"Next stop, the moon." Alexander joked, as he and Corda returned to the Altimah.
She smiled indulgently at him. "You know, a scan of the moon and area around it will take a little while. We haven't danced in the moonlight for a long time."
"The last time was more then a decade before we died and moved on to another life. You wore a dark blue dress that made my mouth water at how delicious you looked."
"Explains why you did alot of nibbling later."
He grinned like an umpenrepent schoolboy at her.
Alexander settled the cloaked Altimah into orbit around the moon. "Set it to scan for the energy from a tear. Then we'll dance, it'll take a little while to finish."
Corda set the Altimah to scan and went into Alexander's arms. There in the control room of the Altimah, under a holographic display of the moon, the couple danced while they waited for the scan to complete.
About half an hour later, the Altimah signaled it had found something. Alexander and Corda reluctantly stopped dancing and checked.
"There is a tear and I've just figured something out. Back when Oz first became a werewolf, I questioned why the cycle was tied to the moon. The other dimension doesn't have a sun. And ours has a bad effect on most of the demons we're aware of. This tear is exposed to sunlight, directly and indirectly at all times. Except for the night of a full moon. It's partially protected from the sunlight the day before and the day after. The demon that responds to the summons must have to protect itself, maybe in some sort of cocoon, when it does, so it can avoid the sunlight."
"All the other tears occur underground. As far I can remember, I never heard of any being discovered in midair, for instance. The one under Sunnydale was just under the ground the school was built on."
"Werewolves can learn to control the change, but are still forced to transform during the full moon. It's why Oz locks himself up. He may remember bits and pieces of what occurs when he's wolfed out, but he's more animal then man, during that time. The energy from this particular tear is somewhat different as well. It must open to a different place in the other dimension. Some combination, space, sunlight, a different location in the dimension or something else, must have come together in a way that affects werewolves."
"Sealing this tear will mean no werewolf will be subject to the full moon cycle anymore. Oz won't have to lock himself up during that time. He'll still be a werewolf, but he won't be forced to change against his will. None of them will."
"Just like every other shape shifting people we know of."
"I'm going to get suited up." Corda said. "And go seal that rift. I can't wait to tell Oz. He may do more then just that slight smile of his. He may actually grin."
"I'll be sure to have a record made to capture it so we can prove to everyone that comes after that he actually can."
Alexander kept a close eye on Corda and the tear as she exited the Altimah and made her way to it. You could never know if something was going to try to venture out anyway. He didn't relax until she was safely back on the Altimah.
"All sealed." Corda reported, as soon as she back aboard. "The energy didn't behave any differently then it did with the other two."
"Good. Now we head to the outpost and make sure McKay is behaving himself and leaving Jonno alone."
Not long after, Alexander set the Altimah down near the outpost and he automatically set the security features, before he and Corda exited through the airlock. They could've ringed down, but that would bypass the security checkpoint and besides, they didn't want to startle the guard's with guns watching the rings.
"Where's Dr. Weir?" Alexander asked the guard's at the security checkpoint, as they scanned his and Corda's security badges. He ignored the way they were eyeing her. She was a beautiful woman and had been in their lifetime in Atlantis as well. He wasn't a jealous man and she didn't flirt with anyone but him, so no use commenting on the soldiers noticing she was beautiful.
"She and McKay are checking out something new that's been discovered. McKay thinks he knows what is and is trying to get into it."
"Where exactly is this?"
The guard took a look at a hand drawn map on the wall that he and the guard's were using to direct people around the outpost and pointed at the area. Comparing it to what his scanner showed gave Alexander a good idea of how to get there and he and Corda headed in to find Dr. Weir, so he could introduce Corda to her.
They found them examining a round metal ball about six inches across.
"Dr. Weir, I wanted to introduce you to my wife, Cordelia Chase, known as Corda, she's the Chief Financial Officer of the Altimah Project. Corda, this is Dr. Elizabeth Weir, she's in charge here."
"Are all the people in your company barely old enough to vote?" McKay asked acidly. "Although she is hot."
A narrowed eyed look from Alexander had McKay taking a step back. "In point of fact McKay, we're both over 500 years old. Alterans can live for a 1000 years." A comment that had both McKay and Weir gaping.
Trying to recover his composure, McKay fell back on his best defense, as far as he was concerned. Being right. "We found this new sensor. I can't get it to work."
"It's not a sensor, it's a maintenance bot and you just need to press a button." Corda told him and pressed the button. Two mechanical legs immediately extended out, starling both Dr. Weir and McKay.
