The knock on the door was persistent, but was being highly ignored each time. She didn't want to see nor talk to anyone. She was honestly trying to get her thoughts together while sulking in the process. She had never seen her father so angry at her before in her life, but she understood why he was. The only problem was, she couldn't help the feeling that she needed to result to what she did. Coming out of her thoughts when she saw the door open, indicating that the person had used a spare key that she kept hidden in the reef on her door.
"You're not picking up any of my calls nor responding to texts. I go to the gym to see you, just to found out that you're suspended."Santana sat the bag that she hand in her hand on the table. She crossed her arms and looked at Mercedes expectantly, the other woman not opening up her mouth. She was passed livid with her best friend, "What the hell were you thinking? You lucky I don't beat your ass for this."
Mercedes stared back at her with a frown, but knowing that she was right when she spoke the next words, she didn't respond to her once again.
"That shit is dangerous, Mercedes and it's not a game. God, I wish you'd let this pride of yours go." She ran a frustrated hand through her hair, looking down at her as she gestured to the bag, "Mami made you some Spicy Chicken Taquitos and Rice. I didn't want to bring it to you because you're being stupid, but she cussed me out and said I better."
Mercedes watched her turn for the door, prompting her to speak for the first time since she's been here, "You're not staying?"
"Nope because if I do..."
Mercedes heard her cut herself off before shaking her head and opening the door, slamming it behind her. She sighed as she leaned further back into the couch, picking up the remote and resuming back to her movie.
Sam had entered the gym, looking down at his watch as he did so when he noticed something. He didn't know how this day was about to go after what had happened. He went to put his things up in his locker, afterwards, heading upstairs before he got dressed to talk to Henry. Seeing him on his computer, he knocked on the door, watching as the man lifted his head and gestured for him to come in, "It looks a little light down there."
"Try a lot." Henry responded as he sent the email he was working on before giving Sam his full attention, "I suspended people who he knew what Mercedes was doing and didn't tell me. I'm still trying to figure out if I want to go beyond that suspension and get rid of them. I should've been told, but I thank you for doing so."
"You don't have to thank me. I know Mercedes has issues with me and I don't blame her, but I wasn't about to let her continue on that suicide mission." Sam started before taking a deep breath, feeling the need to get what he has been holding off his chest, "Henry, I want to sincerely apologize to you. I wish I could give you a good enough reason for leaving like I did but I can't. You played a big part of helping me become who I am, minus the arrogance and attitude, I let myself forget that."
To say Henry wasn't expecting that, he wasn't. He sighed before taking off his glasses, "Not going to lie, it hurt and I was disappointed. You was like a son to me, I felt betrayed and it honestly hurt. But I came to realized that it was your life and your choice, plus, you were just a kid..."
"That shouldn't be an excuse."
"Not saying it is, but you were still fragile and by fragile, I mean that the work that you put in to be a better version of yourself wasn't finish, and because it wasn't, that's why it was easy for you to be bright eyed with what you was being offered that I wouldn't give you until I knew for sure you was ready." Henry told him as he folded his hands, "I know I was suppose to wait until after your first match but I feel like this is the best time. You asked me why I took you back and the answer is because you reminded me of that boy who walked into that gym all those years ago. The one who needed help. The one who needed support. The one who needed structure and encouragement. That's why and I'm glad that you're back."
"This is where I belong."
Henry nodded with a smile, "I'll be down in a second."
Sam nodded as well, turning to exit out of his office. As soon as he stepped out, he felt his phone go off in his jean pocket, digging it out, he read the texts that displayed on the screen.
We need to talk. 8:30 at the diner we went as kids.
Sam didn't know what to expect when he walked into the diner. When he received the text, he couldn't lie, he was shocked that he got it but it wasn't going to stop him from going to see what was up. Spotting her sitting in the booth in the back, he began to walk into that direction, speaking to some of the people when they spoke, "I was honestly surprised it was you."
Mercedes looked up from her phone, eyes following him as he sat down in front of her, "I had a lot of time to think and I feel that it's best for us and everyone if we settled our differences."
"Hey Superstar, I haven't seen you around here in awhile." The waitress smiled at him as she came up to the table, placing her hand on her hip, "The usual?"
"Yes."
"How about you Cedes? Switching it up tonight?"
"Yep, I just want some fries."
"Gotcha. It'll be right out you two."
Mercedes waited until she was gone until she began talking, "You know I grew up living and breathing boxing, you were there for most of it. I came to the gym after school, during weekends, went to fights, I was there. My Daddy had me studying every aspect of this sport since I could read." She chuckled before shaking her head and turning serious, "I know you were the one who told him."
"I don't regret doing so. Underground fighting is like asking for a death wish, Merce." The nickname had slipped from his mouth for the first time since he's been back, him not realizing it because the topic of the conversation was so frustrating to him, "I don't care how good you are, you needed to be stop."
No matter frustrating it was for her to keep hearing it, she knew that he was right. They all were. She was playing a dangerous game and she needed to put an end to it. As she sat there deep in thought, the waitress had came back with their food too quickly, probably because she already knew what they wanted and had it put in before she walked over to them. She slid the plates in front of them and brought their drinks. Once she left, Mercedes continued on with the conversation, trying to redirect off of herself, "Speaking of that night, how did he even know you was there?
