It's only been a week since I started attending Monster High, and things weren't the way I wanted them. Manny and Heath were always teasing me, some monsters were still not entirely happy with my arrival, The jokes never stopped and sometimes I was always alone at lunches.
Although I have Draculaura, Frankie, Clawdeen, Cleo, Abbey, Ghoulia, Rochelle, Operetta or Vandala as my friends, what I wanted was to be able to get along with everyone.
I was now at home with Draculaura having breakfast but I was lost in thought while the vampire girl was talking.
"So I told Frankie that that bag fit her but she didn't want to buy it even though Cleo was offering to pay for that bag." Draculaura said but she saw that I was looking at my pancakes with a somewhat thoughtful look.
"Umm, Benja is everything okay? You didn't touch your breakfast." Draculaura said somewhat concerned.
"Mm? Oh, I'm so sorry Draculaura I'm just thinking about how to get at least others to accept me at Monster High." I said something sad.
Draculaura looked at me for a few moments, understanding what was happening. She like the rest of her friends saw everything that happened to me, despite the fact that Abbey and Rochelle tried to keep everything under control they could not be constantly defending me all the time.
However at that moment the vampire girl would come an idea that would make her show a smile.
"Benja, at school there are clubs that you could join. Maybe if you find a club that I accepted the others can accept you." Draculaura said. That statement made me look at her with surprise.
"Draculaura, are you sure? Besides, now I am a hallway vigilant like Rochelle, I do not think she could give me a day off." I said as I looked at the vampire girl a little worried.
"I'm sure if you ask her nicely she can make an expression, come on Benja. At least try." The vampire girl said with a smile.
At that moment I began to think about Draculaura's proposal, although I still had my doubts, a part of me told me that maybe if I did this the others could accept me and maybe I could have some fun.
"Okay, okay Draculaura. Tell me what clubs are in the school?" I asked curiously.
"There's the chess club, the swimming club, and the basketball club." The vampire girl said with a huge smile.
"Very well. I just hope Rochelle doesn't get mad when I ask her for the day off." She told her with a smile. Draculaura and I were talking for a few minutes before we left for school.
Rochelle and I were walking through the halls checking that a student is not out of class. However, the gargoyle girl noticed that I was a little nervous, something that caught her attention.
"Benja, is everything alright?" Rochelle asked somewhat concerned.
"Rochelle, ummm. I want to ask you a favor." I said nervous.
"Sure, what do you need?." The gargoyle girl asked curiously.
"Rochelle, I want to ask if you can give me the day off. Draculaura told me about some clubs and I want to get into one so I can get along with the rest of the other students. Please, just for today." I said something nervous while Rochelle thought about what I said.
"Okay Benja, I guess this is important to you. I'll let you have this day off." The gargoyle girl said with a smile. However, she was very surprised when she suddenly hugged her and lifted her up with a big smile.
"Thank you Rochelle, I really thank you very much. I promise I'll make it up to you." I said very happy before giving him a kiss on the cheek. That made Rochelle even more surprised as I stopped hugging her and ran off to get ready to go to the clubs.
Rochelle stood still in the middle of the hallway as she touched her cheek with a small smile.
"Good luck, Benjamin." The gargoyle girl said before continuing to walk to make sure there were no other students besides her.
Swimming Club.
"Benja. I am very happy to have you here in the club, I hope you like the club." Lagoona said with a smile as I got ready to swim.
"Alright Benja, let's stretch first. Then we'll do a practice lap with the rest of the others." Said the saltwater girl with a smile.
After we stretched I saw how other monsters began to swim, I had to admit that they are very fast in the water but Lagoona and Gil were the best. Both of them were moving at a high speed and they weren't breaking a sweat.
"Alright Benja, your turn." Lagoona said as I got into the water with other members of the club.
"Okay, ready everyone? Let's go!!" The saltwater girl yelled as we all started swimming.
Lagoona and Gil watched in amazement as I moved at a great speed like them, making it impossible for anyone to catch up with me.
"Awesome Benja, great. What do you say Gil and I have a race against you?" The saltwater girl asked with a smile.
"I'd love to!." I said excited.
Everyone was watching closely that Lagoona, Gil and I were ready to compete. When one of the monsters announced the start of the race, the three of us began to swim at high speed.
Everyone watched in amazement as the three of us were having a very close race, we were giving it our all in the race but still Lagoona, Gil and I were smiling because of how much fun the race was.
"I'm impressed Benja, you're the first person to keep up with me and Gil." Said the saltwater girl with a smile.
