Forgive the delay, but I was taking advantage of the time to make the other chapters. Well, here I start with the first chapter that will be long. Enjoy.
On reviews:
Kipussan: Thanks for letting me know, buddy. I should be more attentive when trying to translate a language and not miss a single detail. Thank you so much.
Dontus -no Donut- Powerus: It's not exactly what you think. The G-Weapons are not the predecessors of the Celestial Being Gundams, rather the opposite. If you're feeling confused as to how the heck Morgenröte managed to copy the Celestial Being Suits (except for a GN Drive) and add new elements such as Phase Shift armor and beam weapons, you'll have to read it later because I won't post spoilers.
What I can tell you is that Veda copied several elements from Project G to add them to its 3nd generation Gundams that you will see later.
While I do agree that Phase Shift armor would be ineffective against a point blank direct attack by a beam and even more so if they have limited energy, unless they are nuclear powered to last much longer. In any case, the 3ds generation Gundams will also have their own Phase Shifters including their GN energy shields to further bolster their defenses.
Lastly, as to why Setsuna's parents turn him a Coordinator, Setsuna is actually a second generation Coordinator. If you're asking why the hell Setsuna's parents (both Coordinators) stayed in Middle East even with the risk of being hunted down by any radical anti-Coordinator group, you'll find out later.
Anyway if you ask why I decided to MAKE Setsuna a Coordinator it was for 3 reasons. One was because I wanted to, the second was so that there would be a Coordinator in the Gundam Meisters cast, and the third, well, you'll have to read it later.
Chapter 1: Angry eyes and cold eyes
07/03/2023
5 years later
After 2 and a half years of fighting in the so-called "Bloody Valentine's War" it came to an end in the year 71 of the Cosmic Era. Amid the ruins of Junius Seven, a place of unparalleled tragedy, the former enemies pledged to work for mutual understanding, and to make every effort possible to maintain peace. As a result, Earth was once again on the path to stability.
Or so it seemed.
In the united front presented by the Earth Alliance, old quarrels began to resurface. A new arms race was waged between the Union, AEU and HRL for control of solar energy. Despite the best efforts of peacebuilders and conciliators on both sides, mutual fear, suspicion and hatred threatened to tear the Earth Alliance apart. The breaking of one scandal after another, as the misdeeds of the Union towards its allies were made public, served to sabotage efforts at reconciliation.
By 76 CE, tensions between the 3 economic powers continued to rise, with each nation developing new and improved Mobile Suits, and these began to pressure Orb for military and industrial cooperation. In this situation, Cagalli Yula Attha, the Chief Representative of Orb Union made a last, desperate effort to stop the oncoming cataclysm. But as history has shown so many times, one's power is indeed finite.
Date: February 4, 76 CE
Location: Armory 1 - ZAFT Territory - Lagrange 4 - Earth Orbit
Located far from the 119 colonies that make up the PLANT homeland, the steel-and-glass hourglass-shaped colony Armory One had first been constructed in CE 72 as a military arsenal. Since then, it had served as the primary testing ground and development facility for all new technologies created by the Integrated Design Bureau - the PLANTs' sole arms manufacturer, formed by a merger of Martius Arsenals, Maius Military Industries, and the Asimov/Heinlein Design Bureau. It was IDB who developed the vehicles, weapons and mobile suits that equipped ZAFT, the nation's militia, as well as equipment for the colonies' civilian police forces.
It was here that, in CE 74, a complete restructuring of ZAFT's mobile weapons forces had been undertaken, under the project name "New Millennium". Its objective was to overhaul ZAFT to maximize its combat capability while respecting the force limits set by the Treaty of Junius Seven at the end of the Bloody Valentine War two and a half years earlier.
Throughout Armory One, preparations continued at a frantic pace for the ship's upcoming launch. On the base, a military jeep was moving rather swiftly through the compound being driven by a 16-year-old brown boy and a girl of the same age next to him with the short purplish-red hair. She was dressed in a red military uniform with black stockings. She was enjoying the feeling of the wind rushing through her red hair.
Suddenly the young driver's face was a little horrified to see that he was in the path of the leg of a Mobile Suit. He quickly turned the steering wheel to avoid crashing, the girl was startled and at the same time annoyed.
"What the hell!? Everything seems to be in one big mess!" She complained, somewhat angrily. She looked back at the Mobile Suit, an aging relic of the Bloody Valentine War.
"It can't be helped. It's been a while since we've done something like this." Vino said with an optimistic tone as he kept driving. "Like us, many of the guys are doing this for the first time."
As he kept driving, the jeep approached a large hangar that contained a huge, sleek elongated, heavily-armed and armored spacecraft. The craft was colored in a mostly opaque-gray scheme and some red reflections, especially the lower part which was practically covered in red. It also has several accents of orange along its bow and bridge tower. It was equipped with a large pair of swept-back wings, although these were currently folded along its side. Cannons bristled along her entire upper side, facing both fore and aft.
This particular ship was the most recent and powerful vessel ever built to date. The crown jewel of the New Millennium Project, soon to be the flagship of ZAFT's entire military force; The trans-atmospheric assault carrier LHM-BB01 Minerva, the first new battleship to be launched since the end of the war.
"But this means that the Minerva will finally launch."
After a little while the jeep finally reaches the foot of the base.
