Memories of You
By: Yuki Mizuno
Summary: It's now the Christmas holidays in Peach Creek, but not everything is going well. Double D ends up in the hospital, going into a coma as soon as he arrives there. His two friends are distraught when they learn from him that someone has been threatening him for a while and for them to check for things in his house that the person may have left behind as evidence. After telling the police this, both Ed and Eddy go to Double D's house to help the police find out why this happened. It was here that Eddy found three journals; Double D had been writing in these journals for five years, with the most recent entry being a few days ago. Eddy decides to read a few entries to see if he can find any clues as to who did this to him.
MoY: Chapter 1
It was a calm, cold December morning here in the little town of Peach Creek. Christmas was almost around the corner; you could tell from all the decorations around the town and the neighborhoods. We soon zoomed in on a particular Cul-De-Sac, where we saw someone exiting their house with a messenger backpack, ready to head towards his school nearby.
The person exiting their house was a seventeen-year-old boy. He wore a loose brown jacket over his red-orange T-shirt, purple shorts that went to his knees, and a pair of light blue tennis shoes alongside some red socks. He also wore a black beanie over his messy, light blond hair, and his eyes were bright green in color. His name was Eddward Johnson; or Double D, as his friends usually called him due to the two Ds in his name.
Double D locked his front door behind him before walking off toward the entrance of his neighborhood. He then stopped for a moment at the entrance, proceeding to wait for his two friends to arrive. As he stood there, he started to cough a little bit, covering his mouth with his hand as he did.
"Oh dear, I hope I'm not coming down with a fever," Double D muttered to himself, putting his hand to his forehead a little to check. He noticed he was not feeling well late last night or this morning, but he could not tell if he had a fever or not; even the temperature on his thermometer was fine when he checked.
Double D could then see one of his friends approaching him from his house. His friend was a seventeen-year-old boy with very short, spiky dark blue hair that had three tuffs of spiked hair sticking out, and dark blue eyes. He wore a yellow hoodie over his yellow shirt that had a purple collar and sleeves with a vertical red stripe going down the left side of his shirt, a pair of blue jeans with a chain for his wallet around his pocket, and red tennis shoes. His name was Eddy McGee.
Double D smiled when he saw Eddy approaching, "Good morning, Eddy."
"Yeah, morning…" Eddy replied with a big yawn, "Ed isn't here yet?"
"No, not yet…" Double D said, looking over to Ed's house, "I'm sure he will be here soon. We don't want to run late for school."
The two teens stood there for a moment, waiting for their other friend to arrive. Double D glanced over to Eddy, making a small smile to him.
It had been four years since their final scam that summer. The scam itself was a disaster, making him and his friends run away to Eddy's brother's house. The trip pushed their friendship to its limits, but they found their way there, only for the rest of the kids to catch up to them.
It was then that everyone learned the truth about Eddy and his brother, Evan; Eddy had been lying this whole time about his brother being a good person after his brother tried to hurt both him and his friends before knocking himself out. The kids forgave them after what they saw, which made the Eds super happy that were now accepted by everyone else.
Since then, Eddy's attitude has changed a bit; he stopped trying to come up with scams and started to work on controlling his temperament, even if he still gets a little heated about certain things. Honestly, he has been doing a lot better lately, even more than he used to.
It was also during this time that Double D realized how much he cared about Eddy. While he was physically attracted to girls a lot more, he also felt the same way to his friend, as well as emotionally… Not that he would ever tell him that; it would be too awkward. He kept that personal stuff to himself, not telling his friend or anyone else about being bi.
"Geez, it's sure taking him a long time to get here," Eddy grumbled, "The heck is that lug doing?"
Double D thought about it for a moment, "Knowing him, he might have stayed up too long last night again, probably watching a movie of some kind."
"Yeah, maybe," Eddy sighed in irritation, reaching into his back pocket to take out his cell phone to look at the time, 6:45 am.
A few seconds passed by before Double D began to cough again. Eddy turned to his friend in confusion; the cough itself sounded visceral and loud, "Geez, don't tell me you're getting sick now. That's not good."
"… I'm not sure," was Double D's reply, "I wasn't feeling well last night or this morning, but I don't think it's a fever."
"It's probably just the cold weather messing with you or something," Eddy stated.
Double D nodded his head, "Maybe so."
A minute passed by once again with Double D continuing to cough more and more, 'Goodness, I didn't expect a fever to hurt this much…' he thought to himself. He stood there for a second before widening his eyes in horror, 'Oh. Oh no… H-He couldn't have!' Double D could feel himself start to sweat, but hid his panic from Eddy, 'I should call the hospital or poison control as soon as I can, but I don't want to alarm Eddy… I-I'll do it once I get to school.'
"Hey guys!" Called out a familiar voice behind them.
It was their other friend; he was a very tall seventeen-year-old boy. He had red-orange hair that was in a buzzcut and hazel brown eyes; not to mention his unibrow. He wore a long-sleeved green jacket that was over his red and white striped T-shirt, navy blue jeans that seemed a bit baggy, and black tennis shoes. His name was Ed Wendell.
