe I'll take her up on her offers then."

Whitley added, "Yeah, I wanna get as strong as you." For Whitley, Jaune was the toughest 10 year old he's ever seen.

Jaune scratched the back of his head in embarrassment. "I'm not that strong. Compared to my sisters, I'm nowhere near strong enough."

"But you'll just keep getting stronger, right Jaune? That's what you told me," Sable said with Violet agreeing.

Jaune put his other hand on Sable's hair, ruffling now his other sister's hair. "Yeah, you're right."

Honedge pulled its weight together, gloating out of Jaune's grasp as it floated around with a discerning eye.

Honedge pulled itself into its Sheath mode as he looked over Jaune playing the mature one among his sister's and friends. 'Truly, I have chosen a trainer worth his salt in maturity. And I'm sure he'll only gain a brighter head on his shoulder in the future,' Honedge thought.

Weiss and Whitley unfortunately weren't able to play around at the Arc residence very often. When Jaune asked his mom, she cited that as a gym leader, the Schnee's older sister had a lot of responsibilities as well as their company, Schnee Corp, likely occupying a lot of their attention.

Sable and Violet as well missed their new friends, however, Honedge more than made up for their loneliness. The two were excited by their secret with their brother being something this special, his very own first Pokémon.

However, this secret was not destined to last.

One day, after a hard training session courtesy of Saphron, Jaune trudged into the house only to be met with his mother and Blanche standing there disapprovingly. Jaune didn't realize what the cause of these expressions were until his eyes shifted over to the blade floating in the air behind them.

Busted.

"How long have you been going behind your father's and my back?" his mother interrogated. "You know that you're not allowed a Pokémon yet."

"Uh, er-" Jaune was tongue tied. Perhaps he could deny that-

"This Honedge is yours so don't try to deny that fact," The second oldest Arc sibling said, "I've noticed you and the twins hanging around the attic area recently. When I went to pick up some old documents for my research, I found out the reason for it." Her expression wasn't malicious, however, her matter-of-fact tone put some pressure on Jaune that amplified his worries.

"I heard the noise in the attic and met Honedge there. I knew if I told anyone, it would get to dad and I'd lose my first Pokémon," Jaune mumbled, dejected. "I knew that Honedge is meant to be my partner. I don't know how, but I just know!" Jaune increasingly got more adamant in his words as his confidence grew.

His mother knelt down with both hands on his shoulders. "Jaune, I know how you feel, but your father and I were very clear that you had to wait for our approval. We want to make sure you have the maturity necessary to take care of another being like that."

"I am," Jaune assured, "Ever since I've met Honedge, I've looked up all the books in the library that deal with Ghost Pokémon. I've learned that Pokémon like Honedge, don't even need to eat food. Some choose to absorb their nutrients or use a berry for its healing properties, but don't need it in their day to day life."

Jaune continued, "I've learned so much about Pokémon to make sure that I keep Honedge good and healthy. I've trained day and night with Saphron to get stronger with the sword. I won't accept anyone, but Honedge as my first Pokémon!" Honedge floated over to Jaune, making Jaune grin at the support of his Pokémon.

Jasmine Arc didn't know what to say to her only son. She appreciated his enthusiasm and his heart was in the right place, but he was so young. He still had a ways until he would find his path like the two eldest Arc siblings.

"I say the squirt is ready," Saphron jumped in, being a spectator since the start of this. Jaune looked up towards his sister. "I mean, don't get me wrong. You're not really at the same level we were when we were your age," Saphron gestured towards Blanche, who nodded in agreement, "But you're improving fast. You've gained a drive that didn't exist before."

Jaune didn't dare say anything that would make her change her mind, so he simply nodded.

"I guess that's why I haven't heard a 'When can I get my own Pokémon, Saphron' out of you for a while," Saphron said, noogie-ing his head.

"I can also see that Jaune is ready," Blanche said, tilting her head. "He's been attentive in his studies and has stayed on top of the workload assigned. That and I can see the trust built up between him and Honedge. That doesn't come easily with most Ghost types. They're the second hardest type of Pokémon to tame."

