Part Ten
Xander woke several hours later. He groaned when he sat up, his neck had a kink in it. It took a minute to remember why he was on the floor and asleep. "Spike!" He rolled over onto his knees to see Spike still sleeping. It felt like his heart was in his throat. "He's still here. He's still here," Xander chanted to himself.
"You're not getting rid of me that easily," Spike said sleepily.
It wasn't until now that the tears flowed down Xander's cheeks. "Good, I like having you around."
Spike wiped tears off of Xander's cheek. "Even though I'm nothing now?"
"You are never going to be nothing, Spike. Not to me. You are brave and strong. You never give up no matter what's thrown at you. Those monsters took your fangs but that doesn't change who you are."
Looking in Xander's eyes Spike could tell that Xander was being sincere with his words. "How am I supposed to face the others? I can already hear with snide comments from Buffy and Riley."
"If they say anything that isn't supportive they will have to deal with me." Xander's face darkened ready to fight the world to protect Spike.
Xander's tears were long gone but Spike continued to stroke his cheek. Spike didn't deserve Xander's loyalty. Spike couldn't stop himself he pulled Xander down for a kiss.
As soon as Xander's lips touched Spike's everything around them faded away. Nothing else mattered except the feel of each others lips. It was almost as if a sense of peace surrounded both of them. One of Xander's hands gripped the back of the couch and other the arm above Spike's head because he didn't want to put any weight on Spike.
Spike's hand found its way to Xander's neck. For weeks he had dreamed of this and those dreams didn't do the real thing justice.
Xander pulled away only when oxygen started becoming a serious issue. He opened his eyes and saw yellow eyes staring back at him. "That was... unexpected."
"Does that mean you hated it?" Spike removed his hand from Xander and placed it on his stomach. He was feeling self-conscious because there was no way Xander couldn't feel the lack of teeth. It had to be a turn off.
You didn't need to be a rocket scientist to know that Spike was embarrassed. It was obvious in the kiss that Spike's canines were gone. It was a little weird but did that make Xander not want to kiss him again? Hell no. Deciding actions would be louder than words Xander swooped in for another kiss.
Spike's eyes widened. He hadn't expected that. He was so shocked that he didn't kiss back.
"I like you, Spike," Xander said when he pulled away. "Dave was right. A friend wouldn't make me feel the way I do when I'm with you or even thinking of you."
"Really?" Spike hated that he sounded so insecure.
Xander nodded. "I totally get it if you don't want anything to happen right now. You've been through something really traumatic but I want you to know that I can wait."
Spike couldn't hold back and just started to sob. "It hurt so bad."
"I know." Xander pulled Spike into an awkward hug. "Let it out. You're safe."
"I wanted to die but I thought about you and knew I couldn't. I couldn't give up." Spike's hands grabbed Xander's shirt crumpling it. "You are the only good fucking thing in my life." He buried his face into Xander's neck.
Tears rolled down Xander's neck as Spike cried. "I'm not going anywhere." Xander ran his hand comfortingly up and down Spike's back. His skin was cool to the touch.
"I'm scared." A shudder ran through Spike's frame. He hated admitting to anyone that he was scared. "Those two humans are still out there."
"I'm not going to tell you, you don't have to be." Xander knew being told not to feel something didn't help. It just made you not want to tell people how you feel.
They sat there for almost half an hour just holding each other. Finally Spike pulled away and wiped his face. "Sorry."
Xander lightly grasped Spike's chin with his thumb and fore finger. "You never have to apologize to me. Not for something that isn't your fault." He pressed his forehead against Spike's. "Do you want to stay with me for awhile?"
"Your landlord..." As much as he wanted to stay with Xander he didn't want to cause trouble between Xander and the landlord.
"I'll talk to Jerry. I'll explained that I have a friend going through a rough patch and needs a place to stay," Xander said. "We'll figure it out." He stood up. "I'm gonna get you another thing of blood and then I think we should try to get some more sleep."
Blood and sleep sounded really good. As much as Spike wanted to go to the spare room he was too tired to move.
Xander didn't wait for Spike to answer because he already knew. He was gone and back in minutes. He fussed over Spike before handing him the mug. He's worry about the mugs in the morning.
Spike was able to hold the mug himself and down the blood in one go. "Thanks, pet."
"It's nothing," Xander replied as he pulled the blanket up to Spike's chin. He then kissed Spike's forehead again.
When Xander was in his room, the door still open just in case, Spike turned on his side facing the couch. What was he doing? He just lost his identity and here he is telling Xander that he likes him. The plot twist of the story was that Xander felt the same. This was the worst timing in history.
He didn't turn back around when he heard Xander return. The coffee table was moved and Spike realized that Xander was going to sleep on the floor to be near him. It made him feel safe.
