Chapter 3: Kakashi's Meeting

Rin walked out of the Hokage's tower with Naruto sleeping in her arms, having fallen asleep after crying from finally getting a mom. Rin held on to him as firm as she could, noticing the glares she had received from the people on the streets and not wanting anyone to get too close to Naruto.

Once she rounded a corner to get to the street that led to her apartment she noticed Kurenai walking with Anko who both seemed to be heading in the direction of Anko's favorite dango shop. Kurenai, noticing Rin, waved to her as Rin made her way to her best friend.

"Hey how have you been?" Kurenai asked as she noticed the sleeping boy in Rins arms, this confusing her a little as when they last talked Rin had said that Naruto was going to be sent back to the orphanage much to his dislike. "Why do you have Naruto? I thought he was going home today."

Rin smiled as she looked down to her new son. "He is."

Kurenai looked at her friend, confusion all over her face. "Um Rin, I thought he was going back to the orphanage. Last time I checked it was that way." Kurenai said while pointing in the direction of where the village orphanage was located.

"Not anymore, he's going to be living with me now. I adopted him." Rin said, a large smile that stretched from ear to ear appeared when she finished her sentence.

Kurenai and Anko looked at Rin, shock all over their faces. "YOU WHAT!?" Anko yelled, scaring many on the streets. Naruto began to whimper at hearing the loud noise as Rin rocked him as best she could back to sleep, giving Anko an angry look while she did.

"sorry." Anko whispered covering her mouth right afterwards to stop another slip up from happening.

As Naruto returned to a peaceful sleep in his mother's arms, Rin gave a sigh of relief as she looked back to Anko. "It's ok, just be a little quieter around him ok. He's still very jumpy around anyone that isn't me, Kurenai, or the Hokage and if he woke up in front of all these people he may freak out."

"Even then he's only comfortable around me when your around, remember when you had to go to the bathroom at the hospital and he tried to go in with you just so he wouldn't be near me, man did that make me feel uncomfortable." Kurenai said while sighing.

"How did you think I felt? I'm gonna hate the first time I go on a mission after getting him. May have to ask Lord Third to watch him cause he even admitted Naruto may not like it with anyone else." Rin said, shoulders slumped as she knows Naruto will be a handful thanks to the monsters who hurt him.

"Well then looks like we'll have to get him used to his auntie Kurenai then, huh."

"Auntie Kurenai?" Rin asked giving her friend a questioning look.

"W-Well yeah, why not. I mean how bad could it be." Kurenai said, embarrassed that her friend was staring at her with a look as if trying to question her.

Rin smiled an evil grin to Kurenai, the woman noticing and becoming scared of whatever her friend was thinking. "Well if that's the case, Auntie Kurenai, you better get you scheduled cleared cause your going to be seeing him alot from now on."

Kurenai became uncomfortable as she realized she had just volunteered to have to deal with Naruto and any of his problems, or her friends' new problems, without being able to complain about them. 'Me and my big mouth. Why do I have a bad feeling about this.'

Rin's smile grew at the realization on Kurenai's face. Happy now at torturing her friend for the day a thought dawned on her as she looked back to the two. "Hey is Kakashi back from his mission yet?"

Kurenai looked at Rin as she thought about her question for a moment. "No, I don't think so. I'll tell you if I see him though. I'm guessing it's to tell him about your new man in your life." A small smile came to Kurenai's face as Rin grew bright red.

"Sh-Shut up. We all know I haven't felt that way about him since… since." Rin's mood grew somber as she remembered Obito, her old teammate and first true friend. When she was younger, Rin had a crush on Kakashi but after Obito's death during the Third Shinobi World War she realized it was nothing more than a crush and that she cared for Obito more than she ever realized while he was alive, something she regretted now as she was older.

Kurenai noticed Rin's demeanor change, now feeling bad that she was the reason for it. "Hey, I…I didn't mean it like that."

"No its fine, I know you didn't. It just brought up some old memories. But there's no room for that anymore. I have someone now that needs me and I won't let the past pull me down." Rin said,

determination coming to her as she looked to Naruto, who had snuggled up to her more with a small smile seen on his face.

"That doesn't mean you can't talk to your friends about it though Rin. We'll be there for you when you need it." Kurenai said as Rin nodded to her, a look of thanks that said all that words couldn't. "OK well you better get this little one home then, his day has still only just started. If I see Kakashi I'll tell him you need to talk to him at your place."

Rin nodded as she left with Naruto to her home, Kurenai and Anko waving goodbye to the both of them.