"I wonder if we'll be assigned to lunar orbit, as rumored." Lunamaria said as she got out of the jeep. "And where's is Shinn anyway?"
"I think he went shopping with Yolan." Vino answered. "They wanted to bring a lot of food before the Minerva flight."
At this, Luna let out a soft sigh of annoyance when she knows that her companion from the military academy is escaped of his job along with Yolan to go buy. This made her really a little angry, since she also wanted to get away from work and go shopping with her sister. But what bad luck she had. So both youngs continued walking by the armory to see the Mobile Suits.
While this was happening, a VTOL had begun descending on an heliport full of purple officers at their posts. The VTOL landed, not long after, the helicopter door opened and the current chairman of PLANT, Gilbert Durandal, emerged, who is escorted by the officers to a base. Many other soldiers who saw the chairman's arrival decided to greet him and show their respects. Among them was a teenager with a blonde mane and it was a Red Uniform, looking at him with great admire. Durandal noticed the presence of the young man and decided to smile back.
The space shuttle had docked at one of the colony's civilian ports. However, this ferry was not for public use, and rather was for political use. The first to emerge were a couple; a woman and a man, both 21 years old.
The woman is a tall young woman with blonde hair that runs along the shoulders and back slightly, wears 2 orb-earrings, red lips and dressed in a purple office suit that matches her pants. Her male companion (a few centimeters taller) had a stocky appearance, slim build and calm expression with a navy blue bangs, sunglasses that hide his eyes, and dresses in a somewhat informal outfit in contrast to his companion being a black jacket and gray pants.
Both floated because of the low gravity that was in this section of the colony, although they had no problem in crawling until they stopped in front of 2 officers dressed in purple uniforms who immediately began to escort the couple out of the port and immediately the 4 were walking through a transit tube in the direction of the main terminal of the colony to meet Chairman Durandal and hold a conference or negotiate regarding the rearmament of ZAFT and the tensions it was causing on Earth.
Alex Dino tried not to be nervous in the midst of all this tension of returning to his old homeland since the war ended 5 years ago and never expected to return here. He hoped that his deadpan and neutral young man's facade, as well as his glasses covering his eyes, would help him go unnoticed by the other PLANT Coordinators, not to mention his new name.
Fortunately there was no familiar face among the people and soldiers of the army able to recognize him, and he prayed silently that not even the new Chairman of PLANT could do it when they saw each other as well. However, that was not what worried him at the moment. Raising his head slightly to the front, he looked at the blonde woman who accompanied being nothing more and nothing less than the current Representative of Orb, Cagalli Yula Attha, daughter of Uzumi Nara Attha, and current head of the noble house Athha, moving with a small hand grasping the handle of the travel rail while pulling it.
However, what caught he attention was the dress she was wearing for this occasion on her first foreign diplomatic mission being a formal outfit of a minister of the Orb government, which in the opinion of the blue hair man, was too modest for the occasion. He couldn't help but let out a sigh before speaking.
"Are you sure that attire will do?" He asked quietly, but just loudly enough for her to hear him. "Tell me you at least brought a dress."
"Why should it matter what I wear?" Cagalli demanded, half-turning her head to glance angrily at him. "This'll do, won't it?"
"It's important to do a little acting at times." Alex signed again when he saw the look she was giving him. "You understand, don't you? There's no need to try to be something you're not."
Then he stepped forward to her to look at her face directly, she gave a defiant look.
"Although this is an unofficial visit, you are still the current ruler of Orb."
She quickly looked away from him and they continued on they way to the meeting point with the chairman. At that moment they both entered the elevator. Alex smiled softly as he placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder before changing the subject.
How come you want to meet with the Chairman anyway? This meeting does seem kind of sudden." Alex said with curiosity.
"It was the only time that I could find to meet with him as he is always so busy. I want to talk about him with all the reports I have been getting about the building up of ZAFT military power during times of peace. I am afraid if this continues that it will shatter the peace we have worked so hard to create." Cagalli replied with a trembling, gloomy tone as she clenched her fists tightly.
"I see." Alex frowned. He understood what she was trying to say, but didn't know if that was something she really had to criticize ZAFT about as Orb had been keeping their own updating their own forces with all the new technology that had come about in the past year and a half.
"The last thing we need is another war to start. So many were lost in the last one and we still haven't fully recovered from that. Another war would just cause more pointless deaths," said Cagalli grimly.
She could still remember the look on her father's face as he pushed her into the shuttle while he stayed behind and burned down with Orb just to prevent the Earth Forces from obtaining their Mass Driver.
Orb had been rebuilt, but there was still much work to be done and she would not watch as her nation was dragged into another war. No matter what, she would do whatever it took to keep her nation safe and not let it fall ever again.
The two couldn't say anything more when they reached the lower floor and the doors opened. The journey from the spaceport to the Military HQ, from which the Colony was governed, took less than an hour. It consisted of taking an elecar (colonial electric vehicle) that led them to the headquarters. Upon arrival they were brought to the main meeting room, which was generally used for such functions. As the door slid open, the room was revealed to be large and airy, with a long gallery window offering an excellent view of the colony hemisphere.
As soon as they entered, they came face to face with PLANT chairman Gilbert Durandal, who was waiting to greet them.
