Once Sam had closed the door, the two just stood there in silence for a good while, neither knowing what to say. Sam couldn't believe that after what happened in Vegas, Mercedes would be standing right here in front of him. After all, he was the one that left without further thinking but she was the one who indeed broke it off. He was just confused and at this point, not ready to have another argument with somebody he loves.

"I can see you're having second thoughts about opening that door."

Sam looked at her when she broke the silence, not meaning for his words to come out like they did, "I'm just trying to figure out why you're here, that's all."

Mercedes stared back him and took note to his irritated tone and she shook her head, grabbing ahold of her bag and attempting to head back out, "This was a mistake, I'm going to go."

"Wait." He stopped her as he grabbed ahold of her hand, "I'm sorry, its just….I have a lot going on right now. I just came back from the hospital, Sabrina had a wreck…"

"Oh my god, is she okay?"

"She's fine, she has a few cuts and bruises and have her on some pain medicine right now." He responded as he stared at her, taking a deep breath once he realized he was still holding her hand, letting it go because he had no right to keep holding on, "Please stay."

"Okay." She said softly as she stood in front of him, watching as he sat on the arm of the couch, running his hands over his face then through his hair, "You want to tell me what's bugging you?"

"Just a little all of the place, nothing to worry about." He tired to reassure her but he knew she could see right through his bullshit, but he hurriedly changed the subject, "How's Poppy? How are you doing?"

"She's doing good." Mercedes crossed her arms and shook her head, "Me on the other hand, I've had a crazy couple of days that I'm still trying to wrap my head around."

"Oh yeah?" He started, seeing her nod, he was just about to ask her what happened until he heard the front door open and close.

Emily took a deep breath as she sat at her keys and purse down on the table. All she wanted right now was to get a glass of wine, take a long, hot bath and get some sleep. It has been one exhausting, emotionally draining day and she was over it. Walking up the two steps to get to the living room, she stopped when she saw Mercedes and her son, mustering up enough energy to give the girl a warm, welcoming smile, "Hey Mercedes. I didn't know that you were coming."

"Last minute decision." She told the older woman with a chuckle before sobering up, "How's Sabrina? Sam just told me."

"I left her in a pain free sleeping state. The doctor cleared her to come home in the morning."

"That's great news." Mercedes said with a smile as she looked over at Sam, who was surprisingly quiet as they talked. She turned back to Emily, "Sam said it was okay but I wanted to check with you to confirm. There were no rooms available and if it's okay with you, can I stay here?"

"Of course, you don't have to ask me that. You know you're welcome here any time." Emily reminded her as she ran her hand across her face, glancing over at her son, who was looking away from her, and directed her words to him, "And we're having a conversation tomorrow."

Mercedes could tell that things were tense and she was trying to figure out what she had missed. She watched as the older woman grabbed the mail from the counter and head out of the room, "Sam, is everything okay?"

Sam just let a humorless laugh as he stood up and grabbed her luggage, "Peachy. I'll take this to the guest room."

Mercedes watched as he left out without another word, her hands on her hips as she looked at either direction, wondering what did she interrupt by coming down here. The reasoning for her to even come was for her and Sam to talk but looked like something else was in the atmosphere.

Mercedes and Sam didn't have a chance to talk like she wanted them to last night. After that encounter in the living room, the rest of the night went on with them having takeout, taking their showers and just going to bed. She had wanted to tell Sam about her three day unconscious stint, and what happened but obviously, there were some issues other than Sabrina's wreck going on. Speaking of Sabrina, she should be home soon because Emily had left about an hour ago to go get her. Sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee, she heard movement in the house, indicating that Sam was up. Her eyes went to the street when she noticed a truck parking in front of the house. She saw the door closed with a Hispanic man walking around and making his way towards the porch.

"Good morning."

"Morning." Mercedes replied back as she looked at the man, who had an edge to his tone, "Can I help you with something?"

"Is Emily here?"

"Who's asking?"

The man was about to open his mouth and tell her until the front door opened, revealing Sam, who had an instance look of disbelief on his face, "What do you want?"

"I was looking for your mom but you'll do. I have some things I need to say to you."

Mercedes sat the cup down on the table when she took note to that exchange. She stood up and went to stand beside Sam as the man walked up the steps, stopping about six feet away from them.

"First off, you were real disrespectful to your mom and I don't appreciate that at all. She doesn't owe you any explanation on anything with us."

"That doesn't sound like Sam. His mom is the last person he would ever disrespect, you must be mistaken." Mercedes popped in but she was instantly taken aback when the man snapped on her, "Again, who are you?"

"This doesn't concern you, so mind your business."

"Watch yourself." Sam moved and got in the man's face, "Don't you ever in your life fix your mouth to speak to her like that again. Now you're really pissing me off. Leave before I beat your ass."

"Those threats may work on others but not me." He stated angrily, glancing over at the woman, who now had wrapped her arm around Sam's, sincerely speaking once he realized how he was wrong to say that to her, "I'm sorry. I let my frustration get the best of me. I just came here to talk to Emily. I'm Daniel, her husband. We eloped two months ago."

"Husband?" Mercedes asked in shock before she looked at Sam, seeing that his jaw was without a doubt clenching. Two months ago? What in the hell was going on?

"So you both LIED because just yesterday, you were the boyfriend. What the ever hell?"

