[This story is not canon to my other fanfics, other than the OC being related to my other protagonists. Enjoy!]
As the light of the red evening sun began to disappear from Victoria's room, Wilhelm Fuchs laid on the floor with Victoria, hands clasped, their green eyes staring at the ceiling.
"Why?" Wilhelm asked.
"Why what?" Victoria asked, turning her head to look at him.
"Why are we friends? I don't get along with most of your other friends. And we fight. All the time."
"I don't need a reason," Victoria said, slightly irritated by his question.
"Do you have one?"
Victoria paused for a moment.
"I can confide in you."
"Just me?"
"Just you."
Victoria let go of his hand and snuggled up to her friend, laying her head on his chest. In response, Wilhelm planted a kiss on her head and began to scratch it softly. After a long silence, he pressed the issue again.
"Why just me?"
Victoria sighed.
"I told you."
"You could talk to Courtney. Or Taylor. There's plenty of people you can talk to."
"I can talk to Taylor or Courtney. But not about everything. You know that."
Victoria rose up a bit so she could could look at him.
"What's wrong? Why are you asking me about this?" Victoria asked.
"I've been asked by a lot of people. Most people are confused about our friendship. Or they think we're a couple."
"Why do you care what they're asking and what they're thinking? When have you ever cared about that?"
"I guess I've been questioned about it so much, I start to question it myself."
"Don't. If I didn't love you, if I didn't want us to be friends, we wouldn't. I'm the queen bee around here. I have my pick of friends. Ever since you got here sophomore year, we've been close. You picked me and I picked you. Can we stop talking about this now?"
"Sure, V."
"Besides, who else can I speak French with? You taught me after all."
"Maybe I can teach you another language soon."
"We'll see."
With that, Victoria gave him a kiss on the check and laid back down on him and Wilhelm resumed scratching her head. The two of them stayed silent until they drifted off to sleep.
Two hours later...
Wilhelm woke up to the feeling of Victoria shifting her weight off of him. When he opened his eyes, he saw her smoking out the window.
"V."
"Sorry if I woke you," Victoria said.
"No, it's okay. Are you hungry? I want to go eat."
Victoria took one more drag of her cigarette before putting it out, dropping the bud, and shutting the window.
"Yeah, let me use the bathroom. Can you find my sweater and my leggings for me? It's cold outside."
"Of course."
After she left the room, Wilhelm did a bit of rummaging until he found her warm clothes. He laid them down on her bed and took a seat at her desk. He dozed off in short order.
Victoria returned to her room to find her clothes laid out neatly and her friend asleep in her chair. She quietly made her way to her clothes and changed into them. She then slowly walked behind him, gave him a hug, and then a kiss on the head. Victoria rubbed and scratched at his head softly and ran her fingers through his blond hair.
"Sorry, V," Wilhelm said softly while reciprocating the hug, "I haven't been sleeping so well for the last six months. Since-"
"-Since Rachel disappeared."
"Right.. It comes and goes. I was doing better last month."
There was a long silence between them.
"I'll just drop it for now."
"Thank you."
"Let's go. I'll drive. You're probably too tired."
"What do you want to eat?"
"Chinese?"
"Perfect."
She took his hand, and the two friends left her room, walked outside, and got inside Victoria's car. They shared no words for the first few minutes of the car ride.
"It's been six months and you still haven't told me what's going on with you," Victoria said.
Wilhelm didn't respond.
"Say something."
"I was in a good mood today. Please, Victoria. Some other time."
"You've been saying that for months."
"Tomorrow."
"Promise?"
"I promise."
"Okay, okay. I trust you. Tomorrow."
"Let's eat. I'm buying," Wilhelm said with a smile.
Victoria parked her car and they went inside the restaurant together.
It was already late by the time they arrived at the Blackwell Dorms and Wilhelm made sure to walk Victoria to her room.
"Want to eat with me?"
"Of course."
They then sat on the floor together and chatted as they ate.
"I'm glad to spend time with you again," Wilhelm said, "It's been a while."
"Too long," Victoria replied, putting her head on his shoulder as she spoke.
"It's getting late, I ought to get to bed."
When Wilhelm got up to leave, Victoria grabbed his hand to stop him.
"Can you stay with me? I'm not sure how much sleeping we'll be doing but I think it'll be worth it."
"Anything for a friend."
