My take on Zutara - I tried to remain as close to canon as possible, since there are so many things I love the way they are. The first chapter mirrors the story, but after that it veers into my own work. Rated M to be safe. Begins after The Western Air Temple episode in Season 3.

A small Zutara poem I wrote whilst I deal with my writer's block for my 'Shattered, Healed' story. Enjoy!

Maybe she wanted to argue more. Maybe she wanted to give him a piece of her mind. Maybe she felt a lot more sorry for him than she had admitted to herself. Maybe she wanted to talk to the one person in this stupid beach house who seemed to be as afraid as she was, and who actually emoted in any semblance of a normal fashion. It was probably the tiredness, in all honesty.

Instead of the Blue Spirit getting knocked out, Aang saves him from the arrow and they make off into the woods. (Season 1, Episode 13 AU.)

Zuko is too late. [zutara angst challenge]

"Oh, Mai." Azula took a step towards her, reaching out with her index finger to trace a solitary tear as it fell down Mai's face, following its path with a sharp, scarlet nail. "What could I possibly have to gain from lying to you? Here? Now?" (Zuko has been banished. Mai finds out. tw: mentions of blood and an emotional breakdown.)

"That looks dangerous." "I eat danger for breakfast," he snits, tone dry as a desert and the effect just as unpleasant. She raises an unimpressed brow. "You've been spending too much time with Toph." He smirks. "That one's on your brother, actually." "Figures," she mutters with a roll of her eyes. zuko and katara share a quiet moment before the arrival of sozin's comet.

"Hey, I was wondering… Does it not bother you that Aang is still shorter than you, Katara?" (Of course she doesn't mind. Aang is the perfect height for her to... to rest her chin on his head. Yeah, that's it. No other reason.)

There is no war in Ba Sing Se. Katara and Zuko build a life together in the Lower Ring after they lose everything . . . and then their son tears it all down again. Zutara, steambaby-centric, complete.

Starting from The Southern Raiders episode, Zuko and Katara have three different nights where they learn more about their relationship and feelings toward each other.

Even nightmares go wrong sometimes.

"Look up, Sifu," was Aang's gentle, amused response, and Zuko was so grateful the words hadn't been followed by 'hotman' that he followed his boyfriend's instructions without question, lifting his gaze upwards to see - "Wow."

Piandao might be a prick but at least they can read his handwriting.
