THE ONE PUNCH HERO: DEKU!

THE BIRTH OF A HERO.

MUSUTAFU PARK:

"Enough of this, Kaachan!" yelled a 7-year-old small greened-haired child. He held his fist protectively in front of another boy who had been beaten up by the class bully, Katsuki Bakugou. However, that put him in harm's way as well, the blonde already preparing to blast him out of the way.

"Out of my way Deku, you can't do anything since you don't have a Quirk." the blonde scoffed as small sparks crackled in his palms. However, Deku, whose true name was Izuku Midoriya, stood his ground. ''Not when you are hurting people!'' he yelled, hoping to draw the attention of the teachers. Unfortunately, there was no adult in sight. So much for that. Izuku would not receive any assistance, he had to stand against the now-enraged Bakugou.

"Fine, but don't say I didn't warn you!" he yelled as proceeded to charge at Midoriya who looked ready to defend himself.

Around 10 Minutes had passed as Bakugou had left Izuku bruised as he sat on the floor panting for breath while his face darkened. He stared at the ground wondering it all came to be. The answer lay in their DNA. Had past scientists been asked what they believed the next step of human evolution would be, none would have proposed a mutation allowing for superpowers. And yet, this strange phenomenon had occurred and was eventually referred to as a 'Quirk'. At least eighty percent of the world's population had one which began in Qing Qing City which was the Capital City in China as the first Meta Ability was manifested by a newborn baby who could radiate light from its body.

Despite being born in the 5th Generation of Quirk-Users, Izuku Midoriya was one of the unfortunate 20% to not be born with this Meta Ability which would not be a big deal if the 20% who were Quirkless were born from the Older Generation. The reason for it was due to him being born with extra joints as genetics plays a prominent role in a person's Quirk Factor. Even if both parents have a Quirk, that doesn't mean their children will. Both of Deku's parents had special abilities, yet he wasn't given any which made him Quirkless. Without a Superpower to call his own and already part of the percentage of the population that goes hardly recognized at times, it was pretty obvious that he would have been mostly picked on by other kids at an early age.

''I'm sorry Mrs. Midoriya, but I'm afraid your son is Quirkless.''

As Izuku Midoriya stood up with a conflicted expression on his face, he realized the gruesome truth that every child eventually comes to understand as he grows up.

'All men are not created equal.'

That was the harsh and bittering truth for someone for a kid like Midoriya to accept, but he knew that if he ever wanted to achieve his dreams of becoming a hero, then it meant that this was something deal within himself. Being Quirkless was not an excuse for at least putting effort into following his dreams and feeling sorry for himself wasn't going to help him at all. Besides, it was obvious that those around him would likely just laugh and tell him he was going to fail anyway and nothing was going to happen unless he did something about it. Izuku Midoriya's eyes widened in the fire as he was aware of the harsh conditions that would be in his way, however, he had made it clear to himself that nobody would stand in his way of achieving his dreams and he would dam if anyone prevented that from happening.

8 YEARS LATER:

ALDERA JUNIOR HIGH:

Izuku Midoriya walked down the street, making his way to Aldera as he wore a plain black gakuran uniform with yellow buttons, accompanied by his signature bright red high-top boots, which have thick white soles and black laces along with his yellow bag. He was in his last year of junior high school and was aware that they were going to be reviewing their high school applications. He had applied to the U.A., the best school on that side of Japan. He looked at his watch and quickly panicked.

He was Five Minutes Late!

WHOOSH!

A rapid, short breeze, and he was gone.

IN ALDERA CLASSROOM:

Midoriya sighed in relief as he got to class in time. Luckily the teacher just waved him off and he got into his seat. Just as he was settling in the teacher slammed a stack of paper on his desk.

"Now that Midoriya has graced us with his presence," He said with slight sarcasm drawing out laughs from the class with Midoriya silently groaning in slight embarrassment, "We will be discussing your futures, but I assume all of you want to be Heroes?"

