Ally hummed lowly as she sat her bags down at the front door, pulling her phone from her pocket. She was going to call Sam one more time to see where he was because she hasn't spoke to him in a couple of days. Not getting an answer again, she rolled her eyes and walked further into the home they shared. She couldn't wait until they moved out. For starters, she didn't understand why Sam had them still staying in this small two bedroom one story house. She knew he made enough money for them to have something big and extravagant, but he wasn't budging. She'll eventually break him down soon. Placing a hand on her stomach, she stopped short when she saw the girl sitting on their couch, a frown forming on her lips when she saw who it was, "What are you doing in my house?"

Sabrina looked up from her phone, sending her an insincere smile, "How was your little trip, Allyson?"

"Fine." She answered as she sat her purse down on the table, "Again I ask, what are you doing here in my house and how did you even get in?"

"This is my brother's house. Last time I check, you don't pay any bills here."

"Not that it's any of your business, you don't know what I do here." She crossed her arms over her chest, "Where is Sam anyways? He isn't picking up my calls."

Sabrina stood up from the couch, sticking her phone into her pocket before making her way over to where she was standing, "The hospital. One of his friends got attacked the other day."

"Oh wow." She responded in shock, looking at her as she placed a hand over her heart, "Sam isn't hurt is he? Is that why he isn't picking up my calls?"

"Sam's fine."

Ally let out a relieved breath as she made her way to sit down, "This is why I want to move away from this city. Nothing but bad things happening, and it's not a good place for us to raise our baby."

Sabrina stayed silent for a moment before she spoke again, "Is that even my brother's baby?"

Ally's mouth dropped in shock, eyes turning into slits as she glared at the girl, "How dare you even ask that."

"So, you wouldn't oppose to a DNA test."

Ally couldn't believe that she was standing there insulting her. Getting up from the couch, she went and stood in front of the teen, "Listen little brat, I don't have to prove anything to you or you mother, because I pretty sure she's involved in this too."

"I'm going to let you know right here and right now bitch, reframe yourself from having my mother's name in your mouth. I don't know what it is you have over Sam to make him stay with you, but hopefully he wakes up real soon."

"I'm calling the cops."

"No need, I'm leaving, but I'll be back when Sam's here." She walked up the steps and headed towards the front door. This wasn't over by a long shot.

Back at the hospital, Sam had ended up falling asleep, his head resting on the side of the bed. He was a real light sleeper, so when he felt a hand in his hair, his eyes immediately opened. He lifted his head and was met with a pair of brown eyes staring at him.

"W-water."

Sam got up and went outside the room, hollering for a nurse, letting them know she was awake and wanted some water. He came back in the room, one of the nurses was hot on his heels as she passed him and went to Mercedes. She checked her monitors before taking a flashlight and sweeping across her eyes, causing her to shut them. The other nurse came in with a cup, handing over to him. He watched as she finished up, letting him know that everything looked good and the doctor would be in when she got out of surgery.

Sam went back and took a seat beside her, holding the cup and bending the straw towards her mouth, watching her take slow slips. He stared at her and couldn't help his free hand from going to touch the uninjured side of her cheek. Her right one was bruised badly, along with her eye, and her eyebrow, which was now stitched up. He hated this with every bone in his body.

"I look that bad, huh?"

"Unfortunately." He said as he looked at her, watching as she chuckled, grimacing a bit in pain, "Do you remember what happened?"

Mercedes closed her eyes for a moment before speaking, "I was coming in through the back like always and heard something behind me. I could tell it was person but I didn't get a chance to see him. I do know it was a man for sure."

"Police looked on the cameras Merce, but he avoided them. Do you remember anything else? Any little thing is helpful."

"No." She whispered as she looked at him, "I'm...I'm sorry."

"Hey, don't. None of this is your fault, okay?" He told her softly as he reached down and took ahold of her hand, "The most important thing is that you're still here and that's all that matters."

Mercedes nodded her head as she squeezed his hand, feeling the new pain medicine starting to kick in, prompting her to smile in realization, speaking teasingly, "You're getting soft of me, Cream Cheese. Soft enough to make some icing for Cinnamon Rolls."

Sam rolled his eyes at that petty nickname and her jokes, watching as she let out a giggle before closing her eyes once more, "Even when you're down, you're consistent at ruining moments."