"Princess, it is an-honor to finally meet you." Durandal smiled warmly. Alex noticed the Chairman glance at him and kept his face neutral so that no one would recognize him.
Durandal reached out to her in a welcoming gesture. "I am the Chairman of the Supreme Council, Gilbert Durandal. It is an-honor to have the Orb Representative."
"Chairman Durandal." Cagalli shook her proffered hand he offered. "Thank you for agreeing to see me at such short notice. I understand it must have caused you great inconvenience."
"Not at all." Durandal gestured to a pair of chairs, placed strategically by the window. Cagalli sat in one, and Durandal in the opposite, their respective followers gathering behind them.
"How are things in your country? Actually, since you became Chief Representative, many problems have been solved." Durandal went on, his tone oozing charm and sincerity. "As an ally and friend, sincerely makes me happy, as well as some zeal."
"I still have a lot of work to do." Cagalli replied self-effacingly.
"Yes. And under those circumstances, I cannot help but wonder what would be so urgent that you would rush out here at such short notice. Our ambassador has told me that you wish to discuss some complex issues with us."
"Personally," Cagalli replied, "I don't consider them complex. The main issue is the breakdown in relations between the Union, the AEU and the HRL. Not only have you failed to state the PLANTs position openly, but you have engaged in actions that can only be interpreted as encouraging the split. At the beginning of this year you personally approved a program of military reform and expansion, making use of human and technological resources that left Orb during the Union's invasion."
"I will not deny that we are engaging in a revamp of ZAFT," Durandal replied, apparently unruffled by Cagalli's tone. "Forgive me, but I fail to see your point as to how this is exacerbating the problem."
"As I said, it's not complex!" Cagalli's eyes flashed, and her aides looked nervous. "You're rearming ZAFT while the Earth Alliance is falling apart! There's only one way the nations of Earth can interpret that! Don't you realise you're making a war more likely!"
A shiver ran through the room. Alex wondered if any of the purple-coated staff officers behind Durandal would say anything. The man himself seemed entirely unconcerned. His demeanour was of someone dealing graciously with a difficult child.
"I can understand your point of view, Princess. I have no doubt that the Union is making life difficult for you at the moment, a state of affairs that must be especially unsettling considering your nation's… history with that particular superpower."
"There's another issue." Cagalli continued, letting go of Durandal's frivolity. "They not only accused Orb of assisting in your rearmament, they also accused both us and ZAFT of sending military personnel to Céilan, in order to help the Sinhalese against the Tamils who are being backed by HRL. What do you have to say to that, Chairman?" Durandal's eyes widened a little in magisterial surprise.
"Very little I'm afraid, Princess. While I cannot deny that some PLANT citizens have seen fit to involve themselves in that particular contention, I am hardly in a position to stop them."
"Don't condescend to me!" Cagalli snapped, her fury sending another shiver through the assembled functionaries. "You know that the Union will respond to any attempt at secession with armed force! If that happens the Advanced European Union and the Human Reform League will deploy their own forces, and you know as well as anyone what could happen!"
Exterior of the colony
Unknown to ZAFT personnel, in the depths of space three machines flew at a respectable speed, closing in on Armoury One. The three were completely invisible to radar, which was disrupted by their passing, and had a miniscule thermal signature, making them almost invisible to any thermal observer. They were visible only to those who used their eyes and then all they saw was a trail of green-white light particles.
The three machines were Mobile Suits, one painted white with a blue torso and had a folded sword equipped to its right arm, one painted white and green equipped with a long-barreled rifle, and finally a larger machine painted white with a black torso and equipped with a massive bazooka in its hands.
Inside the cockpit of the blue Gundam, its pilot, who wore a blue pilot suit (matching his Gundam) with a gray bulletproof vest, stared in complete silence at the monitor screen in view of the target.
'Gundam...'
Inside of the colony
The population of Armoury One was about three hundred thousand, of which just less than one quarter were active members of ZAFT in one capacity or another. However, the rest were made up of the soldiers' relatives, researchers, engineers and bureaucrats who resided there as normal civilians, who walk and talk quietly on the sidewalks and parks. The cars were driving normally and the whole atmosphere was calm like any normal day.
In the middle of this urban center, a small group of 3 young adolescents made up of 2 boys and a girl casually walked along a sidewalk as if they were sightseeing, but in reality that was simply a cover to go unnoticed among the population. The girl is a 16-year-old girl with blonde hair, amethyst eyes, and was casually dressed in a blue dress with hardly any shoulder pads, leaving her shoulders exposed and also featuring white baggy sleeves. Her dress extends down into a white skirt that reaches to her knees.
Said girl stopped seeing her own reflection in a window of a clothing store, and her eyes fell on a dress on display. She paused for a moment and then did a graceful pirouette, with her skirt and sleeves waving. She stopped, looking at her feet, as if admiring her shoes. This caught the attention of her companions, who turned their heads to see her.
"What's she doing?" Asked blue-haired Auel Neider.
"Acting like a merry fool." Replied green-haired Sting Oakley, amused by the girl's antics. "You should do it too. Go on and be a fool."
The girl leaned in closer to the window, seemingly entranced by her reflection. There was the familiar blonde hair reaching to her chin, the bright maroon eyes, and the round, somewhat child-like face.
