Chapter 2: Follow The Emerald Road!

Morning has come in Beacon Academy and the initiates are packing up their things and getting refreshed before heading to go get breakfast ahead of the initiation that most hope would pass. Many of the initiates are at the dining hall either eating, talking, or both, but one person stands out as she has orange hair and a pair of bright, turquoise eyes to contrast a boy who has black hair with a magenta streak and pink eyes. The girl named Nora Valkyrie continues being a hyper chatterbox to her childhood friend Lie Ren, who is more quiet and calm just letting Nora speak her mind out not even stopping as she slurped down her pancake.

"Right! What was I thinking? But still, I hope we end up on the same team together!" She swallowed the pancake hanging from her mouth in a large smack. "Oohhhh! We should come up with some sort of plan, to make sure we end up on the same team together! What if we bribe the headmaster? No, that won't work. He has the school."

"Well then expect the unexpected because whoever you are paired up with in the initiation that's going to be your partner that you must stick with for 4 years if you pass." A voice said.

Nora stops her talk as she along with Ren look to see Jaune holding a plate of pancakes sitting down at the table with the two.

"As for me, my name is Jaune Arc." He finished, smiling at the two.

"Nora Valkyrie and this is my childhood friend Lie Ren!" Nora exclaimed, introducing herself and Ren, who made a smile and waved in response. "But I just really hope we get paired up in the initiation. Not to say I'm opposed to being with someone else, but I'm more comfortable with Ren."

"Childhood friends?" Jaune asked. Nora and Ren nodded.

"Yeah, me and Ren have been friends for soooooooo long."

"Nice to know that you guys have been friends for that long... I wish I had that..." Jaune said, muttering the last part of his sentence as he himself isn't that fortunate with the making friends business unlike his sister Saphron.

"Umm e-excuse me." Another voice came.

Jaune, Nora, and Ren stop their conversation to look and see a young boy who not only is slightly smaller than the three but also looking a few years younger. He has black hair, tanned skin, and freckles on his face.

"Is this seat taken?" He asked, anxiously.

"Not at all, come sit with us." Jaune offered being inviting. The boy smiled a bit before taking a seat next to Jaune.

"So what's your name, may I ask?" Nora asked. Jaune and Ren are the same as her.

"Oscar... P-Pine." He responded.

"Nice to meet you Oscar!" Nora said, smiling.

"Same here, Oscar." Jaune said before raising an eyebrow. "Say you do look a little younger than us here. How old are you?"

"Yeah and your name sounds similar to the headmaster of this school, Ozpin Pinales, are you two in any way related?" Nora asked, making an assumption.

Oscar starts to become nervous at Jaune's deduction and Nora's assumption which was unintentionally right... However he can't confirm or deny anything until he talks with Ozpin about who he can and can't tell. Oscar started to get anxious as he felt the three stare at him trying to think of something.

"U-Uh, I only recently turned fifthteen and not really, h-he is my sponsor that recommended me to Beacon when h-he was at my farm." Oscar lied, trying to keep the relationship between him and Ozpin a secret to most of the world. "He saw potential in me when I helped fend off the Grimm attacking my family farm and that's how I got here despite my age."

"Wow really, that's so cool! Not many would have the privilege of having the Beacon headmaster himself as sponsor!" Nora exclaimed.

"Y-Yeah. By the way I overheard your speech last night, Jaune." Oscar said, trying to change the subject.

"Really?" Jaune asked, surprised that there was someone else listening in on him last night besides the three girls he was with at that time.

"Yes, it was r-really eye opening and inspiring to the least."

Jaune smiled in appreciation, "Thanks I honestly wasn't trying to make a speech but I'm still glad my words helped you out."

"Well it was nice meeting you two! Me and my bestest friend Ren have an initiation to pass!" Nora said, now finished with her breakfast along with Ren. The two waved goodbye at Jaune and Oscar as they were headed to the locker room.

Leaving the two boys to sit in silence until Oscar decided to be brave and break the ice by asking a simple question that unknowingly will cement the two boys' friendship.

"S-So where are you from?"

"I don't need people to help me grow up! I drink milk!" Ruby groaned, shoving her weapon back into her locker and turned to address her sister Yang.

"But what about when we form teams?" Yang questioned.

Suddenly remembering her uncle's worries, Ruby replied in a steady voice, "I don't know, I guess… I'll just be on your team or something."

Yang brought her long golden hair over her shoulder and absentmindedly stroked it as she spoke. "Maybe you should try being on someone else's team? Like maybe... Jaune?"

Ruby suddenly closed her locker, turned and stepped up to her sister to look her in the eye while briefly flashing a fiery glow of a red color once again before fading as she said, "Yang, my dearest sister don't you remember what Uncle Qrow said? We need to stick together because of our "special thing", besides are you implying that you do not wish to be on the same team as me?"

