"Mary..." the Doctor said, "...I'm sorry."
"For letting my husband die?" Mother Mulholland replied, "For killing off countless species in the universe to make a desert called Peace? Or that you were told the truth?"
"All of them." The Doctor stood back up, "I've had to make many hard decisions to make sure the universe didn't go to hell. I didn't know about your husband, I didn't command the Nestene Consciousness to come to Earth, and the Thals weren't even on Skaro when the Hand of Omega destroyed it. Such are the lies that are given to you by the Black Guardian."
"Is that what he's called?"
"The embodiment of all that is evil in the universe, including falsehoods. I'm afraid he has been manipulating you to get back at me, ever since I thwarted his schemes multiple times." The Doctor looked at Jessica and Ryan. "And I fear he's beginning to mobilise against me."
"So you're saying he won't bring my husband back?"
The Doctor looked back to Mother Mulholland work a solemn look. "Yes."
Mother Mulholland's face went pale. She picked up the knife that she dropped. "I'm sorry, Doctor."
"Mary, no!" But it was too late. Mother Mulholland drove the knife into her abdomen and sliced across. She was killing herself. The Doctor caught Mother Mulholland and softly put her on her floor. The Doctor began to tear up. "Why?"
"I'm already going to Hell for what I've done, so I have given up my own life in repentance." Mother Mulholland looked up at the ceiling and said "God, I'm sorry." before dying.
The Doctor stood up. Ryan recognised the Doctor's look, the same look she had when the destruction of Gallifrey was brought up. "Doctor," Ryan said, "keep calm."
"I'm as calm as I can be. Jessica, moisturise Janine. She needs water to be able to go back to Bane World. Ryan, go back home."
"Why? This Black Guardian bloke is-"
"Not your problem. Besides, the killings have stopped. The case is solved. Now, go home."
"Okay then. See you, Doctor."
The Doctor nodded and Ryan left. The Doctor came up to Jessica. "So the Black Guardian isn't his problem," Jessica said, "but apparently, he's mine?"
The Doctor began to help Jessica moisturise Janine. "Let me tell you about a woman. Her name was Romanadvoratrelundar, but I just called her Romana for short. She hated it, but got used to it. When I was searching for the pieces of a universe-altering artifact known as the Key to Time, the White Guardian paired me with her. She was cold, cocky, spoiled, and as much as I don't like to admit it, very pretty. She helped me massively in getting the pieces, despite being involved in some political nonsense along the way. I encountered one of the Black Guardian's servants near the end of that journey, then he himself once the pieces were all together. I managed to escape him, by which time Romana decided to regenerate. She would eventually leave me, though. Stayed behind in a parallel universe. I haven't seen her since."
"And you bring her up because...?"
"Because you remind me of her. A lot."
"So you basically just called me cold, cocky, and spoiled?"
"And pretty."
"Thanks for that backhanded compliment."
"Yeah, I should have passed it a lot better than I did. Sorry."
"Apology accepted."
"Anyways, I need someone like her to help me face him. Someone like you. I can't kill him because then I would also have to kill the White Guardian. Balance and all that. I can make sure he's imprisoned, though."
"And if he's not imprisoned?"
"I did, then you, then he will end up running wild across the entire universe, with only the White Guardian to stop him, leading to a universe-shaking way that will lead to an apocalypse."
"Apocalypse?" Janine said as she was nearly completely moisturised.
"Oh, hey Janine. I'm the Doctor. I was meant to find you because of the killing you were doing. I know you didn't do so through your own power."
"And the woman who trapped me?"
"Dead."
"Thank the gods."
"Doctor, I think she's fully moisturised."
"She is." The Doctor stood back so that Janine could get up. Janine decided to put up her disguise again. "I'll tell everyone in the village that it was Mother Mulholland who was doing the killings. You'll be free to go back to Bane World without anyone suspecting you in particular."
"Actually, I want to stay here."
"You've been wandering around for twenty years and then you were captured."
"I've grown to love this place. I'm happy to spend the rest of my life here."
"In that case, goodbye."
"Goodbye, Doctor."
The Doctor and Jessica left the farmhouse and gathered the village folk, telling them that the murders were made to look like animal attacks. When the announcement was finished, they both got back into the TARDIS. The Doctor was staring at the console for the longest time. Jessica here concerned. "Doctor," she said, "are you alright?"
"Honestly, I don't know." the Doctor replied, "I knew he would be back, but when he was going to came back was something I didn't think much about. We need to find a way to seal him. That way, he'll still be alive and I won't have to kill the White Guardian for balance."
"Did someone mention me?" A booming male voice asked aloud. The Doctor and Jessica turned around and saw a man dressed completely in white, donning a dove on his head and brandishing a staff made of marble. "If the Black Guardian is up to his old tricks again, I should be involved in some way."
"Who the hell are you?"
"Jessica, allow me to introduce to you the White Guardian himself. He'll be helping us to stop the apocalypse."
