It all begins with a day revolving around the usual, normal routine. Being just before noon, the bullet trains were just beginning to be packed and offices were just about to go for a lunch break.
It was calm; like always.
BOOM!
Smoke filled the air and those near the center of the explosion started to run, unbalanced from the shaking. Workers inside office buildings miles away watch the smoke billow up into the air, watching the shockwave begin to travel towards them. Many begin to duck before the glass shatters.
A purple silhouette slowly stands from the large crater it created. The smoke clears somewhat to reveal a large masculine monster, glaring at everything around it in full disdain. It crouches down before jumping up high into the air, clenching its fist and forming glowing blue orbs around it.
It releases a shout as it waves its hand towards the city around it, making the orbs shoot out. Explosions start popping up, destroying most in their vicinity.
Heroes and the media are quick to rush over, only for the heroes to be defeated easily. The media records the complete decimation, panicked and terrified while explosions continue to happen around them.
"As you can see, loud explosions are going off behind me!" The reporter speaks quickly in his urgency. "The damage left by the monster is at an unprecedented scale. The Hero Association is currently analyzing the threat level–"
The beginning of an explosion right behind the news reporter is seen before the camera goes black; likely destroyed by the blast. The cafeteria television goes to static while dozens of students talk over each other.
"Man, I'm so lucky I didn't agree to transfer to City A!" A boy speaks with a hand over his rapidly beating heart.
"It must be a Dragon Level Threat! Did you see that destruction?!" A girl whispers to her friends who rapidly voice their agreement.
"Oh man! And that new edition was coming out today~!"
"Your parents work in City A! Do you think–"
A girl, no older than sixteen, with white hair, looking like it was chopped by a blender and reaching her upper back, and a white cape attached to her school uniform slowly stands from one of the only empty cafeteria tables. No one pays her any attention.
"Guess I'll go..." She mutters to herself, leaving her untouched food tray behind. She walks out of the cafeteria doors, the wind suddenly kicking up her cape to flow behind her.
A young girl wails loudly, covered in dirt with her clothes somewhat torn and her hands scraped up. Her eyes are clenched, terrified and confused, calling out loudly for her parents.
"Daddy! Mommy!" The girl bends her head down and cries into her fists, too scared to notice the large footsteps behind her. She continues to cry as the purple monster brings up its hand, suddenly flexing its arm to make it bigger.
The girl doesn't notice when the hand almost squishes her to death; a white and black flash suddenly appears around her when the hand closes. The purple monster opens its hand when there is no blood.
A teenager dressed in a black school uniform gently laid the girl down, her white cape almost floating above her from the immense speed. Her black skirt pooled over her shoes from her crouched position and the breeze slightly pushed up her sailor fuku, loose from how it was cut to reveal the girl's midriff.
"And who do we have here?" The purple monster demands, looking over at the brat that decided to save its prey.
The teenager smirks before standing up with her arms crossed to face the monster. "Just a girl who's a hero for fun."
Her face was plain and completely blank. No fear whatsoever could be deciphered from her demeanor.
"What kind..." The monster scowls deeply, "of half-assed backstory is that?"
The monster turns to face the brat who dared to get in its way, beginning its monologue, "I was formed from the constant stream of pollution with which you humans have suffused the Earth. I am Vaccine Man! The Earth is a single living–"
"Why is he monologuing?" The girl thinks with a tired sigh, already tuning out the speech. Something about humans being a disease and blah, blah, blah. She blinks blankly when the monster starts to grow bigger in its fury.
"–say you do this for fun? For fun?! How dare you confront–"
"Ah, he's talking about me now," The girl watches the monster become nearly as big as an office building. "This is getting boring..."
"Yet, what more could be expected from a hu–" The girl pulls back her fist and punches through the monster. The smoke suddenly dissipates from the shockwave and the monster is immediately turned to mush from the force behind the punch.
The girl stays staring ahead for a few moments before she starts to sweat. Her eyebrows furrow while she pulls back her smoking–literally–fist to stare at it.
"Not again..." She falls to her knees at the realization. "All it took was one punch."