"What?" Yang said. "No! Of course I do! I just thought maybe we could kick butt without using "the thing" and… I dunno, maybe it would be good for you to… break out of your shell? I mean you told me Jaune's a great first friend and I'm sure he'd keep our "special thing" a secret!"

Ruby's voice rose indignantly as she said, "What the– First off we can't tell Jaune about "the thing" we just met him and I don't want to make things weird with my new and so far only best guy friend and second of all I don't need to 'break out of my shell'! That's absolutely–!"

"Ridiculous." Came the voice of Jaune as he inadvertently finished Ruby's sentence for her. Jaune is with Oscar having a conversation with him. "I mean there's no way you can grow them that big without adding chemicals which is why many markets wanted my farm produce because they were of the highest quality then any other farm in my area!"

"And I'm telling you it's true they can grow that high naturally and I'll bet that they tasted even better and they're only at my aunts and uncles' farm!" Oscar replied rather heatedly.

As Jaune and Oscar walked through the lockers discussing who's farm grew bigger and better tasting produce, they walked past the forms of Weiss Schnee and a girl she was talking to, a girl dressed in bronze armor and a red sash around her belt, with a long red ponytail and piercing green eyes.

"So, Pyrrha," Weiss was saying to the girl, "have you given any thought to whose team you'd like to be on? I'm sure everyone must be eager to unite with such a strong, well-known individual such as yourself!"

Pyrrha Nikos looked at Weiss and gave her a thoughtful look. "Hmm," she said in a gentle voice, "I'm not quite sure. I was just planning to let the chips fall where they may!"

Weiss looked at the other girl hopefully as she is being a bit too excited at the prospects of getting Pyrrha as a partner that she unknowingly has her eyes started glowing fiery of a light blue color and suddenly the air temperature of the locker room started lowering which Pyrrha starts to notice around her. "Well, I was thinking maybe we could be on a team together?"

Pyrrha just looks at Weiss feeling a bit intimidated yet intrigued at her using "Semblance" to try to get her to be her partner with those weird eye glow. "I would love that, but we'll have to see what happens at the initiations. Again we have to let these things play out." she said, standing firm.

Weiss looked at Pyrrha confused. "Oh okay." Weiss said, turning away before Pyrrha could catch the look of concern across her face.

'What did I just do!' Weiss thought to herself. 'I might've just blown my chances with her by accidentally bringing out my other semblance! No, we have to be paired together and we will be unstoppable! I can see it now! We'll be popular! We'll be celebrities! We'll get perfect grades! Nothing can come between us now!'

Weiss' thoughts were suddenly interrupted by Jaune as he stepped in between Pyrrha and Weiss, but without saying a thing to them while Oscar tried to go around them. Weiss recognizes the boy who stood up to her for Ruby and made that rather impressive speech last night, however, it was still insulting to her that Jaune just passes by her and Pyrrha without getting recognized.

"Now hold on just a minute there!" Weiss called out as Jaune and Oscar stopped in their tracks and turned around to face Weiss and Pyrrha.

"What? Ohh, it's you, what do you want now Princess?" Jaune wondered, annoyed at having to deal with the heiress again.

"I demand an apology for me and Pyrrha here! Do you seriously not recognize us?" Weiss demanded much to Pyrrha's chagrin.

Jaune just looks at Weiss and Pyrrha for a bit. "Nope I really don't. Although Pyrrha does look familiar, was she on the cover front of every Pumpkin Pete's Marshmallow Flakes box that I used to eat as a child?" This surprises both of them… much to Pyrrha's joy. "But to explain, I was a roaming hunter in training with my teacher who was not allowing me to stay in one place for a long time or use technology… unless there was an emergency or I needed to contact my family."

"How can you seriously not know who we are? Pyrrha and I are well known throughout the four kingdoms even if you live under a rock you should have seen or heard something involving us." Weiss questioned, still in more disbelief from the blonde haired boy. He continues to be very interesting and frustrating at the same time to Weiss.

Jaune shrugs. "Well that's easy because me and Oscar here are country boys. I'm from Ansel Orleans and I didn't even own a scroll until just now."

Oscar nodded in agreement. "Same here but I'm from the Omabraska Farm settlement and I only recently found out that it's near Mistral."

"Wait, if you were near Mistral Then why did you come to Beacon? Should have you gone to Haven?" Pyrrha asked out of curiosity.

"Oscar got here because he got sponsored by Beacon's Headmaster and was personally recruited to be here." Jaune said, attempting to be Oscar's wingman after seeing him check Pyrrha out so he is playing up Oscar's achievements in order to impress Pyrrha much to Oscar's embarrassment.

"Well, Pyrrha graduated at the top of her class at Sanctum." Weiss pointed out.