Sure, he's most of the time interested in everything about Heroes, after all, it's one of the only things that get him to feel emotions, The rest of the time he's just bored, but he just dislikes the fact that people like his old bullies can get Hero Licenses. It was just plain annoying and absurd.

To become a Pro-Hero, students in training must pass a Hero Course during high school to get a license. One thing that stayed the same, however, was the Hero rankings. Heroes will get ranks depending on how good they are if they are advanced.

As he filled in new entries into his Hero Notebook #13, he overheard his classmates discussing something about their heroes' careers.

"With a Quirk like mine, I'll make it to Hero Program!"

"Eh, not aiming for the Top Five?"

"Nah, that would be impossible. I'll just settle for the top 10 in the U.A."

"I heard Midoriya's applying to U.A."

"The most prestigious school in the whole of Japan?! No Way?! What's on the world is that dumbass thinking? Did his brain get messed up or something?''

Midoriya twitches his eye in annoyance and anger. Even though he had gotten used to these types of comments from his classmates, it didn't change the fact that it irritated him most of the time. Why couldn't people understand that Quirks do not make a person's worth? Being a hero does not mean putting on a hero costume and getting all the attention or any of that garbage, it is about putting your life for those who cannot defend themselves.

That is a True Hero.

Izuku Midoriya sighed as he looked at his left hand, even though he had gained insane strength due to his training regime which was very brutal, he had decided never to show it off since he felt it would do more harm than good. It'll land him into trouble which would stain his record and likely reduce the chance of him getting into the U.A. Plus, he had made a promise to himself that he would use his newfound power to help people just like All Might would. Besides, he didn't let small words of discouragement from his classmates affect him and he certainly wasn't going to let Bakugou's heavy-handed tactics of putting him down ruin his passion for his dreams.

After the admissions were completed, the lessons went on as usual and when the bell rang, he quickly packed his bags and zoomed out of the building at normal speed. There was a sale at the local supermarket today and he can't miss that. Not knowing what was coming to him.

MUSUTAFU STORE (3:35 PM):

Izuku Midoriya whistled in delight as he saw the price of the steak he was holding, ¥100 per gram. He stuffs it into the basket and continues looking for other groceries. He went over to the milk section and tried to decide what milk he should buy.

"Whole or Low Fat?" He mutters repeatedly as he looks at each carton before deciding on the cheapest, Whole.

After that, he went over to the cashier and dumped it on the counter, as the cashier scanned each product, he searched his wallet for the money to prepare the payment needed.

"That will be ¥2,500 sir." The cashier asks politely as Izuku hands over the appropriate amount and walks out in a good mood. Today had been great, Nobody hadn't approached him today and he scored a good price for his weekly groceries. All in all, it was a very good day.

"Look out!"

As he turned in response to the warning from the small crowd, he saw a green sludge monster approach him at high speed with a sickening grin on its face. Instead of being scared, he merely had an annoyed expression on his face as he placed his hand on his forehead.

"Great, a hostage! Thanks for not running, that'll put him off my back."

Big Mistake.

PUNCH!

The punch was so fast no one saw it, but everyone saw the monster split apart and cover the entire area with a green substance.

"..."

The crowd was stunned in silence at the display as no word came out of their words, but Izuku just ignored them and headed to the train station, he needed to head to Mustafa for the New All Might Merch. He wasn't aware that All Might was chasing the villain and arrived after he had left. "I am he-!" He pauses when he sees the Monster already defeated as his expression looks confused. "Uh, what just happened?"

15 MINUTES LATER:

INSIDE THE TRAIN TO MUSATUFU SHIZUOKA TRAIN STATION:

During the train ride, Izuku sat and played a SNES game on his phone, it was a very casual model nearing an artefact, an iPhone that was still advanced. Since his mother has a job that pays a good amount, they had to spend on medium goods. Also, this phone was the only one that could withstand the shock waves of his punches, so he didn't need to worry about replacing it after a fight with his Vigilante Persona. Speaking of it, a sudden buzzing of his phone had alerted Izuku to the fact that he had received a notification, so he paused what he was doing and checked his locked screen, It was an alert from one of the news apps that he downloaded to let him know that a new article had been published. His eyes slightly narrowed at the title of the Shizuoka Newspaper Times.