She holds herself up by her hands before leaning back with despair etched across her face. "DAMN IT!"
Now with the inherent problem shown, let's go back to the real beginning of everything.
THREE YEARS EARLIER
A bloodcurdling scream can be heard across three blocks. Something cackles while people run for their lives... all except one.
"A monster!"
"Run!"
A 13 year old girl with short black hair looking like it was chopped up by a blender and a clearly secondhand and an oversized sailor fuku worn over her top skinny frame stands in the middle of the street. Her dark brown eyes, striking in their odd shade, were dull and almost completely lifeless.
The monster cackles again as it trudges through the middle of the street, only to stop in front of the young teenager. "Huh? You sure you don't want to run away?"
The crab looking monster holds up a claw over its eyes like it was searching for something around them. The girl sighs tiredly, closing her eyes to hide her eye roll and to avoid looking at the revolting bulge of the monster.
"I bet you're a newly transferred student already failing her classes. I ate too much crab and transformed into this, Crablante! Why aren't you running? Even ugly schoolgirls like you tend to run away when they see a monster," The crab monster continues, almost curious as to why a schoolgirl isn't begging for her life. "You've got a death wish. Is that right?"
The girl shrugs, glancing down towards the ground. "Not really. I'm no schoolgirl. I got expelled, again, because of the amount of school I missed. It was the last school here, so I'll probably be transferring to another city, again. I couldn't care less about anything. The expulsion cycle will just continue. So I'm in no mood to run just because the mighty Crablante has appeared."
Crablante cackles in amusement, making the girl blink. She was being sarcastic; did it not pick up on it? Oh well.
"So, what'll happen if I don't run?" The girl continues, not really caring to point out her own sarcastic joke.
The monster grins before pointing a blood-soaked claw directly in front of the teenager's face. The girl was too put out to even blink.
"Your eyes are lifeless, just like mine. From one set of lifeless eyes to another, I'll let you go." Crablante walks past, only to turn around with bloodshot eyes. "Besides, I'm hunting a different prey."
The girl hums curiously and watches the monster continue its march down the street.
"A big-chinned brat. And when I find him, I'm gonna rip his arms off!" The girl blinks before turning back around, not really bothered by the graphic threat.
She continues to wander, not really knowing what to do now that she was expelled. It wasn't even noon yet and she didn't really have anything to do back home.
What a shitty fucking day.
The girl blinks when she spots a line kid playing with a soccer ball in her peripherals. She turns her head and blinks at the huge ass butt chin on the kid's face. The kid stares back at her blankly.
"What're you looking at, ugly?"
"A big-chinned brat... If he's caught, he's dead!"
"Hey kid." The teenager didn't really care that she was still technically a kid too. "Were you messing with a big crab monster?"
The kid seems somewhat put off by the sudden question. "He was asleep in the park, so I drew some nipples on him with my marker."
A jolt of foreboding dread shoots through the schoolgirl. "It's definitely this brat... He has no idea what he's done. What do I do? I could still help... but man, this kid isn't cute at all."
The kid stares at the schoolgirl weirdly before going back to kicking his ball. "Ugly weirdo..."
The girl shrugs and starts walking away without another word. "It's none of my business... I should just walk away. Right, I mean. Who really cares?"
Maybe she should go to the supermarket. There might be some sales going on today.
"I found you!" Crablante thrusts its claw towards the big-chinned brat.
The schoolgirl holds the kid close to her chest as she leaps away from where the monster had attacked. She stares at the monster in complete shock, not even realizing she had moved a second ago.
"What the hell am I doing?!" She turns around, so her back would slide across the ground to protect the boy.
She gets up and pushes the boy away. "He's after you kid! Get outta here!"
The boy continues to sit there, somewhat shocked. The schoolgirl snarls and glares down at him.
"Don't worry about me. Just go!"
"B-but... my soccer ball..."
"Your damn ball?!" The schoolgirl shouts loudly. Why the fuck is this brat so worried about a ball over his life?! She snaps her head up when she hears a loud pop. Ah, there goes the soccer ball.
