Kristoph Gavin carried himself with as much composure as Apollo had seen in anyone accused so directly. He stood tall, folded his arms, and tilted his head just enough to let light flash across his glasses. Despite himself, the younger attorney could not help but shiver. Kristoph had always done that when someone was in particular need of a tongue-lashing. When words were finally spoken, they were clear and firm.

"Excuse me, but I do not understand what you were trying to say just now, Ms. von Karma."

Franziska put a hand on her hip. "As I said before, Mr. Gavin, I reserved the restaurant for myself, Phoenix, and our guest. There was no reason for you to know that Mr. Drew Misham was bald under his hat." From his seat in the defendant's chair, Phoenix shrugged. "I mean, I appreciate you coming all this way to help out, but...I'm pretty confused myself."

Kristoph lifted his head, his voice still carrying strong. "I concur." He returned Phoenix's shrug. "Is it really so uncommon for an old friend to make a dramatic entrance?"

The Judge looked as confused as Apollo himself thought he looked. "Um, Prosecutor Gray...do we really need..."

Gray shook his head. "Never mind it, Your Honor. I am prepared to let the court hear of all the information necessary for the case."

Kristoph flashed another one of his smiles. It might have just been Apollo's imagination, but he swore he could hear the slightest gnash of teeth behind it. Though the mouth stayed closed, Kristoph's chest rose and fell several times. An impromptu breathing exercise.

"It had been some time since I had seen my old colleague, Phoenix Wright. I thought that I would get there before anyone else."

Franziska put a hand to her mouth, stifling a laugh.

"I am sorry, Mr. Gavin. But that is not possible."

At that moment, Apollo found some of his strength. He pointed a finger straight at Franziska. "Witness! Do you have information that you have not previously shared with the court!?"

"As a matter of fact, I do." Franziska smiled.

"The restaurant's policy ensures that on a day where a buyout has been set up, it is closed until the participants arrive. The doors are locked, and no one can get in or out." There was a pause. "Or at least, that is how things should happen."

Apollo stood back as Kristoph's brow twitched.

"Your Honor? I would like to request a recess so that the policy can be confirmed."

Apollo hesitated, and began to speak. "Pardon, but the defense..."

"Justice." That was all Kristoph needed to say.

Outside the lobby, Phoenix kept his arms up as he submitted to another examination. Klaire patted him down, then stepped aside. Just as she thought. Phoenix had everything he had when he had come to court; watch, wallet, and a closed golden locket. His phone had been confiscated at the Detention Center. Klaire shook her head. Doing this whenever a defendant entered or left the courtroom seemed so pointless, but procedure was procedure.

Phoenix smiled and gave a thumbs-up, to which Klaire grinned sheepishly and reached for the door. But before she could, a new voice cut the air.

"Daddy!"

A young girl, decked out in a blue top hat and cloak, came barreling towards Phoenix. He turned just a split second before he knelt, picked up the girl, and brought her up in his arms in one smooth motion. He chuckled.

"Trucy, you know today's an important day!"

"I know!" The girl laughed. "But I had to make sure you were doing well!"

"Everything's going along, kid."

Klaire was equal parts surprised and unsuprised. "I didn't know you had a daughter with Mrs. von Karma, Mr. Wight."

At that point, Trucy freed herself from Phoenix's grasp and let herself fall to her feet. She gave a bow. "I joined their family, ma'am. Daddy's gotta be nailing this case, right? Just like in the old days?"

Klaire froze in place. After a few stale moments, she waved a hand. "Yes...just like seven years ago."

At that moment, Trucy turned and started to run off. "I'll tell the others! See you soon, Daddy!"

At that moment, not wanting to continue the interaction, Klaire opened the door to the courtroom. Kristoph walked in, and Klaire swapped places with him on the other side.

Kristoph put his smirk back on his face. "Life is certainly full of surprises, eh, Wright?"

"They sure are."

Kristoph began to circle the defendant, continuing the motion until the two of them were face to face again.

"Is this your idea of revenge?"

"My past is like my logic, straight and true." Phoenix replied. "Nothing's changed since seven years ago. I'll point the finger of justice in the direction it deserves."

Kristoph again performed the trick he was so fond of, letting his lenses flash. "And I'm to assume you have some ace in the hole?"

"Indeed I do." Phoenix reached inside his pocket. He pulled out his hand and caressed the item with two fingers. Kristoph stared. It was a small green vial with a grey plastic cap. He had seen it before. Phoenix looked down. The former defense attorney saw that Gavin's hand was twitching ever so slightly.

But just grabbing it was out of the question. For now.

Apollo took another sip from the fountain before using a little excess water to use on his eyebrows. Okay, so things had not gone as planned. Or at any rate, not smoothly. He had not been sure of what plan to use before the recess, or after. But the case had to be solved, one way or another. Today was still Apollo Justice's day, damn it!

Suddenly, he felt a tap on his shoulder. He suppressed a yelp and turned around.

It was a young girl dressed all in blue. She held out a small yellow package for him. "This is for you." And then she was gone.

Apollo blinked, but nonetheless tore a hole in the packet and pulled out what was inside. A green vial with a plastic cap.
