Life if like a book some chapters are sad, some are happy, and some are exciting but if you never turn the next page you'll never know what that chapter has in store for you.
I don't own fairy tail
Blood. It was everywhere, and that was all Natsu could see as he looked around at what used to be his vibrant and full of life home. His eyes, which used to hold a burning passion and kindness, were now only filled with sorrow and regret as he looked around the town he loved. With each step, his heart became heavier and more burdened.
He stopped in front of a broken building; the wood was broken, the windows shattered, and the huge sign that used to harbor so much love now hung off the side by its corner barely holding on for its life. Natsu looked at the wide doors that had scratches and slight burn marks. Opening them as gently as he could, he didn't want to break them any more than they already were. Walking into the center of the guild, he set down the last of his family that was left. It was her - the one he had always strived to protect and make happy. Yet, here he was, staring down at her dying body as she took small, uneven breaths, struggling to make sure not to leave him behind.
Her golden locks swayed slightly on the floor as a small breeze flowed through the room. Her chocolate orbs were filled with tears, while her body was littered with scars and blood. Her hand slowly reached upward to hold his cheek; her pale guild mark fading more and more as her breathing faded. Leaning his cheek deeper into her hand, one of his arms came and gently grabbed it, its sleeve being torn and tattered. His hair slightly brushed against her hand. Natsu looked at her in the eyes, a dull onyx meeting a fading chocolate. His pearly white fangs showed to try and lighten the mood. Lucy groaned in pain as her eyes held determination to hold on, while Natsu's held only sadness. Here she was, the girl he loved more than anything, groaning and writhing in pain to stay with him, but he knew it wouldn't work. His eyes wandered down to her chest, where a hole was. It was a surprise she had managed to hold on this long.
"You need to let go, Luce," he said barely managing to hold back his sobs as tears stained the corners of his eyes. "I'll be alright; I promise. Just please, I can't bear to see you like this anymore!" His pleas were met with deaf ears as she smiled, blood dripping from the corners of her mouth. "What am I just supposed to do? Leave you here all alone?" Lucy questioned, her eyebrows raising slightly as tears dripped down her face. Squeezing her hand harder, Natsu closed his eyes tight. "Natsu?" Lucy said, shivers running down her spine. "Yes, Luce?" he replied, looking at her with dull, onyx eyes that only held concern. "I'm so cold," she stated, shivers still running through her body. Natsu took his white, scaly scarf off carefully, wrapping it around her neck to keep her warm. Three more minutes passed before Lucy spoke again.
"I'm tired, Natsu." She stated, her eyes growing heavier by the second, but she refused to leave her partner all alone. "Then why don't you get some rest, Lucy?" He questioned, though he already suspected a reason. "Because I fear if I close my eyes, I'll never open them again." Tears ran down her face; her sobs had to be muffled by the scarf around her neck. "Don't worry, Luce," he said, gripping her hand tightly. "Just take a nap. I'll wake you up later, alright?" He reassured her. "Yeah, maybe I will." She replied in a low voice, slowly letting her eyes finally shut to rest in peace. As Lucy finally breathed her last breath, a whisper in the wind could be heard as her soft hand finally slipped from his grasp, and her pink guild mark—the one she loved so dearly—finally faded away, leaving it to be left with the rest of their family.
"Say hi to them for me, Luce," Natsu whispered every so gently as he placed his hands on top of hers. He wondered how it came to this. How had he lost all of his family in a span of only a few hours or was it days? He didn't know. But one thing he did know was that if he had to blame someone, it would be that damn book; it was what started it all.
FLASH BACK TO EARLIER.
The Book of END lay on the cold floor as Gray, Lucy, Wendy, Erza, Carla, and Happy stood in shock, staring straight ahead at a horned figure with black claws. The figure raised one of its claws to examine it, then looked up, giving the group a malicious grin that glowed with danger. Taking a step forward, they could see the scales of the figure and a scale-like scarf wrapped around its neck. "Natsu!" Lucy cried; she wanted to scream - this wasn't her friend, this wasn't the man she loved; it was a monster, hellbent on destruction. The demon glanced at them and, in the blink of an eye, charged forward, ready to kill those standing in his way. He was about to slash at Lucy, ready to deliver a fatal blow, when suddenly Erza ran forward, getting in front of her with her sword at the ready and blocking the attack.