"Thank you very much Lagoona." I said smiling as the two of us are swimming side by side.
"Don't be so confident Benja, there are still two laps to go." Gil said as he looked at me with a smile.
I just smiled as the three of us continued to run. However slowly my arms and legs got tired due to exhaustion and effort. Just as the last lap was about to end, Lagoona would arrive first, then Gil and finally me.
"By the monsters, Benja you are impressive. Normally other monsters would have tired after two laps. How did you manage to last so long?" Gil asked as he handed me a bottle of water.
"Well, before I came here to Monster High I used to train a lot at home. I really like practicing martial arts so I decided to train every day to be very strong." I said with a small smile as I remembered the training that Diana and I used to do although that brought me a little sadness.
"Benja that was amazing, I must admit you are a great swimmer. Maybe this is the perfect club for you." Lagoona said with a smile. When I heard that I smiled but at that moment I saw that some monsters were talking to each other while some looked at me somewhat annoyed.
"It was to be expected of that human, surely he came here to show off." Said one of the club members to the other members.
When I heard this I started to doubt. I was afraid that maybe once I join the club a lot of monsters might leave.
"Umm Lagoona, I think I'd better think about it. There are still a few clubs I'd like to meet before I make a decision." I said with a shy smile.
"Oh okay, don't worry Benja. Our door is always open for you." Said the saltwater girl as I got out of the pool and changed to go to another club.
Chess Club.
Diana always told me that a warrior must not only train physically for a battle, she also told me that exercising the mind was perfect for planning strategies and combat plans. So when I heard about the chess club I wanted to give it a try.
When I got to the club I saw that there were a lot of monsters but I also saw that Ghoulia was here too.
"Hello Ghoulia, I was wondering if there will be a space to enter the chess club." I asked curiously but unfortunately when the zombie girl spoke I couldn't understand anything.
"We have a lot of space in the chess club, it would be interesting if you join us." I looked in amazement at Ghoulia's cell phone while the zombie girl had a smile seeing my astonishment.
"Ghoulia, did you modify your cell phone to work as a translator?" I asked in amazement. Something told me that if Ghoulia met Barbara and Karen the girls would have a lot of fun creating amazing inventions on our base.
"You're right, a lot of monsters still have a hard time understanding monster language, so I modified my cell phone a bit to work as a translator so that others know what I'm talking about." When I heard that I couldn't help but be completely shocked.
"Ghoulia, you are a girl full of surprises." I said surprised. The zombie girl just laughed as she led me to a table to play chess against some zombies.
I was having fun playing chess, zombies are good at playing chess. I was slowly starting to win which caught Ghoulia's attention as well as his curiosity to see that I was winning some chess games.
At that moment Ghoulia walked up to me and tapped me on the shoulder to get my attention.
"Huh? Is everything alright, Ghoulia?" I asked curiously.
"I couldn't help but see the way you play, can we have a game together?" The zombie girl asked curiously.
"Oh sure that's fine." I said with a smile. Ghoulia would sit in front of me while other zombies watched everything intently.
Since Ghoulia had the white pieces, she was the first to start. I was very surprised, in less than a few minutes the zombie girl had taken a knight, a rook and four pawns from me just to start.
"Ghoulia, how long have you been playing chess?" I asked surprised.
"I've been in the chess club for years, I play against many monsters all the time. You could say I'm a pro at this." Ghoulia said as she placed a bishop on a square leaving my king in check.
I looked at this in amazement but smiled at this as we continued to play. What Ghoulia and I never noticed was that time was running out while the two of us were still playing, it was already lunch time so many monsters were looking around and seeing that Ghoulia and I were having a very close game.
"I am very surprised Ghoulia, no matter how hard I tried to put your king in check. You always manage to beat me before you do." I said surprised but also smiling. Ghoulia had defeated me on more than one occasion, as much as I tried to attack the zombie girl, she was better than me at planning her moves.
"But I won't give up that easily." I said as I put my bishop on a square making Ghoulia's king in check. That would leave the zombie girl very surprised but she would show a competitive smile as the game now became more intense.
Everyone was watching the chess match in amazement as Ghoulia and I started to sweat as we tried to achieve victory but at that moment the zombie girl and I stopped in disbelief and looked at the chessboard in surprise.
"I can't believe it, a draw." I asked very surprised as Ghoulia and I looked at the board. At that moment the zombie girl started talking on her cell phone before giving it to me.
"I'm really surprised, no one ever came to a draw with me before. Maybe chess club would be fun for you."
When I heard that I just smiled as my excitement got bigger. However, I heard some murmurs from some students that would make me nervous.
