Chapter 48 A league of their own
Its been a couple weeks since the League took down Darkseid once and for all and got a little more information on Grendel.
The only info that got from him before Sean killed him and took his skull was that he was the first.
Whatever that meant it meant something important.
Right now though.
"Mmm." Sean groaned as he was making some security programs on the last piece of Brainiac.
"Whats wrong? Missing a hot date?" Hawkgirl asked amused.
"Very funny. I can't believe I lost the vote on what to do with this thing. I thought even Clark would agree we should destroy it." Sean said.
"Well, to be fair there could still be useful intel on him that we could use. Better to have it than not. Like your saying on Nukes." Hawkgirl teased.
"Ok first of all a nuke is not sentient like this fucker is. That is a huge difference. Second of all I say that because of the constant threats we have. I mean look what happened during the invasion when we took them all out." Sean said.
"Fair." Hawkgirl said.
"Even they admitted those were the biggest threat against them. Besides. I have plans to make a different kind of nuke without the drawbacks." Sean said.
"Always plan ahead huh?" Hawkgirl asked.
"Duh." Sean said before an alert came up making them rush to the view room.
"What is it now?" Turok asked.
"Look!" Hawkgirl yelled seeing some energy surge heading right to them. "It's a cosmic superstring. It packs more energy than a solar flare." Hawkgirl said as Batman turned n the shields as they were hit making most fall over.
"Well that sucked." Reznov said.
"How bad is the damage?" Sean asked as Flash rushed out.
In the room where Brainiac's last piece was the security systems Sean put on deactivated giving him a chance to infect the system shutting down the alerts as Flash rushed in but saw nothing out of the ordinary before running back to the others.
"Everything seems to be ok." Barry said.
"Little late to say that." Sean said seeing they were heading right for Earth.
"If I run around the Generator I could generate enough electricity." Barry said.
"No. You could just as easily damage the core." Batman said.
"Well we need to charge it." Korra said.
"We can do that but On the off chance we might need some extra help I have someone in mind." Sean said pressing a button showing Static.
"Where is he?" Hawkgirl asked.
Meanwhile
Static and his partner and Friend Gear were facing off against some remaining Bang babies who refused to change when Ebon and the others did.
"Face it static. You can't beat us this time around." Puff said about to attack.
Only for someone to get in the way revealing to be the flash.
"You know something, Lady? You got an odor problem." Flash said.
Growling in rage she tried to attack when a wave of Water hit her making her cough.
Onyx tried next but Stun shots hit him making him fall over.
"AHHH!" Carmine yelled trying to escape when Hawkgirl hit him into a wall.
"These guys aren't even low ranking Villians. Just garbage." Reznov said as Beowulf and Batman dropped down.
"Beowulf." Static said flying down.
"Hey kid. Been a while." Beowulf said.
"What are you guys doing here?" Static asked.
"We need you to help out with a problem on the Watch Tower. We had a little incident with a power surge from space and it drained all the power and now it's falling down to here." Beowulf said.
"So I'm just a battery." Static said insulted.
"You rather it fell right here and kill the whole place?" Beowulf asked amused.
"Uh...Good point." Static said.
"Can I come with?" Gear asked excited.
"No." Batman said.
"Oh let him. But no pictures." Sage said making him groan.
Later
Static was charging up the core with Sean to make this go by faster.
"Oy!" Reznov yelled to Gear seeing him about to touch something he shouldn't. "Stay in the fucking corner. Americans." Reznov said rolling his eyes.
"I fucking heard that." Sean said.
Soon the station was coming back online as Batman activated the thrusters.
"We're good." Hawkgirl said.
While this was going on Gear pulled out a small camera but.
"And just what do you think your doing?" Karasuba asked with her sword at his neck making him gulp.
"Boy!" Reznov yelled.
"Enough." John said walking in.
"Ok kid take a break. Lantern will take over." Sean said.
"Good. I feel like a grilled patty." Static said making him chuckle before the alarms went off.
"Now what?" Korra asked.