END grunted in dismay and jumped backwards to avoid the iced spear that was sent towards him. A yell was heard from behind them. Wendy turned around to see the source of it and found the rest of her guild mates running towards them. Wendy smiled at this, knowing that they must have found out they were in trouble. "Wendy'san, watch out!" Juvia screamed, running in front of her and outstretching her arms to block the strike from hitting the young dragon slayer. Before Wendy could even understand what was happening, Juvia received a slash across her stomach. "Juvia!" Gray screamed, running towards her as she fell backward. While holding her in his arms, he turned his head around to see Lucy and Erza stalling Natsu, while Wendy took care of healing Juvia until the rest of the guild arrived.
When the rest of the guild arrived, the battle was still raging intensely, with the rest joining the fray. Slice after slice, stab after stab, and block after block were thrown over and over again, one after another. Eventually, everyone suddenly stopped and looked to see Levy hanging in the air, being choked by the demon that had once been their friend. The entire guild rushed to save her, but the heat started building up, and eventually, she was thrown to the ground; her neck burned to a crisp. Gajeel ran to her, tears streaming down his face as he searched for her heartbeat, but there was none - she was gone, and he would miss her every second of the time they were apart. Meanwhile, the other guild members stood there, too shocked to move; the only thing they could do was stand there, until Gajeel turned around to see the wide grin plastered onto END's face.
"I'll kill you!" Gajeel screamed, charging towards the demon with several of his guild members running beside him. END smiled, looking at the chaos he was creating; he would kill them all one by one and leave the ones he enjoyed most alive for entertainment until he was bored with them. He was dodging the Iron Slayer's attempts to attack him when suddenly, from behind him, he was slashed with a sword, leaving a scratch on his back. "That hurt," he grumbled, before turning around to see the red-haired woman who had slashed him. She was ready for a fight, and he knew that, so why not give her what she wanted? Throwing Gajeel away with a flick of his arm, he charged at the red-haired Requip Mage. "Ataraxia Armor!" Erza screamed, her magic surrounding her as she Requipped into an armor with winged swords and a battle dress that had her chest open. Her long red hair was up in a Japanese bun on top of her head, while the rest went down her back, in waves.
The fight continued for hours as guild members charged in and lost their lives one after another until only Lucy was left barely standing face to face with the demon. The demon, END, smiled at her, clapping his hands in amusement. "Congratulations, human; you're the only one left surviving out of your puny group of fairies." Lucy shook in anger, staring at the demon, who was still smiling, daring him to keep pissing her off. "That's not true," Lucy said, her angry frown turning into a sad smile on her face. She kept eye contact with END, seemingly staring into his soul, looking for something. END kept his amused smirk while raising an eyebrow at her. "And who here is alive with you?" He chuckled, looking around, only to find no one else there, just like he predicted. Lucy put her hands on her knees, trying to stand up, with a frown on her face. "You are...," she started, but trailed off, unable to finish her sentence. She pointed at his shoulder. Looking, he saw a red fairy-tail insignia in all its glory, shining brightly at him.
"How the hell?" END screamed, certain he had handled that brat by trapping him in the same place he himself had been trapped in for the last 400 years. So how in the world did that stupid mark come back?! END fell to his knees, clutching his head; it hurt like hell, the brat was trying to fight back for control over himself. Just as END was about to win the power struggle, Lucy ran towards him, embracing him with all her might. The demon clawed and scratched, trying to push her away, but she wouldn't let go. "I love you, Natsu," she whispered in his ear. Feeling himself lose to his other half, END made one final move, knowing he wasn't going to be let out again. He pulled his arm back and rammed it full force into her chest, feeling it come out the other side. A shit-eating grin was on his face, as he lost all his demonic features; he now looked human again, with no claws or red eyes. His grin morphed into a look of shock and regret as Natsu finally took control again. Removing his hand from her chest, he hugged her, feeling her body go numb, little by little.
