Chapter Four
Making a Friend
To say that Lily wasn't bored out of her mind was an understatement. If she had a choice of being chased by heroes or listening to Aizawa's boring lecture, she would've taken the option of running away from heroes that she was originally doing for the past ten years or so. At least with that, she wouldn't be stuck in one place to some degree and it would be interesting, to say the least. But nope, she was pretty much stuck being a student of U.A High School thanks to Artoria's suggestion. This wouldn't be so bad, were it not for the fact that Midnight would be escorting her around the school due to Principal Nezu's request.
"Is this necessary?" Lily asked as Midnight raised an eyebrow at her.
"Given what you did to Endeavor and Ryukyu. Yes, this is necessary." She said while leading her towards the cafeteria. "You think you can be trusted on your own?"
"Oh please. Like I'm the only one in this society of wannabe heroes who've done stuff as I did before."
"You killed a total of five hundred people. Granted they were villains, but that's not how a hero should act."
"Spare me the whole moral compass speech stripperella." She said before turning her gaze back onto Midnight. "Those villains that I killed were rapists, child molesters, and sex traffickers. Do you think taking them to trial would keep them in jail for life? If a rich person can buy off heroes and police officers with money, what makes you think that it wouldn't apply to judges. But even if there are people who wouldn't take their money, they'll end up getting killed by the people that the villain is with if they're in a gang or with the yakuza. And then sooner or later, the villain ends up leaving jail because they escaped or they were released due to the organization they're with."
"That still doesn't-"
"Doesn't justify the killing, maybe. But I rather have him dead than to try and have their way with another woman or lord forbid a child. Or do you want that on your conscience? Knowing that some other little girl or boy was raped by the man or woman you captured, but didn't kill'em?" She said before noticing a pained expression on Midnight's face.
"...Who hurt you, child."
"Life hurt me, lady. Unlike everyone in this high and mighty rich school full of people with families waiting for them to come home." The life that she had in her eyes faded as Midnight felt a chill run down her spine from how soulless her eyes are now. "I have no one waiting for me when I get back to my dorm." She said which caused an air of awkwardness to appear around them, only for the Pseudo-Servant to break it by walking past her. "I'm pretty sure you'll be here before lunch is over, so I'll be getting in line to get my food."
"To think that a school like this would exist in this world. It would bring shame to some heroic spirits to know that this is what they're being taught on what a hero should be like."
"Care to explain?"
"Sparing your enemies is good and all, but they fail to take in the consequences of what happens next. Say that they put the villain in jail, but he ends up escaping due to what you said. They could be in the yakuza, criminal organizations, or gangs. The moment they're out, they will kill either the hero that put them in jail, their family, friends, or innocent bystander. Which is why evil must be killed off."
"Yeah, if only that was possible to tell the heroes of this country."
"It's sad, but there's not much we can do...Well, we could, but I doubt you'll be willing to take over the world."
"Which I am not. I'll leave that to the religious nutjobs and extremists. I'm only here to get stronger. What they do is not of my concern, nor will I be paying attention to what they teach." She said before entering the cafeteria. Upon doing so, she would notice some of the students turning their attention at the doorway and stare in shock upon seeing Lily as the room mostly went silent. "Think it's not too late to get the hell out of this school?"
"Pretty much, yeah. They know where you live, and might have people looking around the area for your other secret homes."
"Fantastic..." She said before getting in line with the other students. Though upon doing that, one of the students would notice Lily standing behind him as he along with everyone in front of her were startled by seeing Lily as they quickly moved out of line. "...I should be hurt by this...but I can't help but laugh at how scared they are of me."
"I'm going to assume that people know about who you are via TV or other means of media," Artoria said as Lily rolled her eyes before making her way over to the counter where Lunch Rush was. Upon making eye contact with him, he was the first to make conversation with Lily.
"Oh, you must be the new student. Lily, right?"
"I'm pretty sure it's obvious that I'm Lily if you heard of me...and from what happened to the line that was in front of me." She said with a deadpan expression on her face. "Keep in mind, not being an ass towards you. Just annoyed at people keeping their distance from me like I got the plague or something else."
"Oh no, I kind of figured that was the case. It's a bit of a surprise to see the students do something like that...you really must have done something to scare them."
"I prefer not to talk about it if I'm being honest."
"Fair enough. I won't pry into your personal affairs." He said before handing her a tray that had a bowl of white rice, miso soup, and fried shrimp. "Try not to let the way they treat you affect you. Sooner or later, they'll be comfortable with you being around them. You might even find a friend or two that won't have that problem."