Jaune replied, "Never heard of it," which elicited an indignant scoff from the heiress.

"She's won the Mistral region tournament four years in a row, a new record!"

"Again I only know her on the cover of a cereal I used to eat." Jaune said, feeling annoyed at Weiss.

"What about Dust? Surely you use and get Dust that is courtesy of my Schnee Dust Company?" Weiss asked, hoping to see if Jaune would recognize that only to be shocked at his answer.

"I don't use Dust. They're costly and too expensive plus my gear is not really designed to use it. But hey I'm still here aren't I?" Jaune answered.

"Wow, that's incredible." Pyrrha said, even more impressed with Jaune, from that great speech last night to now him being very skilled to the point of not even needing or using Dust.

"Oh this is unbelievable!" Weiss said, dismayed while she is hiddenly impressed too but now she thinks that Jaune is looking down on her and trying to steal Pyrrha as she sees the red-haired champion looking at the blonde boy with admiration. "Alright fine, you win you ignorant grobian but now, after hearing all this, do you really think you're in a position to ask Pyrrha to be on you and your little friend's team?"

Jaune takes a side glance at Oscar who was shaking his head anxiously trying to find someway out of this conversation before he looks at Weiss with a grin deciding to mess with her, "Yes and it seems she is more on board for Team OJ," he said with a grin. "Hurry up, the spots are filling up quick! But maybe I could find a place for you?" He stepped forward. "What do you say, Snow Angel?"

Pyrrha giggled at Weiss's slightly flustered look before she had adopted an annoyed expression as she said, "Pyrrha, a little help, please?"

All Jaune saw was a flash of bronze and red as he instantly reacted and dodged Pyrrha's weapon, a long spear that she called Miló that is stuck to the wall. Oscar barely dodged on time and is on the ground on all four.

"I'm sorry!" Pyrrha said as she went after her weapon on the wall.

Jaune almost called out Pyrrha before backtracking and turning to Oscar asking, "That too much?"

Oscar, now slightly recovered from his near death experience, replied in an annoyed tone. "What do you think?"

The PA box on the wall crackled to life, and Ruby, Yang, Pyrrha, Weiss, Jaune, Oscar, and the remaining other students in the locker room listened as Glynda's voice came through the speakers. "Would all first-year students please report to Beacon Cliff for initiation? Again, all first-year students report to Beacon Cliff immediately." The intercom turned off, and the students began to file quickly out of the locker room. Jaune watches Weiss then leave fuming while Pyrrha leaves a bit more excited.

"It was nice meeting you two!" Pyrrha said with a smile as she walked out.

"Likewise." Jaune said while Oscar waved a bit.

Ruby and Yang walked towards the two boys. "Having some trouble there, lady killer?" Yang asked smugly, hands on her hips.

Jaune shook his head. "Nope, I was just flirting with her just to mess with her."

"I see, then I guess 'Snow Angel' probably was the best start," Yang commented with a smirk.

"Well like dear old dad always said all you need is confidence right? Hotstuff." Jaune said with a shit eating grin while Oscar just facepalms himself.

"Nice try but it's a little too soon to try and play with me but I welcome you to try again." Yang said with a flirty wink.

Ruby goes up to Oscar who is still on the floor.

"Hi! I'm Ruby Rose and I'm so glad I'm not the only one that managed to skip a few years." Ruby said helping the boy to his feet.

"Same, Oscar Pine." He introduce while dusting himself off.

"Cool, come on, Jaune we're going to be late," said Ruby as the four made their way to the outside of the academy, where Beacon Cliff awaited.

Beacon Academy had been built on a large mountain that rose to look over the city of Vale, the kingdom's capital. However, the beautiful school overlooked another large piece of terrain from the back, one not quite as tamed or safe as the kingdom's busy streets. The Emerald Forest was a long stretch of green that went on for miles on end out past the cliff, and as the students looked out over the large expanse, each couldn't help but feel an excited thrill run through them as they contemplated what their initiation would entail.

Ruby looked past her sister to see the other students. Among the ones that she could recognize were Weiss and that red-haired girl Pyrrha from Mistral she had been talking to this morning; Jaune, whose completely focused on the goal right now; Blake, looking as stoic and calm as ever as she surveyed the trees below them; and the pair of students in green and pink that had walked past her and Yang as they got ready this morning – Ren, she thought the guy's name was. There were several other students present that she didn't recognize or hadn't gotten to know yet like that Oscar guy that Jaune was talking with, who looks very nervous right now. One thing was shared by almost everyone: the group was glancing from side to side, anxiously awaiting the beginning of the initiation trials.

Professors Ozpin and Goodwitch stood before them, Ozpin with a steaming glass of hot cocoa in his hand. As he called the students' attention, he said, "For years you have trained to become warriors, and today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest."

