A/N: Chapter 9 is in the making.
The next morning, Sakiko woke up like usually, despite going to bed late due to the many tests Reborn gave her. She quickly got ready and left the house for her morning run. This time, she chose to run quickly, but not her full speed, however, the running time wasn't shortened. She needed to keep up her stamina for the time danger came knocking on the front door.
When she returned home, Sakiko was genuinely surprised to see a guest in the form of her future aunty Muira Haru in the kitchen.
"Welcome home, Sakiko-chan. How was your run?" The matriarch asked and put a glass of water on the table before returning to the meal preparation.
Sakiko nodded her head as a thank you and took a few gulps before answering, deliberately ignoring the shocked and then penetrating gave of a certain girl. "It was alright. Thank you."
"Ano… who are you? Haru has not seen you before." The future aunt spoke up.
"My name is Sakiko. I am a friend of Reborn's. Nana-san has allowed me to stay here. And you are… Haru?"
"Yes. Muira Haru. Will you help with the food preparations?" Haru asked.
"I see. I would love to help, Muira-san, but I have duties as a Disciplinary Committee member that I must see to. I will clean up and leave."
"Sakiko-chan. You must eat something." Nana reminded in a matronly tone, which made Sakiko pause.
"Oh. Right. Maybe I could have something to eat as I go?" The future donna offered as he washed the now empty glass clean. She had already forgotten about her talk with Nana about her eating habits. "I really need to be at school earlier today to oversee everything to be in order for the festival."
"Alright. I'll make something. You go prepare." The matriarch accepted the compromise and turned to make the girl's breakfast.
Sakiko went upstairs, took a quick shower, put on her school's uniform, and made sure all of her battle accoutrements were hidden on her. Not noticing anything missing, she went downstairs. There was a plate with two onigiri waiting for her. She put on her shoes, took an onigiri and said, as she opened the door to outside: "Thank you. I am going now."
On the top of the fence stood Reborn, dressed in his usual attire, and Leon on top of his hat, as well.
"Buongiorno, Reborn." Sakiko greeted the hitman in Italian as she went up to him.
"Buongiorno. Here is your phone." Reborn answered as he pulled out her foldable phone and gave it to her. As Sakiko took it, she found out that it had become heavier than before, even though it looked the same on the outside.
"What did you change?"
"You'll find it more durable and able to find signal in unlikely places." He answered.
Sakiko thanked the Sun Arcobaleno as she pocketed the phone and then continued her way to school, as ate the lonesome onigiri. Once the food was consumed, she took the phone out and browsed through it to find out that now she could set the phone language to any in the world, strangely even in Latin, had limitless internet data, and that now she had, not only Reborn's number, but also Vongola Nono's, CEDEF leader's – grandfather's - number, Dino Cavallone's and Talbot's number. She hoped that Reborn had simply added the numbers and had not revealed them about her secret. The less knew, the better. After setting phone language to Italian, Sakiko pocketed the device and increased her movement speed to a light jog.
The school's territory was already bustling with activity. The stands were being put up, ropes set to separate the contestants from one another, and so on and so forth.
"Where is your armband?" Kusakabe asked from behind her. Sakiko turned to look at him, her arm, and then back at him.
"I must have not noticed it missing. My apologies." She replied in a formal tone. "May I borrow one for today, and return it after the festivities?"
What surprised Sakiko was Kusakabe's next action. Instead of saying 'yes' or 'no', he turned to one of the underlings and said: "Take off your jacket and give it to her."
"There is no need for that. Surely, there must be a spare I could borrow." Sakiko protested. She could easily deal with Hibari's wrath for missing an important piece of uniform, while the other person would be 'bitten to death'.
"There is no spare."
"But…" Sakiko started protesting again but was cut off by a very strong Cloud flame approaching, and Kusakabe stating: "Too late."
"Where is your armband?" Hibari asked. Sakiko turned to face her future parental guardian to see him be quite calm. But she knew better than to think that he wouldn't attack any given moment.