"I appreciate the game Ghoulia, but I think I'll have to think about it a bit. Still, I hope I can play against you another time soon. I promise I'll get better." I said with a smile as Ghoulia smiled and spoke once more.
"I will look forward to that day with great excitement, but I assure you that I will not hold back the next time we play together."
That statement made me pale. If the zombie girl was holding back all this time, something told me that the next time we play it might be something almost impossible to win or at least get to a draw.
Athletics club.
I was a bit disappointed. No matter how much he tried to get into some club, he always had the same feeling or the same insecurities when I see many monsters watching me in some club. But now I was very sure that the athletics club would be perfect, and it would be very useful for me to improve my training.
I was stretching with other monsters while waiting for our trainer and at that moment I see a girl but I was very surprised to see what the girl looked like.
The girl had purple skin but there was something that stood out a lot was that the girl was a centaur, the rest of her body was purple but in a darker tone, something I noticed was that she had wings on her back that had a color between a shade of turquoise and black.
"Okay everyone, I'm glad you're here. We have a new partner today, so I want you to treat him with respect." The girl said as she scratched my arm with some shyness.
"Wuju!!. Let's go Benja!!." At that moment I turned around and saw Draculaura with the rest of the girls in the stands.
"Girls? What are you doing here?" I asked surprised as I approached the grandas.
"We're on our break, and we saw you come here. So we're here to support you." Clawdeen said with a smile.
"Thanks girls." I said smiling until I heard a whistle and quickly had to go back to the others.
"Okay everyone, let's start with some easy stretches and then we'll start running around the court. Everyone get ready." The girl said as we all started to get ready.
After getting ready we all started running around the soccer field. Even though the soccer field at Monster High wasn't as big as the one at my school in Metropolis, I had to admit that it was perfect for training.
The centaur girl looked at me curiously and it was because in all the laps I haven't sweated what caught her attention.
"Hey normie, come here!!" When I heard that I couldn't help but swallow some saliva due to nerves.
"Yes?." I ask shyly however I saw that the girl instead of being upset seemed to have a smile.
"Tell me, how is it that you never get tired? I was looking at you and I couldn't help but see that you are very good at this." The girl asked curiously.
"Well. In the city I used to live in before, I always trained to get stronger and one of my training was to run around the court so I could be faster." I said with a somewhat shy smile.
"Well, I think that would be fun." I said smiling.
"Excellent. Then prepare yourself, I'm not someone who gets trampled on so easily." Said the girl as she gets ready. I looked at this with a smile while preparing myself.
"Who do you think is going to win?." Clawdeen asked curiously.
"I support Benja, but I'm pretty sure Avea will win." Cleo said confidently.
"Cleo, Benja always works very hard in his training. I'm sure he will win." The wolf girl said with a smile.
The centaur girl and I were ready to start the race as we both did a little stretching.
"Very well, the rules are these. We are going to run five times around the entire court, may the best one win. Okay?" The girl asked as she shook my hand.
"Only one thing, normie. Don't even think about cheating, or you'll be expelled from the club. Understood?" The centaur girl asked as she glared at me with a murderous aura making me pale.
"I promise, I won't cheat." I said nervous. At that moment the two of us prepared to start the race, everyone was attentive and suddenly we heard the sound of the whistle which was a clear signal that made the girl and I start running.
Everyone saw how the girl and I were very close in speed but there was a small detail that I was not realizing.
"Alright normie. I see you can keep up with me but let's see if you can keep up now." The girl said as she began to run faster causing me to see this in surprise.
When I saw this I couldn't help but smile, at that moment I began to increase the speed making the two of us return to be next to each other, but that only lasted a few moments until the girl increased her speed again making me do the same.
"Impressive, they are very close to each other. Benja can keep up with him." Frankie said with a smile.
"Even though Benja can't use his powers, he can still keep up with her." Draculaura said but was quickly silenced by Cleo and Clawdeen as the girls looked around to make sure no one had heard that.
"Draculaura, remember. Benja trusts us to keep his identity a secret, be more careful when you talk about it." Frankie said worried as little sparks flew from her neck.
"I'm sorry I forgot it". The vampire girl said sheepishly as everyone watched the race.
Minutes passed and everyone did not stop watching the race in amazement. I on the other hand was getting tired little by little, despite the training I always do, the centaur girl was much faster than me and keeping up with her closely was difficult.
"I'm very impressed, you're the first person who can keep up with me. We're almost done with our race, so I want you to see how fast you can run now." The girl said as she began to run faster, leaving me a little behind. Seeing this, I began to run with all my might, keeping up with her.