"I'm so sorry, Luce." He sobbed, unable to stop the tears from flowing. Lucy, however, had a happy smile on her face that shone brighter than the stars; the sun itself would have been envious. "Take me home, Natsu," she whispered, placing her arms around his neck as he stood up to leave. He didn't dare look down, for fear of seeing his fellow guild members torn and burned beyond recognition. He couldn't bear to see it, knowing he was the one responsible. The town was a mess; buildings were crumbling, and some were even burned to the ground. Bodies littered the streets, creating a graveyard-like atmosphere everywhere he looked. Finally, he stopped in front of their home - the place where all of those happy memories had been made, the place where he and his family drank, fought, earned jewels...the place where they lived like there was no tomorrow. If only he had known back then that there truly was no tomorrow, perhaps he would have spent more time with them.
END OF FLASH BACK.
The memory hurt just to remember, but he knew he wouldn't forget it no matter how hard he tried. So he put it aside for later; right now, he needed to honor the people who had died with their families. Giving Lucy one final kiss on the cheek, he got up and left the guild hall. Walking over to the burial site, he dug a hole and placed each person inside, making sure they were buried properly. Once he finished, he stood up and wiped away the tears that fell down his cheeks. He had honored the people in the city, and now it was time to move forward to the next step. He had to say goodbye to his family.
Once he finally returned to the battlefield, he felt himself becoming ill. The smell of death lingered everywhere he walked, and blood from his friends lay everywhere. Picking up as many as he could at a time, he carried them to the guild hall. He couldn't just leave them there; he had to take them home so they could be at peace in the afterlife. Soon, after several trips back and forth, he finally had them all in the guild, lying on their backs with their hands on their stomachs. Natsu tilted his head a little, allowing a small smile to make its way onto his face. It saddened him; he wished he had listened more. He wished he hadn't been as reckless as he was.
He wished he had appreciated the time he spent with them more—how he always fought with Gray and Gajeel, how Wendy would heal him when he got injured, how Makarov and the older members would give him advice, how the Strauss siblings were always there for him, how Cana would offer him a drink whenever he wanted, how Erza would love him like a brother and teach him things when he was a child, how Carla would make snarky remarks, how Panther Lily would talk to him sometimes when he wasn't with Gajeel, how Happy would tease him, and how all the other members considered him family. But most of all, he missed Lucy. He missed all of it—no matter what stupid things they all did; he loved it all. He just couldn't help but feel like he hadn't done enough. Tears rolled down the Dragon Slayer's face as he looked at them. He wanted to hold them in his arms and hug them, but he knew he couldn't. They were gone, and they weren't coming back no matter how much he wanted them to.
Natsu cried for hours until he heard a sound coming from behind him; turning his head to face it, he saw something he hadn't imagined seeing – he saw-.
Lucy opened her eyes to find herself in a golden wheat field; her hair flowed in the wind, while her keys made little noises as they blew past her. Looking down at herself, Lucy saw that barely anything had changed; she still had her blue sleeveless shirt with buttons, a white skirt, and a brown belt. Her hair was still in a sideways ponytail with a bow. The only thing that had changed was that she no longer had a hole in her chest. Lucy knew where she was; there were no questions that needed to be asked. She had closed her eyes and, just like she feared, she wouldn't be opening them again. Tears fell from her eyes; she hated that she couldn't stay with him—if only for a little longer. "Lucy, you're here!" Looking up, Lucy saw who was calling her; it was her family. They were running toward her with their arms wide open. As Lucy stood up, she was tackled into a hug by the rest of her teammates. Their eyes watered as they saw her.
Everyone was telling her all of the cool things that were in the afterlife - the dragons that raised the dragon slayers were even there; it was all so peaceful. Her parents, her friends, everybody she loved was here. Except for one person...Lucy paused in place and put her finger to her chin, seemingly deep in thought. "Oh yeah," she said, looking up at them. "I almost forgot."
"Natsu says hello."
Welp that's the end and yes I know this wasn't supposed to be on here yet but I just wanted to get it started for later. Hope you enjoyed.