RIN'S APARTMENT

Rin entered her apartment and layed Naruto in her bed so he could sleep as comfortably as possible while she got a list of things she would now need to get for her new son. As she jotted down her list she realized one of the things was that her one bedroom apartment was too small for them both. While yes Naruto had been sleeping with Rin for the past couple of days now they still both needed their own space.

Rin thought about how much she had at the moment and thanks to her time working at the hospital she did have more money to spare that could get them at least a two bedroom apartment. Her thoughts were put on hold as she heard Naruto begin to wake up with a loud yawn. She went to her room to see him rubbing his eyes of their sleep, when he saw her he jumped into her arms happy to see her.

"Well aren't you awake huh? Have a good dream?" She asked him while hugging him tightly.

"Mhm. The bed is soft." Naruto said, happy his dream was real.

"Well that's good. Are you hungry?" She asked.

Naruto nodded as she brought him to the kitchen, placing him at a small chair next to a table Rin hardly used. She went to the cupboards looking at what might be good for lunch, noticing some ramen cups and taking them out. "You want some ramen?" She asked.

"What's ramen?" He asked, shocking Rin. Her sensei and his wife had been what could be considered ramen addicts when they were alive and any time they went anywhere out to eat it always seemed to be a place with ramen. Rin even remembered when she and her team went to Minato's home for a year meal after a such mission and her looking into his cupboard only to find instant ramen cups on every shelf, Obito even remarking that knowing their sensei it would all be gone by the end of the month. And low and behold it was.

"You don't know what ramen is. How is that even possible?" She asked, looking at Naruto.

"We never had it at my old home." He said. "Is it good?"

"Yep it is" Rin said, starting on boiling some water so they could enjoy their lunch.

After pouring the water in the cups and waiting a few minutes, a little longer then what the cups said to let them cool so Naruto wouldn't burn his mouth, she brought both cups to the table and sat next to Naruto. Blowing on his noodles to cool them down more she gave him his first bite of the food.

"Do you like it?" She asked as he tasted the ramen. Naruto's eyes became stars as he asked for more, telling Rin all she needed to know, helping him eat his lunch and cleaning his face before she ate her cup. She would only eat half of it though as Naruto asked for some more and thankfully she wasn't all that hungry. She noted that she would have to get more ramen as well for the list of things she would need for Naruto.

After their meal Rin went with Naruto to the orphanage to grab all his belongings from there like his clothes and anything else that was his. Noticing the lack of things he had from their they next went to a clothing store to buy him some more clothes, Naruto insisting on orange for everything but Rin made sure to get him other colors as well. When they left the store Rin noticed that the prices seemed to have increased only for them, something she would make sure to "fix" later on.

They both then went to the grocery store to buy some food to eat for dinner, Rin deciding on making rice and beef with some corn to give them a simple meal for right now. Not before grabbing some soy sauce and some pocky for herself however, the soy sauce to add a little extra flavor to their dinner and the pocky for a snack.

Heading home, Rin noticed the glares on both of them grow stronger, as if the people around them were trying to scare them away. Naruto clung to her, not liking the people as they made him uncomfortable. Rin saw this and began to glare back in a way to show she wasn't afraid, many backing down once she did so.

As they entered their home, Rin set Naruto on the couch to play with his toys while she started on dinner. As she did a knock on the door was heard much to her surprise, going to see who it was Naruto started to grow scared and hugged her leg for comfort. Rin looked at who was at the door to then see Kakashi at the door waiting for her. Rin looked to Naruto as she bent down, hugging him so he'd feel safe.

"It's ok, they're a very good friend of mine. He won't hurt you I promise." Naruto looked to her as he did when he had for Kurenai, her giving him the same look that said this person wouldn't hurt him, as he nodded to her but still hugged her leg just in case.

Rin opened the door as Kakashi looked at her. "Yo. Been a while." He said, giving her a wave. Rin smiled at him, happy to see her old friend again after so long. "Yep it has. When did you get back?"

"A few hours ago. Kurenai told me you were looking for me to talk about something."

"Yep, and you'll never believe what."

"What, you got some new pocky flavor you wanted to try out." Kakashi said, sarcasm evident as he began to bring out a small orange book from his back pouch but just at that moment he noticed the small blond poke his head from behind Rin's leg to look at him, Naruto immediately hiding once more when he saw that Kakashi had noticed him.