"Come on Benja, you can!!." Draculaura yelled as she and the girls supported me.
The centaur girl and I were sweating as we ran with all our might, we both shared the same feeling at that time and that was that we weren't willing to give up. Slowly the two of us began to approach the finish line while Ghoulia was waiting for us with a camera.
The girl and I had managed to get there just in time when the zombie girl took a picture of us, when I saw that the race was over I just stopped slowly before falling to the ground laughing.
"By Zeus. I haven't run that fast in a long time." I said tired. At that moment the centaur girl approached me with a bottle of water.
"I must admit you are someone amazing. I never thought anyone could run as fast as me before." The girl said with a smile. At that moment we saw that Ghoulia approached and showed us the photo. We both saw that even though the centaur girl and I had run with all our might, she had narrowly won.
"Wow, we were both close to a tie. I have to admit I had a lot of fun doing this race." I said with a smile.
"Well, what do you say then? Do you want to join the club?" The girl asked with a smile.
At that moment I started to doubt but my doubts changed to sadness when I heard the whispers again and saw some looks from the monsters. Just lower your head a bit while faking a smile.
"I'd love to be in the club, but I need to think about it. I was in the chess club and the swim club and I like them all. It's hard to choose." I said shyly.
"Oh, that's fine. If you change your mind then come, we're always ready to welcome more people here." Said the centaur girl with a smile.
"Thanks, um." At that moment I kept quiet since I didn't know the name of the girl until I saw that she laughed.
"Avea Trotter, nice to meet you." The girl said with a smile.
"It's nice to meet you Avea, my name is Benjamin." I said smiling.
"I hope we can have another race soon, it was a lot of fun." I said while looking at Avea with a smile.
"Hehehe, I'll look forward to that race with great excitement." Avea said with a smile.

the day is almost over. Avea was seeing that I was sitting alone while having lunch, normally I always have lunch with the girls but my friends had to go practice some choreography with Cleo so I was alone.
"Is everything okay, Avea?" Gil asked seeing that the centaur girl kept looking at me with a worried expression.
"I'm worried about Benja, he's lonely and he seems very depressed, also when he wanted to enter the school he seemed very sad and he mentioned something that would never be accepted by others." Avea said worried.
"Now that you mention it. Benja was acting weird, when I offered him to join the swimming club at first he seemed very happy but then I could see that he seemed nervous and a little sad at the same time." Said Lagoona, that statement received a settlement from Gil. Ghoulia hearing that would speak drawing everyone's attention.
"Benja was also in the chess club and was playing against you until the two of them tied in their last game." Said the saltwater girl as she looked at the zombie girl.
"Did you and Benja end up even in chess? Wow, I never thought that would happen. What happened next?" Gil asked curiously. Ghoulia would speak again drawing everyone's attention even more.
"Ghoulia says that after the game she told Benja that she might like the chess club. But she saw that Benja seemed very nervous and then told her that she would think about it." Lagoona said as she looked at the rest of her friends.
"Something's wrong with Benja, I think it would be best to talk to him. Besides, we can't leave him alone. He's sad." Avea said as she, Lagoona, Gil and Ghoulia walked to my table.
I couldn't understand what happened. I did my best to show what I could do and still others did not accept me. I was wondering what I did wrong, however my thoughts were interrupted when I saw Avea, Lagoona, Gil and Ghoulia approaching.
"Benja, can we sit down?" Gil asked curiously.
"Sure, I guess." I said without much emotion as my friends sat down.
"Benja, you've been acting weird lately. When you were in the clubs you showed your character in an impressive way. The Avea race, the chess matches with Ghoulia and the race between Gil and me. You always seemed very happy but then you looked to one side and suddenly you changed your activity and way of being. What happens? Lagoona asked as she looked at me worriedly.
At that moment I saw that everyone looked at me worried making me sigh something sad while scratching my arm shyly.
"It's just that sometimes I feel like I can't get along with others. Lots of monsters always make fun of me and laugh at me, Rochelle and Abbey always help me out. I thought if I could show what I could do, maybe I could get along." well with everyone. But I see I'll be alone here." I said as he looked away.
Avea looked at me with concern and sadness before placing a hand on mine, drawing my attention.
"Benja, I know how you feel. Before I came here to Monster High, some friends and I had trouble adjusting because we're hybrids." Said the centaur girl making me look at her curiously.
"Wait, are you a hybrid monster?" I asked surprised.