Glynda stepped forward. "Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors as to the assignment of 'teams.' Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be assigned teammates. Today."

Ruby gave a small, worried groan. "What? Ohh."

"These teammates will be paired with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon," Ozpin continued "so it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you work well."

Ruby gave another concerned noise. She is praying she gets either her sister or Jaune.

"That being said," the headmaster went on, "the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years."

Ruby's jaw dropped. "What?!" Whoever she saw first would immediately become part of her team? Concerned muttering and gasps broke out among the rest of the students as well, except for Nora, who turned to Ren with a happy smile and said, "See? I told you!"

Jaune made a small chuckle and whispered next to Oscar. "This just got a whole lot more interesting."

Oscar frantically nodded in agreement as he hopes that Jaune becomes his partner.

Ozpin let the din die down, then resumed his instruction. "After you have partnered up, make your way towards the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path… or you will die."

Oscar, at these words, gave a nervous chuckle and gulped.

"You will be monitored and graded through the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?" the headmaster asked.

Oscar raised a hand tentatively. "Yeah, um, sir?" However, Ozpin missed the boy's hand and said "Good! Now, take your positions."

The students that weren't yet situated on the gray launch pads became so, and each assumed a ready position. Nora crouches low, Ren wields his weapons, Yang raises her fists, Ruby readies her body, Jaune has his crossbow out and Oscar is still raising his hand.

Jaune looks over to see that Weiss was flung by the launch pad out into the open air above the forest. He starts coming up with a plan in his head.

"Um, sir? I've got, um… a question." Oscar said still unaware as more of the launch pads began activating down the line, sending student after student hurtling out over the Emerald Forest. "So, this landing… strategy, thing… Uh, wha-what is it? You're like, dropping us off or something?"

Ozpin regarded the young boy with a serious expression. "No."

Taken aback as even more students began to fly through the air, Oscar responded, "Oh, uh, I see… so, did you give out parachutes for us?"

"No," replied the headmaster again as he walked over to Oscar. "You will be falling."

A few spaces away, Nora was flung into the air, her cheerful cry fading away behind her as Ren was launched after her a moment later.

"Uh huh, yeah…" Oscar said, still a bit confused as to why Ozpin is coming over to him.

Ruby glanced at Yang beside her as her pad began to click, and her sister gave her a wink before she put on a pair of sunglasses and was thrown into the air after the previous students with a cry of "Woo hoo!"

Ruby was launched a moment later, the wind tearing at her cloak as the ground sank away and the trees moved swiftly beneath her. Jaune then suddenly steps off of the launch pad and walks to the back causing Oscar, Ozpin, and Glynda to look at the boy confused.

"What on Remnant are you doing Mr. Arc?" Glynda asked.

Jaune doesn't answer and instead takes a calm deep breath before he immediately rushes out by taking a running start and then jumps off of the cliff. He sees a Nevermore flying close by and takes aim before firing a shot with his crossbow landing a hit on the creature. The bolt pierces the Grimm bird and it is revealed that Jaune attached a wire rope to the bolt using it to give him a makeshift ride into the forest. Glynda and Ozpin blinked in amazement.

"Impressive." Ozpin said, putting a hand on Oscar's left shoulder

Oscar began to say while slowly realizing what's happening, "So, what exactly is a landing strategy-" before he is pushed off of the launch pad and on the ground eating grass. Glynda had a disapproving look on her face.

"Ozpin! Did you really have to treat the poor boy like that honestly? I thought becoming a father would have made you more responsible?" She scolded as she helped Oscar up.

Ozpin just chuckled in response before responding, "Simple, Goodwitch, think of a baby bird for example, it is seen as dependent on its parent or caregiver for food, protection, and guidance. The parent bird plays a vital role in providing for the needs of the baby bird until it is mature enough to fend for itself."

As he said this, Ozpin still kept focus and watched the large group of students as they flew or in Jaune's case using the Nevermore as a ride and tumbled through the air, taking a contemplative sip from his mug as he awaited their touchdown in the Emerald Forest.

The long, green expanse of the Emerald Forest was surveyed by a single bird that soared over the bird chirped to itself, flying contentedly along, before its flight was abruptly ended with a squawk as it was knocked from the air by a flurry of red rose petals. "Birdy, no!" came a cry as the red and black bundle that was Ruby Rose flew towards the ground.

As she fell, Ruby looked to her surroundings. In the sky above and around her were fellow initiates who all seemed to be formulating a good plan for reaching the ground safely. Ruby thought about using her typical way of movement during a combat situation and pulling out Crescent Rose, but thinks of a different plan, hoping nobody sees her doing it and soon a red fiery glow appears on her silver eyes as she fired off blast after blast of wind to slow her momentum. As she began to approach the tops of the taller trees, she conjured a small scythe composed of a certain element in her hands and used its long blade to hook around a tree limb, halting her descent.

