Re-bonding with a dragon

Blake was walking back to the forge, he was angry for everything that happened at the academy and he also got another headache

"I should've seen that wouldn't work" Blake muttered "Me, bonding with one of those beasts, yeah right"

He continued to walk until he arrived at the forge. Somehow, he knew the way back and didn't get lost. However, Blake didn't think much about it, he was too tired, angry and hurt to think about it

"At least I can be in peace here" Blake said as he entered his room and closed the door

He sat at the edge of his bed and massaged his head trying to numb the pain but it didn't work

He couldn't stop thinking in all the other teens and their dragons, they felt familiar for him, especially Thunder and the more he thought about it, the more his head hurt

Suddenly, Blake heard how someone was entering his room, it was Hiccup

"What do you want? I told you I wanted to be left alone" Blake said

"Listen, I know what happened at the academy ended pretty bad" Hiccup said

"You think? Not even the first time my father let me face a dragon ended that bad" Blake said as he got up

"I'm not going to bother you much, I just want you to come to the forest with me" Hiccup said

"For what? to know more of your dragons so they can kill me?" Blake asked

"No, you should know the island if you're going to live here" Hiccup said

Blake didn't want to go, he wasn't in the mood to deal with anything but something inside him told him that he should go

"Okay, I'll go but no more dragon riding" Blake said

Minutes later, Hiccup and Blake were walking around the forest, but Hiccup was taking Blake to the cave where Thunder was

"Huh, this forest is pretty big. I'm surprised you know where we are" Blake said as he looked around

"When you spend most of your time in here, it's easy to know where you are" Hiccup said

"I guess you're right, back at Outcast Island I used anything as a reference point to avoid getting lost" Blake said

Suddenly, a roar was heard, it sounded really far but Blake was able to listen

"Did you hear that?" Blake asked

"Hear what? I didn't hear anything" Hiccup lied, just before another roar was heard

"There it is again" Blake said "Too bad I didn't bring that spear"

"You don't need it, there's no one here but us" Hiccup lied once again

Then, the roar was heard a third time

"I think I can track it down" Blake said

Blake walked through the forest using the roars to guide himself, Hiccup was following him, just to make sure Blake didn't go the wrong way

It only took them a few minutes to arrive at the cave

"The roars come from there" Blake said "What dragon could be doing them?"

"I don't know, I never heard something like that" Hiccup lied

Blake carefully entered the cave and found Thunder inside

"It's you, the Skrill" Blake said

Thunder growled at Blake as he expanded his wing but he also pretended to feel pain when he did it

"Are you hurt?" Blake asked as he walked towards Thunder who kept growling "Why does this feel… familiar?"

Suddenly, Blake fell to his knees, closed his eyes and placed his hand on his head when a headache appeared, but this one was pretty bad, just trying to think made it worse

Thunder wanted to help Blake but he stayed on his place, he knew he shouldn't interfere

But… it was worth it because Blake began to remember. In fact, he got a flashback

In his flashback, Hiccup and Blake were outside of the cave, looking at Thunder who was inside

"It's a Skrill and its wing is damaged" Hiccup said

"I'll try to help him" Blake said but he was stopped by Hiccup

"Two things, first: Are you sure is a good idea and second: How you know that this dragon is a male?" Hiccup asked

"Frist: Yeah, I think is a good idea and second I have the feeling that it is a male and not a female" Blake said

"Okay, just be careful" Hiccup said

Blake approached Thunder and he finally notice their presence, Thunder growled at Blake and stretched his wings to look more intimidating but he roared in pain again

"Hey, it's ok I'm here to help" Blake said, Thunder didn't believe him and continue growling at him

"Here, eat this it'll make you feel better" Blake said giving Thunder some mutton

He smelled the mutton before eating it, then Blake tried to approach again and Thunder looked at him with curiosity, so Blake closed his eyes and stretch his hand and... He felt something on his hand so he opened the eyes and saw Thunder's snout on his hand

