Hello everyone, finally after three months of waiting, I can establish my new story being precisely this; GUNDAM! More specifically a crossover between my 2 favorite series of this franchise; Gundam 00 and Gundam SEED Destiny.
It has put that they did not expect it, right? First of all, let me remind you that I said in the 29th episode of Bleach Zero: Strawberry and the Red Knight (English version) that this new project was going to be away from fantasy and focused on science fiction and stuff.
In case you don't know, I love science fiction a lot, as long as it added wick and action, of course. Well, of all the mecha stories I know, the one I like the most, like most of everyone, is without a doubt Gundam. This franchise has it all.
I could be talking about the various stories that Sunrise has been programming on Japanese television, but I don't want to talk about it. If you've already seen my profile, I'm sure you've seen the anime I've seen throughout my life (the ones I liked and caught my eye) until ending up in Fate in 2020. I'm still watching new anime and I have the list pretty forgotten, but I'll fill it out later. Anyway, what I meant is that of all the Gundam series I've seen (I still have to see the ones that came out recently) I can safely say that the ones I liked are Gundam SEED/Destiny and 00.
Now I'm going to talk about my opinion of both series and why I decided to do this crossover.
Well, let's start with Gundam SEED Destiny. I had already seen the first season (Gundam SEED) and I must admit that I quite liked the concept of Cosmic Era, its plot and theme, especially its characters. When I first saw it, I noticed that it bore some resemblance to the original 1979 series, albeit with an obviously different path and ambience.
Before watching the second season (SEED Destiny) I thought it would look similar to Zeta with the new protagonist, Shinn Asuka, who is my second favorite character in the franchise, taking the role of Kamille Bidan and so it was only until the end of the first part.
Even with the problems that Athrun had by the previous series and that this in particular seemed to be a pov of his, he still thought that Shinn would be the center of attention. When I saw the first episode, I was convinced that Shinn would be the hero of the story. And he was... until Kira came back into the spotlight and stole the series from him. The series was fast and action-packed at first, but that momentum was quickly lost until the end of the series. In each situation Shinn appears as an antihero, depending on Kira's presence.
In the end, he gets out of control that he even almost killed Lunamaria because he hated Athrun so much. The truth is that it was a shame, because at the beginning, Shinn and Athrun had a pretty good relationship with a mentor-apprentice vibe.
The next thing that bothered me quite a bit was that, during the last battle, even though both Shinn and Rey did their best to be able to defeat their respective adversaries, none of them could cause damage to both Kira and Athrun and simply only made them sweat and a little challenge for a few moments before being kicked around by the duo of previous protagonists. The most absurd thing about Rey is that he allowed herself to be defeated by Kira's simple words and later his preaching so that he have him turn on Durandal and shoot him instead of Kira.
However, the scene that confused and scandalized me the most was the strange attitude of Talia Gladys, captain of the Minerva, and a professional officer with strange emotions, for the fact of wanting to die next to Durandal at the end. I understand that the 2 of them haved had a relationship according to the flashbacks we saw, but even so that does not make sense to die especially when she has a young child to take care of.
In short, SEED Destiny had become a huge waste of potential due to incompetent direction and storytelling. It had potential that was completely wasted.
While I quite like Kira Yamato's character, but that doesn't mean I'm a Jesus Yamato fan by any means, one who believes he's the greatest Gundam hero and Strike Freedom is the greatest mecha of all time. No, I am by no means. Kira already had his moment of attention and glory throughout the first season and I don't understand why he does that again in the second if his character is already well developed. Heh, has put that Fukuda must have fallen in love with his character and as for Shinn he did not like it since according to his own words; He was a difficult character and he didn't want to talk too much about it. The truth is that I would not be surprised because he could not evolve and develop as a character.
I understand that surely most of you don't like Shinn's character because of his troubled personality and attitude, but those are flaws that would eventually improve over time, but it is seen that Fukuda did not want to be interested and keep him as antiheroic to make his 'Jesus Yamato' look better and be completely glorified.
Anyway, I would also like to add more flaws in this botched series, but I do not want to delay any longer with that.
Now I'll talk a little bit about Gundam 00.
Actually, I don't have any particular problems with this series. Gundam 00 was the first saga I saw quite some time ago shortly after Code Geass and I must admit that between them (Code Geass and Gundam 00) they have some things in common. The first season was quite entertaining with Celestial Being initiating its campaigns of interventions around the world drawing enough attention from the world and its attempt to end them.
The protagonist of the series, Setsuna F. Seiei, is my favorite character in the entire Gundam franchise, behind Shinn, although I also don't want to glorify him as God Seiei or anything like that.
As for the second season, I admit that I also had a pretty good time watching it, but it looked less entertaining than the first.
Okay, now I'll talk about why I'm going to do this crossover.
I've been thinking about doing this kind of crossover for a long time even while watching SEED Destiny and when I finished it, my desire to write a rewrite increased to make up for the shit that was the end. I had to use my imagination to know what the hypothetical scenes would be like and the idea of a story between 3 opposing factions: (for me the SEED Destiny canon is a scenario that revolved around 2 opposing factions; Minerva and the Archangel) Celestial Being, Minerva and later the Archangel. That is, Setsuna F. Seiei vs Shinn Asuka and vs Kira Yamato. The idea seemed good to pass up.
Another thing that motivated me was the fact of putting Setsuna and Shinn in the same story. As I said before, are my favorite characters. Both see each other as polar opposites because of their respective personalities, but both have several things in common. Both Setsuna and Shinn suffered more or less similar tragedies involving bloody wars in which they lost their respective relatives and left them scarred for life with a strong hatred for wars and the desire to end them.
Both are distrust and suspicious about political dealings and stuff because of their own respective experiences.
And lastly, they both join the military or a paramilitary organization and pilot Gundams.
In fact, these requirements would be enough to make Shinn a Gundam Meister if he hadn't joined the wrong faction. Call me weird if you want, but sometimes I see Shinn as a version of Setsuna, but impulsive, stubborn, arrogant and above all he is NOT a Gundam nut at all. Or at least my opinion. Either way, both will be in opposing factions and therefore will be bitter enemies throughout history, with Kira appearing later, although the latter prefers not to fight them.
Finally, if you have seen my profile, you will have noticed that I also have a story 'Gundam 00 SEED Destiny' written in Spanish. As I wrote there, this was my first written story and I was supposed to be writing it until I finished it since it's my favorite, but as my Spanish-speaking audience pays little attention to my story, while English speakers do get a lot of attention in every fanfic there is, especially Gundam, convinced me to do an-English rewrite. I hope you like it.
First of all I am going to clarify something about the reason for I creating this crossover. While the story I'm going to do arises as a result of my disgust for SEED Destiny's canon ending, but that's not why I'm going to create a whole recap of SEED Destiny until an alternative battle of the Messiah.
My idea is to create a merged universe between both franchises very similar to Armed Intervention of the Bloody Valentine by animefan29, except that instead of starting in the attack of Heliopolis, the story begins in Armory One.
The main inspirations to make this fanfic I took from;
SEED00: Tales of the Siblings Valentine's War by Jman12394
Armed Intervention of the Bloody Valentine by animefan29
Enigmatic Fate by Zennelia
Mobile Suit Gundam Seed-RAISER by QuantumExia
Fates Crossed by writeupbro
Gundam 00 SEED by L1feGo3s0n
Gundam SEED: The Solar War by blind-dead-mcjones