Weiss also had a similar idea but even more subtle as there are people nearby her and her eyes making a small fiery light blue glow. She summoned multiple ice platforms resembling her glyphs as she fell, hopping from one to another with each ice platform evaporating thereafter until she gently touched down in an isolated clearing within the forest. Behind her had been Lie Ren, who overshot her position as Nora hurtled past him at a higher speed. Using the curved blades of Storm Flower, Ren hooked himself onto a large tree trunk and spiraled down to the ground in circles around the wood, brushing himself off calmly when he reached the bottom.

Hearing a playful shout above him, he glances up to catch a brief glimpse of yellow fire before Yang soared over him, propelling herself far across the forest with her gauntlets but in actuality is really using actual fire coming from her hands, but makes it look like it is coming from her gauntlets and her eyes are glowing fiery yellow underneath her sunglasses. She came down in a woody patch and tucked into a roll, coming up running with a quiet "I'm on fire!" to herself.

Pyrrha held Miló, the long metal javelin, and Akoúo̱, her bronze shield, out in front of her as she crashed through multiple trees, the metal absorbing the shock of each impact. She came to a stop as she landed on a tree branch and quickly transformed Miló into its rifle form. She peered through the scope only to watch in shock at what she was seeing.

Meanwhile, in another part of the forest, the leaves rustled and fluttered as Ruby dropped to the forest floor, and began rushing through the bushes and other undergrowth in search of one person.

'Gotta find Yang!' she thought desperately. 'Gotta find Yang, gotta find – Yang?' she finished the thought aloud, calling her sister's name as she raced through the woods.

As she ran, her mind began to race as fast as her legs. 'Oh, this is bad, this is really bad... What if I can't find her? What if someone finds her first?'

Ruby began to consider her other options. 'Well, there's always Jaune. He's nice, He's funny, and He's cool!' Smiling as she remembered last nights events However, she soon frowned as she realized that she hadn't seen him in the air when they got launched and was nowhere in sight. '...But I don't know where he is, though.'

Another thought occurred to her. 'Ooh! What about Blake?! So mysterious, so calm... Plus she likes books!' However, once again, she brought herself up short. 'Then again, I'm not sure I'd be able to hold a conversation with her... Ugh! Okay... Who else do I know in this school? Oscar? No I just only met him and so far the only thing we have in common is that we're here got into to Beacon early. There's Yang, Jaune, Blake, Oscar, aaaand…'

Ruby ran through a particularly rough patch of bushes and came to a slow halt as she regained her balance. Her eyes came up to reveal that there was someone else in the little clearing. Time seemed to slow as Ruby made eye contact with Weiss, and the two girls stared at each other for a long moment. Weiss looked at her, seemed to shake her head, turned on her heel, and walked off into the woods away from Ruby.

"Wait! Where are you going?" Ruby called after her as she took a few steps to follow, before stopping and kicking at the ground dejectedly. "We're supposed to be teammates," she whimpered sadly.

Weiss was making her way through the overgrown patches of vines and brush with a few grunts as sticks or stickers scratched at her skin. She broke through into another clearing and brushed herself off with a relieved sigh, before she heard a muttered voice coming from above her saying, "Come on, come on! Stupid…!"

She looked up and, to her shock, saw something in the sky, Ruby gets out of her sulking to look up as well and is also in shock like the white heiress nearby her. In the sky is a Nevermore trying to stay up in the air but is being weighed down by Jaune hanging on to it through the rope attached to his crossbow. However, the Nevermore is slowly succumbing to the wound inflicted by the bolt fired by Jaune and it begins to fall.

'What is Jaune doing?' Ruby thought, worrying for her first friend.

'What is that grobian thinking?' Weiss thought, outraged and a little worried.

'That's really dangerous!' Pyrrha thought, feeling concerned.

At first everyone watching thought that Jaune was going to use the Nevermore to slow his fall however Jaune soon shows what his real plan was using the wire/rope he pulls the bird close and angles it underneath him. He then quickly takes out his shield, and soon Jaune slowly places it under his feet and uses the shield to cushion his fall when he lands on a grassy hill that was secretly made by his Geo magic as Jaune slowly start descending down to the ground using his shield as a board, landing in a different area of the forest with the Nevermore grinding against the grass now dead and later disappearing in smoke.

Weiss got out of her shock, made her way back to the other clearing, where Ruby was at still in amazement at what she just saw Jaune did and sees that Ruby was about to walk towards him at the direction of where he landed. Weiss acted grabbing Ruby by the hood and dragging her behind herself as she walked, Weiss said with resigned annoyance, "By no means does this make us friends."