Stella Loussier giggled, pleased by her prettiness. Her spirit soared, and she began to twirl along the street, arms spread wide. She laughed as she span, revelling in the simple joy of it.
And then she hit someone.
She felt her back strike something, and she knew that something to be a person, because it grunted in surprise. Its arms came around her, holding her steady, the hands closing over her breasts.
"Are you all right?" The voice was young, male. As the momentary surprise wore off, Stella turned her head to look at him. She saw a handsome, somewhat boyish face framed with black hair, wearing a look of mild surprise. His red eyes were wide.
Stella's face twisted in irritation, her good humour lost. She broke away from the bewildered youth and ran off down the street. The boy stared after her, wondering what he had done wrong.
"You grabbed her breast, didn't you?" Sneered his companion, leaning forward to leer at him.
"Huh!" Shinn Asuka looked down at his hands, only then realising just where they had gone. His face reddened with embarrassment.
"You lucky pervert." Yolant Kent mocked. The dark-skinned youth gave Shinn a dismissive flap of his hand as he strolled away.
"I didn't... Hey! Come on!" Shinn bent down to repack his dropped shopping bag, then hurried after his friend, protesting his innocence all the way down the street.
"Yolant!"
Durandal had decided to take a tour of the Armory One Base. As Cagalli and Durandal talked, Alex couldn't help but notice the plethora of new Mobile Suits. Including new ZAKUs. He couldn't help but wonder how close ZAFT came to violating the Junius Seven Treaty.
"Princess, you are a very brave woman who has experience piloting a Mobile Suit during the last battle 5 years ago." Durandal praised as he led the way through the open space between two rows of Mobile Suits hangars. Cagalli walked next to him, Alex behind, while the Chairman's bodyguards formed a loose cordon. "There's no doubt you're a veteran at this."
She and her bodyguard ignored the Chairman's words to look at the Mobile Suits present in the hangar. He recognized all of them, for he had kept himself abreast of such developments, but some were more familiar than others. There were plenty of GINNs about, though even Jane's Mobile Weapons was calling them old hat. He could see GuAIZes, successors to the GINN with the same distinctive head crest. There were one or two DINNs, and an enormous yellow-painted GAZuOOT that looked as if it could take on an army by itself.
Also, you are the successor of Uzumi Nara Athha, the lion of Orb, who endured the pressure to the end and carried out the ideals of his country." The Chairman stopped suddenly, turning to face his guest.
"So how should we act given the current state of the world? I'm sure you know the answer to that very well."
"We will protect and maintain the ideals of our nation." Cagalli replied gravely
"We will not invade another nation..." Durandal spoke with the same gravity as he recited Orb's founding creed. "...We will not allow another nation to invade us... and will not intervene in the conflicts of other nations."
"That's right."
"We believe the same as well." Durandal said with a sincere smile.
"That is the best possible situation. But it is not possible without power. I'm sure, Princess, that you would also... no... you would understand this fact even better. I'm sure you can understand this, princess. The best course for our two nations is to stay on the sidelines, but to maintain our neutrality, we both need military power. And that's why Orb is making weaponry too, am I right?"
"Please do me a favor and stop calling me a princess."
"Please forgive me, Chief Representative Athha." Durandal bowed in apparent repentance. They walked on in silence for a few moments.
Then they walked again in silence for a few moments.
"But I have to ask you something." Durandal broke the silence. "What exactly are you afraid of?"
"Of course you are under pressure from the Union, though their accusations are completely unreasonable. The refugees we took in from Orb had to make a living somehow, as I'm sure you understand. But it occurs to me, Chief Representative, that you must be used to such behaviour by now. Is it something else?"
Cagalli clenched her fists. The relations between Orb and the Union had reached a delicate stage. She had hoped that she could convince Durandal to stop using Orb technology for military purposes, which would get the Union off their back.
A hand introduced the monitor of one of the military garrisons, causing the doors to open automatically before 5 figures, which, 3 of them are the teenagers of before; the boys green-hair and blue-hair respectively, and the blonde girl, while the other 2 are adults dressed in military uniforms of ZAFT. The 5 sneaked into the hangar without attracting the attention of the staff inside until they took refuge in a corner where they had a good view of a series of Mobile Suits and several soldiers and engineers without being aware of the intrusion of the hangar, let alone what will happen to them next.
Once they had calculated the number of military personnel and had conjured up their surprise attack plan, they began to draw their weapons ready to attack. Sting loaded 2 submachine guns 'Raptor', Auel an M-37 assault rifle and Stella only took out a very sharp dagger and she drew a stern look while looking at her murder weapon ready to slaughter.
"But if power grows too much, it will lead to another conflict!" Cagalli argued before stopping.
Without warning, the 5 intruders came out of hiding and rushed into the open hangar area. Several soldiers and mechanics slowly turned around to see who was there, only to be caught off guard and killed when the intruders frantically began firing their respective weapons towards the security detachment catching them off guard. Wielding two 'raptor' sub machine guns Sting took well placed shots at the guards on the upper left Auel with a single M-37 assault rifle shot the right and Stella took the middle by slit the throats of the rest of the guards with a deadly speed and accuracy.
The carnage was incredible with the soldiers caught off guard by this unexpected attack who could hardly do anything to fight back or defend themselves. The attackers attacked without pause and without mercy with ruthless speed and precision until after a few moments since they began, there were no soldiers standing.