"See? I'm not going to hurt you I just want to help you with your wing" Blake said after that the Thunder seem to trust Blake so he let him walk to its damaged wing

Luckily the wing wasn't broken but it was dislocated

"I'll have to put your wing to its original position this might hurt a little" Blake warned Thunder who nodded meaning he was ready, so Blake quickly stretched the wing making it fit

Thunder roared in pain again but he sudden realize that his wing didn't hurt anymore. However, he needed to get used to fly again before leaving

"There it's done" Blake said, then he left the cave to reunite with Hiccup who saw everything

"Blake I'm impressed that you were able to take care of that dragon" Hiccup said

"Thanks, but we can't leave him here, this cave isn't well hidden as the cove" Blake said

"So, what do we do?" Hiccup asked "I say we take him to the cove with the night fury" Blake suggested

"Are you sure it's a good idea?" Hiccup asked "I think that when he and the Night Fury meet, they'll try to kill each other"

"Well, it's that or risking his live leaving him here" Blake remarked

"Ok let's do this" Hiccup said, Blake walked back where Thunder was "We are going to take you to a hidden place you can stay there until you recover" Blake said

Thunder only nodded and start to follow them

At the cove when Hiccup and Blake took Thunder there they start searching for Toothless when they found him Hiccup begin to talk "Hey we brought a new friend here I hope you don't mind" Hiccup said

Toothless looked confused at Hiccup but then he saw Thunder both of their eyes widen

The dragons looked at each other for a minute before roaring happy to the other this took by surprise Hiccup and Blake

"Do you think they've met before?" Blake asked

"Maybe, there's also the possibility that they have been friends even if it's rumored that Night Furies and Skrills are rivals" Hiccup said

"Well, it was un expected" Blake said

"You know, I think we should name them" Hiccup suggested

"Name them?" Blake said scratching his chin "I like the idea, you found the Night Fury so you get to name it"

"How about...Toothless" Hiccup said

"I like it, I think I'll name the Skrill... Thunder" Blake said

"You got the idea from the roars he was making right?" Hiccup asked

"Yes" Blake said

When the flashback ended, Blake opened his eyes and looked at Thunder who was worried

"Thunder" Blake said, making the dragon gasp when he heard his name, even Hiccup who was seeing everything gasped "Your name… is Thunder, right?"

"I… I named you like that, didn't I?" Blake asked as he got up and slowly walked towards Thunder "You were injured… you roared in pain and you hid here… that's when Hiccup and I found you"

Thunder looked really happy, he even looked like he was about to drop some tears of happiness

"I gave you some mutton and helped you with your wing and then, we took you to the cove with Toothless… and there… I named you as Thunder" Blake said just before stopping right in front of Thunder

"I remember it as if it happened yesterday" Blake said before stretching his hand and look down

Thunder understood what Blake was trying to do, so he closed his eyes and placed his snout on Blake's hand

Then, Blake hugged Thunder, that was something that the dragon didn't expect but he happily returned the hug as he purred. Hiccup couldn't help but to smile with the

"I… I don't remember you much… but… it's good to see you again" Blake said

They stayed like that for a few seconds until Blake broke the hug and walked towards the exit of the cave but Thunder didn't move

"Aren't you coming?" Blake asked, so Thunder began to follow him

"It looks like you two have re-bonded" Hiccup said as they exited the cave

"I guess so" Blake said

"It's getting late, we should go back to the village" Hiccup said

"Actually, I'm going to stay here, I… I need to think… and it'll be a good chance to properly re-bond with Thunder" Blake said, so Thunder happily nuzzled him

"I understand, Toothless and I will come to get you to the academy" Hiccup said

"There's no need, Thunder and I will go… I trust that he'll be able to guide me" Blake said

Hiccup nodded as an answer and began to walk back to the village, so Blake looked back at Thunder

"Listen, like I say, I don't remember you much, so I can't blindly trust you" Blake said "So, if you don't try to kill me while I'm not looking, I won't chop your head off, okay?"

