Call

Season two, sometime after "Thanksgiving at Mrs. Rossini's." Reference to "There Goes the Bride" in season four.

"Bower residents," Tony said as he answered the phone late one afternoon.

"Hi, Tony," Angela's voice said into the phone. "I just wanted to tell you not to expect me for dinner. I need to finish this toothpaste campaign by tonight."

A warm feeling developed in Tony's chest as she spoke. She was so thoughtful to call; he didn't know any other boss who would do that. "Thanks for telling me, Ang," he said. "I'll be starting dinner soon, so I'll just make something for the kids." Then a dark image of her working all night with no food appeared in his head. "You'll eat something, right? Should I put something in the fridge for you?"

Gentle laughter reached his ear. "No, Tony; thank you for worrying, but I'll just grab a sandwich at the station."

"If you are certain," Tony said slowly. He knew her job was important to her, but sometimes he truly worried about her well-being.

"I am," Angela's voice sounded firmer now, more professional. "Goodbye."

With that the line was dead and Tony stared at the phone for a moment. Then he sighed. He'd best start in on dinner, even if it would only be for three tonight.