Kakashi nearly had a heart attack at seeing the miniature version of his deceased master, jumping at seeing the child who had been startled and ran deeper into the home. Wondering if he was under some sort of genjutsu, Kakashi looked at Rin wondering who that was. Rin was a little surprised by his reaction as he was usually much more subdued in his emotions then most of their friend group. After calming him down, Rin checked to see where Naruto had gone as she didn't feel him near her anymore. Looking around the apartment she noticed him hiding behind the couch shivering in fear and whimpering. Rin ran to him and embraced him in a tight hug, rubbing his back to comfort him. Kakashi noticed this as he entered the apartment, noticing some small toys on the living room floor and an orange blanket on the couch. Kakashi also noted the groceries and food that was cooking in the kitchen, much more than Rin would usually eat.

Looking to Rin Kakashi now saw her holding the small boy in her arms, clearly trying to comfort him and make him feel less afraid. Kakashi didn't know what to even do as he just kept thinking about the child and how he looked almost exactly like his teacher, but it was only a coincidence, right?

After Rin had finally calmed Naruto down she looked to Kakashi who gave her a look that said he was very confused. Sighing, Rin gave Naruto a kiss on the forehead and looked into his eyes. "It's ok. He wasn't going to do anything to you. You just startled him a bit, that's all."

"Y-You sure?" Naruto asked, still shaking.

"I'm sure." Rin said, giving him a hug. "Now I want you to be brave ok. Can you do that for me?"

Naruto buried his head into her chest, fear still inside but now a little bit of bravery coming to the surface. "o-ok mommy." He said in almost a whisper.

"That's good." Rin looked to Kakashi as she spoke. "Kakashi, this is Naruto Uzumaki. Naruto, this is Kakashi Hatake."

Kakashi's shock grew as he realized that there was only one person this boy could be. This was Minato's son. But that shouldn't be possible, he should be dead. Kakashi gulped as he looked from Rin to Naruto and then remembered what the boy had said to her. "Mommy?"

Rin nodded as she looked at Naruto. "I adopted him."

Hours later

Kakashi was sitting on Rin's couch as he went through all he learned today. His sensei's son was alive and Lord Third had kept this from both him and Rin as to keep all three of them safe. The only reason they even found out about the boy was due to some men attacking the small boy during the festival and Rin just so happened to be lucky enough to find him. Kakashi asked Rin as much about the men as possible from physical descriptions to where they went, he would find those men and make sure they paid for what they did.

Rin sat in an armchair with a sleeping Naruto in his orange blanket cuddled up on her, not wanting to be away from her while the white haired man was around. Having his hair be called white instead of silver made Kakashi feel old, much to Rin's amusement. Rin stroked Naruto's hair as he slept, noticing that it may need to be cut as it was getting a little long.

"I can't believe this."

Rin was shocked to hear Kakashi speak after so long of being silent. Having been so since she told him about Naruto after he ate and fell asleep. "I couldn't when I first found out either."

"He's alive, I've been beating myself up for years because I thought he was gone." Kakashi said, sorrow in his voice.

"Kakashi, it wasn't your fault. Sensei didn't think anything bad would happen when Kushina was pregnant. At least nothing he couldn't handle. You can't keep blaming yourself for these things."

"But if I was there I could have done something Rin. I could have saved them both."

"Kakashi, if you were there you could have died as well. If I was there I could have died, or worse. So it isn't your fault nor is it mine. You have to let it go if you want to start healing."

"And how do I do that Rin. It's been five years since Obito died and three since sensei and Kushina died and…"

"And four since the Sanbi. I know. And as for how, maybe start with him." She gestured to the sleeping boy. "Help him. He needs it the most."

Kakashi looked at Naruto. "How?"

"He needs people he can trust. And I think you can help with that. If he can trust you like he has with me then you'll have honored sensei and Kushina's last wish. For him to be loved."

"I'm not exactly parent material." Kakashi said, raising an eyebrow towards his former teammate.

"You don't have to be. Just be there to help him the way you can and I know sensei will be proud."

Kakashi sighed, closing his eyes in thought. After a few minutes his eyes opened once more as he looked back to Rin. "OK. I'll try."

Rin smiled at her old friend, happy he was willing to do what he could to start healing. "That's all I can ask for. Now I think I'm going to get this one to bed. We both need our beauty sleep, wouldn't you say?"

Kakashi only snorted as he left the apartment, Rin taking Naruto to bed for the night.

XXX

Rin felt her body fall as she noticed the darkness around her. Unable to move she began to wonder what was happening until she felt a splash of water as her entire body felt like it was being dragged down to the depths. Still unable to see but somehow able to breath under the water, Rin wondered if she was dreaming. But no dream she has ever had has felt this real. So how was this possible?