Thunder just happily licked Blake as an answer

"I'll take that as a yes" Blake said a little bit disgusted

Later that night, Hiccup arrived at the village, so he entered his house just to find Stoick cooking the dinner

"Hiccup, I was starting to think you'd be late for dinner" Stoick said

"Uh, dad, I need to talk with you about something" Hiccup said

"What is it, son?" Stoick said as he walked towards Hiccup

"Gobber told you I found Blake unconscious after that storm, didn't he?" Hiccup asked

"He did, how is Blake by the way? Has he woken up yet? I haven't seen him anywhere" Stocik said

"Well, about that… he woke up but… he's not really… the Blake you know" Hiccup said rubbing the back of his head

"What are you talking about?" Stoick asked

"He had an accident and he recovered all of his memories of Outcast Island… but he also lost all of his memories of Berk" Hiccup explained

"What? are you serious?" Stoick asked

"I am, when he woke up, he didn't recognize me or Thunder. However, I was able to trick him into think that he was captured from Outcast Island but you gave him the chance to be one of us" Hiccup said

"I see, he hasn't had any hostile intentions, has he?" Stoick asked, he knew about how Blake used to be and he also knew that it could be dangerous

"Luckily, no at least for now" Hiccup said "I was also able to make him remember how did he bonded with Thunder, but I'll need your help to make him remember his life here"

Stoick thought for a moment, for a second, he considered the idea of calling Alvin but he didn't want to take the risk of him attacking Berk once again if he knew that his son was back to his old self

"I'm listening" Stoick said as he sat on his chair

"Thanks, dad" Hiccup said

Meanwhile with Blake, he and Thunder were already asleep at the cave. Blake was leaning against the wall, while Thunder slept by his side

Unfortunately for Blake, he wasn't having a good sleep again, something that didn't go unnoticed by Thunder, who woke up and nudged Blake, trying to wake him up

It worked but Blake woke up with a gasp, he was confused and disoriented "That dream again" he said, so Thunder grunted to get his attention "What? I'm not allowed to have a bad dream?"

Blake got up and exited the cave and he realized that just like last time, it was early in the morning and the sun hadn't rose yet but it would soon

Without much to do, Blake began to explore the forest. Of course, Thunder went with him

They continued to walk for a while until they arrived at the cove, Blake didn't know why he went there, he just did it

Carefully, Blake entered the cove and stood in front of the lake

"This place… it's so calm… it… it reminds me about my special place back home" Blake said before sitting at the shore of the lake, so Thunder laid down next to him

"Sorry, for talking to you like that… I wasn't thinking straight" Blake said as he scratched Thunder's chin, he didn't know why he was doing it but it felt natural

"I'm not sure why but… I feel… happy… sad… confused… I'm feeling all that just by sitting here… what's wrong with me?" Blake asked as his head began to hurt

"Why?" a voice asked, taking Blake by surprise, so he quickly stood up and began to look around

"Who said that?! Show yourself!" Blake demanded

"Why?" the voice repeated

Blake was really confused because… he was hearing his own voice, it came from everywhere and at the same time it came from nowhere

"You said that you'll take control and that we'll do what we were meant to do… help our father to take over Berk" the voice said

"Shut up!" Blake said as he covered his ears

"So… why you haven't done any of that?" the voice asked

"I… I don't know, so shut up and get out of my head!" Blake yelled

Suddenly, Thunder roared, that's when Blake realized he was talking to himself

"Sorry, Thunder… you must think I'm crazy, don't you?" Blake asked, so Thunder hugged him with his wings

"Uh… I already gave you a hug, you know?" Blake said but Thunder didn't care, so Blake placed his head on Thunder's chest, listening to his heartbeat before returning the hug "Okay… I guess… another hug wouldn't hurt"

Then, Thunder realized the sun was starting to rise, so he broke the hug. Blake also realized the sun was starting to rise

"We have to go to the academy, you think you can take me?" Blake asked

Thunder nodded and bowed down, allowing Blake to ride him

"Thanks, just… don't go too fast, okay?" Blake asked as he got on Thunder's back "I'm still getting used to riding a dragon"

