Disclaimer; I don't own Mary Poppins Returns
It was a perfect night. The children were sleeping soundly when Mary Poppins came in.
"Anabel, John, Georgie, Michael, get up. We are going on a trip."
"Mary Poppins," Michael grumbled, "Are you aware of what time it is?"
"Yes. It is 1 AM," Mary Poppins replied.
"Don't you think now would be a good time to sleep?" Michael asked.
Mary Poppins looked at him with slight exasperation.
"You know I wouldn't do this if it weren't important," Mary Poppins pointed out.
Anabel, John, and Georgie hurried out to the family room.
"Where are we going Mary Poppins," Anabel asked.
"We are going to the place where the lost things go," Mary Poppins said, "Each of you may choose one lost existence to have returned to you."
Georgie's eyes widened.
"You mean we can pick anything we want?"
"Yes. You must be careful what you pick. You see, there, is one thing you want most of all. All of you have something you want most of all. It would be best if you chose that. Other things will tempt you, but you must choose what you want most."
"I know what I want most of all," Anabel said, "And it isn't something"
"Darling," Michael began, but Mary Poppins nodded.
"Whisper it to me," she said.
Anabel whispered in Mary Poppins ear.
"You shall go first," Mary Poppins said.
She snapped her fingers and suddenly Anabel and Mary Poppins were at the place where the lost things go. In seconds the others joined them.
"Since Anabel is the oldest," Mary Poppins announced, "She will lead."
"She's only older by nine months," John pointed out.
"Yes, but she is quite a bit older in maturity. She knows what you all want and will be able to resist the temptation to get other things instead."
"We don't want anything. We want-"
"I know," Mary Poppins replied, "Now is the bewitching hour."
"What exactly is that," Michael asked.
"It is a time when you get what you are hoping for most in your heart. But you must play your-"
"Oh look," Michael said, "It's my old telescope. I haven't seen that in years."
"Daddy," Anabel said, "We have to keep walking. We all have to be on the same page about what we want."
Or who," she thought to herself.
"Daddy," Georgie asked, "Where did you get that telescope?"
Michael smiled at Mary Poppins.
"A good friend of mine gave it to me," he said smiling with fond thoughts.
"Who?"
"I did," Mary Poppins replied, "When he was about your age."
"How old are you Mary Poppins?" John asked.
"Never ask a woman her age," Mary Poppins replied, "I'm old enough to know when the door is opened."
"What door," all three of the kids asked together.
"It is the time when it's getting ready to open-"
"Hello son," George said, "Anabel, John and you must be little Georgie."
"I am," Georgie said, "But who are you?"
"This is Grandfather," Anabel said.
Michael ran and hugged his father. George returned the hug and scooped his Grandchildren into his arms.
"Mary Poppins," Michael asked, "Is this what-"
"No," George said softly, "There's something much better in store for you than me."
"There is?" Georgie asked.
"He's quite right you know," Mary Poppins said.
"Mary Poppins," Anabel asked, "Is it turn that you're special?"
"Well of course I am," Mary Poppins replied, "Everyone is special,"
Anabel whispered a question in Mary Poppins ear.
"That was quite a long time ago," Mary Poppins replied, "And that is not the topic of today's trip. We will discuss that another time Anabel."
"But I wanna know about it. How long did-"
"You will know about it but not right now. You will know all about it when the next door closes"
"What door," Georgie asked.
"As I said long ago, "My we are full of questions today aren't we," Mary Poppins chuckled.
"Yes we are," Anabel said laughing, "We're kids. We can't help it."
"Yes. Well, you will know when it is time for you to know. I've said my say and that's all I'll say about that."
Michael nodded his understanding.
Suddenly the children's attention was taken off their thoughts. It was even taken off Mary Poppins.
"I CHOOSE HER," Anabel, John, and Georgie screamed simultaneously.
"What are they-"
"Look Michael," Mary Poppins said.
Michael looked to where Mary Poppins was indicating and saw Kate.