"Hey, what's the big idea? Don't tell me you're gonna protect that stinkin' brat!" Crablante exclaims angrily.
The girl scowls, feeling sweat dripping down her temple. "Come on, dude! You're really gonna kill him over some silly prank?! Think about this!"
The monster laughs mockingly, making the schoolgirl clench her teeth. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck. What is she doing? Why is she doing this? She's only a goddamn teenager!
"I've already mutilated lots of people. Whoever makes fun of the way I look pays the price. No exceptions. By the way, that brat drew nipples on my body. With a permanent marker!"
The schoolgirl desperately holds in an incredulous laugh. "Don't laugh, don't laugh. Fuck! Don't laugh!"
"Look at these claws! I can't even use a towel to wipe it off!" The schoolgirl doesn't even flinch when the claw is thrust nearly an inch away from her face. "Get in my way and I'll make sure you never go to another school again!"
The schoolgirl tilts her head down with shaking shoulders. She laughs quietly before it comes out as a full-blown laugh. She idly wanders, in the back of her mind, when was the last time she had even laughed. It certainly has been a while if she can't even remember.
"It just came to me! Dude, you look exactly like a villain from this anime I'm watching right now!" She cries out when she's suddenly slapped through the air, crashing right through the park bathroom's wall.
The big-chinned kid stares at the destruction before snapping his head forward when a shadow crawls over him. He gasps in fear as the monster pulls back its claw.
"Die!"
Before the monster could kill the crab, a rock is suddenly thrown at its head. It freezes for a few seconds before slowly looking over at the direction where the rock came from.
"Hold it right there." The schoolgirl slowly stands up fully, wiping away the blood falling down her face. "In this age of declining birth rates, I can't just let you kill a kid, dude."
The schoolgirl pulls off her ribbon around her neck and starts to wrap it around her knuckles. "You know what? I grew up reading manga and comics and I've always thought being a superhero would be kind of cool. I want to be a hero that can send loser villains like you flying with one punch!"
She tears off her sailor fuku, revealing a secondhand sports bra and her ribs severely poking out of her skin. She throws it to the side while glaring up at the monster.
"Fuck being in that hellhole called school for half of my life!" She holds up her covered fist with a snarl. "Bring it on!"
"Some hero you are!" Crablante raises its claw and slams it against the teenager.
"You're pathetic!" It throws the schoolgirl against the ground with its second punch. "You don't stand a chance against me, you ugly bitch."
The schoolgirl slowly sits up, gritting her teeth through the pain. She glares up at the monster as it stops before her.
"Your life ends... now!"
She jumps up before the claw could pierce her and lands on her hands on top of the crab claw. She pushes up and flips in the air, up and over the monster. She wraps her ribbon around the eye and tugs at it when she lands.
Crab meat, blood, and all of the monster's organs comes out of the small hole, it screaming in pain throughout the disgusting process.
The schoolgirl stumbles up onto her feet and pants heavily, staring down at the pile of inside-out crab. She raises her foot and slams it against the crab head, raising her covered hand to her forehead to create an L with her thumb and index finger.
"A loser just like that anime villain! I-di-ot!" She mocks through her pants.
What a fucking great day! This was only the beginning, Saitama is absolutely sure of it!
With the beginning finished, let's begin with the actual story... in the next chapter!
Hey! Hope you all like the new story! So, One Punch Man. Guys, you probably won't believe me, but I watched it for the first time a week ago and HOLY FUCKING SHIT.
I cannot believe I have gone SO LONG without watching it. It's so fucking funny. Like, it's great. Amazing. Love it. 9/10.
Also, Genos is my favorite character, because he is such an adorable cutie patootie and I want to give him so many hugs.
Anyways, like always when I start a fanfiction in a new fandom, it's genderbender main character time. Don't like it, don't read it. :P
Haven't read the manga (which I probably should with some of the things I came across) nor the webcomic, so... this might become a fucking trainwreck later down the line, but One Punch Man is a fantastic and hilarious trainwreck on its own, so it's all good.
I hope you all enjoyed the prologue! Bye.