Sometime later, Hiccup and Fishlegs arrived at the academy, Blake and Thunder were already there waiting for them

"You're already here, I thought it'll take you longer" Hiccup said

"I always wake up a bit early" Blake said before yawning "Although, I did have a rough night but I can still do this"

"So, Blake, Hiccup told me you bonded with Thunder" Fishlegs said

"I guess so… I had some kind of flashback where I bonded with him" Blake explained "It's… weird because there's a huge void in my memory… in one moment I'm talking with my father, I close my eyes and then I'm standing in front of an injured Skrill"

"I know it's weird but it'll all start to make sense soon" Hiccup said

"Anyway, what are we doing today?" Blake asked

"Today I'm going to help you and Thunder strength your bond and your trust, but I'm sure Thunder already trusts you" Fishlegs said

To prove Fishlegs' point, Thunder nudged Blake, so he gave him some head pats

"Yeah, he seems to trust me but I don't know why he trusts me that much" Blake said

Minutes later, they were inside of the academy, Blake got a piece of mutton while Thunder stood not too far away

"Do I seriously have to do this again? The last time that Night Fury almost bit my hand off" Blake said

"Yes, you have!" Hiccup said

"You need to trust that Thunder will accept the mutton without harming you" Fishlegs said

Blake was a bit hesitant but he remembered how Thunder comforted him last night, he could've chopped his head of easily but he didn't do it

Blake took a deep breath and walked towards Thunder, when he was closed enough, he offered him the mutton

Hiccup and Fishlegs were a bit nervous, they knew there was no way Thunder would harm Blake on purpose but they also knew how Thunder behaved when there was mutton involved, it was a risk

Luckily, Thunder sniffed the mutton and carefully ate it, making Hiccup and Fishlegs sigh in relief

"You… didn't bite me" Blake said before gently petting Thunder's head

"Well, that's a good start" Hiccup said

Then, Blake and Thunder were standing in front of some targets

"Communication with your dragon is the key of the trust" Hiccup said

"That's why Thunder needs to know what you want him to do" Fishlegs said "Why don't you ask him to hit these barrels"

Blake wasn't sure of how to tell Thunder to hit the barrels, so he just gestured at them but Thunder looked at him confused

"Uh… attack" Blake ordered but Thunder still looked confused. Then, he seemed to have an idea

"Thunder, lightning blast!" Blake ordered

This time, Thunder understood what Blake meant, so he shot a lighting blast at each barrel, destroying them

"Impressive, good boy, Thunder" Blake said as he scratched Thunder's chin

"How did you know what to tell him?" Fishlegs asked as he and Hiccup walked towards Blake

"I don't know… it just felt like the right thing" Blake said

Then, Blake and Thunder were standing in front of each other

"Thunder might understand what you want to tell him but you also need to understand what he wants to tell you" Fishlegs said before looking at Thunder and give him a nod

Thunder and began to gesture up with his head, what Blake needed to do was understanding what Thunder meant

"Are you hungry?" Blake asked, but Thunder shook his head to say no before continuing

"Are you… sick" Blake asked but he was also wrong

"Wait, you want to go for a flight, don't you?" Blake asked

This time, he was right, so Thunder nodded and nuzzled Blake

"Okay, I get it, you're happy" Blake said as he pushed Thunder back

"Wow, even though it's your first time you've really made some improvement" Fishlegs said

"I'm a quick learner" Blake said

"Well, that's enough for now" Hiccup said "Blake, if you don't mind there's another thing I'd like you to try"

"Okay, I'll do it, I don't have much else to do" Blake said

"Alright, wait here" Hiccup said

"Good luck" Fishlegs said as he followed Hiccup

Minutes later, Hiccup and Astrid entered the academy

"This time we're going to do something different, that's why I brought Astrid" Hiccup said

"We might be dragon riders, but we can't always rely on them, we need to be able to defend ourselves if it's necessary, so I trust you know how to fight" Astrid said