Rin felt her feet hit the sediment as she reached the bottom of this strange body of water. Then she noticed a light above her. Looking up she saw the "water" condense into a blue orb that looked like her chakra. Next to the orb was a single string of blue that connected a orb only slightly smaller then hers but felt very familiar.

'This orb feels like that of Naruto. So this had to be his chakra. It's almost the size of mine already at this age. But how? Is it because he's an Uzumaki? Wait but how is our chakra even connected, that should only happen with a pregnant mother and their child. Unless. That's right, you can give chakra to someone unconsciously to calm them down. And Naruto was whimpering so I held him close to me to calm him down. And after that I don't remember. So this must be my mindscape then. Definitely not what I expected.' Rin thought to herself as she looked around.

'So if this is my mindscape then where is the Sanbi? It should be here if Minato sensei's replacement seal worked how it should have.'

At that moment Rin heard a low growl as she turned to see a large cage with a tag on its lock that had the writing for seal on it. "H-Hello." Rin was a little scared at the moment. This was her first time ever actually meeting the Sanbi since she had it sealed into her and even if she was supposed to be safe, the stories of the Nine Tails didn't make her feel like having a mountain destroying monster right in front of her. Suddenly, light blue chakra came through the bars and rose towards the chakra that was Naruto's. Rim panicked as she didn't want to Three Tails anywhere near her son, buy just as the chakra touched Naruto's chakra a reddish-orange chakra suddenly attacked the blue chakra, sending it back to the cage.

Rin watched as the new chakra came down to her and stopped just before her, seemingly waiting for her to make the first move. She waited, hoping it would go away. Just then the chakra lashed out at her and for only a moment she saw the Nine Tails once again. It's white fangs and blood red eyes all burnt themselves into her memory forever before a roar woke her up from her slumber, pain in her stomach as her seal glowed a bright red before fading just as soon as it had come.

Rin rubbed her stomach as the tingling faded before seeing the red glow appear once more. But this time it wasn't on her.

Rin looked to Naruto, who's seal lit up for the first time since she had met him as he began to cry in pain. Rin grabbed him and help him, knowing this was the foxes doing as she heard him wake up.

Naruto's scream was bone chilling as he woke up with more pain then he ever felt before. Unable to do anything else, he cried as the pain kept getting worse. Naruto heard his mother try to shush him and felt her hold on to him but it didn't help. The pain in his stomach was unbearable and he could hardly breath. He just wanted it to end and not feel this way ever again. Naruto looked at his mommy with tears running down his face hoping she could do something, anything to make the pain go away. "MAMA!" He cried looking to Rin for support.

Rin soothed his pain as best she could, using a medical jutsu that dulls the pain in the area she places her hand so the patient can feel more comfortable. Placing her hand on his seal she noticed its glow vanish and his cries begin to lesson as she held him and used her jutsu to make the pain go away. She hated that he had to go through this. She didn't want to see him cry. She wanted him to be happy and smiling. She wanted Naruto to be able to have a normal life without having to deal with the pain and suffering of being that monster's host. She wanted him to feel safe. And she was going to make sure he did, no matter what.

End of chapter

Author's Note: hello, hello. Did you miss me? Anyway sorry for the shorter chapter this time but I wanted to introduce Kakashi into the story along with Isobu and Kurama so I put them in at the end. I have some plans for them, especially Isobu, so be ready for that.

OK so I'm honestly surprised that this story has become my most popular story at the time of writing this. Honestly I expected Two Small Miracles to be more liked of all things considered and I knew Shining Leaf wouldn't be as popular with it having an op oc as the main character that I can see many already considering a Mary Sue and I can definitely see that and even with the context of the dnd sessions he's in he still can come off as that so I don't blame anyone for not wanting to even read that story. Doesn't mean I'm gonna stop writing it cause that story is my baby but I know what you guys want to see and u won't make my love for one story overshadow my others, especially since so many of you love my other two stories on this site so far. But with that said I was still expecting this to be only my second favorite story at best but it seems many others like a Rin adopting Naruto story more than even I would have guessed so I'll try not to disappoint you all.

OK so with that being said I got my first review for this story. So PotatoFanFics (beautiful name btw) thanks for liking the story and I hope you are happy to see this chapter out so soon.

Anyway with all that I hope you all have a wonderful day and I'm going to continue writing while the sun is still out.
