Jobless
During "Angela Gets Fired Part II"
Samantha wandered around Angela's house, wondering how much longer she would be able to live here.
Surely now that Angela was jobless, Dad would be jobless soon, too? How could Angela afford a housekeeper if she had no salary of her own?
There was no way Samantha could move back to Brooklyn now; without her accent she would be treated as an outsider there. And how she would live without seeing Marci, Bonnie, and her other friends on the drill team? And then there was Chad and Todd; either one who might ask her for a date soon.
Dad had told her not to worry as he cut coupons this morning, but Sam was very concerned that Dad would be jobless.
"… families stick together…" Dad's deep voice said as Sam approached the kitchen again.
"Family?" Angela's softer voice said in hopeful surprise. Sam wondered about that, too.
"Yeah," Dad's voice said firmly. And Sam watched as Angela clung to Dad as if afraid to let him go.
It seemed Dad wouldn't be jobless after all, if both Dad and Angela agreed they were a family. A warm feeling developed in Sam's chest as she thought of Angela as family. She was almost, sort of like another mother. And Jonathan was all right, too.