All the attention was on the matriarch of the Arc household as she stared at Jaune and Honedge. Her eyes didn't waver until they blinked as she let out a sigh. "Fine, I'm convinced you can take care of Honedge."

Jaune was ecstatic, hugging Honedge's form tightly. He was able to stay with his best friend. His emotions were all over the place, but happiness was the prominent emotion present.

"-But, your father has the last word on this issue. You'll have to wait until he gets home for him to make a decision."

Jaune's grip on Honedge tightened in worry. His father was always weirdly insistent on his standard being followed. Jaune didn't want to think of any possibility of failure, but he couldn't predict how his dad would react.

But after an hour or two, when his dad finally arrived home and was up to date on the situation, his immediate reaction to the problem shocked him.

"If you and your sisters think that you're ready to own a Pokémon, you're going to have to prove it to me. Battle against me Jaune. Show me the bond between you and Honedge."

Jaune recoiled at that challenge. 'Beat dad? He's as strong if not stronger than mom!' He thought. Shaking off his doubts, he stepped forward, "So, if I beat you, I'll get to keep Honedge?"

His father hummed. "You won't know until you try."

"Oh dear," Jaune's mother sighed, before dragging his father away, "Let's get this started already. There's no need to drag this out."

"D-dear, I can walk on my own," Jaune's father said, gathering himself and sighing. "I expect you and Honedge in the arena soon."

Jaune stood there, not really knowing how to handle this situation. Any Pokémon his father uses will be a tough opponent and Jaune hasn't exactly battled with Honedge yet.

"Jaune," a voice called out, his mother putting a hand on his shoulder. "I may not know if you're ready to be a trainer yet, but an Arc doesn't give up. I expect a good match," she said before following after her husband.

Jaune looked over to his remaining sisters who were watching. Saphron gave a grin. "I'll be refereeing the match. You better not prove my words wrong or else I'll double our reading."

"Take note of your Pokémon's advantages and try to maximize your results from there," Blanche said. "You've researched enough about Pokémon to understand the type advantages, but there's more to battling than that." Saphron and Blanche turned to follow after their mother and father.

Jaune stood with Honedge floating around him. With a simple plan forming in his head, wires were connecting as a way to victory came to him. Slapping both of his cheeks to wake himself up, Jaune stretched to loosen himself up. "Let's go win this thing," Jaune smiled at Honedge.

Honedge dutifully agreed, letting out a small cry in agreement. Jaune moved one foot after the other, making sure to calm his heart for the battle ahead.

As Jaune walked away, twin heads popped out from around the corner. "Wow, our brother is really cool!" Sable said, the other head nodding fast.

"Really cool!" Violet agreed.

Another person walked in front of them, saying, "Oh, this'll be so much fun! Jaune has to let me beautify Honedge properly once he gets a chance!" Azure called out to the twins, "Let's go cheer him on. Dad will have to go easy on him if we're there!"

As the family prepared for the match, Jasmine couldn't help but throw out one final remark to her two eldest. "Not at the same level as we were at your age, huh? I seem to remember that quite differently, girls." She said, lips curling up into a smirk at their embarrassed reaction.

"W-we were just trying to get him focused!" Blanche called out, her and Saphron hurrying to get away from their mother and any further teasing. So what if it wasn't true? They didn't want their precious baby brother getting a big head!

"This will be a one on one between Jaune, the challenger, and Alexander, husband and father to two beautiful gym leaders," Saphron said with a wink.

Jasmine laughed at her daughter's silliness while the other spectators rolled their eyes. The whole family was here to watch the match.

Jaune gripped his palm in anticipation as he stared at his father who stood stoically.

"Trainers, release your Pokémon!" Saphron called out.

"Honedge, my friend, it's time to battle!" Jaune said, calling it to appear in front of him. It floated slowly to its spot, keeping a cautious stance.

"Flygon," his father called out. The Pokéball revealed the powerful dragon that shook the room with his cry.

Jaune could only stare at his opponent. Flygon was especially powerful, growing to be particularly large for its size with lots of power behind it. His margin of error was low, but he won't- can't give up.

Saphron waved her arm out. "Let the match begin!"

