Chapter Nine
A/N: I do not own anything other than my OCs when they come out to play. Everything else belongs to Disney or the Greek Myths!
Holy cats you guys, can you believe we're twelve reviews away from 100? And we haven't even hit ten chapters yet! Thank you all so much for your support throughout this story so far! I hope you continue to enjoy it! :D
Oh and just to let you guys know, I 86'd the baby talk for all toddler characters-it's a pain in the neck to write and all it makes me do is want to skip the toddler years and go straight to the kid years which is horrible for pacing. Hence no baby talk :D
danifan3000: Oh I'm so glad you liked the foam swords!
AmethystDragon14: Yay! I told her and she purred a thanks for your appreciation :D Hey we gotta bring Mal into the mix somehow don't we? And yeah Hades would miss them if they left, I could totally see that. :D
LotusQuil: Oh yay! I just loved the idea when you suggested it and I had to bring it in! And you (or your writing) might have influenced the Hades/Persephone moments of a 'fun' break lol. Oh man now I need that! Aww, that's adorable—and possible realistic too but still adorable!
OceanBluueSeaEyes: Oh yeah I could definitely see Hades allowing Sammy, Jess, and Harriet around his own kid when he finally gets around to having one *wink*. Which might actually be soon.
Flaresouth: No worries! There are some things regardless of universe that I'm going to keep—and Elle in her chair is one of them :D
IWantColouredRain: Well that's the good thing about friends—they never leave you :D
Hope you all enjoy this chapter! Let me know what you think! :D
Hades shook his head as he made his way through his home. Somehow, three years had passed and yet he still wasn't alone.
Granted, that was partially on him. Having grown used to Hook and Smee being around, plus the common sense that came from their wives most of the time, Hades had extended the invitation for them to live with him permanently as an alliance.
Plus the little sunspots had somehow latched on to Pain and Panic, even going so far as to glare at Hades whenever he yelled at them. Pain and Panic he meant, not the sunspots.
Not only would Hook and Milah eviscerate him if he ever yelled at one of their daughters, but Mollie Smee would more than likely help when it came time to hide the body—and Hades was a God. Even with the magical barrier, he still had his immortality.
Thanks in a large part to there only being one vial of the Godhood removing potion and the only potion maker scary enough to attempt to make another was here on the Isle with him.
There was a reason why Yzma was considered scary beyond all reason and it wasn't just because of her age.
"Unca Hades?"
"Hmmm?" Hades said, not noticing the title as he looked down to see which one of the sunspots had asked for him. "Oh, hello Harriet. Everything okay?"
"My sword broke!" Harriet said, holding up the wooden sword that had replaced the foam one that Persephone had purchased for the girls when they were babies. "I was supposed to spar with Jessie and I was practicing and I tripped and fell and my sword broke! How am I supposed to be a pirate like papa without a sword Unca Hades?"
Hades shook his head and gently took the wooden sword from Harriet. "Were you hurt?"
"I'm okay!"
"Harriet…"
"…my knee hurts…"
Hades sighed and looked over his shoulder. "Pain! Panic! You two have five seconds to get in here!"
"Coming!" His minions yelled and not five seconds later, the two imps stood in front of him.
"Nice timing," Hades said. "I've got two tasks for you two and I trust that you won't mess them up. Pain, I want you to go get the first aid supplies Persephone keeps bringing back."
Even though his great-niece and great-nephew-in-law were High King and Queen, Hades still had to wonder about their mental capacity since they never included a hospital. Then again, Beast had been the one to be in charge of setting up the Isle from what Persephone had heard so maybe it wasn't Eric and Ariel's fault after all. Hades was always in favor of laying the blame at Beast the Hypocrite's feet instead of blaming the granddaughter of the brother he actually liked.
Regardless though, every six months Persephone made sure that she brought over first aid supplies that would negate some of the issues that not having a medical system would cause. Especially now that they had mortals living with them.
"Yes Lord Hades!" Pain nodded and ran off.
Hades sighed and took the wooden sword, which was truly holding itself together by splinters, and handed it to Panic. "Find a way to repair this. I don't care what you have to do but do it."
"Yes Lord Hades!" Panic said quickly, the jittery green imp always quick with a response if one was needed. Before Hades could say anything, Panic ran off with the wooden sword.
"Now then," Hades said and scooped up Harriet. Honestly he hadn't even thought about it, it was just second nature. "Let's take a look at that knee of yours shall we?"
"Okay Unca Hades," Harriet nodded and the two of them went into the den where Hades set Harriet down on the sofa and gently rolled her pant leg up—after getting confirmation that it was the correct knee he was looking at.
"Do your mom and dad know you got hurt?" Hades asked.