"And you called me stubborn, I heard you." She said tiredly as a response, "When I get enough strength, I'm going to kick your ass."

Sam was glad that she drifted off back to sleep so she couldn't see that smile on his face as a quiet laugh left his mouth. He looked down at his watch, he really didn't want to leave her side and he had nowhere to be, but he was going to make sure that he called her Dad to let him know that she was up. He leaned down and placed a kiss on her forehead.

The action didn't go unnoticed by someone that was standing outside looking in and that person was Quinn. She crossed her arms over her chest, waiting for him to come out.

When Sam closed the door behind him, he was met with the woman still standing there. She looked a lot different from the last time he saw her. Her hair was short and brunette instead of its usual blonde, "She just went back to sleep."

"That's fine." She said as she stared at him for a minute, "I was going to call her parents and let them know."

"No need, I already did." He didn't but he was about to. It was just something about her that wasn't meshing well with him. He watched as she raised a brow at him before sending him what he believed was a sarcastic smile with a nod, confused, he shook off that vibe he was getting from her and headed to the waiting room.

Quinn watched him walk away before heading into the room. Going over the couch, she took a seat, crossing her legs as she looked over at the sleeping girl in front of her. She wanted to be surprised that this happened, but she wasn't and she didn't mean that in a dismissive mean way, more of a not wanting it to be true way. She honestly never liked Mercedes' decision to continue to do this for a living, that's one thing she did agree with that low life that called herself a mother. She didn't want her best friend to get hurt, and at that time, she didn't want her girlfriend to get hurt. Girlfriend. She smiled at that as she continued to look at her. She thought they would've lasted, even prayed that that they did but their friendship was precious and to Mercedes, that was too important for her to lose.

Six years ago...

Quinn walked into the apartment, sitting her book bag down on the front table. She was so thankful that she was done with classes for today, hoping that she could come straight to the tub and get right into the bed. Smelling the food in the air, she removed her jacket, "Cedes."

"In the kitchen, but go to the table."

Quinn slid out of her shoes then made her way to the table, looking at the spread before her. She wasn't surprised at the fact Mercedes cooked because she always did, but on the table tonight was all of her favorites. She knew then something was wrong. She watched as the girl came and stood in front of her, feeling her heart began to beat fast. Something was up, she had been feeling the vibe for the past week or so, but she didn't want to acknowledge it. She pushed it down, figuring and hoping that it was just her being paranoid, "Why do I feel like this is a breakup dinner?"

Mercedes looked at her sadly, seeing her eyes filling a bit with tears already, "Quinn, I love you, I really do. You have been there for me through so much, I can't even explain how grateful I am to you. Fact of the matter is, your friendship means more to me than anything, and I don't want to lose that."

"You wouldn't, Mercedes." Quinn told her softly as the tears roll down her cheeks, "Why do you think it would?"

"I'm bound to screw up and I don't want you to be caught in the crossfire of heartbreak." She said as she leaned forward and wiped her tears away with her hands, "Our friendship is precious to me, I don't want to lose that. You deserve someone who's going to give you everything then more."

"Mercedes."

Mercedes smiled a bit as she moved forward, pressing a lingering goodbye romantic kiss on her lips before pulling back, giving the girl a hug, "I love you so much."

Quinn closed her eyes and hugged her back tightly, placing her head on top of hers, "I love you too."

"You're thinking too hard over there."

Quinn came out of her thoughts and looked at the woman, who was now awake with a smile on her face, "I can't leave you alone for a second."

"Guilty."

"I met your hero slash bodyguard coming in."

"Is that jealously I detect?" Mercedes teased, listening to her scoffed and roll her eyes.

"Of course not, I'm just merely making an observation."

Mercedes chuckled lightly as she turned her head to look at her fully, "He save my life, he's entitled to be here."

"I'm not saying he isn't." Quinn spoke honestly as she shook her head, "Anyways, I wanted to come see you and make sure that you were okay. I was on my way packing when I got the call. I start filming soon and I wanted to see you before I left."

"How long will you be gone this time?"

"Six months."

"How's Hailey taking it?"

"She's actually going with me." Quinn responded, watching as Mercedes nodded her head, "She told me to tell you that she hoped you feel better and that's she's praying for you."

"I appreciate that, tell her I said thank you".

"I will." Quinn responded with a smile as she leaned forward and grabbed ahold of her hand, "I'm really glad you're okay."