"Good morning, Ed," Double D greets with a forced smile, trying to hide his panic, "Nice of you to finally join us…"
"Sorry about that!" Ed started to say, scratching the back of his head in embarrassment, "I stayed up longer than I wanted to last night. The movie that was on was cool and awesome!"
"We both figured as much," Eddy stated before looking down the road in the direction of their school, "Let's hurry up before it gets any later."
The three Eds started to walk down the sidewalk, heading towards the direction of their school which was close by, taking about twenty minutes to get there by foot.
Five minutes passed by with the three Eds still walking to school. Double D was still coughing a lot while they walked; Ed kept asking him if he was okay, "I'm alright," was Double D's reply to him with a smile every time.
Eddy kept glancing over to Double D each time he coughed as well. He could tell something was wrong, but he did not know what it could be; he was not exactly knowledgeable with knowing what people were sick with.
It was then that Double D started to sweat even more and grow pale on his face, trembling a lot before loudly coughing again, making him come to a complete halt as he was walking. He started to bend down to his knees to cough more viscerally, covering his mouth and clutching his chest as he did.
"Double D?!" Ed and Eddy yelped as they turned to their friend, who was gasping for breath while continuing to cough.
That's when they noticed something horrifying; there was something red in his hands and on the ground below him. Double D was coughing up blood, and there was a lot of it.
"Oh geez!" Eddy gasped as he quickly took out his cell phone to call 911. Ed had a look of panic on his face as he kneeled to his friend, not knowing what to do.
Double D continued to cough, trying to look up at his friends, "Ed. E-Eddy, I-I…"
That was when he collapsed to the ground. He had blacked out from whatever it was that was happening to him.
Ed helped Double D sit upright, despite him passing out just now, as Eddy called 911, "This is 911, what is your emergency?"
"My friend collapsed to the ground just now!" Eddy started to explain, trying his best to hide his panic, "H-He said he wasn't feeling well, and then he started to cough up blood before falling over!"
"I see. Where are you and your friend now?"
Eddy glanced at his surroundings before replying, "U-Umm, about five minutes away from the Peach Creek Cul-De-Sac neighborhood. We were on our way to school, Peach Creek High School; we're on the sidewalk right now between these places…"
"Understood, we will send an ambulance as quickly as we can. Please stay on the line for a moment and put your phone on speaker mode so we can try to help you and your friend."
"T-Thanks!" Eddy stated as he put his phone on speaker mode with a tap. He turned back to Ed and Double D, rushing over to his friend with his cell phone in hand.
Ed and Eddy could see Double D breathing heavily as he started to come back to his senses from blacking out, still clutching his chest in pain, "Ed, E-Eddy… Listen t-to me for a moment, p-please," he coughed again before continuing, glancing over to Eddy in particular, "S-Someone you know m-might have done this. They've b-been threatening me f-for a while. Please c-check everything… I-In and outside my house, o-okay? I give y-you two my permission t-to do so."
Eddy widened his eyes at what he was implying, "Are you trying to say someone poisoned you?!"
Double D viscerally coughed once again, "I-I'm positive," he replied before closing his eyes in pain, struggling to breathe properly, "I-I'm so sorry… For not s-saying what was going on to e-either of you. M-My chest is on fire…"
Ed started to tear up, "You gotta hold on, Double D!"
Eddy started to feel useless, clenching his fist a little before asking him an important question, "Who did this to you?!"
Double D opened his eyes back up to look at Eddy as he reached his hand out to him, trying his best to sit back up a little bit, "F-Forgive me, Eddy," he started to say before he pulled Eddy into a tight hug with a few tears falling from his eyes, surprising both of his friends.
They both stayed like this for a few long seconds in complete silence. Double D wanted to tell Eddy how he felt to him, but he still did not have the courage… This hug was all he could do to make himself feel better at the moment, knowing now he might not live for long anymore. Eddy could only stand there with him and Ed, not knowing what to say or do for his hat-wearing friend. He soon realized that Double D was never close to him like this before, which made what was happening hurt even more than he thought it would.
"… Eddy, I'm s-so sorry. It… I-It was y… y-your br—"
Double D started to painfully gasp again before he could finish what he was saying, passing out in front of Eddy, who quickly caught him before he could hit his head on the ground.
"Double D!" Eddy yelped as he laid his friend down to rest on the sidewalk. They both could see their friend was slowly starting to grow even more pale, almost ghostly white; the movement of his chest was becoming slower and slower, almost as if he was about to stop breathing.
Eddy widened his eyes as he heard the blaring sound of the ambulance coming down the street, 'Please, hurry!' He thought to himself in a panic.
The ambulance then parked close to them as the paramedics quickly exited the car to rush to Double D's side, "Step away for a moment, please."
The paramedics brought over a stretcher for Double D before putting him onto it. Another paramedic with them turned to the two other Eds, "Please, come with us. We need to know what happened so we can help your friend."
The two Eds nodded their heads as they got in the ambulance with Double D and the other paramedics, but not before Eddy picked his cell phone back up from the sidewalk with the 911 operator still on the other line. They heard what Double D said when he said someone poisoned him, contacting the police so they could know about this case.
