He was the last one. He didn't think he deserved to live after what he had to do to end the war. A war that went on for so long. The Time War, the war between the Time Lords and Deleks. And he ended it all but at a cost. He thinks that he doesn't deserve the name he has chosen for himself after he killed so many. He was the last Time Lord, he was The Doctor. And he was saved.

2. Earth

After the war, he felt like he was just floating, alone in the vast emptiness of space. But after he met Rose Tyler, he could feel himself becoming ground to Earth or whatever planet they were standing on. Everytime he felt like he was going to drift off somewhere where he didn't want to go, he would grab her hand and could feel himself grounding. The feeling of skin, the way she grabs his, almost as if knowing what would happen if she lets go. Every tongue touch smile, every laugh, every tease and flirt, The Doctor could feel himself staying grounded more and more each time. Rose Tyler, the pink and yellow human, kept The Doctor grounded to Earth.