"If that does happen, I'll be sure to give you a banging pie recipe if that happens," Lily said in a somewhat sarcastic but serious tone before picking up her tray and walking off to a table to sit. As she was walking, she noticed some of the students giving her expressions ranging from fear, disgust, and anger. Lily simply ignored them as she headed towards a table with little to no one there or around it and sat down at the table. Once there she lets out a sigh of disappointment before starting to eat her meal, only to pause as she feels a presence beside her as it speaks.
"Um, excuse me. But is this seat taken?" said the familiar voice as Lily turns her attention to the left to see a blacked haired girl with her hair tied up in the back. The Pseudo-Servant raised an eyebrow at her before looking around for a moment, then focused her attention on the girl.
"You sure you want to sit next to me? Aren't you worried that being next to me will tarnish your reputation or something seeing how you're the class's Vice representative?"
"Not really. I figured I would come over and be friends with you." She said before taking a seat next to her. "I mean if that's okay with you?"
"...You got balls girl...alright, I'll allow it." She said before quickly beginning to devour her food with gusto. "T-The name's Lily Lilac. But I'm sure you already knew that."
"M-Momo Yaoyorozu. But you can call me Momo for short." She said before offering Lily a hand to shake it. The bunny girl smirked upon seeing this as she shook Momo's hand for a moment before going back to finishing her meal. "Wow, you must've been really hungry if you could eat like that."
"Naw, it's just been a while since I had some good food like this. I can give U.A some credit. It does make some very good food. Much better than eating rats and wild dogs when I was on my own." She said before noticing Momo's shocked expression on her face.
"Y-You're joking...right?" Momo asked as Lily shook her head.
"Long story short, I am an orphan. And the Orphanage I used to live in wasn't so nice to me due to the new owner not being a fan of Americans or African Americans. So me being both didn't help in my favor. So I pretty much left the orphanage to live on my own for the past ten years."
"T-That...explain so much from the introduction you made in class this morning," Momo said before eyeing Lily up and down. "And the clothes you're wearing."
"You blame All Might for giving me the school uniform that doesn't fit me. Had to make a few alterations so it can fit a certain part of my body." Lily said while mentally glaring at Artoria who simply shrugs in faint innocence.
"Shouldn't you be...well malnourished?" Momo asked as she started to examine Lily closely. "I mean. If you've been eating nothing but...rats and wild dogs, then you shouldn't be this healthy as you are now."
"I have ways of purifying meat. When I turned fifteen I was able to steal money from villains I killed and used it to buy actual food, supplements, and other things that I need to get my body back into shape." Lily said before flexing her arm muscle. Which didn't look any different than what muscle mass she has now, but still impressive to Momo nonetheless.
"I see...This might be a touchy subject. And you have every right to refuse me asking. But did you...well."
"Kill the villains that I stole the money from. For the most part, I did." She said before leaning back in her seat a bit. "I only went after rapist, child molesters that continued to hurt children, and sex trafficers. They were pretty much easy targets given I was a young girl, so you can put two and two together."
"Hm, it would make sense if what you said about your...upbringing is true," Momo said before sighing. "I'm not one to judge you on the things you did before coming to the U.A. High, but you should know that my classmates are a bit...on edge with you joining class 1A."
"Oh, I get it. They sent you here just to see what my true motives are?"
"Oh, no! They didn't send me at all. I came here on my own because you seemed a bit lonely eating by yourself. Me asking you questions was just due to my curiosity. I hope I didn't offend you or anything?" She said as Lily heard Artoria speak up.
"She's speaking the truth." She said which caused Lily to smirk more.
"I believe you. Mainly because you're the first in the classroom to interact with me, and again you got balls to sit next towards a villain like myself."
"I don't see you as a villain. Though your actions I can not condone, it's understandable when you're brought up in a place with no one to turn to."
"...Huh...You're the first person to have a decent conversation with...it's weird, but in a good way."
"That's good...right?" Momo asked as Lily nodded. "Okay, good. I was beginning to think that I might have made a mistake on my end."
"Naw, you're okay in my book compared to most people I've met. You have...some of my respect for the most part."
"Some?"
"We just met Momo. It takes more than just one conversation to form a friendship between us. But this conversation is a good start."
"Okay, then I'll try my best to gain your trust, Lily," Momo said with a determined expression on her face.
"This girl...she reminds me of Bedivere for the most part...Her loyalty towards you is still up in the air. Best keep her as a friend...but I'm sure you were going to add her as a friend anyway even without me telling you to do so." Artoria said as Lily mentally nodded in agreement.
"You're right about that...Depending on how this school is, I'll have to see how loyal of a girl she is in my book. For now." Lily said before focusing her attention back onto Momo as the two continued their conversation with each other.