"Yeah, me too."

Hearing her phone alarm go off, she grunted sadly as she stood. She only had a few minutes to come before she had to catch her flight. Quinn walked over to the bed, leaning down and kissing her cheek, "I love you, don't ever forget it. I'll text you when I land."

Mercedes nodded her head, watching as she let go and left out the room. She sighed before closing her eyes back, drifting off into a peaceful slumber.

A couple hours later, Sam had came back in just to find her now sitting up in the bed, the untouched lunch plate still on the tray. He watched as she turned her head, prompting him to walk fully in, "You fell asleep and I didn't want to interrupt a potential reunion."

Mercedes gave him a cheeky grin, raising a brow at his tone mixed and how mixed with sarcasm. The jealousy was in the air today, "There's no reunion, Sam. She's just my friend."

"I couldn't tell by how she was coming off." Sam commented as he took a seat in the abandoned spot on the bed, "How are you feeling?"

"Sore and still a little loopy from these drugs but I'm grateful that it's just that with a few stitches and bruises." She started as she sat up some more, "I thought you would've been back home already."

"I decided to stick around and make some calls. Truth in fact, I really want to make sure you're okay. Besides, I know they don't want you eating any outside right now for whatever reason, so I kind of wandered around and..." He pulled the yogurts from his jacket pocket and sat them on the table, "Stole from nurses lounge."

Mercedes stared at him for a moment, giggling as her hand went to his face, rubbing his cheek before picking up one of the yogurts and opening it, "You're nothing but trouble, Sam Evans."

"I've been told that my whole life." He said as he stared at her with a small smirk, causing her to chuckle before she reached for a spoon, "Your Dad and Ruby both said they'll be here this afternoon."

Mercedes nodded her head gratefully as she placed the spoon in her mouth, moaning a bit a the taste before looking at him, "Thank you for this, and for being here. I really don't want to be alone...and thank you again for saving my life."

"Yeah, you definitely owe me big." He said jokingly, watching as she smiled before finishing up her snack, "Seriously, I'm glad you're okay."

Mercedes' eyes settled on his as her thumb ran along a scar from one of his fights, "I am too. I can't wait to get out of this hospital though."

Sam placed his hand on top of hers to stop her movements, "You need time to heal. Don't rush it."

Mercedes didn't know what came over her once she leaned forward and pressed her lips against his cheek, whispering, "You truly are a sweetheart, Sam."

Sam watched as she pulled back but not all the way, a nice spacing in between as they stared at one another, the change evident in the air.

Mercedes was the first to break the silence with a chuckle, tilting her head, "No comeback? I'm shocked."

Sam didn't respond. Well, at least vocally he didn't. He closed that little space by placing his lips on hers, a little shock that he got an immediate response back. He pulled back for a moment to stare at her, only for her to place her hand on the back of his neck and pull his mouth back to hers.

Chianne smiled at the nurses as she held the bag in her hand. She had decided to bring her cousin some goodies because she knew that the hospital food here was most likely trash and she didn't want her starving. As she got to her door, she pushed it open quietly just in case she was sleeping and was not prepared for the sight she came in on, "Oop." She said quietly as she saw the two with their tongues down each other's throat. Chianne cleared her throat loudly to grab their attention, watching as the two pulled apart, which was not quick at all, "Hell. No."

Sam pulled backed and stared at Mercedes, who was looking at him with smile on her face. He kissed her one more time before getting up from the bed, glancing over at Chianne, who was just glaring her little ass off, "I'll come back later to check in."

Chianne eyebrows raised as she looked at him, "Check in? Or continue to stick your tongue down my cousin's throat?"

Sam just ignored her before he moved passed her and out of the room.

Chianne sat the bag down on the table, going over to look at her cousin, "Mercedes Janelle..."

"Chi, please don't start."

"Oh, nah sis. We are." Chi pointed to the door, "That man has a whole girlfriend and a baby on the way. What the hell were you thinking?"

Mercedes sighed as she leaned back against the bed, running her hands over his face, "I don't know."

"You're not somebody's side piece nor are you a cheater. I'm going to mark it off as you being drugged up because girl..." Chi looked at her cousin, eyes going wide, "Oh my God, Mercedes...are you in l word with him?"