"I forgot it, being in a rush to get here."
There was a moment of very tense silence. Everyone present was holding their breath to see how the 'demon' would react to her statement.
"And why I shouldn't bite you to death, like any other herbivore, for it?"
This statement made yaws drop open for most of the present. Hibari would have simply beaten up anyone else, except, maybe, Kusakabe.
"Because in such an event as this, every pair of eyes to oversee discipline is useful, even if one of them do not have the Disciplinary Committee armband. Bitten to death eyes can not do that. If my lack of proper attire disables me from doing so, I could remain inside and do paperwork instead."
There was another moment of tense silence. The surrounding students had stopped doing what they were supposed to do to see this unusual situation play out.
"Get back to work!" Sakiko snapped at the viewers, removing her gaze from Hibari. Everyone, except Hibari and Kusakabe, jumped at the sudden commanding tone from Sakiko. "This is no theatre for you!"
No one moved. That is, until Hibari turned his attention to them with a glare. That got everyone go back to their business, too scared even to peek to see the ending.
"Get inside." Was Hibari's order to her which she gladly complied to, happy to have avoided a fight. Or so she thought. "To the roof."
After getting to the said part of the school's building, Hibari attacked, not even waiting for Sakiko to face him. If she weren't so accustomed to keeping tabs on all flames around her, and this Hibari's nature, it would have hurt a lot. Sakiko rolled to the said and raised both of her arms up in a sign of surrender.
"There is something you should know."
"I don't care."
Another attack on her.
"It is defilation of Namimori. A drug dealer." That made him pause.
"Report."
"Yesterday, in an alley, I saw a drunk person, unconscious, with an empty syringe next to him. I would like to request your mobile phone number to report such things to you immediately."
"Get Kusakabe's."
"So, a drug dealing organization information, and other defilations of such caliber, you want to hear second-hand?" Sakiko pushed an invisible button. She would not walk away empty-handed now that they were alone where others could not hear them.
"Fine." Even before Sakiko was ready to write the number down, Hibari quickly said the numbers. Once the contact number was added, she repeated it to be sure she got it right. After that a spar was issued because Hibari was bored. However, this time it was very short, compared to other spars, because the athletics festival started, and it demanded Hibari's attention. Though, strangely, Hibari followed her to the Reception room and sat on the window sill to observe from above, and not go outside. But, then again, there were a lot of people there and he hated crowding.
Over the course of the festival, the energy of all three teams and viewers escalated, but so did the discontent about Team A. Apparently, Sawada Tsunayoshi was behind the sabotage of the other two team leaders and strong individuals. During lunch break it was decided that teams B and C would go together against team A in the pole-knocking competition. It was announced through the intercoms.
"That sounds like something Reborn would do. Tsunayoshi is too meek for sabotage." Sakiko mused outload as Hibari went out. She quickly took the head prefect's previous perch to observe the end of the festival.
The caramellette couldn't help but let out a 'hyuu' when she saw Hibari walk out of the building and easily get on top of team B and C's pole. "Hibari-sama is actually taking part in the competition… but then again… he had to show the crowd who is the carnivore."
However, she quickly ended up face-palming. Reborn had shot Tsuna with a dying will bullet, but Tsuna ended up on the ground, despite his three guardians catching him on their shoulders and trying to bring him to Hibari. Seeing the epic flop, Sakiko wondered what kind of miracle Reborn was able to perform to make her to-be-father into her father. This Tsuna, despite his hidden heart, was - even if it was painful to admit – useless. She decided to return to the paperwork.
"I assume you will want another spar?" Sakiko asked, as Hibari was entering the room, not even looking up from the papers in front of her. Sensing a spike in the cloud flames of her future mentor, she looked up right in time to see a tonfa being thrown at her. She caught it in the last second before the weapon collided with her head.