Harriet shook her head. "The door to their room was closed. Jessie and Sammy say that when grown up's have their doors closed, you don't want to open them."
Hades chuckled. "Okay then. Well depending on how your knee looks, we'll just keep this our little secret. That sound good?"
"Yes Unca Hades!" Harriet said with a face splitting grin. This time, Hades did catch the new title and had to pause.
When had that happened? Children of the Isle used to run from him when he walked around his territory. That was how he liked it! It meant no morons could bother him with something trivial that honestly he had no business getting involved in.
And he would maintain for the rest of his Godhood that going against Frollo was neither tribal or moronic and that he had every business getting involved in it.
But now, looking at the three year old that was sitting in front of him, Hades found that he didn't necessarily mind the title. It was probably the only time he'd hear it since he hadn't heard any noise that Ursula was going to have a squidling of her own and all his other nieces and nephews were on the other side of the barrier.
Though to be fair regarding Ursula, she might had had the squidling and Hades just didn't know it. After all, Freddie Facilier was about Harriet's age and the few times Hades had seen the little shadowling, he had wondered how the girl got the white in her hair.
And then he stopped wondering that because thinking about Ursula and Facilier in that capacity was enough to make him heave.
Speaking of kids, there were rumors that Gaston had more kids than the two boys he proudly showed off. Yes Hades knew about Gaston's eldest daughter but there was talk of even more girls.
There was even talk of Gaston having had a fling with Madam Medusa, which was another thought that made Hades heave if he had to think about. The less he thought about the relationships of Gaston, the happier his mind was.
That being said, he still kept a close eye out for incoming souls. Just to make sure none of them were a young girl—it'd be all the reason Hades needed to kill Gaston where he stood.
"Unca Hades? You okay?"
"Huh?" Hades asked, looking down at Harriet.
Harriet pointed to Hades' hand, which was clenched around her pant leg. "Did my pants hurt you Unca Hades?"
"No, no," Hades said, quickly releasing the garment from his grasp. "I was…I was just thinking."
"Bout what?"
"Morons mostly."
Harriet crossed her arms. "Well then don't think about them if they make you mad Unca Hades!"
"I'll do my best there Harriet," Hades chuckled before actually looking down at her knee. "Looks like you'll just have a bruise."
"But it hurts!" Harriet said.
"I know," Hades said in what he hoped was a comforting voice. Despite the sunspots having been in the Underworld for the past three years, Hades still wasn't all that sure if what he did comforted the girls or not.
Granted no one had cried around him so that was always a good sign right?
"Lord Hades?"
Hades looked over his shoulder and nodded as he saw Pain with the first aid kit. "Good, you didn't mess this up. Do me a favor and get Captain and Captainess Hook."
Hey, his minion being traumatized was something Hades was fine with.
"Yes Lord Hades!" Pain said as he ran off. Hades shook his head and looked for one of the anti-bacterial wipes. Sure it was just a bruise but there was still a bit of stone floor on Harriet's knee that Hades didn't want to have heal into her skin.
"Alright kiddo, this might sting a bit if there're any cuts on your knee," he said as he opened one of the wipes.
"Okay Unca Hades," Harriet said softly. "Do you know when Panic will be done with my sword? I want to spar Jessie and Sammy won't let me borrow her sword if I tell her mine's broken."
"Why is your sword broken?" Jess' voice came from the doorway and both Hades and Harriet looked over to see Harriet's 'twin'. The adults knew that there was still a chance that Jess was Frollo's daughter though.
Not that Harriet knew that wasn't the case. To her, Jessica Mollie Hook was her twin just as she was her's.
"What's wrong?" Harriet asked.
"My knee hurt," Jess told her as she walked over to the pair. The two Hook girls always claimed that they could sense when the other was hurting because they were twins. Hades wasn't sure if that was possible but then he was a God so who was he to question that? "So I wanted to make sure you were okay and found Unca Hades wiping your knee."
Okay so clearly Hook or Milah have been calling me 'Uncle Hades' to the kids without me knowing, Hades thought as he shook his head. It wasn't like he minded, but it was weird.
What was next? Was Sammy going to come in and call him Uncle Hades too?
"Unca Hades? Why are you wiping Harriet's knee?"
Spoke too soon, Hades thought as Sammy rushed over and sat next to Harriet; just as Jess did the same on her other side.
"I…I was practicing sparring," Harriet said softly, wincing as the wipe made contact with her skin. "I know we were gonna spar later Jessie but I wanted to be prepared! I wanted to win!"
"As any Hook does," Jess nodded.
"I…I tripped," Harriet said softly. "Over my old foam sword. You know the—."
"The one mama told you to pick up off the ground because someone could get hurt if they tripped over it and she didn't want papa to possibly lose an eye on top of a hand?"