"Yes, my dad is a centaur and my mom is a harpy. That's why I have these wings on my back." Avea said as she flapped her wings causing me to watch this in amazement.
"For a long time every school my friends and I went to we were all teased for being just hybrids. When we got to Monster High at first I wasn't very confident, but Frankie opened my eyes and I realized I can be myself. no matter what other people think." Avea said with a smile.
"What I mean is that. You shouldn't care what other people think of you, the others are still getting used to you being here. You just have to give them some time, be yourself and do what you like. Besides, you're not alone." Said the centaur girl with a smile calling my attention.

"Hey Avea! Making new friends?" At that moment the girl and I turned around and saw three monsters approaching. The first was a boy with grayish skin, his hair was of multiple colors such as red, yellow, blue and black but what stood out the most was a unicorn horn on his head.
The second monster was a girl with pink skin, her hair was very beautiful, a color between light yellow, black and pink, but what stood out were pink wings.
The last girl had almost ghostly white skin, her hair was a dark blue color. What surprised me a lot was that the girl was a mermaid, but what left me very surprised was that she floated in the air without problems.
"Oh hey guys. Benja, these are my friends." Avea said with a smile.
"Hello, my name is Neighthan Rot. I'm a hybrid half zombie and unicorn." Neighthan greeted me with a smile as he shook my hand but he would accidentally trip causing me and Avea to quickly catch him.
"By Zeus, are you okay?" I asked concerned while the hybrid boy laughed.
"Yeah, I'm really sorry. Sometimes I trip all the time, I'm kind of careless." Neighthan said with a shy smile.
"Hahaha, don't worry. It's fine." I said smiling. However, at that moment, my hair began to float, something that surprised and worried me a lot since I thought it would be my air element.
"Unbelievable, you've never met a human with white hair and especially long hair." the mermaid said as she floated around me playing with my hair.
"Hahaha, I think you scared him, Sirena." Said the pink-skinned girl calling the attention of her friend.
"Hahaha, Benja, she's Sirena. Excuse her, she's very curious most of the time." Avea said with a smile as the mermaid left my hair and stood next to Neighthan.
"Nice to meet you." Sirena said as she showed a smile.
"The pleasure is mine, I guess you're a hybrid monster too, aren't you?" I asked curiously.
"That's right. I'm a hybrid of a mermaid and a ghost." The mermaid said with a smile.
"I guess I'm missing my name is Bonita Femur, nice to meet you Benja." The girl said as she and I gave each other a light handshake.
"She's also a hybrid monster. She's the daughter of Mothman and her mom is a skeleton." Sirena said as she looked at her friend.
"It's nice to meet you all, I hope we can be good friends." I said smiling but I noticed that Avea's friends looked at me with surprise.
"You really want to be our friend? It doesn't bother you that we're hybrids?" Neighthan asked curiously.
"Why would it bother me if they were hybrids?" I asked confused.
"It's just that some humans always look at us with annoyance and make fun of us." Sirena said as Bonita started to bite the sleeves of her clothes due to her nerves.
"Don't bite your clothes, Bonita. What did your dad tell you?" Avea asked as she looked at the moth girl.
"I'm sorry, Avea. But when I think about those humans I can't help it. It always makes me very nervous." Bonita said as she stopped biting her clothes.
"I'm sorry to hear that, but to be honest. I think all of you are amazing, plus you seem to be very friendly and nice monsters." I said while looking at Avea and her friends.
"Are you serious? We're not bothering you?" Bonita asked curiously.
"A friend here told me that Monster High is my home and my classmates here are my family, that means that you are part of my family. And when someone is my family or they are my friends, they become very important people for me. " I said smiling that surprised Avea's friends a lot.
"Dude, that's very nice of you. I never thought any human would accept us." Nighthan said with a smile.
"Avea, Neighthan, Sirena, Bonita. You are important people to me now, I know we barely know each other but I want us to be friends and get along." I said smiling, that made Avea and her friends smile too.
"We'd love to be your friends, Benja." Nighthan said with a smile.
"Benja, sorry if I made you wait too long. Are you ready to go?" Draculaura asked as she approached.
"Yeah sure. See you guys tomorrow." I said smiling as I said goodbye to Avea and her friends.
"See you tomorrow benja!" Sirena said with a big smile as she greeted me.
Maybe today I wasn't lucky enough to impress the other students, but what I know now is that I'm not alone. Now I have new friends here and I don't need to impress everyone, it will take some time for everyone to accept me. But still, I'm glad to know that I now have new friends. But besides being my friends, they are my new family here.
