After Koga's departure, everyone began tidying up the ballroom. The twins and Shippou gathered the presents, preparing to transport them to the cave, while others focused on storing the leftovers. Allison and Victoria took charge of the dishes and ensured everything was neatly packed away.
Once the room was spotless, they all exchanged goodnight wishes. The twins and Shippou, arms laden with presents, made their way to the cave, placing the gifts inside with as little noise as possible, respectful of the night's stillness.
Meanwhile, Scott and Inuyasha retreated to their bedroom, their day's exhaustion evident in their every step. As they entered, Inuyasha, overcome with fatigue, nearly toppled over, but Scott caught him just in time.
With a tenderness that spoke of deep love, Scott carried Inuyasha bridal style, maneuvering through the door before shutting it with a soft nudge of his foot.
He gently laid Inuyasha on the bed momentarily to lock the door, then swiftly returned to him, helping him out of his clothes. Both men undressed, leaving their worn garments in a hamper. Without wasting any time, Scott once again lifted Inuyasha, carrying him to the bathroom.
The soft glow of the bathroom light roused Inuyasha from his drowsy state, prompting a groan of protest. "What the heck, hun? I was sleeping!"
"I know," Scott replied, his voice gentle, "But we both need a shower after today."
Inuyasha groaned again, burying his face in Scott's chest. "I don't care. I'm exhausted and just want to sleep."
"Promise we'll shower now, and I'll make it up to you in the morning," Scott teased.
"Deal!" Inuyasha agreed, his tone lightening.
Post-shower, Scott meticulously dried them both, paying particular attention to Inuyasha's hair to make brushing easier. Once dry, they exited the bathroom and Scott discarded the used towels.
Both made their way to the bed, where Scott took a seat, pulling Inuyasha onto his lap. Retrieving a brush from the bedside drawer, Scott began untangling Inuyasha's locks. After ensuring every knot was gone and the hair lay straight, Scott placed the brush back in its spot.
They nestled under the covers, drawing warmth from each other's embrace, and soon drifted into a dream-filled sleep.
Two months had since passed, and life had settled into a routine. Every day, Adrian seemed to master the art of walking a little more. Meanwhile, Shippou and the twins went on multiple dates, deepening their bond. The pack also celebrated a memorable Halloween.
But as life continued, they couldn't avoid the looming grief. Plans began for Aiden and Hojo's funerals, reminding everyone of their loss.
One morning, just days before Thanksgiving, the tranquil silence in Scott and Inuyasha's room was shattered by insistent pounding on the door. Roused from their slumber, the pair quickly donned robes over their bare forms and approached the entrance. As Scott opened the door, they were both playfully ambushed by an energetic Adrian.
"Hey, godfather and Uncle Scott! How are you both?" Adrian greeted with an infectious grin.
Scott, clearly taken aback, responded, "Did you just speak, Adrian?"
Adrian proudly nodded. "That's amazing, godson! You're developing so swiftly; it's impressive."
"I was surprised at first, too, but now I'm getting the hang of it," Adrian said with a cheeky grin.
"But what brings you here so early, little one?" Scott asked, ruffling Adrian's hair.
Shippou told me he's officially dating the twins!"
"Really? My nephew's in a committed relationship?" Inuyasha exclaimed, surprise evident in his voice.
"Absolutely! He's practically over the moon right now, though a bit overwhelmed. His father is trying to soothe him."
Adrian continued with a glint in his eyes, "Anyway, how about you both treat them to a shopping spree and a dinner to celebrate?"
Scott glanced at Inuyasha, searching for his opinion. After a thoughtful pause, Inuyasha nodded in agreement.
"Great! But," Adrian held up a finger, "I have one condition. I want to join. I've been confined to the castle grounds for so long. I'd love to explore the outside world once in a while."
"That's not a bad idea, son," a voice chimed in.
All three turned sharply, startled by the unexpected addition. Koga stood at the entrance with a smirk.
"Pack father, how long have you been standing there?" Inuyasha inquired, eyebrows raised.
Long enough to witness a one-year-old topple two grown men simultaneously and relay some exciting news," Koga remarked with a smirk, amusement dancing in his eyes.
Scott and Inuyasha's faces turned a shade of deep crimson at the playful jab.
"Are you two going to laze around all day or get dressed so we can head out?" Koga teased.
"Alright, alright, just give us five minutes," Scott replied, holding up his hands in a placating gesture.
Adrian offered a nod of acknowledgment and left the room, with Koga closing the door behind him for privacy. True to their word, five minutes later, the door swung open to reveal Scott and Inuyasha, now appropriately dressed. They stepped out, following Adrian to the castle's main entrance.
There, Ethan, the twins, and Shippou were already gathered, engrossed in conversation.
"Hey everyone, how's it going?" Scott greeted them with a friendly tone.
"We're doing great!" the trio responded in unison.
Shippou, congratulations on the new relationship," Scott began warmly, "And you two," he addressed the twins, "treat him well. Shippou's had a rough go of things, and he deserves all the happiness in the world."
Inuyasha chimed in, "Thanks for the sentiment, uncles. And don't worry, I trust these two completely."
"That's great to hear," Scott replied, a genuine smile playing on his lips. "But enough of this chit chat. Let's get moving."
With a renewed sense of purpose, the group made their way outside, piling into the waiting carriage. Koga took his place at the front, next to Ethan, substituting for Chris who was under the weather, with his mate Peter tending to him. With a nudge and a shout, Koga spurred the horses into motion, and their journey began.