They had all died, and the only ones left were the intruders.
"No, princess." Durandal said shaking his head with a smile. "Power is neccesary because there will always be conflict."
With everything over, silence reigned again inside the hangar with the ground covered by several corpses of soldiers and engineers alike and some bleeding from the open hole in their throats. The assailants painstakingly ensured that no survivors were in sight, and once secured, the green-haired boy, who appeared to be the leader of the gang, beckoned his companions to move on to the next phase of their plan.
The 3 gathered in front of half of the only 3 Mobile Suits that was being stored at the back of the hangar. Upon inspection, these giants, nearly twenty meters in height and colored in shades of dull gray metal were indeed the same machines that the trio had studies earlier. Without delay, they went their separate ways, and started to climb towards the cockpits of the Mobile Suits.
Sting was the first to arrive at his machine and, upon activation, the main monitor display of the cab displayed the anagram of the operating system Generation Unrestricted Network Drive Assault Module, as well as the serial number of the unit: ZGMF-X24S Chaos. The blue-haired boy's MS was labeled the ZGMF-X31S Abyss and the blonde girl was the ZGMF-X88S Gaia.
"How's it look?" Sting asked on the radio while still activating the Chaos. "This thing works pretty well just as we were told."
"Okay. It's exactly how they put it in the reports." Auel answered over the radio as he turned on his MS controls.
"All's good." Stella replied in a monotonous voice.
"Starting quantum catalysis." Sting began talking while running the controls "Power flow satisfactory."
"All armor activate. All weapons accessible." Auel continued while typing and watching the monitor.
"System operating on "combat status."" Stella followed.
With that, each MS's eyes lit up in different colors. Then they began to rise as if they had come alive until they were standing. Each of them activated the Phase-Shift armor, revealing their natural color; green, blue and black.
The green MS was equipped with two large blades on it's feet and also featured upper claws on each of the lower legs knees, as if they could work in tandem with the lower ones to take hold of something. Aside from that, there was a beam rifle stored on the suit's back skirt armor, and a pair of beam sabers stored in each side skirt, however it looked as if these sabers could not combine together. Above the head of the Suit was a horn, like the nose of a plane, with small cannon emitter hidden on the backside of it. The real strong feature to this Suit were the large, winged engine pods on either side of the Mobile Suit's backpack, stretching out behind it's square shaped shoulders.
The blue MS had a rather unusual appearance even in these times as it mounted engines fit for underwater propulsion on the back of it's uniquely shaped knees. The cockpit hatch was a bit lower then a usual mobile suit's because smack dab in the middle of it's chest was a large beam cannon, more simplified than that of the Calamity, mounted between each of it's chest vents. Stored on the back of this machine was a large lance-like weapon that was equipped with a small beam emitter on the end of it. Near this staff was a pair of cannons which looked like the Freedom's Plasma guns, only downsized. Much like the Chaos though, this machine had a strong feature on it's side, in the form of two shell like structures. While not strictly for defense, each of these sections outer surfaces looked as of they would be suitable real estate for the placement of anti-beam coating. Also on the outside of each shell was a pair of long artillery cannons pointing towards the ground alongside a pair of holes that resembled torpedo tubes greatly. Inside each shell were three beam emitters lining the inner hulls.
Finally, the ZGMF-X88S Gaia was as exclusive as its siblings. It's legs bore no armaments, but like the Chaos, it had two individual beam sabers mounted on it's side skirts. A pair of large thrusters were mounted on this machine's shoulders, and two thin metal beam cannons were placed behind the head of the suit like the MA-4B "Fortis" Beam Cannon of the Justice Gundam. However the similarities between the Gaia and the destroyed red Mobile Suit would now cease, for on the back of the mobile suit were a pair of large wings equipped with many powerful thrusters but bent downwards, as if they were meant to fold upwards during a transformation. Directly behind the human-shaped head of the suit was an animal-like head greatly resembling a BuCUE's.
The newly activated MS began to walk preparing to attack the Armory by surprise. However, little to the thieves knowledge, one last engineer had lived through their bloody assault, and was trying as hard as he could to make his way to the control panels on the other side of the building. He was very badly wounded and bloody. When the man took his last breath, he pressed the huge red button on the control panel. After that last move, the entire base was filled with the sound of a siren when the emergency alarm sounded, breaking the peace that was Armory One.
The entire military sector of the Armory abruptly stopped its daily activities upon hearing the alarm ringing throughout the place causing all personnel including the president and his guests to start looking up, left and right in all directions to discover what was causing this alarm. However, they never had time to find out before when there was a strong internal explosion in one of the hangars produced by several green laser beams that crossed the area up to 2 Mobile Suits at the entrance of another hangar, destroying everyone on the spot along with its residents.
Durandal, Cagalli and everyone else could only watch in horror as the hangers exploded. Alex pulled Cagalli to the ground as a group of ZAFT soldiers did the same for Chairman Durandal. Shielding them from the force of the blast and flying debris.
Then from the explosion of the first hangar emerged the 3 stolen Gundams. Everyone was stunned and at the same time horrified by these events.
"Chaos! Gaia! Abyss!" Shouted a soldier nearby, looking in horror and confusion at the MS.