Ruby merely replied with an overjoyed, "You came back, yay!" as she threw her hands up in celebration, allowing herself to be pulled behind Weiss.

'That guy is such a showoff!' Weiss thought in annoyance and jealousy, sighing to herself. 'No matter so long as I can find Pyrrha we can still be on the same team while this dolt is the last person I wanted as a partner I'd sooner eat dust before I let that grobian take someone else's attention from me.'

In the area, Jaune detaches the rope on his bolt and puts it back on his crossbow which he then puts the crossbow on his back. He looks around to see that there is no one around to partner up with.

'Guess I'm going to be alone.' Jaune thought.

Bringing out his Crocea Mors Ensis and Luna Scutum, he proceeds on with the initiation and running deep into the Emerald Forest.

"Haa!"

Yang roars as she launches forward and lands a literal fiery kick the large Ursa's head that sends it backwards through a patch of fiery tree, sprawling while it is engulfed in fire. The second Ursa dashed forward, looking to succeed where the first had not. However, Yang side steps to the left avoiding the charging Ursa and before the Ursa could do anything, Yang threw sheer ferocious punches left and right with the last punch launched straight through it's abdomen. The Ursa stood there as it is quite battered and now dead before it is engulfed in flames and burned into nothing with Yang's attacking arm still stretched out.

"That'll teach you..." Yang said with a cold tone. Her eyes flashed red, and a yellow fiery glow was once again present in those said eyes. Earlier Yang was walking alone when a duo of Ursa ambushed her and at first she was toying with the Grimms until one of them managed to get lock of her hair and that's when she became enraged and decides to go all out using her "second" Semblance along with her Burn with the results not being pretty for the Ursas.

Hearing a growl behind, she turned to see another Ursa, which had approached slowly until it caught her murderous gaze.

"What? You want some too?" Yang asked, the fiery yellow light on her eyes remaining and the creature gave a roar. Suddenly a noise was made causing the Ursa to freeze up... then split in half with electricity appearing on both sides as they fell from opposite directions on the ground to reveal that behind the bisected Grimm is Blake Belladonna with her weapon stretched out showing that she sliced the Grimm in half with her combat blade.

But the real shock of the surprise for Yang is seeing Blake's eyes having a similar fiery glow like her's but the color is purple. Blake looks to Yang with a small smirk, taking in the sight of the aftermath of her rage caused by both of her two semblances.

"Wha-?!" Yang said, her breathing slowed, her irises returning to their normal lilac color and the yellow fiery glow on her eyes vanishes.

"Don't worry. I'm the only one who saw it. Glad that I found someone else with a second Semblance." Blake said, smiling. Yang nervously laughs.

Weiss readied herself in position as a pack of Beowolfs encircled her, going through the steps in her head and adjusting accordingly. Earlier her partner Ruby just vanished like a flurry of rose petals into the bushes and the only thing Weiss found behind those bushes are Beowolves which is how Weiss got herself into this fight.

'Remember your training, Weiss... Although since I now am alone and no one is around, I guess I can cut loose with my second Semblance.' she thought herself. 'I just have to slow my breathing wait for the right time to strike though.' Her eyes narrowed as a light blue fiery glow appears around them, the tip of her rapier pointed at the large Beowolf. "And…"

The temperature around the area starts to drop which didn't leave the Beowolf's notice as Weiss raised her rapier up before quickly making a spinning motion as a cold explosion of sharp ice spikes appear and thrusts upward, impaling several of the Beowolfs surrounding her. Weiss looks around and see that she is surrounded by ice conjured by her through this second Semblance she has.

"No way!" A voice yelled.

Weiss turns her head to see a surprised and excited Ruby before saying, "You have magic too?!"

But before Weiss could respond the remaining Beowolfs surrounded the two. Ruby dropped into a combative stance with her silver eyes having a similarly fiery glow of the red variety since she witnessed Weiss using her "second" semblance, she can now go all out as well. As the Beowolfs starts their attack and charged at the two, Ruby swings her large scythe in a vertical motion that creating a huge gust of wind created blade projectiles that slashed across and dismembered the Beowolf that foolishly tried to attack the two, the pack dwindled even more as a result. The Beowolves, now afraid of the two girl's unusual power, continued howling and began a retreat.

'What the? How did she? The force of that wind there's no way that girl was able to fast enough to generate that kind of wind pressure unless…' Weiss thought to herself staring in shocked and awe as the Grimm ran from the two girls before Ruby excitedly began speaking "Pretty cool right?"

Weiss then took a deep breath before collecting herself. "First don't tell anyone what you saw and second magic? Don't be ridiculous there's no such thing as that but still I'm surprised that you used wind dust since it is highly expensive so I didn't think someone like you would be able to afford it."

"Wind Dust?" Ruby asked in confusion.

