Age 805, future timeline

Trunks landed on the ground, having just barely escaped another confrontation with Goku. The half-saiyan panted, recollecting himself. The time machine's circuits whirred as Bulma looked at the readouts. Everything looked good so far. If this worked, they would survive. She then heard something and turned around. It was Trunks.

The year of battle had taken a toll on him, his body being extremely thin from malnutrition. He had also dyed his hair blue as a tribute to her. She told him,

"You're looking well, kiddo."

Trunks replied,

"I guess. And you're looking as beautiful as always."

He walked down the stairs, and then noticed the time machine fuel. Bulma then said,

"That should be enough to make a one way trip."

"That's it? After a whole year of work?"

"Come on, let's stay positive. We just have to get you there, it's the best we can do."

"But only one way? I can't just leave you here!"

"There's a way to get back, but it's a gamble. You just have to trust me."

"Right. Hey, you've been working yourself to the bone this whole time, haven't you? Why don't you take a break?"

"Don't worry about me, I'll be fine. We don't have a second to waste."

Bulma typed commands on her holographic keyboard, causing the liquid filled tank to be freed from the table and a cap placed on it. She lifted it off the table. This was their last hope. She told Trunks,

"We've got to get this to Capsule Corp as soon as we can. I'm not taking any chances."

"I'll run. You should rest here, mom. You haven't slept at all, right?"

"I'll go too, just in case. What if you get caught off guard and he attacks?"

She lifted up the tank and told Trunks,

"If this tank is destroyed, this entire year will have been for nothing."

Trunks looked down sadly and muttered,

"I understand."

Bulma smiled, but quickly regained her serious face. She told Trunks,

"And, Trunks….Don't forget how many lives were lost to create this fuel."

Trunks nodded, and Bulma continued.

"You have a mission to do, even if it means abandoning everything else. You're everyone's hope."

"...yes."

"Now, let's go. Pan and Goten are waiting for us too."

As a black casing covered the tank, Trunks suddenly sensed something. Before he could say anything, the roof of the bunker exploded, Trunks barely getting his mother out of the way. As the two got up, recollecting themselves, Trunks realized that the device had been destroyed. There would be no do-overs if this failed.

Before they could process this, Bulma suddenly turned her head, holding the tank in front of her son and yelling,

"Trunks! Go!"

The next second, another explosion rang out, blasting Trunks back. He panicky looked around until he saw it. The man who had been tormenting the entire planet for the past year, holding his mother by the neck. Goku turned to look at Bulma, saying,

"You look just like her. But you're not her. You're just another fake."

Trunks cried out for his mother, but before he could get up, she told him to go. Trunks didn't want to leave her, but she ordered him to hurry. Before he could do anything, he was blasted back again, and from outside the building, watched as his mother completely evaporated.

As Trunks ran from the flames of the burning building, holding the fuel in his hands, he thought to himself.

'Mom…I swear, I'll make it back. I'll save this world no matter what.'

After running for what felt like an eternity, Trunks managed to reach a seemingly abandoned building. Walking into it, he saw Goten and Pan. Pan had grown her hair out and was wearing a smaller version of her father's old gi, and Goten's hair was soldier length and he wore a yellow and black gi. He also had several scars along his body.

For some reason Goku seemed to be particularly aggressive towards him. Pan ran up to him and wrapped a bandage around his arm. She asked,

"Are you ok?"

"Yeah, I got the fuel. Where's Gosai?"

"He's in the bunker tending to the wounded."

"Mom….she…."

"I know. I felt her energy disappear, but we can't let her sacrifice be in va-"

An explosion suddenly rocked the building, blasting the 3 saiyans back. As they got up, they saw Goku floating outside the hole in the wall, his palm outstretched. Goten reacted immediately. This was the man who had destroyed everything the 3 of them had built, and he would not let him get away with it.

The last full blooded saiyan's hair spiked and turned gold as he roared with the rage of a beast, powering up to super saiyan. He had just recently achieved the mastered version, but was still nowhere near super saiyan 2. He rushed at Goku, who simply grabbed him by the throat. As Goten struggled and squirmed, Goku muttered,

"Say hello to your parents for me. Especially Rikku."

With a primal shout, Goku thrust his hand through Goten's chest, killing him instantly. Trunks and Pan looked on in horror as Goku threw Goten's lifeless body to the ground. Pan then yelled at Trunks,

"Go now!"

Before Trunks could protest, another ki blast sent Pan flying. When Trunks ran to her, he couldn't sense her energy or feel her heartbeat. Horrified and enraged, Trunks looked to Goku, muttering under gritted teeth,

"You…..killed her…."

Goku simply looked on coldly as Trunks burst into super saiyan 2, screaming Pan's name as he punched Goku in the stomach. This actually caught the displaced saiyan off guard as he coughed up blood. Trunks continued his berserker offensive, but Goku quickly regained himself and got the upper hand, blocking Trunks's hits before punching him in the stomach too.

Trunks was blown back and knocked out of super saiyan 2 by this punch. As Goku hovered over him, Trunks realized that this was it. Everything he had ever fought for had been in vain. He thought to himself,

"Mom….Gohan….I'm sorry."

He closed his eyes, expecting the end. However, nothing happened. He opened his eyes to see Goku just floating there. He then said,

"Go."

"W-what?!"

"I know about the time machine Trunks. And I want you to go back. Because I want to kill Rikku myself."

Trunks was confused and shocked that Goku knew about the time machine, and replied,

"W-wait, if you know about the time machine…by the time I'm going back too Rikku will have been dead for 13 years."

"Heh. you're in for a surprise kid."

Goku then flew away, leaving a confused Trunks to run to the time machine. He filled it with the fuel, got in, and activated it. As the machine floated into the air, Trunks was left to ponder what had just happened. His entire remaining family had died within a few minutes, and Goku was apparently aware of both RIkku and the time machine.

He had known about his knowledge of Rikku for a while now, but the time machine was a whole new animal. As he disappeared into the timestream, Trunks thought to himself,

'Just who is this guy?'