He didn't have time to finish the sentence when he saw that 2 of the stolen Gundams; the Gaia and the Abyss separated in opposite directions, each attacking a sector. The Gaia headed left, starting with a flying leap. But unlike its blue counterpart, the black one began to change, its torso rotating and limbs folding as it came down. It landed in a quadrupedal configuration, much like the BcCUE. It galloped towards a nearby hangar, the beam rifle at its flank spitting green particle bolts through the open door. The bolts tore into the stationary mobile suits, blasting open their armoured torsos and detonating their batteries.
The Abyss one did likewise, firing the guns set into its split-ovoid wings. The Chaos stood still, letting loose a flurry of missiles from the pods behind its shoulders. The missiles whistled as they flew, spreading out over a row of three untouched hangars. The only sound was the constant roar of explosions.
The entire military sector went into a state of alert immediately after this pre-emptive attack. Many pilots boarded their available MS to intercept the attackers.
"They're the new models from Hangar Six!" An anonymous soldier shouted as he ran past Durandal and Cagalli. "Someone's taken them!"
"What did he say!?" Durandal exclaimed in disbelief and puzzled.
"New models?" Cagalli asked bewildered.
Before anyone could speak, the blue one stepped into view, crimson malevolence gushing from the beam emitter in its torso. The blast wave blew the smoke away, and Alex could see the Mobile Suit clearly. He could make out the green eyes, the face, the golden crest on its brow.
"It's a..." Alex began.
"A Gundam..." Cagalli finished in a dry voice.
"What is the meaning of this? Stop them, right NOW!" Durandal ordered his men the remaining military soldiers scrambled to mend the situation.
Another hanger exploded as it was destroyed by the Chaos's missiles, and then another by Abyss' side cannons.
"Take the Representative to the shelter!" Durandal hissed to one of his bodyguards.
Said bodyguard nodded obediently before heading towards the couple.
"This way!" The bodyguard motioned for the couple to follow him. Cagalli and Alex held hands as they ran after the bodyguard.
Once the pair left with the bodyguard, Durandal turning to his officers with a look of determination. "We've gotta stop them no matter what it takes! Contact the Minerva and ask for backup!"
The couple and the guide ran down another road between two more hangars. A GINN stood in front of them, bringing up its rifle, but too late as the Chaos descended upon it. Alex saw the beam saber in its hand, saw the glowing blade ignite.
"Cagalli!" Forgetting the bodyguard, he pushed Cagalli sideways towards one of the hangars. He pushed her through and around the open doorway, pressing her to him as the GINN exploded. He felt the familiar heat of the blast wave, and the pain in his ears.
As his genetically-engineered constitution recovered, Athrun glanced around the door frame, Cagalli at his side. The green one had moved on, and there was no sign of the bodyguard. He looked back and forth, seeking a safe path.
"This way!" He grabbed Cagalli's hand and ran back the way they had come. For a second it seemed as though they might escape, only for the black one to appear from around the corner. Alex and Cagalli froze, but the quadruped mecha did not seem to have noticed them. Gunfire pattered over its black armour, and the Mobile Suit leapt into the air. Alex saw his chance, pulling Cagalli behind a nearby supply truck.
Outside of the colony
Meanwhile, the 3 mysterious Gundams with particle thrusters arrived at their designated destination being already a few meters from the space colony. From there, they stopped and their pilots began to plan their strategy of breaking into the place.
"Alright, you know how the plan works." The pilot of the burly Gundam said while contacting with his teammates. "You and Setsuna will infiltrate the colony while I stay outside to intercept the external forces when the time comes, is it clear?"
"Roger!" Both pilots responded obediently as their respective Gundams separated from their partner to enter the colony. The burly stood motionless in place while its pilot watched as his partners moved away from him to go deeper and deeper into the colony. For his part, he will wait patiently here until the enemy to wreak havoc among the main forces of the colony and then he will intervene on both sides.
"Virtue, going into standby." Declared the purple pilot Tieria Erde as the Gundam GN-005 Virtue remains in sleep mode.
Inside of the colony
Minerva
Far away from the Armory One conflict but still inside the base, the huge opaque gray ship with red reflections, the Minerva, still rested on its hanger, but the crew inside the large dome-shaped command bridge did not miss the chaos that was occurring outside.
Captain Talia Gladys, a single and attractive woman in her twenty-nine, short blond hair and wearing a white ZAFT uniform that matched her commissary cap got up from her personal seat and turned to her lieutenant who was standing beside her.
"Arthur, send the Impulse immediately." Captain Talia ordered the ship's executive officer, Arthur, a man in a black uniform and short green hair and a somewhat sickly expression.
"Yes, ma'am." Arthur said obediently before turning his attention to the operators. "Contact Shinn and tell him you have permission to use the Impulse right away."
"Impulse, standby for takeoff. Pilot, proceed to Core Splendor." The Minerva operator, Meyrin Hawke, spoke into a mic, her voice transferring to the spacious hanger that was placed inside the heart of the Minerva, while a young, thin, tall man in a red ZAFT pilot suit, helm and all, quickly ran forward and jumped inside a small craft that was positioned in the middle of a white platform. "Sword Module selected. Opening Silhouette Hangar two." A door in the bay opened and a module that was to fit on a mobile suit's back, consisting really of a main body with two large anti-ship blades and devices resembling beam boomerangs, was slowly removed from the compartment.