"That gust of wind the only way you could have done that is if you had wind dust." Weiss responded in conclusion.

"That wasn't dust that was Ma- I mean my second semblance!" Ruby said realizing her slip of the tongue in excitement but that thankfully the girl in front of her didn't know the truth about her second "Semblance".

Weiss scoffed in disbelief. "You have a second Semblance yeah right and I'm the queen of Atlas."

Ruby now began to frown and fire back "Well you're certainly acting like royalty! Is it so hard to believe that its true, I mean you have one too!"

"I told you to forget about that and it wasn't a second Semblance it was ice Dust!"

"No it wasn't, I saw your eye's glowing!"

"You saw nothing you must imagined it while misfiring that wind Dust!"

"I didn't misfire and I don't use wind dust it was my second Semblance!"

"You don't have a second Semblance you dolt!"

"Yes I do, I have one just like you do!"

"NO I DON'T!"

"YES YOU DO!"

A few minutes later, Ruby and Weiss continued walking through forest while arguing as the two continue to still be at it about misfires, dust, and second semblances all while they left behind a destructive scene of solid ice and sliced up tree branches.

In another part of the Emerald Forest, Jaune Arc was walking along, keeping a careful eye out for any Grimm, or fellow students to partner up with, but no luck.

In the distance, what sounded like energy blasts sounded off, the sound echoing loudly through the forest and startling a pair of resting birds above their heads.

"Hmm?" Jaune looks back to the noise. "Gunfire, explosions... looks like my future classmates and team members have already gotten started with the Grimm in their way. Only a matter of time until I get my own share of Grimm better hurry up find those relics or before..."

Right on cue in his path is a group of Beowolves with an Alpha in the middle but Jaune hears something behind him and looks over his shoulder to see the half of the Beowolf pack effectively blocking his escape.

Jaune sighed. "My big mouth." He gets into a battle stance as the Beowolves started growling at the blond boy. Jaune put on a calm stoic expression.

"Sorry not looking forward to being pack food, so bring it." Jaune's fighting words let out as the battle commenced.

Wind was whistling up and over Beacon Cliff as Ozpin stood surveying the forest with his son Oscar next to him sitting on the grass floor hugging his knees. He glanced down at his tablet, switching between students as he measured their progress.

Glynda approached him from behind, wielding a scroll of her own. On her screen, Nora Valkyrie dangled upside down from a tree and playfully poked her partner, Lie Ren, on the nose. "Poor Lie Ren. I can't possibly see those two getting along. Still, he's probably better off than Miss Nikos." The visual feed switched to show Pyrrha as she trekked through the woods without a partner. Glynda then switches to seeing Jaune fighting and taking down a bunch of Beowolves before taking on the Alpha.

Glynda sighed. "Still I don't know why that Jaune fellow did such a reckless thing of using a Nevermore to get into the Emerald Forest, but he is quite the combatant as he's been described as." She deactivated the scroll and turned away from the cliff, leaving the headmaster staring down at his own screen while Oscar is feeling sad at not doing so well in the initiation especially not being able to partner with Jaune.

"At their current pace, they all should reach the temple within just a few minutes." Glynda said as she turned back to the silver-haired man. "Speaking of which, what did you use as relics this year? Professor Ozpin?"

Ozpin didn't reply. A thoughtful "Hmmm" escaped his lips as he watched the scene playing out on his tablet. On screen, Ruby Rose was sitting cross legged in a clearing, picking at grass and fallen leaves as Weiss Schnee paced back and forth, seemingly trying to get her bearings until the two started planning for something that looks to be crazy judging by Weiss's shocked expression.

Deep in the forest, Jaune charges the Alpha Beowolf with strong slashes before finishing the Grimm off with a downward stab. The alpha was on the ground lifeless before disappearing in black smoke.

"And that should do it." Jaune said, just when he thinks he is in the clear, until another wave of Beowolves came and surrounded the boy growling at him.

"Spoke too soon." Jaune sighed in exasperation before looking around and is a little worn out but remained in a more defensive battle stance. It was a stare down waiting for the first strike and Jaune looked over a bit to see a cliff and sees that as an opportunity to escape before he slashed the nearest Beowolf causing the rest to charge Jaune as he chooses to instead flee and started running towards the edge of a cliff before jumping off. While in the air, Jaune twists his upper body and brings out his Luminous Velos aiming it at the charging Beowolves before launching a bolt round at the pack. However it wasn't a normal bolt, it turned out to be a explosive one which when it landed it sets off and knocks away the Beowolves in the explosion that ensures that they don't follow Jaune, who escapes the fight with his life.

"Hmm," Yang said, as she surveyed the chess pieces. She came to a stop in front of a pedestal with a small, golden knight piece resting on top. She turned to Blake.