"Ha, I've trained for all of my life, so I know how to use every weapon you can give me" Blake said smugly

"Good, because we're starting with a hand-to-hand combat" Astrid said as she entered the academy

"Hand-to-hand combat? That's even better" Blake said as he followed her

Thunder and Toothless didn't understand Hiccup's idea, so they looked at him

"I hope Astrid's able to bring some of Blake's memories back" Hiccup said "They used to spar here during the war with the Berserkers"

Moments later, Blake and Astrid were at the center of the academy in order to start with their hand-to-hand combat

"Ready?" Astrid asked

"I'm always ready" Blake said

Astrid quickly charged at Blake and tried to punch him, but he dodged it and tried to make her fall with a push but it didn't work

Then, Blake tried to punch Astrid a few times, but Astrid dodged them, so she tried to punch Blake back but he grabbed her arm and twisted it back and warped his arm around her neck. However, Astrid elbowed him in the gut, stomped his foot and pushed him away

"Okay… I didn't see that coming" Blake said "Who taught you that?"

"You did" Astrid said

"What? it's the first time I've had a combat with you" Blake said

"It's not" Astrid said "You taught me that move they day we make a surprise party to celebrate your first year here"

"My… first year here?" Blake asked

"Yeah, we didn't want you to come here, so I challenged you to a friendly combat at the cove" Astrid said

Blake was really confused, what Astrid was telling him didn't make sense, at least for him. However, he began to have another headache and like so, he began to remember

Blake and Thunder landed at the cove where Astrid and Stormfly were waiting for them

"Alright, are you ready?" Astrid asked

"Just give me a second" Blake said getting off Thunder's back before stretching his arms "It's been a while since I've done this"

Finally, when Blake got ready, he charged at Astrid without hesitation and tried to hit her, but she dodged it and tried to kick Blake back

"Hey, I hope you don't mind me for asking, but. Why were you walking towards the academy with a bunch of stuff?" Blake asked as he dodged Astrid's kick

"I haven't gone to the academy today" Astrid said as she made Blake fall with a sweep of her leg "You must have imagined it"

"Maybe you're right" Blake said as he got on his feet but Astrid grabbed his arm and twisted it back

Blake groaned in pain, before he could do anything, Astrid warped her arm around his neck

"Give up yet?" Astrid asked

Instead of answering, Blake elbowed her in the gut, stomped her foot and pushed her away

"That… was a good move" Astrid said as she took a deep breath "Where did you learn it?"

"Outcast Island, I guess those years of training didn't go to waste" Blake panted for the lack of air

They continued to fight for 15 minutes until they were both exhausted, it all depended on their last move

Both of them charged at each other ready to punch their opponent, but they both failed and fell to the ground

None of them say something for a couple of seconds, but then Blake rolled to be on his back and started to laugh

"Let's just call it a draw" he said as Astrid got up, then she walked towards Blake and help him up, but without warning she pushed him into the lake

"Looks like I win" Astrid said

"Alright, I'll admit it, that was good" Blake said as he got out of the water "I should've seen in coming, next time I'll get you"

"Ha, in your dreams" Astrid said

"Well, I'm going back to the village in order to dry myself off" Blake said as he got on Thunder's back "See you later"

When Blake woke up from his flashback, he now understood what Astrid was talking about

"You're right… I taught you that" Blake said "I remember it now"

"You do? If that's so, tell me how did I won that combat" Astrid said

"You took me off guard and pushed me into a lake" Blake said "Anyway… I need to process all of that… I hope you don't mind if I go"

"Go ahead, we'll finish later" Astrid said

Blake walked out of the academy with Thunder following him, he wasn't paying much attention to his surroundings, so a voice stopped him

"So, my son told me you've been trying your best to be one of us, is that true?" the voice asked

Blake looked where the voice came from and realized it was Stoick

"I'm waiting" Stoick said

Blake only gave a few steps backwards in shock, the man who his father taught him to hate was standing right in front of him
