"Alright everyone family meeting."Carlisle announced after he finished his call with Tanya. He was very excited to learn of the potentially gifted vampire and needed to organize his family to leave soon. Making his way into the living room he waited until all the members of his family took spots on pieces of furniture. Alice seemed to be in a good mood he noted which meant the fight she had with Emmett was finally resolved. He had planned to speak to Emmett about the incident but hadn't gotten the chance yet. That would have to wait until a later time however because now he had more important things to focus on.
"What's going on?"Alice asked.
"I just got off the phone with Tanya."Carlisle told them.
Rosalie was instantly on alert. She wasn't sure what Tanya had said to Carlisle but was positive that it had to do with the messages she sent the coven leader. It didn't seem Tanya had told Carlisle about Rosalie telling her about the broken laws because Carlisle wouldn't be as happy as he seemed to be. Rosalie didn't know what was going to happen but knew she would have to be extra careful around the family as to not give anything away.
"We haven't heard from the Denali in a while. What are they up to?"Esme asked.
"It's seems they are having trouble with a group of nomads."Carlisle told them.
"Why would some nomads cause them trouble?"Jasper would have figured with the age of the coven members they could easily take care of a couple nomads. Kate's skill alone would be more than enough.
"Well they aren't sure but they think at least one of them is gifted and is able to shield their location."Carlisle explained.
Alice focused on the Denali trying to see if her gift could tell her anything. Getting nothing she growled."I can't see them."
"What do you mean?"Jasper asked.
"I mean that they are a blank spot. It's like they don't even exist. If Carlisle hadn't just talked to Tanya I would think all of them were dead."Alice didn't like the idea of someone being able to block her gift.
"Then it's true they are a shield."Carlisle was even more excited now that he knew the vampire could block Alice's gift as well.
"Whatever they are I don't like it."Alice said.
"Did Tanya ask for our help?"Esme was very interested in finding the vampire with such a powerful gift. It could be very useful to have them in their coven.
Carlisle nodded."Yes, she asked that all of us come to their home to join them. It was her hope that Edward and Alice would be able to help find the vampire and eliminate them."
"We can't let that happen."Jasper knew a vampire like that was to valuable to kill.
"I know which is why we are going to go to Alaska and find the vampire but instead of killing them we are going to convince them to join our family. If they decide not to join us then we will kill them because it wouldn't be wise to let a vampire that can block Alice's gift live."Carlisle had no doubt that any vampire would want join the family. He and his children were more powerful, respectable and morally superior than all other vampires.
"They will probably need to be educated in the proper way of feeding."Esme wouldn't allow any member of her coven to drink from humans.
"That would be no problem."Carlisle said.
"I agree. Any vampire would change their feeding habits for the honor of joining us."Alice knew that taking on the animal diet would be an easy feet for any vampire worthy of being made a Cullen.
"How do we know this vampire isn't working for the Volturi?"Becky asked.
"The Volturi would never let someone with a gift like that leave the castle."Rosalie quickly spoke. She hoped that the others would go along with her thinking because she had a feeling that the gifted vampire really was a part of the Volturi and Tanya was leading them into a trap.
"Aro likes to brag about his gifted members. If he had a guard with such a gift everyone would know."Carlisle knew without doubt that Aro would have shouted it from the rooftops if such a vampire was part of his guard.
"If they aren't a part the Volturi that will make it easier for us to convince them to join our coven."Jasper mused.
"Them not being with the Volturi shows us that they have no loyalty to the rulers and would jump at the chance to join us."Alice agreed.
"We are the most powerful coven after the Volturi."Carlisle had been working on his goal to take the number one spot but it had been slow going trying find gifted vampires worthy of joining his coven.
"For now."Esme added.
Carlisle smiled."For now."
"So what's the plan?"Jasper asked.
"Well first I need to get ahold of Edward.I want him to meet up with us and then we will all go to Alaska. Once we get there we will get all the information we can from the Denali then we will hunt down the nomads."Carlisle told them.
"Are the Denali going to go along with us trying to recruit the vampire?"Alice didn't want to have to fight but would if she had to.
"We aren't going to tell them. All they need to know is that we are there to help. When it comes time to actually go after the vampire we will suggest shifts with our family taking the first one. That way the Denali will have no way of interfering with our plan or using the opportunity to try and convince the vampire to join them and not us."Carlisle explained.
"No one would pick the Denali over us."Jasper scoffed at the very idea.
"No matter how slim the chance is we shouldn't risk it."Carlisle felt the same way as Jasper but he didn't want to take any chances. The vampire was to powerful to lose.
"I think it's a good plan."Esme said.
"I just hate that we have to play nice with the Denali."Alice grumbled.
"We need to keep them close so that Eleazar can give us information on the gifted vampires he comes across."Carlisle reminded them.
"I know it's just they are so boring. Living in the wilderness with not a single person other than their coven mates to interact with."Alice complained.