"It's a distress call from Novalis 2. And Astroid swarm is threatening to collide with their planet." J'onn said.
"We'll handle that." Batman said.
"What about them?" Hawkgirl asked about Static and Gear.
"The tower isn't fully charged yet so they can stay." Sean said putting his mask on.
"I'll stay too. After the last time in space I think I'd like to avoid anything from another planet for a while." Turok said.
"Good." Batman said as they left.
Later
Turok smiled as he enjoyed a slice of pizza.
"So whats it like being the youngest member of the League?" Richie asked.
"Technically I'm not actually a member of the League. You have to be at least 17 to join." Turok said.
"But you are a founding member aren't you?" Virgil asked as he looked at a screen seeing a face. "Did you see that?" Virgil asked.
"What?" Turok asked before turrets inside started shooting them making them dodge. (I found it stupid there was a fucking door right outside the station. Who's dumb idea was that?)
"WHOA!" Static yelled as he started blasting them.
"What the hell?" Fang asked.
"Why is the Watch Tower shooting at us?" Richie asked.
"I have no idea. Let's get to the control to see if this was a dumb glitch. Not the first time." Fang said.
Arriving at the control room Turok tried to access it.
"It won't accept me in. The hell is going on?" Turok asked.
"Let me try." Gear said as he accessed the system. "This is weird. The Computer's firewalls are expanding." Gear said.
"They aren't supposed to do that. Something or someone is accessing our systems but..." Turok tried say before widening his eyes. "Oh shit." Turok said.
"What?" Gear asked.
"Brainiac! Show yourself I know you're there." Turok said.
"How very clever for the Brother of Beowulf." Brainiac said appearing on the screen.
"Thats the face I saw earlier on the screen. I know this guy. He's one of Superman's enemies." Static said.
"He used to be. What your seeing is thats left of him." Turok said.
"Indeed. After Darkseid destroyed my base and Kruger killing Darkseid I was only able to save a small piece of myself before my base exploded. Fate however allowed me to infect your system. And I have sent the League on a false mission." Brainiac said.
"So whats he gonna do?" Gear asked.
"Collect all information and then digitize the entire earth." Brainiac said as turrets started shooting them again.
Turok quickly pulled out a device before he started pressing it in a certain way.
Meanwhile
Sean got an alert from his communicator getting beeping sounds.
"The hell is that?" Hawkgirl asked.
"It's morse code. Mom taught me and Turok this incase of an emergency." Sean said.
"Whats he saying?" John asked.
"Mission is a fake and Brainiac is loose in the Tower. Oh for fucks sakes." Sean said as they went back.
Fang turned into a Rhino charging at a training robot the League used for training ramming his horn into it.
"I forgot how much I hate this guy." Turok said.
"How do we shut him out?" Static asked.
"We need to shut everything off. What I want you to do is Drain what you put into it." Turok said as they reached the core room.
Outside the League arrived before the tower started shooting at them.
"Not exactly what you had in mind when you had these installed did you?" Hawkgirl asked.
"Just go." Beowulf said as he flew to the Tower before phasing in.
Static and Turok tried to take Brainiac down but he wouldn't let them close enough.
"This isn't working." Turok said.
Thats when Gear got into the system before music played.
"The hell are you doing?" Turok asked.
"Downloading one song 100 billion times. It's crashing the tower's memory bank. Even he can't stand this." Gear said as he started freezing up.
"NOW!" Turok yelled as Static started draining the core.
"I...Am...Briiiiiiaaaaaaaniiiiiiaaaaacccc." Brainiac said slowly before shutting down.
"Nice." Beowulf said walking in.
Later
"That was rather interesting." Sean said to Static and Gear.
"Glad we could help." Static said.
"So how did Brainiac get loose anyway?" Gear asked.
"The same way our core was drained the first time. It must have deactivated all the security measures we put in place." Batman said.
"Doesn't matter now. Brainiac is finally defeated for good. Superman will be happy about that." Korra joked making Sean scoff.
Soon the League left while Richie and Virgil got ready to leave.
