Ahh my first fanfic in 4 years, I think? Of course, I had to try mixing my old love with my new love- Fruits Basket x SpyxFamily. What a combo.
This is just a one-shot but I suppose if anyone wants more or has any suggestions for more, I'd be open to continuing. This was really just to get me back in the mood of writing and boy, did it work!
Tohru was a wife.
Sometimes she still couldn't believe it. Even twisting the modest yet beautiful ring around her finger still didn't feel real. While she had long grown used to Kyo's presence, even it being just the two of them, she still felt that this newly gained title somehow made things a bit different.
Though she knew that Kyo had no expectations, no qualms, no demands- she still wanted to do her best to live up to being Mrs. Sohma. She wanted to do everything she could to support him because she knew he was doing the same for her. Working late into the evening, cleaning when he could, even learning to cook meals for her. She couldn't have asked for a better husband.
So tonight, she wanted to thank him. She would cook all his favorite dishes and then present him with the tickets she had been working so hard to save for- a weekend away at the new Spa & Bathhouse resort. Kyo had been training so hard lately that his muscles were all wound up and tight. He would never say it, but she saw the way he would sometimes wince before stretching his legs or arms as best he could. He was clearly in pain, but Tohru did not trust her massage techniques to help him feel much better.
So hopefully this place, with its heated outdoor baths, toasty saunas and world-class massages would be able to help!
Smiling at the thought, Tohru hoisted her grocery bags up higher and practically ran out of the store.
In her haste and much to her surprise, she crashed right into another woman. Tohru teetered back, her eyes widening as her weight shifted backwards and then they widened even more when she felt a hand wrap around her wrist and pulled her back to a standing position.
"I'm sorry!" Both Tohru and the woman shouted simultaneously.
"No, it was my fault! I shouldn't have been rushing," Tohru apologized, bowing multiple times as quickly as she could.
The woman shook her head and her hands at the same time. "No, no! I should have been watching where I was going. Please forgive me," she also gave a bow, her long black hair cascading over her shoulders.
"Okay, it was both of your faults. Can you move now?" a man behind Tohru asked, his voice exasperated as he held his groceries in both hands and shook them as he spoke.
"Ah! I'm so sorry sir," Tohru apologized again, stepping out of the way so that the man could walk past. When he did, Tohru turned back to the woman and gave an awkward laugh. "Thank you for catching me, by the way. Your reflexes are so fast!"
The woman gave a small, pleased smile. The twinkle in her dark eyes seemed to whisper I know something that you don't know, but Tohru certainly wasn't sure what that could be. Either way, her smile seemed friendly enough and that was all that Tohru needed to put her at ease. "Have a good night," the woman said, sparing a small wave as Tohru finally exited the building and hurried off, intent on cooking that meal sooner than later.
Yor hummed as she took another step into the grocery store, but stopped in her tracks when she noticed an envelope on the ground. She bent to pick it up. On the front, only "For Kyo" was written. Yor raised her eyebrows when she turned the envelope and noticed that it was unsealed. Slowly, she opened it and pulled out 2 tickets labeled "Spa Pass".
Then she pulled out a note. At first, she hesitated to read it. After all, it could have been private- but if she wanted to find out who these tickets belonged to, maybe this could provide her with a clue!
So, she read:
Dear Kyo,
Thank you for being such a great husband. Every day with you is like a dream come true. Please accept this picture and this ticket as a token of my love. I love you. With all my heart.
-Tohru Sohma
Yor couldn't help but smile at that. A soft, warm feeling spread out in her chest. Finally, she pulled out the final contents of the envelope.
It was a picture of a boy with orange hair, looking away from the calendar with what appeared to be a furious blush. This must have been Kyo.
Besides him, was a girlwith a bright, dazzling smile, long brown hair and- it was the girl that Yor had just bumped into! She must have dropped the envelope when they had crashed into each other.
Yor gasped and turned back towards the door. Surely, Tohru could not have made it too far!
Her grocery shopping could wait for later. Yor didn't know her, but judging from her letter, Tohru was a good wife. And even though Yor's marriage was fake, there was still something that spurred her that made her want to do her best for Loid too. Somehow, this Tohru person felt like a kindred spirit in that regard.
She sprinted out the door, the sound of her heels clicking against the concrete. She had to find her!
No.
Tohru had already gotten several blocks away from the grocery store by the time she had noticed. She reached into her jacket pocket to pull out her phone, but then noticed that the envelope was no longer there.
She knew she should have worn a purse to go pick up the tickets and stop by the grocery store, but she had thought that she didn't want anything weighing her down since she didn't want Kyo to have to come help her carry anything!
Tears welled in her eyes, a sense of panic creeping up on her- she needed to backtrack. Maybe she had dropped it! She was pretty sure she had it before going into the grocery store, so- ah! Maybe it had fell out when she had bumped into the woman with the beautiful shining hair! Dinner would be late now, but she could at least start it before Kyo would get home.
