CHAPTER 46
Robert received some mail and rushed to Elizabeth's house to meet her, but when he got there, he noticed that no one was home. Perhaps she had gone to the hotel to look after her father, who was injured.
So he set off at a run and when he reached the square, he saw her talking to Bill and Henry... Without a second thought, Robert ran out and shouted:
- Teacher.
- Professor...
- Mrs. Grant!
From a distance, Bill, Henry and Elizabeth saw Robert running and shouting; he was waving a piece of paper while shouting and running. Everyone saw that he was anxious, and it was at this pace that he reached them and taking Elizabeth in his arms, lifted her off the ground and twirled her teacher around while she laughed and he cried.
Nathan was coming in from his morning rounds, and on his horse everything is going... Shaking his head he thought, "I think I have to explain to this boy, that she is my wife. Only mine and I don't intend to share her with any apprentice man."
But what would be the point of him saying that, if after all his wife was the laughing stock of the moment.
Robert put her down and very excitedly handed over the paper...
- Oh... my God! Elizabeth shouted. And everyone passing by saw her screaming and jumping around Robert, hugging the boy in the greatest euphoria.
She didn't care about anyone but Robert. Nathan reined in his horse and came closer and asked:
- Bill, what's going on here?
- I don't know, Nathan, these two are in a world of their own.
She looked at the men and said:
- Meet Canada's newest mountie... Robert Willian...
Nathan, Bill and Henry hugged him to congratulate him. They were all proud to know that Robert was fulfilling his dream.
Just then another young man appeared shouting for Elizabeth and whirling in the air...
- Nathan! I think your wife is more theirs than yours. Henry laughed out loud.
- I think so too, Henry.
Cody was joy itself. The young orphan boy that Abigail had adopted years ago had a huge smile. Turning to Bill, he said:
- Do you remember that one day, I asked you if you would marry my mother Abigail?
- Yes, son. And I told you that marriage was a serious matter, and that your mother wasn't ready yet, because she had you and needed to see you grow up and become a man with a career, before taking care of herself.
- I know Bill. But now I'm a man, with a degree and a job.
- With a profession? I don't understand, Cody...
Elizabeth entered the conversation and said proudly:
- Dad... I mean Judge Bill Avery, Mounties Nathan and Henry, let me introduce you to our new Mountie Cody Stanton.
Robert and Cody greeted each other; they were going to serve together in the same battalion. Those boys made everyone there very proud.
- So, Mr. Bill, when are you going to marry my mother?
Nathan held back his laughter, covering his mouth with his hand, while Henry, very indiscreet, laughed a loose laugh.
Bill looked at Elizabeth and then at Cody and said:
- You'll soon be my son, and you'll have a father and a new sister.
For Cody, the day became the best day of his life. His teacher would be his sister, mountie Nathan would be his brother-in-law, little Jack would be his nephew and Bill would be his real father. He had longed for this for years and blamed himself for his mother not marrying him, but now he was going to get twice as much, as Elizabeth's family would become his family.
It had been over a year since his mother had been in the countryside looking after her mother, who was very ill, and all that time he had lived there with Clara and Jessy, with Bill always close by. Beck had moved to England, with a maternal aunt, and he was left alone, well, he was left with his Hope Valle family. But he was happy and fulfilled, and thanks to his teacher Elizabeth, his good grades helped him win the mountie place.
Clara held a reception that evening and everyone went to celebrate Cody and Robert's victory. Nathan and Bill helped Willian Thatcher to get around and they took him to the café, where the party was very merry.
Laura showed up to celebrate with her father, and she also brought her letter to deliver to the education committee, where Lee was chairman, as she had been notified that she would be Elizabeth's new teacher.
It was a very happy evening for everyone, and Elizabeth was the pride of the family.
Nathan saw his wife celebrating with their boys, she was more than happy with all of them. Her smile was the biggest he had ever seen.
Willian Thatcher took the opportunity to tell Bill and Nathan that he had called his daughter Julia and her husband Charles Kensigton III to help Elizabeth, as well as asking the lawyers to annul the documents that took away their rights to the family and the estate.
Nathan didn't say anything, but he knew that this act had hurt her very much. She had never commented on it, but she must have been sorry to see her family abandon her.
Willian said that the lawyers were already aware of everything they had to do and asked Bill to make sure that everything went perfectly smoothly, as they had to be prepared to defend Elizabeth, because according to the information they had received from Carlos, their friend and lawyer, Grace and Viola were not going to let this go to waste and were going to use very heavy weapons to take Elizabeth down.
Bill didn't want to and wouldn't let anything bother Elizabeth, not even his mother and older sister.
It was at that moment that the café doors opened...
