Over the green hills and far away, on a distant planet in a distant galaxy, a warm breeze swept through a field of grass and a tree swayed in the serene wind. Birds tweeted to each other and rabbits frolicked around, looking for carrots.
All was calm, nature was peaceful, and the sun shone brightly with a smile and a laugh high above in the noon sky. Today was a lovely day and the inhabitants of this planet were enjoying the peace. As leaves floated through the air, torn from the evergreen trees, a strange warbling noise started to make itself heard in the plane of existence.
Moments later, a light glowed, and a blue box took shape. The warble became a wheezing and the sound continued until the object had fully materialized; a blue police public call box. Except, this wasn't a telephone police box.
It was a ship, a traveling machine from another world, once capable of taking other forms until a mechanism broke during one of the ship's travels.
And this ship was known as the TARDIS. TARDIS, short for Time And Relative Dimensions In Space, it could go anywhere in the universe to other worlds and different points in time. And the TARDIS was never without its pilot.
The door opened and an elderly man with white hair in a black suit stepped out, followed by a young woman in grey-ish clothes. The former was The Doctor, a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey in the distant constellation of Kastaberous, and his companion was his granddaughter Susan. They'd been traveling for some time and this world was one of their many stops.
"Would you say this countryside looks ideal to have a picnic here, Susan?" The Doctor asked.
"It looks so peaceful, grandfather." Susan replied, "I can hear birds singing."
"Ah, yes. I hear them to, but aside from those and the rabbits, do you wonder if there are people who live on that planet?"
"Grandfather, the sun!"
"Susan, it isn't advisable to look into..." The Doctor looked up and chuckled lightly, "Oh my, this world truly is alien if this planet's sun looks like that. And how did our friend become sentient and gain a face like this?"
The baby-faced sun giggled at The Doctor and Susan, making a couple warbling noises, cooing and then doing more laughing.
"Enough staring contests with the sun." The renegade Time Lord said to his granddaughter, "How about we find and meet the inhabitants of this planet, see what other secrets that are waiting to be discovered by us, eh? Heh-heh."
The Doctor made sure The TARDIS' door was properly closed, then he and Susan set forth across the countryside, walking over the hill, and regarded the ever lovely view. They soon heard a whooshing sound and looked to the top of a hillside, seeing a windmill in motion, spinning rapidly while letting off magical sparks the likes of which The Doctor had never seen.
He and Susan proceeded onward, walking over the hills until they caught sight of what looked to be a dome that was built into another hill. They could see windows and a doorway, then they saw a hole in the middle of the grassy hilltop.
And right at the bottom of the hill, they saw four humanoid creatures walking around. One creature was red, the other was green, the other was yellow and the other was purple. Even from a distance, The Doctor and Susan could hear the creatures talking in a strange language with a voice that made them sound like kids.
Now there was something interesting. The Doctor smiled again, feeling more eager than ever to speak with these fascinating-looking aliens that he and his granddaughter had just found.
"Shall we, Susan?" He asked.
"I'd be happy to make new friends, grandfather." Susan nodded, "They look funny, but how will they react to us? Would they be interested in seeing our TARDIS if we told them?"
"Now, now, Susan. We must get to know them first, then we'll show them our ship, depending on if they are harmless as they appear to be." The Doctor told his grandfather in a near-cautioning tone.
The duo walked down the hill towards the four creatures, who sat down on the grass, and they saw the yellow one pick up a sunflower while the green one giggled. As The Doctor and his granddaughter came closer, the four beings looked up and gasped with surprise as if they had never seen anyone like them before.
"Newcomer." The red one quipped.
"Humans." The purple one said, "Human beings."
"EH-OOOOOOH!" The creatures said in unison.
"Ooh. Did you mean 'uh-oh'?" The Doctor asked with a chuckle, "I hope we didn't scare you, My granddaughter and I don't mean any trouble. We're just travelers and you can see we come in peace, isn't that right, Susan?"
"You don't need to be scared." Susan told the creatures, "Perhaps we can both be friends."
"Friends." The green creature repeated.
"We love visitors." The red one quipped.
"Of course we do." The Doctor nodded, "You know my granddaughter, Susan, and I am The Doctor, we are friends."
"Doctor who?" The creatures asked.
The Doctor chuckled, "No need to fuss, just The Doctor. And no, I didn't come to put needles in you or give you check-ups, but I can be a doctor of many things."
"Ok." The red one giggled.
"I'm Tinky-Winky." The purple creature introduced.