Turning back, Tohru prepared herself to start running, when suddenly her arm was grabbed, and she was pulled into the alley she had been standing beside.
"Hey pretty, you lost?" a gruff voice said. Tohru looked up to see a man with five o'clock shadow, glazed eyes and a stench of alcohol so strong that it made her nose hairs burn.
"O-oh…no…I was just heading to the store," Tohru said softly. She stepped to the side, but the man followed, blocking her path.
His lips parted, displaying his yellowed teeth. "I think you're better off with me." His hand tightened on her arm.
Tohru pulled back and balled up her fist on her free arm. She wasn't a violent person by any means- but Kyo had been sure to instill in her the importance of being able to defend herself. She would give him her best punch, which would hopefully shock him into letting go, even briefly, then run for it while screaming for help at the top of her lungs.
But just when she was pulling her arm off to give it her best shot, the man flew back, out of sight. Tohru gasped. Suddenly, standing in his place, was the woman from the grocery store!
Her eyes were sharp and focused, the scowl on her face nothing like the kind, open expression she had shown Tohru earlier.
"What the-" the man started, but was swiftly shut up when the woman hiked her foot up and kicked him square in the jaw. He flew back again, this time landing into a pile of trash bags that had been sitting next to a dumpster.
"You're disgusting," the woman spat. She reached into her coat and took a step forward, but before Tohru could find out what she was going to do next, Tohru grabbed her arm. The woman's intense eyes widened, as if she was suddenly remembering that Tohru was even there.
"Let's go and call the police while he's knocked out!" Tohru said, tugging on her arm.
"Ah- yes," the woman agreed. They fled from the alley.
Yor had allowed Tohru to call the police and tell them where the man was. Luckily, Tohru did not seem to want to face the authority either, so it was an anonymous call.
"Thank you so much for saving me!" Tohru said, her big brown eyes shining as she looked at Yor.
They were in a nearby park, sitting on the swings and catching their breath after their mad dash from the alley.
"Oh, it was no trouble, really!" Yor felt a bit flustered and hoped that Tohru didn't notice. She had been ready to kill that man. He was the type of men that she regularly assassinated- horrible, vile men that were beyond forgiveness. But luckily Tohru had stopped her and brought her back to reality. "Ah, that's right! You are Tohru, right?"
Tohru's eyes widened in shock. "H-how did you know-?"
Yor pulled out the envelope from her bag and handed it to Tohru. "I found this in the grocery store. I'm sorry for snooping, but when I saw your picture…oh! Are you alright? D-did I say something wrong or- what do I do? How can I help?" Yor stood up, panicking at the sight of the tears welling in Tohru's eyes.
"N-no…I'm sorry! It's just," the tears slipped down Tohru's cheeks, but her smile showed that these weren't tears of sadness. "You came back for me after finding this envelope?"
Yor nodded, unsure of what else to say, and Tohru continued, "that was so sweet of you! Really, it was! Not everyone would have done that. You could have kept the tickets for yourself. A-and you even saved me after, even though that man could have had a weapon…I don't know how to thank you." The tears kept falling, but now even Yor was smiling.
"Tohru-san…when I saw your letter to your husband," Yor took a deep breath and looked down, hiding her eyes beneath her bangs. "I thought it was so thoughtful of you, so kind. I had to find you to give it back to you, not only because it was the right thing to do…but because I admire you, just from that letter. I thought, if only I could be a wife like that to Loid-san. T-that's why…I had to…"
She felt Tohru's hands clasp her own. Yor lifted her chin and found herself staring into Tohru's big brown eyes. "I don't even know your name but…" as Tohru spoke, Yor felt her own tears start to well up too. "But I am sure you are a great wife! You thought about me and went out of your way to come find me. I am sure that your Loid-san sees what a thoughtful person you are."
Yor felt a blush coloring her cheeks. She couldn't help but feel pleased, to hear that out loud, to dare even hope that what Tohru was saying was true. Tohru-san…thank you," she said, her voice barely above a whisper, "I'm Yor. Yor Forger."
The grin that broke out on Tohru's face was one that Yor would never forget. "It's so nice to meet you!"
By the time Tohru and Yor had finally gone their separate ways, Tohru knew that Kyo would beat her home. Dinner would be late, but she was sure he wouldn't mind too much.
She hugged her envelope close to her chest. Thanks to Yor, she still had the present to give to him.
She had made a new friend today, that she would hopefully see again. She felt a little guilty for a moment. Tohru couldn't help but be a little glad to have met someone that seemed to feel as if married life was a little overwhelming, in the sense that she wasn't sure if her best was always good enough. But if she used Yor as a mirror, she knew that it was. It had to be.
Tohru smiled. Hopefully, she would get to hang out with and get to know Yor even more!
And just wait until she told Kyo about Yor's fighting moves!
