Chapter 6 (Sophie's POV)
A/N: Please don't judge me if this is horrible, I am kind of tired rn tbh.
When Biana and Dex got back from talking, they were holding hands. Huh. "Hey." I say, hoping that they will trust me enough to tell me. Biana looks at Dex, almost as if she is transmitting her thoughts to him. That's a soulmate thing. I wonder if they're soulmates. I don't know. Biana and Dex walk to the different groups. Right now, we are talking about who our soulmates could be and why.
Biana joins in eagerly, trying to figure out each of our soulmates from our things. "So, Biana." Marella begins. "What were you talking to Dex about?" "Oh, er, um, that…" Biana nervously says, but is interrupted by the Passer. "Everyone. Those of you who have older siblings and have heard how this works will be able to explain better to your friends, but for now I will explain."
"You will have a week to figure out your soulmate from your items." He continues. "Next week, you will come again and we will announce the pairs of soulmates. Remember, no one, not even me or the Announcer, knows who your soulmate is. The list will come next week."
Hmmmmm. I want to know who my soulmate is now. I don't want to wait a week. I remember Jolie saying the same thing, but then her and Brant figured it out the next day. "You have a week off of school so you can find your soulmate." The Passer finishes. "Your family might choose to travel, but it is most likely that your soulmate is in the same town as you right now." A murmur rises up from the crowd, while everyone glances around. "Enjoy your week off." The Passer exclaims and then walks off stage.
People start to leave, but I stay. I grab Biana's hand and whisper, "Bi, what happened with you and Dex? You can tell me, you know. I'm your best friend." I can tell she wants to. She hesitates for a moment, then opens her mouth to tell me. "Well, I have to check with Dex. One second." She walks away, but then stops, as if someone is talking in her head.
Soulmates. I called it.
"Okay." She says, turning around. "He says it's okay. We're soulmates." I almost can't hear the last part, but it's good to get confirmation that my suspicions were right. I squeal. "Bi! You found your soulmate! And it's Dex!" I'm so happy. "Yeah." She smiles. I'm getting through to her.
"I need details." I plead. "Well…" She mumbles. "Please?" I say, trying to give her my cutest puppy eyes. I don't have very cute puppy eyes. "Fine. If you stop doing…that." She responds, gesturing towards my face. "Come to my house. We can have a sleepover!" "I'll ask Grady and Edaline if it's okay." I say, almost giddy from the excitement. "Thanks!" I say.
"Sophie!" Jolie yells from inside her car. "It's time to go!" "Bye, Biana!" I exclaim. "I'll see you later." "Bye!" She replies.
I pull open the door and hop into Jolie's car, making sure the T-Shirt is folded nicely on my lap before turning to Jolie. "How'd it go?" She asks. "Good." I reply. "Biana found her soulmate." "Nice. Who is it?" Jolie questions. "Can't tell you." I say bouncing in my seat.
Jolie stays quiet for the rest of the drive. When we make it home, I rush out of the car, run through the door, and dash up the stairs. I run into my room and grab a nice purse that I can keep my thing in. You have to keep it with you at all times until you know who your soulmate is, or else. I don't know what happens, but something bad does.
"Edaline!" I yell, running downstairs. "Can I go to Biana's for a sleepover tonight?" I ask. "Sure." She says. "Sure." She pulls me into a hug, and I hug her back, glad to have such a great mom.