"How about a cute little pony?" she asked brightly.

Blake shrugged with a small smile. "Sure."

They each pocketed one of the small wooden horses as they met in the middle of the temple. It is a tall, stone structure had come into view below. In the center of a large clearing, the forest temple awaited. Large, grey stone bricks supported by a large ring of chiseled columns formed the structure, and the stone was covered in moss and overgrowth, indicating its age. The structure seemed to be the ruins from some past culture, but there was no way to be sure. From their perch on the hill overlooking the clearing, Yang and Blake took in the sight of the monument. In the stone semicircle of columns and brick, several pedestals were standing straight up, though from this distance, it was impossible to tell what was on them until the two got a closer look to find chess pieces with some already taken earlier.

"That wasn't too hard," Yang remarked.

"Well, it's not like this place is very difficult to find especially with our "Gifts" making quick work of the Grimms," Blake replied with a smirk.

Just then something landed near the temple making a loud thud. Yang turned towards the sound, shock on her face as she said, "What was that?"

Blake didn't answer her partner's question, eyes fixed skyward at rapidly approaching blurs.

Yang goes to look and investigate to find a blond boy on one knee and is looking down panting a bit before looking up to see a curious Yang.

"Oh hi Yang, nice to see you, are you my partner?" Jaune asked.

Yang then grinned, "Nope, sorry Comic Boy, but I already have one and she's over there." She points her thumb behind pointing at Blake, who gave an offhanded small wave.

"Oh Blake huh, that's interesting."

"Wait, you actually don't have a partner?" Yang asked, seeing that Jaune was alone.

"Nope, I'd probably have landed far away from you guys using that Nevermore to get into the forest."

"That's just crazy, right Blake?"

Blake was still silently looking up as she pointed a finger to the object of her interest. Yang and Jaune looked up, and their eyes widened as they recognized a small girl falling towards the earth above them, steadily closing in on the ground.

"Heads uuuuuuup!" Ruby shouted as she hurtled downward, desperately trying to slow her fall. Jaune runs towards the falling girl and manages to catch Ruby in his arms, who is surprised at seeing him.

"I gotcha Ruby!" Jaune said, sliding along the grass. "You alright?"

"Uh y-yeah... thanks Jaune." Ruby said, smiling and blushing a bit at being saved by her first friend she made as Jaune then lets her down.

"Your welcome Ruby." Jaune replied, smiling.

Blake looked to Yang in confusion. "Did your sister just fall out of the sky?" Blake questioned

Yang, equally confused, began, "I–"

"Pardon the interruption Yang, but before you answer I see something else up there." Jaune pointed up to the sky, similar to how Blake had mere minutes before. Yang and Blake look to see a familiar white princess not too far behind in the sky falling to the ground similarly to Ruby.

"I really thought this was a bad idea!" Weiss yelled.

Jaune watched as Weiss began to plummet down. Seeing an opportunity, the young man quickly climbed on to a nearby tree and leaped forward from a trunk, catching the girl in his outstretched arms carrying her bridal style.

"Just dropping in now, Snow Angel?" he said, jokingly before falling and landing on the ground below. He quickly places Weiss down who was just in shock at what she experienced before shaking her head and glaring at the blond boy who saved her with a hint of red on her cheeks.

"Hmph, I didn't need your help." Weiss said.

"Really, cause it seems like you were about to suffer a headache that was about to befall on Ruby if I didn't save her minutes ago." Jaune responded, annoyed at her ungratefulness.

"Well at least I have partner unlike you but she isn't my exactly my first or greatest choice though."

"I'm right here you know." Ruby called out which Weiss ignored.

"Okay, enough, let's just get our artifacts and leave before any more Grimms come." Jaune pointed out. "That's our objective after all for the Initiation."

"Jaune's right." Ruby said, agreeing with the blonde boy.

"Fine, let's just grab the relics and finish this already." Weiss stated, not in any mood to argue anymore.

Jaune, Ruby, and Weiss stepped forward into the temple. Each took a chess piece, Ruby choosing a golden knight like her sister with Weiss choosing the same piece as Ruby. As for Jaune, he inspects all the remaining pieces so far and one particularly took his interest and that is the golden king piece which is just one copy unlike the other pairs, so he chooses that piece.

"Well that does it then," Jaune commented, smiling.

"But you don't have a partner Jaune." Ruby said, worrying.

"She's right, how are you going to be on a team?" Weiss questioned, awkwardly hiding her concern.

"Are you really okay with this?" Blake asked, looking uncomfortably sad.

"Yeah, there might still be time to find someone to partner up with. Are you sure you're fine without one?" Yang reasoned, eyebrow raised.

"I will be fine." Jaune responded as he looked up to the sky before staring at his king piece in his hand. "Whatever this piece will take me."