"If Kate asks me to play video games with her again I may choke her to death with her own fear."Jasper wasn't above using his gift to torture and would love the opportunity to use it on the blond warrior.
"This is just one of the sacrifices we have to make to keep our coven safe from those who wish to harm us."Carlisle didn't like dealing with the Denali either but knew they needed to keep Eleazar close so he could not only tell them about the new Volturi gifted guard members but any other gifted vampires he came across.
"I guess this isn't a huge ask.I mean Edward has it worse than all of us."Alice said.
"True he has given up not one but two mates to keep them safe from our enemies."Esme couldn't imagine the pain Edward was going through.
"You ok?"Emmett whispered low enough for only Rosalie to hear. He received stiff nod in reply. Deciding to check in later he would leave it alone for now.
"The selflessness my son continues to show."Carlisle cleared his throat of emotion."Well let's just say I have more respect for him with every act he commits to make our family stronger."
"How soon are we leaving?"Esme asked.
"I'm going to contact Edward right now. Depending on where he is we will either wait for him here or meet up with him on the way."Carlisle said.
"Can we not just have him meet us there?"Alice figured it would be quicker if they left right away.
Carlisle shook his head."I want us to arrive as a united front. That way if the vampire we are after is watching the area they will know right away that we are family unit."
"Smart, showing our strength without having to use force. That would also make the vampire think twice about trying to fight us. It would give us a starting point to our talks with them."Jasper knew that they wouldn't want to fight their family because of their strength and numbers.
"Exactly, now go pack.I want everyone matching in a way that shows that we are one unit but nothing militant. I want to give off family vibes not hostile ones."Carlisle told them.
"I'll take care of the outfits."Alice raced off up the stairs.
"I'll go call Edward."Carlisle gave Esme a kiss on cheek and left the room.
"Jasper can you come with me to fill up the gas tanks in the two cars we are taking?"Esme asked.
"Sure."Jasper got up and followed Esme out of the house.
Making sure no one was paying attention to them Emmett whispered so that only Rosalie could hear."What is really going on?"
"I don't know and even if I did we shouldn't be talking about it."Rosalie whispered back.
"What are you two talking about?"Becky asked in a whisper. She couldn't hear what Emmett and Rosalie were saying but knew they were talking.
"It's not safe to tell you."Emmett said.
"Got it."Becky would prefer to know but understood with Alice and Edward around that it was better to keep things as need to know as to not let everyone find out what was being hidden.
"Do you feel like this is some kind of trap?"Emmett asked Rosalie.
Rosalie nodded."It's definitely a trap."
"What the hell are we supposed to do when it's sprung?"Emmett hated being unprepared especially when he knew that the Volturi were involved.
"I don't know. When I sent Tanya the messages her only reply was let me handle it. How she handled it I have no clue but the timing of them asking for help is to close to me sending her the information to be a coincidence."Rosalie firmly believed that Tanya told the Volturi about what Rosalie told her and that this was the result of Tanya passing on that information.
Emmett ran his hand through his hair in frustration."What the fuck."
"I wish we could contact her but it wouldn't be smart with Edward now joining us."Rosalie had to stop herself numerous times from reaching out to Tanya to find out what was going on. It was only the fact that she knew Tanya was on her side that stopped her.
"How are we going to deal with him?"Emmett asked.
Rosalie shrugged."I honestly don't think he will even waste his time paying attention to us. He will definitely be riding with Carlisle so they can make a detailed plan."
"Alice and Jasper will probably ride with them as well leaving us with Esme babysitting."Carlisle never let Rosalie, Emmett and Becky travel without being accompanied by him or one of the other four members of the coven. Emmett suspected that was because they were afraid they would run off but the three of them hadn't had the opportunity to see if they could actually get away.
"And you know the easiest way to distract Esme is to talk about how wonderful Edward and Alice are."Rosalie said.
"So I guess the only thing we can really do is wait and see and hope that Edward doesn't pay attention to us."Emmett hated that they couldn't do more but they were limited in how much they could do without getting into trouble.
"If he tries to talk to you just bring up how lucky we are that he is so dedicated to keeping our coven safe."Rosalie knew if they flattered Edward he would be to busy singing his own praises to actually pay attention to what they were thinking.
"Good idea."Emmett was positive that would distract Edward from any thoughts he heard."Now we wait."
"Now we wait."Rosalie wasn't sure if she was more nervous or excited about what was waiting for them in Alaska. Not knowing who Tanya talked to and what she told them was making it hard for Rosalie to predict what was going to happen. One thing for sure was that Tanya was sending them into a trap. It was what happened when they were caught that concerned Rosalie wouldn't be sad if she was executed as it would be a mercy to finally be free of the constant pain of the loss of her mate, but she didn't want Emmett and Becky to die. They deserved a chance to live without being controlled by Carlisle and the sire bond. Rosalie took a look at the pair and made a silent promise that no matter what happened she would fight for her brother and sister. It would be the perfect way to repay them for all the support they gave her over the years.