"Flygon, Bulldoze." Alexander commanded. Flygon stomped the ground, causing cracks to appear in the stadium. Flygon raised his wings and prepared to rush Honedge.

'Dad really isn't messing around here. He's not going to give me time to breathe, so I should respond with the same aggressiveness!' Jaune thought.

"Automize into Slash, Honedge!" Jaune yelled. A bright light shone around Honedge as it shed the unnecessary parts of the blade. Immediately, Honedge raised its blade and enveloped itself into a sharp edge. 'Since Honedge has the ability, No Guard, the only chance I have at minimizing damage is to match attack for attack.'

As Flygon flew towards Honedge, intent on stomping it into the ground, Honedge raised itself upward before falling towards Flygon at full speed. The two clashed, causing shockwaves to pulsate through the arena. Jaune couldn't help but be pushed back by the winds before he stood firm, stabilizing himself. His father on the other hand, crossed his arms, unimpressed.

The two Pokémon weren't standing down, but it was apparent that Honedge was being pushed back. 'I need to get the jump on Flygon, but how do I get around No Guard restricting Honedge's movement?' Jaune questioned. "Hmmm, just maybe," Jaune hummed, "Metal Noise, now!

Honedge pushed back against Flygon before emitting a horrible scraping sound. Flygon shuddered at this sound, recoiling in pain. Jaune followed up his command, "Use this chance for Swords Dance, now!" Honedge hypnotically danced with a unique energy, however, this left Jaune's father with an opportunity.

"Flygon, shake the pain off and use Earth Power!" Flygon pulsed with power as he brought his foot down, making the cracks that were formed earlier, have power erupt from them.

Honedge was still deep in his dance, but it would surely end before Earth Power reached him, but that window is tight. 'I'm only going to get one chance,' Jaune though, 'I better make this one count.'

As Earth Power approached, Honedge shined with newfound energy. "Now, Honedge!" Jaune commanded. The burst of energy from the ground enveloped the arena, including where Honedge was.

The Arc family of spectators held their breath as they watched what could be potentially the end of the match. Earth Power had left the arena in a dust cloud so dense, Honedge's status remained unknown. Violet, the youngest, however, noticed a thin light in the middle. As the cloud subsided, her eyes widened. "I-It's Honedge. He's alright!"

Alexander observed as Honedge's point faced Flygon. Jaune cried out "Flash Cannon!", resulting in the collected power of light to fire from Honedge.

Alexander raised an eyebrow. "This isn't enough." He waved his arm. "Flamethrower." Matching power for power, Flygon's Flamethrower met the Flash Cannon, canceling it out completely.

But that was all within Jaune's plan.

"Slash, now!" Honedge had already closed the gap between it and Flygon in the time the special moves struck. Honedge enveloped itself into an edge sharper than ever, the effects of Swords Dance in full effect.

Then, the Sword Pokémon struck blade-first into Flygon, causing Flygon to grunt in pain. Alexander smiled, "The battle is over, Flygon, use Crunch." Flygon acted accordingly, attacking Honedge with its fangs. Honedge had no time to get away and took direct damage.

Flygon, having Honedge in its mouth, spit him out to the middle of the field, showing that Honedge had fainted from the blow.

Jaune hung his head as Saphron called the match. "The battle is over. The winner is Alexander Arc and Flygon!"

Jaune's younger sisters could only look on as Jaune walked over to Honedge and picked it up, cradling it in his arms. Their father recalled Flygon after some words of affirmation and walked up to his son.

Sable couldn't take it anymore, going to her mother and older sister, saying, "Jaune and Honedge battled so hard! Doesn't that mean Dad should allow them to stay together?" The second youngest Arc crossed her arms and huffed in outrage of the unfairness in the situation.

Blanche comforted her sister. "Dad's Flygon certainly is very strong. I've only seen a few Pokémon that have fought on the same playing field as it."

Marigold Arc chuckled, "Saphron hasn't done a half bad job getting Jaune into shape. He's as impressive as his Pokémon."

Jasmine nodded and smiled, "I think Alexander came to the same conclusion as we did." She observed as her son's form visibly brightened up into a cheer as her husband shared a few words with the boy, ultimately allowing him to keep Honedge.