"GREEN BLUR STRIKES ONCE AGAIN - COUPLE SAVED FROM MUGGING."

He looked at the title before clicking on the article and read through it in his head. A small frown found its way to his face after he finished through it. While the article did make note of his heroism, it also did not paint him in a positive light either. A quiet sigh went through his lips as he placed his phone away in his pocket and leaned into his train seat. Even though he was used to the slander, it did not mean he liked it at all. While the general public had seemed to be firmly on his side ever since he started masquerading as the Green Blur almost 3 years ago, the media had never supported him. In their opinion, he was nothing more than an attention seeker. A tease. Someone who strung civilians along like wooden puppets while skulking around within the shadows, plotting his machinations.

It was all slander.

Izuku never had any Ulterior Motives. Ever since his love for Heroes began, he always wanted to become a hero one day to help people. The only reason he even became a vigilante in the first place was to circumvent the law about unlicensed Quirk use in public being illegal - despite not being born with one. While he had understood why the law was necessary, he couldn't just sit back and let people get hurt when he had the means to prevent it from happening. It was simply not his heart. Thankfully, no one had even come close to catching him in the act thus far. Heck, even his gender remained a mystery.

If he was being honest with himself, he wasn't really a fan of the whole cowl-and-dagger act. While he had certainly wanted his privacy, another aspect of being a hero was acting as a beacon of hope within the innocent masses; being someone that young children could look up to and aspire to be like while ensuring that people were safe. He was not to be able to do such a thing while hiding behind the guise of a near-invisible vigilante. This is why he needed to go to the U.A. and earn a Pro-Hero License, which would allow him to fight crime without having to hide behind a mask. If he ever wanted to emulate All Might - the ideal definition of what a hero should be, in his opinion - he needed to graduate from what was essentially high school for superheroes.

BOOM!

All of a sudden in the middle of the train ride, there was an explosion, and then the train skidded to a halt. The passengers started panicking but Izuku had a look of indifference. He looked at the map of stations on the train and saw the light at Antoine Station glowing yellow, looks like he was near his stop. He looked at the phone's clock and started slightly sweat dropped when looking at the time.

3:50 pm?! The sale's going to end in 10 minutes!

He looks at the train conductor trying to calm everyone down, "Sir, why is the train not moving?"

"It appears to be a villain attack! Please remain, calm everyone, there are currently Pro Heroes on the scene. We only need to wait until the villain is defeated so we can move again."

Izuku looks at the clock again, ''Are you kidding me?! I can't waste any time!'' He quickly grabbed his stuff and went over to the door and pulled it open surprising the passengers, he ignored them and jumped off the train.

He then starts running, getting there quickly. There's premium beef for sale! 6 minutes left!

BOOM!

He turned to look for the source of the sound of an explosion and then saw a district of the city on fire, with his vision he could see the Lurkers as well as the villains they were fighting.

Wait, isn't that the villain I just fought? How on Earth did it get here so fast?

Unbeknownst to him All Might, in his normal form, was panicking as he looked at the scene. He had found the Villain he was chasing had already been defeated, he wanted to look for the person but was rushing so he just stuffs the villain in a bottle and ran to deliver it to the Association branch in Mustafa. but somehow during the mid-jump, the bottle came loose and fell, due to the momentum it flew for a while before landing in an alleyway. Now the Villain has taken a hostage with an Explosion Quirk, allowing him to fight off the Pro Heroes.

Now he had run out of time, cursing the HPSC for not thinking of putting a branch in Atollon Shopping Centre. He can only hope for some Hero to show up to save the boy.

'I'm Worthless.' All Might thought shamefully. 'Pathetic...'

Meanwhile, Izuku was still confused but then with his hearing, he heard a cry coming from the Villain, looking again he saw a boy his age trapped inside the Villain.

KAACHAN?!

Izuku was stunned to see his old childhood classmate here, and more importantly, being held, hostage.