"Silhouette Flyer, standby for takeoff. Platform setup complete. Central catapult, online. Opening airtight shutters. Raise central catapult to launch position!" Meyrin continued as the platform which the pilot's module was on moved up and faced the sealed doorway of the ship.
"Core Splendor, all systems online. Commencing takeoff sequence. Hatch opened. Linear launch system engaged. Catapult power levels normal. Course clear."
The central catapult of the Minerva opened, and the main steering wheel the pilot had entered was preparing to launch from the ship. "Core Splendor, launching!"
With that order, the fighter called Core Splendor began to move at high speed through the walkway and eventually emerged from the Minerva rising through the sky. Not long after, the rest of the Core Splendor's team also emerged from the catwalk, one after the other and everyone is heading for battle.
Meanwhile, Alex and Cagalli continued to run in the midst of the chaos that was once the peaceful military armory now turned into a fierce battlefield like the one 5 years ago except that, instead of being invaded by military forces, it was being attacked by apparent terrorists who boarded 3 new models of Mobile Suits exclusive to the Armory and were using them to attack the garrisons.
The sound of explosions and laser shots were still so ubiquitous throughout the place and there were also many destroyed hangars that made it difficult for the couple to pass and orient themselves around the place. They were trapped like rats.
It was then that, in a moment of desperation, Alex turned around, and saw a green-painted ZAKU Warrior lying on the ground behind them. It was right near a downed hangar that fortunately had not exploded and therefore had destroyed the fallen MS.
But the best part was that the hatch was still open with no one in sight to use it. Perfect. He didn't think twice to take the Representative there to get her to safety.
Athrun grabbed Cagalli and ran for the ZAKU. He leapt onto its torso, pulling her up behind him.
"¡Get in!"
"Huh?" Before she could object, Alex scooped her up in his arms and dropped into the cockpit. Depositing her on one side, he lowered himself into the seat, which for some reason was the right way up. Ignoring the minor surprise, Athrun ran his eyes over the controls. They were arranged somewhat differently to the ZAFT mobile suits he had trained in a few years ago, but the logic was much the same.
"What do you think you do, Athrun?" Cagalli asked worriedly.
"I can't let you die in a place like this!" Said Alex, or Athrun Zala, still tapping the buttons above. After a moment, the ZAKU's only eye lit up as if it had come to life. The mecha's body began to move and it struggled to get up until after a moment it managed to stand up in all its combat-ready glory. Unfortunately, its lifting caught the attention of the black MS who immediately turned to it quickly. Alex and Cagalli gasped and prepared for the worst.
"What now?" Stella asked boredly.
The Gaia raised an arm aiming its rifle at the one-eyed ZAKU and not long after, fired a beam beam at the green MS. Athrun reacted, pressing his feet down on the pedals and yanking the joysticks left. As a result, the ZAKU's main thruster lifted the huge, heavy machine into the air and moved it to the left, allowing the beam to hissed past, ripping through the hangar wall behind.
The girl was atonic to see that a simple ZAKU avoided her shot. Athrun wasted no time pressing the pedals forward. The main thruster roared again and this prompted the ZAKU to charge madly towards the black MS. Stella never had time to dodge it as the ZAKU crashed its shield into the other machine's chest.
The Gaia receded reeling backwards by the force of the impact a few meters until stop. The girl immediately recovered from her daze and now looked with bewilderment and above all anger at the annoying ZAKU who hit her.
"You bastard."
The Gaia drew its beam saber and dashed towards the ZAKU with resolute fury, but the latter unsheathed a short, heavy-bladed axe on top of its shield. The blade glowed pink-white as if it were laser energy. The first to strike the next blow was the black Mobile Suit when it brandished the saber up in a right-to-left diagonal. Athrun managed to block the attack in time by raising his shield and then lashing out with his axe. The axe struck the Gaia's own shield to no avail. Both machines were stuck in a stalemate trying to dominate the other in their beam sabers fighting, but it was only for a brief moment that the Gaia managed to break the deadlock by pushing its rival in the opposite direction.
Athrun tried to push back further away from the implacable black Gundam, but the latter's pilot refused to grant him any breathing space and continued to lash out with impetus by turning her beam saber right and left in a desperate attempt to cut the green MS at once, although she only cut the void.
Athrun gritted his teeth. His enemy lacked finesse, but made up for it in aggression, keeping the pressure on. Worse, he or she had reflexes comparable to a trained Coordinator, which almost certainly meant a comparable thinking speed. The sort of tricks he might have used to turn the tables on an EA pilot would probably not work. This was going to be tricky.
Suddenly, his thoughts were interrupted when he heard Cagalli's muffled scream as she looked to the left side of the outside viewing screen. Athrun was the next to belatedly notice that one of the renegade Mobile Suits approached him from the rear to attack him from behind with its beam saber.
Athrun tried desperately to avoid it, moving his ZAKU aside, but it was too late for that. With astonishing speed, the Chaos broke the distance between it and the ZAKU and brandished its beam saber, cleanly cutting off the left forearm of the ZAKU. The putable arm fell, as did the shield he carried.