"Uh huh." Harriet nodded and then looked down. "My…my sword broke."
"Oh," Jess said before giving Harriet a hug. "That's okay. You still have your foam sword so we can still spar!"
"And you can borrow my sword Harri," Sammy said, joining the hug.
"But—."
"But what?"
Harriet looked down again. "I broke my sword."
"Uh huh," Sammy nodded. "But not on purpose! And you wouldn't break mine on purpose either so you can borrow mine while you wait for yours."
Hades couldn't help but smile at the sight. Let's hope that you three keep your innocence…and I've been around Steph far too long. Normally I wouldn't have cared about that.
"Should I get mama?" Sammy asked as she looked at Harriet's knee. "She can get your mama."
"Why didn't you get mama?" Jess asked.
Hades chuckled. "I told Pain to get both your mom and dad. Harriet said that their door was shut when she went to get them herself so I figured it'd be better that Pain saw whatever your parents were doing and not you girls."
"And I'm sure our daughters appreciate that Lord Hades," Milah's voice came from the doorway. "We certainly do."
"Is everything okay lassies?" Hook asked as he walked over to his daughters.
"I…I hurt my knee, papa," Harriet said softly. "I tripped over my sword. I know mama told me to pick it up but I wanted to practice sparring first."
Hook chuckled. "Well you're definitely a Hook, I know I would have picked sparring over cleaning. But your mama told you to do something."
"Like…like an order?"
"Aye lassie, like an order."
"Oh…."
Milah shook her head and walked over to her daughter. "Harriet, sweetheart, I'm not upset that you chose sparring over cleaning up your toys. I know you too well, my little captain. But I am upset that you got hurt and you didn't get us."
"But your door was shut!" Harriet said, looking up at Milah with wide eyes. "And Jessie and Sammy said that grown ups with shut doors should be left alone!"
Hook chuckled. "Is that right?"
"Uh huh," Jess nodded. "Virgil told me that!"
Hades tilted his head. "You're allies with Panic's son? I didn't even know he talked to you girls."
"Why wouldn't he, Unca Hades?" Jess asked, looking over at Hades.
"…When did that start?" Hook muttered to Milah.
"I'm not sure dear," Milah muttered back to him. "But it's sweet."
"It might be sweet but what if Lord Hades didn't want to be called 'Uncle'?"
"Well then Lord Hades will have a word with them…which reminds me, we need to talk to him anyway."
"What about?" Hades asked and the Hooks looked over at him in shock. "You two might have been quiet for mortals but you might have forgotten that I'm a God."
"Right, right."
"So…what is it that you need to talk to me about?" Hades asked again. He wasn't going to flame up around them, especially not around the sunspots.
Milah looked over at Hook, who nodded.
"I…I think that might be something we'd need to speak about in private," Milah said as she looked back at Hades.
"Is everything okay?" Hades asked as he led Milah and Hook into the kitchen. "Is it Frollo? Has he started up anymore trouble?"
Milah shook her head. "No, nothing like that. Unless James hasn't told me something?"
"Frollo's kept his nose away from the crew after I sent the one scurvy rat he managed to snare overboard for that blasted crocodile to have for his lunch," Hook said.
"Alright," Hades nodded. "Then what's the issue?"
Milah sighed and rested her hand on her seemingly flat stomach. "Lord Hades…you've been so good letting us stay here for as long as we have. And we'd hate to continue to be an imposition but…would you mind if we took another room? Not right away mind you but in about nine months?"
"I mean I don't see why…wait, nine months?" Hades asked.
"Well that's when babies come of course," Milah said with a grin as she held up the pregnancy test (another common item Persephone brought back from Auradon. Thankfully with the online shipping Auradon now had, no one seemed to question the fifty or so pregnancy tests in Persephone's bag).
"We're having a sister?!"
Milah, Hades, and Hook all jumped as they heard Harriet and Jess' voices in the entry way of the kitchen.
"Memo to me, memo to me, get a door for this kitchen," Hades muttered.
Milah chuckled before looking at her daughters. "You're getting a sibling dears but yes. You never know, you could get a brother."
"Like how Piper has her little brothers?" Jess asked.
"Uh huh."
"…Can I get another sister in that case? I don't want a brother like a Gaston!"
Hook shook his head. "If the Fates bless us with a brother for you lassie, I can promise you he won't be like a Gaston. Because he'll be a Hook."
"Oh," Jess said before going to hug her mom. "I can't wait for the baby!"
Hades smiled as he saw Harriet do the same thing. But in the back of his mind, he knew that there needed to be a way to increase the protection his allies had. After all, there was only one of him and there were plenty of enemies that Milah might face on the Isle. And it was well known that a good majority of villains were idiots anyway.
The only question was how could Hades up that protection?
