Sing, Muse, of the days when life and death held no dominion, when the land, draped in unending gray, was under the reign of immortal dragons. Whether the primordial serpents coiled in that ancient epoch remains a mystery veiled in the mists of time.
Then, from the fiery depths arose a division, birthing strange beings not of draconic lineage. Giants, kin to the Archtrees, and smaller races emerged from the shadows. Three among them discovered the Souls of Lords within the flames, gaining colossal power to challenge the dragons and reshape the order of the world.
The Gravelord Nito, first among the deceased, claimed one Soul. The Witch of Izalith and her daughters of Chaos seized another. The last, coveted by Gwyn, the Lord of Sunlight, and his loyal knights, left behind a peculiar essence known as the Dark Soul, cradled by the easily forgotten Furtive Pygmy.
Nito, the Witch, and Gwyn ascended as Lords, armed with the flame's might, waging war upon the dragons. Gwyn, invoking the power of the sun, birthed miracles to strip the dragons of their immortal scales. The Witch, in her mastery, forged the first pyromancies from sorcery, setting ablaze the Archtrees, ancestral abodes of the Archdragons. With the assistance of Seath the Scaleless, a dragon who betrayed his kin, the Lords hunted the dragons to near-extinction.
Seath, bereft of scales and harboring a fear of mortality, allied with Gwyn. A luminary scholar, he delved into research, begetting the first Sorceries.
With dragons vanquished, the Lords founded their realms. Nito delved into the Catacombs, rewarding his servants and creating the Finito and Milfanito. He offered his Fire to the enigmatic force of Death, spreading it far and wide. The Witch and her daughters returned to Izalith, delving into Flame Sorceries, birthing Pyromancy from the very essence of the Soul. Gwyn, atop the golden mountain city, Anor Londo, declared himself and his kin as Gods. To Seath, Gwyn bestowed the title of Duke, granting him the Archives for immortal secrets.
Of the Pygmy, forebearer of humanity, little is known. His descendants, through countless generations, spawned human kingdoms, delving into sorceries, miracles, and pyromancies. The humans, it is speculated, wielded magic through the fragments of the Dark Soul scattered within.
The early days of the Age of Fire shrouded in mystery unfolded, a tale continued in the annals of Dark Souls III. As the gods proved mightier, humanity, perceiving them as true deities, began to worship, forming religions. Lloyd, Gwyn's uncle, declared himself All-Father, founding a religion venerating the gods of Anor Londo. Gods, in turn, regarded humans as their subjects.
