Chapter 12:

Chrysalis's Reign

Back at the City Of Harmony, what was supposed to be a beautiful land full of life, is now nothing but a desolate gray wasteland. No one would imagine that this was once one of the most beautiful and well-off nations. Because most of the buildings in the kingdom have lost their colors, water sources have been dried up, and the sun hasn't been shining lately. Around the Castle Of Harmony, not many ponies were around for some of them have been made into slaves for the Diamond Dogs to dig up gems for them. It has been many years since the death of Aurora, since Chrysalis 'became' the new queen, and since Twilight has decided to start living the life of Hakuna Matata. And nothing is going right for the kingdom.

But a new problem has arisen in the City Of Harmony. Many of the ponies and Alicorns are having a hard time living in harsh conditions and many of them have been either made prisoners or slaves for the Diamond Dogs and some of them were driven out of their homes. At the Castle Of Harmony, Chrysalis has let the Diamond Dogs hunt for sports and has the ponies dig up diamonds and other gems for them. The problem is…everything is almost gone.

Inside the Castle Of Harmony, Chrysalis was relaxing on Aurora's throne, picking her teeth with a toothpick in her magic while Shining Armor was sitting inside a cage, a far cry from the position as Captain Of The Guard. He somberly started singing…

Shining Armor: Nopony knows the trouble I see.

Nopony knows my sorrow.

"Oh, Shining Armor do lighten up," Chrysalis said, throwing the toothpick at the cage as it clatters against the bars. Shining Armor glanced annoyingly at the queen as she gestured with her hoof and said, "Sing something with a little bounce in it,".

Shining Armor rolled his eyes and then started singing sarcastically…

Shining Armor { Singing Sarcastically }: It's a small world after all…

"No, no! Anything but that!" Chrysalis exclaimed, sitting up abruptly and interrupting him. That had to be her least favorite song.

Shining Armor thinks again and then holds up a hoof as a tune comes to him…

Shining Armor: I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts.

( Diddly-dee-dee )

There they are standing in a row.

Chrysalis is now starting to enjoy the song so much, that she decided to join in as she danced along…

Chrysalis: Bum, bum, bum, bum…

Shining Armor and Chrysalis: Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head…

While Chrysalis continues singing, Shining Armor groaned and muttered to himself, "Oh, I would never have to do this for Aurora or even little Twilight,".

Unfortunately for him, Chrysalis heard what he said and approaches the cage angrily as she said, "What?! What did you say, Shining Armor?!".

"Oh, you know, nothing," Shining Armor said, backing up and cowering under Chrysalis's anger as he covers his mouth with his hooves. He knows that he made a mistake. Hopefully he doesn't get punished for it.

"You know the law, Shining Armor. Never ever mention those names, especially that name, in my presence! Remember I…am…The Queen!" Chrysalis yelled, baring her teeth at Shining Armor.

Chrysalis's face was so close to the cage, that she sticks her muzzle through the bars and pushes Shining Armor against the walls of the cage.

"Yes, my liege, you are the queen. I…I…well, I only mentioned it to demonstrate your differences in your royal leadership approaches," Shining Armor said, standing up with a nervous laugh.

"Hey, boss!" a voice yelled.

Chrysalis looks to see Rover, Fido, and Spot coming inside the throne room and heading towards her, but they don't seem to be very happy. Chrysalis knows what this is going to be about. And it was always about complaints about the food and gems.

"Oh, what is it this time?" Chrysalis groaned as she strides away from the cage.

"We've got a bone to pick with you," Fido said as he, Rover, and Spot entered the throne room.

"Let me handle this," Rover said to Fido, then he turns to Chrysalis and said, "Chrysalis there's no food nor water,".

"Yeah, and worst of all, We ain't haven't found ourselves any more gems or diamonds! We're supposed to have them all!" Fido said, shaking his head in disappointment.

"Just force those Ponies and Alicorns to dig a little harder and then…" Chrysalis said, exasperating and making helpless gestures and expressions.

"But Chrysalis, they won't dig any deeper," Fido said.

"Oh, then use Shining Armor to dig for gems for you," Chrysalis groaned, pointing them to Shining Armor.

"Whoa, you wouldn't want me. I'm not a very strong stallion and I don't dig very well and…" Shining Armor said, waving his hooves dramatically and fearfully.

"Oh, Shining Armor, don't be ridiculous. All you need are some digging tools," Chrysalis chuckled.

While Chrysalis continues talking, Fido was whispering to Rover and Spot and said, "And I thought things were bad under her sister, Aurora,"

Unfortunately, Chrysalis heard that insult and said, turning angrily, "What did you say?!".

"I said Auror…," Fido was about to say until Rover interrupted him by thwapping him and smiled nervously. Trying to keep Fido from getting into trouble and reminding him what he's saying.

"Uh, I said…uh…Sora?" Fido said, changing the subject with a nervous smile of his own.

"Good. Now get out!" Chrysalis said with a glare.

The three Diamond Dogs started walking out past Chrysalis fearfully but then stopped at the entryway of the throne room for a moment when Fido looked back at Chrysalis and said, "Yeah, but…we're still hungry…,".

"OUT!" Chrysalis roared, and the Diamond Dogs quickly ran out of the Castle, with Spot laughing in fear.

Author's Note: Looks like the City Of Harmony has really gone down from peace and harmony to tragedy and chaos.

Ever since Aurora's death and Twilight's banishment, Chrysalis hasn't been doing so well running the kingdom as the new queen. Buildings have lost their colors, food and water has ran low, and the sun hasn't been shining either. Chrysalis has definitely destroyed the kingdom, and worst of all, she has allowed the Diamond Dogs to take over and turn the citizens into either slaves or prisoners.

And speaking of prisoners, Chrysalis has had Shining Armor in a cage, singing her some songs to entertain her, and reminded him to never mention the names of her deceased sister and her long-gone niece.

Even the Diamond Dogs know not to mention those names either.

So unless somepony can come to the Castle and challenge Chrysalis, all just might be lost for Equestria...or is it, really?...