Violet and Sable cheered, running over to their brother, who was getting a noogie from Saphron. Azure followed after, cheering for another cute friend. Everyone soon followed after. Jasmine looked to Forest, who had had a serene smile throughout the entire match. "I guess it's your turn to teach Jaune the ropes of Pokémon care."

Forest put her hand to her cheek in amusement. "Oh, yes. My dear little brother is a little inexperienced, but his bond with Honedge is very bright and I can only see it getting brighter."

Jaune may not have been aware of the lessons already being stacked in the future for him, but he was ecstatic to finally get to welcome his partner Pokémon into his party.

Waking up with a yawn, Jaune got up from his bed with some purpose behind his feet. Getting dressed with all his gear ready, he looked in the mirror to check himself.

The youthful face of a 16 year old stared back at the boy. It was about time. Jaune smiled as he looked over to his partner Pokémon, Honedge, who was sleeping next to the wall. 'Even after I went ahead and got a bed for him to sleep on, he decided to act like he's an object again,' Jaune thought, shaking his head.

Honedge, sensing his master was up, raised himself into the air and floated around Jaune. "Alright, alright, Honedge. Ready to start our training today?" Honedge waved in agreement.

He had trained so much over the years after battling his father and gaining Honedge as his partner Pokémon. Jaune's eyes rolled over to the stack of books that could almost create a wall. Blanche and Forest had given him a lot of studying, some he liked and some he didn't like. At this point, Jaune felt prepared enough.

Leaving his room, he fell into the routine of the day.

After a refreshing breakfast, courtesy of his mom, Jaune watched the morning Pokéchannels with Azure and the twins, each with their partner Pokémon.

Glameow was all curled up in Azure's lap while Growlithe sat next to Sable, happy and dutiful. Violet's partner, Skitty, was the only wild one, running around in circles in front of the tv.

"Oh, get Rosie to stop blocking the tv!" Azure grumbled. "I'm trying to watch The Pride of Mistral, Pyrrha Nikos! As only her biggest fan, I can't allow Skitty to make me miss her match in this tournament."

As Pyrrha's Pokémon took the stage, Jaune's interest was piqued. "T-That Steelix is seriously cool!" Jaune grabbed Skitty in place, taking her to Violet for her to hold before coming back to his seat and leaning forward to watch.

Azure was taken aback from his enthusiasm. "Hmph, usually you're not paying attention at all when I'm talking about Miss Pyrrha, but now you've come around to acknowledging how cute she and her Pokémon are? How admirable." Azure got especially haughty when it came to her biases, however, her comments were lost on Jaune.

"Wow, that Steelix is so shiny and large. I bet its diet is especially tailored towards keeping its body in tip top shape," Jaune muttered, analyzing it. As the younger Arc siblings watched the match go on, each was engaged in different ways.

Sable looked to her partner, Growlithe. "Benji, just like that strong trainer, we're going to get stronger too together, right?"

"Gro-growlithe!" her partner Pokémon responded, his tongue hanging from his mouth as he panted in excitement.

"R-Rosie, we'll do our best!" Violet said. Her partner excitedly ran around her, startling her.

Meanwhile, Azure was combing her Glameow's fur as she proudly smirked at the result of the match. "It's only natural that Ms. Pyrrha wins the finals. That Miltank may have been strong, but any Pokémon under Ms. Pyrrha is the BEST! That's the Pride of Mistral for you!"

Jaune just sat there, thinking of the way Steelix maneuvered the stadium despite its large body and other details. 'Steelix was able to utilize its defenses to become even tankier than Miltank. Any special attacks were dodged and any actual attack didn't put a dent into Steelix's shiny rock skin,' Jaune thought. "Honedge, it seems I might get greedy seeing such a good example of strength. Maybe we'll test some maneuvers like that Steelix pulled off."

Honedge hovered upward in agreement, sensing the future training that it was going to undergo.

"Hey, squirt, it's time for training," Marigold said, peeking her head into the room.