"Mine's Dipsy." The green one chimed in.
"And my name is La-La." The yellow one waved.
"Ooh, ooh. I'm Po, they call me Po." Po said with a giggle.
The Doctor chuckled, "Pleased to meet the both of you, Po, La-La, Dipsy and Tinky-Winky. So, what do we identify your colorful species as?"
In response to the Time Lord's inquiry, a whirring sound perked his and Susan's ears, making them turn around as an odd-looking microphone rose out of the ground. A feedback sound went off, then an automated voice spoke from the speakers; "You are talking to the Teletubbies."
"My word!" Susan exclaimed with wide eyes, "Grandfather! Did you hear what that device just said. 'Teletubbies', like the ones in..."
"Perhaps it's just a coincidence, Susan." The Doctor told her, "For now, why don't we enjoy our friends' hospitality. Perhaps they'll be so kind to let them into their residence, maybe we could share some tea."
"Tubby Tea, Tubby Tea." Po remarked.
"Oooh, ooh, and Tubby Custard as well." Tinky-Winky remarked.
"Eeheehee. Tubby Custard, Tubby Custard, Tubby Custard." The Teletubbies chanted.
Up above, the baby-faced sun laughed as it witnessed the humorous interaction, even as The Doctor and his granddaughter ignored it. They went inside the dome with Po and the others, seeing how spacious it appeared to be. The place was round with a slide in the middle, likely leading up to that hole outside. There were even clear windows that allowed the gang to get a good view from the tables.
Slurping sounds made Susan turn, spotting a robot with a vacuum hose entering the area. The robot saw her and The Doctor, then it rolled up to Po and said something in a strange dialect that sounded like whirring and slurping.
"Oooh ho-ho-ho." The Doctor chuckled, "It would seem you fellows had just enough technological prowess to whip up this little creature."
"Noo-Noo." Po explained to the elderly Time Lord.
"I'm not causing trouble." The Doctor replied, "What's the 'no-no'?"
"They're trying to tell us the creature's name." Susan commented.
Noo-Noo, the robot vacuum rolled up to The Doctor, its eyes studying him, then it rolled away towards a table just as Dipsy came towards the duo with a bowl of custard in hand. The Doctor sat down and held the bowl, picking up a spoon as he dug into what was the Teletubbies' special meal that was their Tubby Custard.
Susan joined her grandfather, who offered her a spoonful of the Tubby Custard, and she happily tasted it while watching the four Teletubbies sit at a nearby table, chattering in Tubby-speak about their guests while Noo-Noo ran his nose on the floor. That little fella was conducting clean-up dusty, keeping things well-polished and clean without any nasty messes.
Just then, a machine beeped and Tinky-Winky ran over to it, picked up a cup and came over to The Doctor and Susan's table just as they smelled fresh tea, even before the purple Tellytubby had completely delivered it to them.
"Tubby Tea." Tinky-Winky said happily.
"Ah, thank you." The Doctor took the cup and put aside the Tubby Custard, he began to sip the tea and Tinky-Winky waved to Susan before he rejoined his fellow Teletubbies.
"So far, so good." The Doctor said, "These creatures are friendly and there have been no problems."
"I didn't think I'd ever visit a planet where I'd meet THE Teletubbies." Susan quipped.
"Well, I doubt they're fully akin to the ones from the television program." The Doctor chuckled, "I'd be surprised if their special screens picked up transmissions from Earth or other planets with human colonies, but this feels as if we've entered a different galaxy in another dimension."
"EH-OH!"
The Doctor and Susan stood up, seeing the Teletubbies staring outside the window as they stood and they seemed to be shaking. The Doctor was curious as to what had made them freak out. He and Susan came over to where their friends were standing and stared out the window, staring out at the lush green countryside.
As The Doctor and the others observed, a pair of ships were coming in for landing with weapons visible on their sides and the top. The ships looked massive and dangerous-looking, there were even more ships in the sky above.
Moments later, an alarm blared and the windmill seemed to spin faster than it ever had before. Noo-Noo beeped and fled towards a door. The Doctor and Susan looked at each other, all filled with uncertainty as they processed what was even happening, and the Teletubbies looked at them with a sense of unease.
"Bad ships?" Po asked.
"Grandfather?" Susan up at The Doctor.
The Doctor thought about it for a moment. "It would seem..." He said, "...that an intergalactic invasion by an unknown party is underway and those people coming in with their ships do not come in peace."
The End (for now)