He was trying to blow apart the Villain with his Explosions but instead, they were redirected to hit the Heroes.

''That is not helping the situation at all.'' Izuku thought as he started to get worried, the sale would end in a few minutes. He could leave the Pros to do something, as it was their job after all, and he was sure there was more coming their way. He was aware that if he punched the villain with all these witnesses and in front of Heroes, he would be detained for public Quirk use even if he didn't have one and nobody would believe him if he said so. He was already fighting crime in his vigilante persona without a Pro-Hero License. On the other hand, however, he could not just leave and let Bakugou be held against his own will as he would just die from suffocating.

Izuku placed a palm on his face realising that if he had at least subdued the Sludge Villain before going to the sale then this whole situation would not have happened in the first place. His time as a Vigilante should have made him realize that. Now, someone was paying the price because of his own oversight. As he is lost in thought, he then noticed the fearful look at his childhood bully one last time, he looks like he is asking for help. The same face he had used to make whenever he was in trouble.

WITH BAKUGOU POV:

DAMN! This isn't how I die!

Bakugou sent another explosion, but it was again redirected. He saw it blowback Death Arms.

Oh no, this can't be how I die. Not against a Sludge Villain! He thoughts, No, I'm the future No.1 Hero! This piece of crap is not going to kill me today!

But as he says that he could feel himself slowly blackout. He was losing consciousness more and more.

"Don't worry kid, when you die, I won't just throw away your body. It's going to help me kill All Might."

Like hell, it is! He sent an even bigger explosion but all it did was cause more collateral damage.

No, no, no, NO...Can't...keep going...I'm going to die? I...need...help...

And then something grabbed his hand. He looks to see a vaguely familiar person.

"Wait a minute," the villain said, "IT'S YO-!" But didn't finish as the figure tore Bakugou effortlessly away from the villain. Bakugou started to breathe harder and looked at his rescuer and his jaws almost dropped to the ground at the familiar face.

DEKU?!

"DIE!" The villain shouted as he swung his hand towards Izuku.

"Sorry, but I'm going to have to vent on that," Izuku replied without any sort of emotion as he raised his moving fist and contacted the villain in fast motion.

PUNCH!

Suddenly, a humongous shock wave erupted from his arm and sent the villain away in pieces, as well as extinguishing every fire in the vicinity and changing the weather.

"Can't believe I missed a sale for this..." He mutters annoyingly as he wipes the slime off his fist and leaves in a black blur before the reporters can interview him and see his face.

As he quickly left, Bakugou stared in shock at what happened.

He wasn't the only one, All Might's jaw dropped at the sight too.

"What the hell just happened?!" Where both their thoughts.

NEAR THE MUSTAFU TRAIN STATION:

"Stupid Sludge Villain," He mutters bitterly as he walks to Tatooine Train Station, "That was a big sale of All Might Merch, now I have to wait until next year." After defeating the Sludge Villain a second time, our young hero, unfortunately, missed the Bargain Sale as he was 10 minutes late from the store and had no choice but to wait for the next sale until next year. At least he still has the groceries from the other shop.

"DEKU!"

"...Oh No, not him of all people. Could this day be any more eventful?"

Izuku groans in annoyance as he recognizes a familiar voice from behind. He had to leave earlier to avoid the press and he was not bothered to deal with Bakugou's repulsive attitude. As the times passed over the years with his old childhood playmate, Midoriya... well had long since come to terms with the fact that the two of them weren't as close as they'd been as kids. As far, as he knew, they were not even considered friends anymore and being away from him really helped on that matter. There were only a few times the two would interact with each other and most of their past conversations would include Bakugou expressing foul comments or even trying to insult him verbally whenever they did run to each other outside of school or just a heated glare, but it would not go anything beyond that.

If Midoriya were still a child, he would have been very nervous around Bakugou in his presence. However, he had grown older and more confident with himself and his abilities that he wasn't imitated by him at all because compared to most of the Villains that Midoriya has faced as a Vigilante, Bakugou was not really that imitating anymore. Besides, in each of their encounter, Midoriya would only silently sigh at his childhood classmate's immaturity. He knew Bakugou had clear animosity specifically at him but he had never understood why everything he did had made him so angry.