Knowing who she was speaking about, he shrugged as he squeezed some ketchup on his plate, "I haven't seen, let alone talk to him in years. The last I heard was he had a new wife and three more kids."
"Bless their souls because they're going to need it with that asshole." Mercedes commented as she sipped out of her straw. Sam's sperm donor has always pissed her off. Just knowing how he treated Sam, his mom and sister, made her more grateful to have the father she did, "How's your mom and sister?"
"They're good. They live in Reno now. "
"Well, that's good. Next time you speak to them, tell them I asked about them."
"I will." He wiped his mouth after biting into his burger, "What about your mom?"
"Wouldn't know, we don't talk. She left us after I turned seventeen, said she couldn't handle me growing up in that environment and knowing that I could die. Blamed my father for 'corrupting' me." Mercedes shrugged as she played with her straw, "My last fight, she called me while I was in the hospital and said I told you so."
"That's messed up."
"Yeah but it's whatever. She never ceases to surprise me."
Sam stared at her for a moment before speaking again, "Is her leaving why you went MIA from the gym your senior year?"
"How did you hear about that?"
"How could I not? You were suppose to be in the junior girl's boxing match, but dropped out. Everyone was talking about it."
"That among other things." Mercedes ran the fry through the ranch, placing it in her mouth, "After I bounced back two years later, I moved out of Quinn's apartment when we broke up and started back training."
"Wait...hold on." He waved his hands as he looked at her with a raised brow, "Quinn Fabray?"
"Yeah, you remember her right?"
"I do but I didn't know you were a lesbian."
"Okay, first of all, I'm not a lesbian." Mercedes corrected him as she sat up straight in the booth, "I'm bisexual."
"Hmm." Sam hummed out as he picked up his cup and took a sip from it, seeing the look she was giving him, he clarified his prior reaction once he got done drinking, "I just wasn't expecting that."
"Yeah well..." She just laughed at him as she placed another fry in her mouth, shrugging, "Yeah."
"Friendly exes, huh?"
"I mean, yeah. We realized, well more me than her, came to a mutual decision that we were better off friends. She was there at a time when I needed it the most but I was a emotional mess so..." She drifted off, shaking her head when she realized she was over sharing, "Anyways, I asked you here so I can apologize. I've been such a bitch to you and I'm sorry. I was so angry at how everything went down. We were a family. Yeah, we teased and fought like hell but at the end of the day, I would've kicked anyone's ass for you."
"And you know I would've done the same and I'm sorry too. I know you didn't want an apology, but I owe you one." He started before he admitted what he haven't out loud, "I was greedy, and impatient. I wanted that success now and not let it naturally come like Hen taught us. I was dumb. I learned that too late. It wasn't until I got to Mitch that I knew how much I was played with and that made me revert back to my old ways."
"And now you're back where you started."
"And now I'm back where I started."
Mercedes smirked as she leaned over and pinched his cheeks, "We're bonding again."
Sam moved her hands from his face, "You're always ruining a moment."
Mercedes giggled as she sat back, watching as the waitress came back with their ticket. She reached for it but once again, he moved her hand away.
"I got it."
"Okay Moneybags." Mercedes quipped as she sat back in the booth. She had to be honest, she liked this and it reminded her of the times when they were teens before he got too big headed. Before Mercedes could say anything else, her eyes trained on the woman that was headed their way. She recognized her instantly when she got closer, spotting the scowl on her face.
"What in the hell is going on here?"
Sam looked over and saw that it was his girlfriend, "Ally, chill."
"No, I'm not going to chill when you're out with some other girl." She said angrily as she glared at him then Mercedes, "You should be ashamed throwing yourself at a taken man."
Mercedes smiled as a chuckle left her mouth, sliding from the booth, she grabbed her bag and slid it across her body, "I'm going to go. Thanks for meeting me and for dinner."
Ally watched as she walked away, turning her eyes back to him, "What the fuck, Sam? You cheating on me now? With her out of all people? You pig."
Sam rolled his eyes as he stood up, tossing the tip on the table before walking away, the girl trailing behind him as she pushed him forward.
"Sam, do we have a problem?" One of the waitress asked as the couple were receiving some looks from the other patrons in the diner.
"I'm sorry for the disturbance, Kia." He responded to the woman as he grabbed ahold of Ally's arm and led her outside, the woman shrugging out his hold.
Ally slapped him in his face, breathing erratically as she yelled, "YOU CHEATING SON OF BITCH!"
"I'm not cheating on you, Ally. Damn. Mercedes is apart of my team and I've known her since we've were younger, you know that."
"I don't care. Why would you have dinner with another woman that's not kin to you?"
Sam let out a humorless laugh before walking away from her, "You're ridiculous if you think I'm not going to have friends or even contact with women that are the opposite sex."
"If you want to be apart of your child's life, you will." She called after him, watching as he came to a stop. She moved forward to where he was, facing him was her eyes in slits, her next words leaving him frozen in his spot of the sidewalk as she walked away, "I'm pregnant and I'm keeping it."
A/N. Yikes. In due time is the answer for the questions that I know you have :)