"You think my pops will understand I was late for dinner cause I had to save the world?" Virgil asked.
"Probably...Not." Richie said.
"Eh, then I'll just tell him it was your fault." Virgil said as he left.
Once Richie was done with some things he went to shut Backpack down.
Only for a hand to grab his.
"Hold up." Sean said grabbing it before it tried to attack him but couldn't.
"Hey, whats up?" Richie asked.
"Brainiac. I noticed right away that all our data was downloaded once we got back. I figured he was up to something." Sean said as he quickly deleted Brainiac for good.
"Oh...Thanks." Richie said.
"No problem. When you graduate why don't you take a job with my company here. You'd be pretty good." Sean said before they heard shrieking outside making him widen his eyes.
"Uh...Tell me that was not what I think it was." Richie said as he got geared up.
Rushing outside he saw Shriekers outside.
But these ones were different from the ones he killed before.
They had some red lines on them as they looked at him and shrieked.
"Uh...Batman?" Beowulf said.
"We know. We're on our way." Batman said on comms.
One charged right at Beowulf but he quickly sliced it in half.
Only for it to heal instantly making two of them.
"WHOA!" Beowulf yelled before they charged at him again as he flew up with his wings as Gear and Static showed up.
"Tell me these are not what I think they are." Static said.
"Shriekers. But these aren't the kind I know. These are new." Beowulf said as he blasted one with his Plasma Caster before it did the same thing as before. "You cut off a piece or kill it the damn thing just regenerates." Beowulf said as the League showed up.
Sage quickly burned one to ash and the results were permanent.
"Seems they can't come back if the body is completely destroyed." Batman said throwing an incendiary device on some making them scream as they burned to ash.
Beowulf blasted them with green flames making them scream in pain as they burned to ash leaving one left before it actually just died on it's own.
"What just happened?" Gear asked.
"Thats what we're gonna find out." Batman said.
Later
"This Shrieker has been modified from the originals you two killed in Mexico." Batman said.
"We can tell. How was it regenerating and making copies of themselves whenever a part came off or a fatal wound?" Korra asked.
"You remember the the Great whites you two killed in South Africa?" Batman asked.
"Yeah and Grendel got the blood sample. What of it?" Sean asked.
"It shows traces of that blood sample. Somehow he used it to make these new Shriekers. Same characteristics as the old ones with this new ability. But it's incomplete. This was most likely just a test." Batman said.
"Which means he's missing something to make this more successful." J'onn said.
"What is he planning to do? Make an army of these things?" Hawkgirl asked.
"No. Shriekers are dangerous sure but not that dangerous. All you need is a gun to kill one or something dangerous like a blade or something. My guess is this is only a small part of making an army. But not of shriekers...Something more dangerous." Sean said.
"And we need to find out what that is and quickly." Batman said.
Meanwhile
"Your little experiment failed." Darhk said to Grodd.
"Correction. The Test was to see the flaws. Which revealed instability In other words we need to have something to make these new Shriekers more...How should I say?" Grodd said.
"Stable?" Hunter asked.
"Yes. The blood work Grendel acquired from those fools in South Africa proved to have great potential. It just needs more requirements in order to get needed results." Grodd said.
"And just what do we need for that?" Savitar asked.
"I already have something in mind." Grendel said walking in.
"Still it did prove the shriekers had potential. They just need work." Grodd said.
"And we have plenty of time." Grodd said.
Meanwhile
Sean looked outside of Gotham in his penthouse with a frown.
"You ok?" Korra asked walking to him in the nude after waking up from a round of sex making him smile at her.
"Ah don't worry about me. Just thinking thats all." Sean said.
"About Grendel?" Korra asked.
"Course. The hell did I do to him to make him this angry at me?" Sean asked making her smile.
"Don't worry about it. We'll find out soon enough. Come back to bed." Korra said leading him to bed as they laid down before falling asleep.

I won't update again till Sunday night since I just wanna take a little break from writing since I've been at this for so long with little to no breaks.