"You're being dramatic, Chianne Jones. It was a kiss." A long, hella overdue kiss. Mercedes laid back as she thought about it, blocking out her cousin's lecturing. She couldn't believe that just happened, but she wasn't mad that it did. But Chi was right, she wasn't a cheater. Even though the home wasn't happy, she wasn't go to take part in breaking it.

Sam didn't know what possessed him to kiss Mercedes but he was glad that he did. Between knowing that she was okay, his feelings that he has always had for her, a twinge of jealously when he saw Quinn there and just going off the vibes, he was a goner. He wanted her. He needed her. It was a lot of emotions going though him right now, but this one was steady and consistent. As he pulled into his driveway, he saw his little sister sitting on the steps of his front porch. Getting out of his truck, he locked it and made his way towards her, "What are you doing out here?"

"That witch threatened to call the cops on me earlier, so I came back not too long ago and decided to wait on you." Sabrina shrugged as she stood up from the steps, looking at her brother, "Sam, something just doesn't feel right. Trust me on this please."

"Sabrina."

"What does she have on you?"

"She doesn't have anything on me." Sam sighed as he finally admitted what he has been holding in for awhile, "I've been trying to get my affairs in order before I broke up with her. I had to make sure that for my kid's sake, she wouldn't try any loopholes in milking me dry."

"If that's even your kid."

"I'm getting a DNA test, I promise but I had to make sure these things were in place just in case."

"Good because she's no good." Sabrina stressed as she watched him climb the stairs, following behind him.

Ally was in the kitchen when she heard the front door open and close. Sitting her cup down, she made her way to see, her steps faltering when she saw Sabrina once again, rolling her eyes before they went to Sam, "You know she was here earlier accusing me of cheating and demanding a DNA test for our baby?"

"I don't appreciate you threatening my sister."

Ally scoffed as she crossed her arms in anger when he completely disregarded her feelings, "Why wasn't you answering my calls?" She watched as he ignored her, walking pass as if she didn't say anything. That pissed her off and she was done with his disrespect, "Guess you were with your little girlfriend at the hospital, huh? You need to make a choice. It's either us or her. And just let the record show, if you choose her, you're never, ever going to see your kid. I'd make sure of that."

Sam came to a complete halt when he heard her. Turning around when he realized something, aurned to her when he realized something, a frown deepening on his face, "How the fuck you know she's in the hospital?"

The woman stared at him a little wide eyed, composing herself as she placed her hand on her stomach, "Sabrina told me."

Sabrina glanced over at her brother, "I never said anything about it being Mercedes."

Sam had anger running viscously through him, a feeling that only worsen when he was beginning to piece things together rather quickly, "You had something to do with it, didn't you?"

Ally looked at him then Sabrina then back at him as she placed a protective hand over stomach. She felt the tears forming in her eyes because there was no way out of this. She was caught and she was too far in now, "I just wanted to scare her, I didn't think they were going to hurt her"

"THEY? As in more than one person? Who the fuck is they?" When she didn't say anything, it pissed him off even more, "You better get to talking or so help me God."

Ally has never seen him this upset and to be honest, it was truly scaring her. Feeling tears fall from her eyes, she mumbled the names as she sat down on the couch, covering her face with her hands, "I'm so, so sorry. I never meant for anything like this to happen to her."

Sabrina's eyes went wide as her mouth dropped in disbelief. One for the simple fact that she really had involvement in this but what was truly throwing her was who was involved.

All Sam saw was red. He turned around and knocked over the lamp, the glass from the lightbulb scattering across the floor, prompting both of them to jump at the noise. He looked at her, trying to compose himself because she was in fact pregnant and he didn't want her to lose her baby, "I want you out of here when I get back. Matter of fact, I'm calling the cops."

"Wait, Sam no. I'm sorry."

"Don't worry, I'm going to make sure she doesn't go anywhere until they come." Sabrina stated as she glared at the girl, who couldn't even look at them anymore. She glanced over to her brother as he headed for the door, shaking her head once it slammed close.

Sam was livid as he got into his truck, not even getting in all the way before it was started up. He for one couldn't believe that Ally would do something like this, but what really had him seeing red was one of the people who were in involved. The one nuisance that has been constant in his life. The person who he had to fight at a young age. The person who he almost killed that one stormy night in July.

"...and your Dad."

A/N. BET YALL WASN'T EXPECTING THAT!