Needless to say, Katsuki Bakugou has always been some source of conflict in Midoriya's personal life. Katsuki had developed a rather arrogant and self-inflated view of himself because of the constant praise he had received as a natural-born talent. Whereas Midoriya had to break his limits in order to become stronger, Bakugou was a natural-born prodigy since birth.

And when his Quirk "Explosion" manifested, it didn't get any better. All the shallow praise he received from everyone around him got into his head, believing that every villain he faced would simply be blown away by his Explosions. He thought that he was some Shonen Protagonist in some Weekly Shonen Jump Manga and that the entire world revolved around him. And if anyone ever got in his way, he would lash out shouting at them thinking they were looking down on him. He was very unkind to others and nobody around him apart from his parents ever tried to correct his behaviour. While Midoriya admitted that Bakugou had a lot of confidence in himself to become a Hero and knew he trained hard to control his Quirk and had perfect scores, he knew that nobody is born without flaws. However, neither of the teachers of his school didn't think about correcting his behavior due to how arrogant Bakugou was and they didn't want to get on his bad side at all. In conclusion, his attitude came from the privilege of being talented and having a good quirk, as well as getting praised for the shallow stuff as a kid.

So to put it bluntly, He was a Jerk.

Literally.

Sighing in defiance, he casually turned around and saw Bakugou running toward him in anger despite him slightly panting for breath.

''What do you want Kaachan? I'm not in the mood today.'' Izuku replied with a bored tone with a tint of annoyance in his tone as he just wanted to go home and rest before beginning his patrol.

As Bakugou managed to get a hold of his breath, he gave Midoriya a pissed-off expression as he marched and grabbed his school jacket.

"You Bastard, What the hell was that back there?! How did you of all people manage to defeat the Sludge Guy in ONE BLOW when I couldn't do a single thing out there?! And what in the hell is up with your hand?" He shouted into his face as he gestured to his right hand which was still covered in white hot steam.

Bakugou looked absolutely livid that he was to pop any moment as he glared into Izuku Emerald's Eyes.

"You...! Did you lie about being Qurikless?! Did you actually have a Quirk this whole time? Were you just looking down at me behind my back? You can't get a Quirk unless you are Four Years Old?! Why the hell didn't you use this until now!? Explain yourself, Nerd!" Bakugou glared at him hoping to get answers at him

Instead, Izuku blinked once.

Then blinked twice.

Then blinked three times.

Before his face scrunched up in sheer incredulity at the Question at hand.

"...You cannot be serious right now." Midoriya then grabbed his wrist much to Katsuki's shock, yanking his grip away from his collar without his collar as he stared intensely at Bakugou which made him uncomfortable. "My whole life, I've wanted to be a hero. I've spent the last few years training my body and mind to get this strong and to be able to do what you saw today so I could become a Hero like I dreamed to be. And the reason I have never used it till now is that unlike you, I don't need to show off my power to people just so I can feel good about myself. So you can be upset as much as you want, however, I still plan on being a hero regardless of how you feel about it."

The face on Bakugou's face said it all as it was one of shock as he stood there unable to speak a single word. Izuku looked at Bakugou's expression and shook his head in dismissal. He already said what needed to be heard and had other important things to do than wait for the Blonde-Pomerium's response. So without further do, he turned around and headed his way to the train station. His Mother wouldn't want him to be late and he didn't want to miss out on his night patrol.

Besides, he was going to have Katsudon for dinner.

FIVE MINUTES LATER:

"I AM HERE!" All Might shouted as he appeared around the corner. He finally tracked the kid, and after seeing the power the kid displayed, he wanted to talk with him. After all, that power was comparable to One For All.

He went around the corner hoping to finally see the kid but only found the blonde boy who was held hostage standing in anger and muttering curses for someone called Deku as he did not notice his presence at all.

…Did I miss something Important?

"He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life."

Muhammad Ali.