"Have you thought about adding some weight to these?" She asked, as she weighed the tonfa in her hand. It was lighter than her Hibari's.
"Why?"
"If you were to wield heavier tonfa than these, you would become stronger." She put the weapon on the table.
There was a moment of silence. Sakiko could almost see and hear the cogs rotate in the teen's head. "Leave. Next time you are improperly dressed, I will bite you to death."
Sakiko didn't need to be told twice. She quickly tidied up her workplace, while Hibari went back to his perch by the window, and left. However, she paused by the door and looked back.
"You could also add some interesting features to the tonfa's as well. After all, imagination is the limit of possibilities."
Hibari didn't reply, however, he threw his other tonfa at her to get her moving, which she ducked under with a chuckle and left, leaving the boy to retrieve the weapon on his own.
The next couple of days were peaceful, as peaceful they can be with Reborn being Reborn. Gokudera still glared daggers at her but didn't open his mouth. Apparently, the punishment for the last incident from Reborn kept him in line. However, there was no sign of apology coming from him.
Sakiko's eating hadn't improved much either. After her morning jog, a glass of water and an onigiri on the way to school, despite there always being two on the plate. She didn't eat lunch and came home quite late. It was only then that Sakiko had to stuff her mouth with food under Nana's scrutinizing gaze.
A few more days passed without incident before Sakiko was awakened by a loud bang of a gunshot. It came from Tsuna's room, soon followed by Tsuna's panicked scream. It was different from his usual screech, so she grabbed her daggers and rushed to her to-be father's room, ready to kill whoever intruded. But she came too late. Apparently, Tsuna had grabbed Reborn's gun and done the horrid deed. She looked at him with pity. First kill for an innocent mind, it must have been a terrible shock. She put one of her daggered hands on his shoulder and looked in his eyes, squeezed the shoulder and left to dress herself in something more appropriate than pajamas.
Because today was a holiday from school, Sakiko dressed in the clothes she had arrived in, and hugged her brown coat. It was the last present from her father, and she cherished it even more now than before. She deemed that she needed to readjust herself to running in her heavy boots again, lest she lost her speed with them. As she was tying their strings – no zipper – she heard an explosion from above. She opened the door to outside to look up, only to meet the gaze of Hibari Kyouya. Sakiko blinked once and then smiled.
"Good morning, Hibari-sama."
He nodded his head as an acknowledgement.
"Why are you here?"
"The baby needed a favor."
"Will you go on patrol today?" He nodded his head.
"Do you mind if I join you? I just need to get the armband." Another nod.
Sakiko entered the building behind her and saw Bianchi coming downstairs.
"How is he?" The caramellette asked.
"Nothing to worry about. He didn't kill anyone. Moretti was simply showing off his abilities to the future Decimo."
"Moretti?" The girl asked, trying to remember if she knew any.
"He is a pro at being killed."
"I see. Could you get my armband, please? It is on the chest of drawers."
Bianchi nodded her head and went back upstairs. While Bianchi was gone, Sakiko lightly jogged on spot to readjust to the heaviness of her boots, and when the pinkette was back, she attached the band to her coat's sleeve.
"I'm going." Sakiko said and left the building.
Seemingly out of nowhere, Hibari had produced a helmet and stretched his arm for her to take it.
"What about you?" Sakiko asked.
"I don't need it."
"You need it no less than I do."
"Take it or walk." That she Sakiko up. Not because she would have to walk, but because this was a rare case of Hibari being sociable, letting her be close to him without them sparring. There was no way she would let this opportunity go waste over something as trivial as wearing a helmet.
Sakiko sat behind Hibari on his bike and put her hands on his wait to hold on. Hibari tensed, clearly not used to the contact.
"I have no intention of throwing you off. Or tickling you. Promise." She didn't know why she added the tickling part. Maybe to ease the tension he was feeling?
"I'll bite you to death if you try." With those words, the engine roared to life and the two of them drove away.