"You ask for me earlier and earlier every day!" Jaune complained, getting up and doing some light stretches. Marigold was much rougher than Saphron. She didn't care if her strikes could break bone, she expected his instincts to help him react better. There was a reason none of his younger siblings had trained with Marigold yet.

"Ahh, I just want to spend some quality time with my little brother. Is that so wrong?" Marigold laughed, pushing Jaune out the door.

As the door closed, the younger sisters simply shivered at the animosity Marigold was letting out. "Mari has way too much bloodlust for her own good. She'd be a lot cuter without it," Azure muttered. The twins nodded simultaneously.

After what was another near-trip to training hell, Jaune was on his way to the bathroom to take a quick shower. A stoic face blocked him in his path as she said, "Go to the library after you're done cleaning up."

Jaune sighed, grinning slightly. "Sure thing, teach." Blanche nodded at his answer, walking away afterward. His schedule was packed, but Jaune appreciated every little bit of help he was getting.

A cold shower later and Jaune was ready to think! Being taught by a genius researcher like Blanche allowed for some things regarding Pokémon nature to come easily to Jaune, but the theories surrounding Pokémon history still eluded him. Jaune had a minor interest in the Pokémon wars waged in Remnant's past, but as he learned more, his interest died as it became less about Pokémon and more about regional resources or political action.

"And although the Mankey evolutionary line is similar to the Darumaka line, their foundational attributes diverged with their regions," Blanche explained.

"But Unova isn't that much hotter climate-wise than Kanto. How did one type become fighting and the other fire!"

Blanche shook her head. "There's not a definitive answer to that. All that's been studied is their bodies as the Mankey line is usually smaller than the Darmanitan line. Many say Arceus designs each Pokémon specifically, but others point to Entei, Suicune, and Raikou's creation and say other Legendaries Pokémon are delegated that privilege."

Jaune sat in his seat taking in her words. If even a Pokémon Researcher of Blanche's caliber didn't know the direct answer, the right one likely wasn't out there. Or maybe he'd ask Arceus if he ever got the chance… Jaune shook his head, breaking out of his daydream. Blanche was still lecturing!

Blanche's lecture flowed right into Forest's Pokémon-caresessions, Jaune's favorite time of day.

Forest showed her brush that was full of wool. "All of this is because Whimsicott naturally grows so much wool that it sheds through every growth season. A trainer has to stay on top of details like this so that it doesn't hinder them in battle." Forest ruffled Whimsicott's head. "This little one wouldn't be able to run all that fast if its wool was weighing her down. You'll meet Pokémon with similar needs. Mareep has a similar quirk with its wool."

"But Pokémon like Honedge come from ancient times, being a possession of a physical object. How would you tend to a Pokémon like that or is it even needed?" Jaune asked.

Forest raised a finger, pointing towards Jaune. "Every Pokémon has their own needs even if it is a Ghost Pokémon." Putting that same finger to her face, Forest continued, "I know that Cofagrigus needs its coffin shined and sparkled every month or so. I haven't met any Honedge aside from your own, but I'd imagine it'd be a similar process. Just like you sharpen a sword, Honedge's blade needs to be maintained, right?"

Jaune realized the logic in her words. "You're right!" Giving a quick hug, Jaune gave a thank you to his older sister. When it came to caring for Pokémon, Forest would usually have the answer.

Soon the day was wrapping up and luckily, both Jaune's father and mother were present at the dinner table. After a rousing discussion of the daily activities, Jaune decided now was the right time to unleash the news.

"Mom, Dad, I think I'm going to start my journey tomorrow," Jaune said, the family's attention now turned to him.

AN: As you can see, this is a Pokémon/RWBY crossover. The main idea is that Remnant is a region in the Pokémon world, though it's a huge one (think Johto and Kanto) so it's got 16 gyms instead of 8. Same old Elite 4 and Champion setup, and of course you can't have a Pokémon series without a team of (mostly inept) baddies trying to play around with forces beyond their control! Jaune is the main focus of this story, but you can expect to see just about everybody in RWBY at some point or another.

Please leave a review! We'd love to hear what you'd think, and any suggestions for what Pokémon certain RWBY characters should have is always appreciated! We hope you enjoy.