Just when all seemed lost for the pair now cornered between both mortal enemies, something exploded in the back of the Chaos causing it to stagger stopping its next attack. The pilots of the 2 renegade Mobile Suits looked up at the sky, forgetting their mutilated prey to search for the source of the new attack.
It didn't take long for them to see him when they saw the newcomer being a kind of plane or fighter flying recklessly towards their location. And it wasn't going alone. Behind him was accompanied by a series of 5 support units in his environment that look like parts of a body.
The fighter pulled up suddenly, until it was flying vertical. Suddenly, the Core folded its body, the nose retracted into the fuselage, its wings folded in adopting a square shape. Then one of the modules being the Leg Flyer, was positioned directly under the folded fighter. Said module had the shape of a waist and legs. The other module, the Chest Flyer, being the upper part of the torso with the arms and head included, was positioned on top of the folded fighter.
In a manoeuvre that must have required either endless practice or computer programming of unimaginable sophistication, the three began to combine. The folded-up fighter joined with the module above it, even as the legs came up from below, guided by red laser beams. The waist slotted into place, the legs spreading as they came online. With all this, the entire humanoid body of the Mobile Suit was almost complete being in all respects a Gundam.
Finally, the final piece, the Sword Silhouette Pack was introduced into the back of the Mobile Suit, wearing 2 large anti-ship swords, white and blue.
The new Gundam quickly descended to the ground and landed right in the middle between the ZAKU and the stolen 2 Mobile Suits. A Phase Shift color scheme of pure white, bright red, and some dull gray and black took the Gundam's armor while its attention was directed towards the 2 stolen Mobile Suits. The new Gundam unsheathed the swords located on his back, joined them to form a great double-edged saber and then weaved them around in a skilled fashion, before standing with it's legs spread apart, ready for combat.
"Why are you people doing this?" The voice of a young, angered teenaged male asked from within the cockpit of the ZGMF-X56S/β Sword Impulse as he stared firmly towards his enemies without showing any signs of fear "Do you guys want to start over!? ANOTHER WAR!?" Shinn Asuka yelled with a raging fury in his voice, while a deep fire burned in his bright red eyes which were below his messy, raven black hair.
Sting only looked in amazement at the new Gundam as he didn't know there was a fourth unit. He searched for information about that in his data terminal, but the only thing that came out was "Object unknow" to his disbelief.
"No data? So they had it reserved." Sting grumpy. If they really did not have data on that new unit then this may cause them problems from today, however, counting on their numerical advantage, they may have a chance to end it.
However, before he could contact his companions to work out a strategy to deal with the newcomer, he suddenly noticed that his radar began to beep as a signal of a also unknown heat source approaching his location. Not just him. The radars of ZAKU, Gaia and Gundam detected the same signal from an unknown unit approaching. Then suddenly the radars began to fail and it disconnected as if there was interference. Everyone wondered in unison what was going on and what this new unknown unit was.
The answer was not long in coming when Cagalli was the first to spot a bright object moving in the sky, and Athrun was the next to notice. Not long after, the rest of the pilots also managed to spot that strange silhouette approaching them from the air, and soon deduced that it was also a Gundam. But it didn't seem to be just any Gundam, since from its back seemed to emanate a strange veil of light made up of innumerable bluish luminous dust particles.
It wasn't long when the new Gundam landed softly to the ground in front of the Chaos, but isolated just a few meters from the Impulse. Everyone was visibly shocked by its appearance.
Once the new Gundam was in plain sight, Cagalli and Athrun made note by looking closely at the features of this new machine. Its appearance was very similar to the Impulse, except that the only distinguishable characteristics were that its torso, instead of crimson red, was painted navy blue, the rest of its body had a more silvery tone and the only more unusual feature was that it possessed on its back a strange propellent in a conical shape where presumably emanated that strange veil of bright particles.
At the same time, Durandal and his men were watching the battlefield through a screen and saw the mysterious blue Gundam facing the Chaos. Several officers were perplexed to see that unit, as it does not belong to any of its facilities. Some tried to identify him, but could not, since he was of unknown origin.
On the contrary, Durandal did not seem surprised at all to see the blue Gundam, since he foresaw that this would happen.
'So it's already started...' Durandal thought to himself.
"Exia, battlefield confirmed." The voice of a young, emotionless teenaged male declared from within the cockpit of the GN-001 Exia as he looking the number of targets in front of him. In contrast to Shinn, this pilot, showed no anger or any strong emotion that characterized the former, and instead, only displayed a stoic expression empty of any emotion staring at his targets coldly as the ice. His navy blue flight suit also contrasted with ZAFT's crimson red.
"Beginning the intervention." Setsuna F. Seiei declared as he preparing for combat.
'The day when the destiny of humanity and the world will change... Forever.'
The wheel of destiny has begun to turn...
That's all for today. As you have seen almost the entire chapter followed the original canon of the first episode of SEED Destiny except for the appearance of a third faction on the scene between both fronts (EA and ZAFT) and ends with the appearance of the 2 main protagonists; Setsuna F. Seiei and Shinn Asuka who they become on rivals and with Kira Yamato in the future.
I must recognize that the chapter has been quite long covering almost an entire anime episode, but in the following I will cut them in half.
Oh, if I have not said it before, in this story I will put new elements in the exclusive Mobile Suits from 00 to adapt them well to the necessity of the Cosmic Age.