"And look how you took that." Daniel responded, him not realizing that he was really about to get Sam at his worse, "You're a bomb waiting to go off for no good reason."

Sam had untangled himself from Mercedes and attempted to move forward to the man but he was tired of hearing him talk.

"Sam stop." Mercedes got in front of him and pushed him a back a little, standing in between the two, "Calm down."

"Listen to your friend because I'm not your enemy but when you hurt my wife, that's when we have a problem. Do you know how long she cried last night after you left? This is a woman who has given you life and for you to treat her like that just because she didn't tell you about us is wrong." Just because your piece of shit father didn't treat her right, doesn't mean I'm going to do her the same way." The man responded, not knowing how deep the words reinstated the unwanted memories to flash back in Sam's head.

Mercedes knew though, but it was far too late for her to interfere. Somehow, Sam had move her to side and got out of her hold. He pushed the man, causing him to fall backwards off the steps and into the grass, he got on top of him and punch him in his face.

"SAM, STOP!" Mercedes called out but her words were falling death on his ears. She knew what he was capable of but she also knew that once he got on in that zone, it was hard to get him out.

With all of this going on, within those few seconds, they all failed to hear the car pull up in the driveway and a frantic Emily yelling once she parked, Sabrina getting out the passenger aside, "ENOUGH!"

The two men had came to a halt, Sam looking down and seeing that he had the man bleeding from different areas of his face as he got off of him.

Daniel struggled to get up but he did so with the help of Emily. He looked at the woman, who was just shaking her head, "Em…"

"I told you to leave it alone." Emily responded as she stared at him, feeling the tears forming in her eyes, "Go home, Daniel."

Daniel spit out the blood that was coming from his mouth, looking at the woman remorsefully, "I'm sorry."

"Just leave please." She told the man as she watch him nod and walk away, turning to look at her son once he got in the car, "All of this was UNNECESSARY!"

"You lied to me, Ma. TWICE! First you didn't tell me about this man and then I find out he's not even your boyfriend but your husband. Really?"

"What?" Sabrina inserted in confusion as she looked over to her mom and then back to her brother, "Sam, I didn't know about that I swear."

"This isn't your fault, Sabrina."

"Fault? There is nothing to even be a 'fault'. You seem to be forgetting whose the parent and whose the child, Sam Evans." She said as she pointed her finger at him, her anger finally boiling over, "I want you gone too."

"Mom." Sabrina started, only to be stopped by Mercedes, who just guided her up the stairs and into the house, but that didn't stop her from glancing backwards.

"I'm really disappointed in the man you have become. This is NOT my Sam. YOU ARE NOT THE MAN THAT I RAISED!" With those words, she turned and headed into the house, slamming the door behind her, leaving Sam standing there brewing in anger and hurt.

A couple of hours later, Mercedes had came downstairs after Sabrina had fell asleep and found the woman sitting in the kitchen, sipping from her wine glass as she stared outside. She had text Sam to check on him and he had just texted her back, but she wasn't going to open until she got to her car. She lifted her head and found that the woman was now staring at her,"Do you need anything before I go?"

"You don't have to leave, Mercedes."

"I do." Mercedes said softly as she looked at the woman, giving her a small smile before it dropped, "I don't want him to be alone."

Emily nodded understandingly, "Be safe."

"Okay." Was all she said before she went over and gave the woman a hug, one that she figured she needed in the moment before letting go. She stepped back and grabbed her suitcase, along with Sam's stuff, and exited out the house. Once she got their stuff packed in her trunk, she looked at her phone to see what he had texted, seeing the address, she noticed that he had drove to a hotel in Sacramento, which was two hours away. Sighing, she put on her seatbelt and moved out of the driveway.

Mercedes had made it a little after nine, stopping to get them some food before heading into the hotel. Sam had put her name on the room too, so after showing her ID, she headed to the elevator. Stepping off, she turned and walked down the hallway, coming to the room, she swiped the key and pushed the door opened. Once in, she sat the bag down on the table and slid off her sandals, moving around the bed and getting in to where she was laying in front of him. He wasn't sleep but the two stayed quiet for awhile, nothing but the air conditioner and the faint sound of the TV playing could be heard. She wanted him to be the one to break the silence, giving him the time he needed to gather himself and his thoughts. When he did, her heart instantly broke for him.

"Nothing hurts more than hearing your mom call you a disappointment."

"I truly believe she didn't mean it in the way. Trust me, I know what it's like." Mercedes reminded him that she was all too familiar with it, "She's just upset right now at herself for not telling you and at the same time, you for acting on your feelings for it. You both just need some time to cool off."

"I'm so sorry, I truly am." Sam expressed to her, sighing, "And not just for this but for walking out in Vegas. I should've stayed and listened to you, instead of reacting on my hurt. I can't say I'm a work in progress because I wouldn't lie like that but I am choosing to better myself daily. Sometimes it may work and sometimes it won't. That's okay." He admitted, seeing the small smile on her face hurt him because he knew what he was about say was only going to bring heartbreak and potentially keep them further apart, "I love you and I respect you so much, and I know what I'm about to say may have a major impact on our relationship but I just can't do the therapy thing. It's something I'm not comfortable with and something that I personally feel won't help me. I don't want to lose you, I swear I don't and I don't want there to be any 'buts'…..but I won't compromise your happiness because I can't get my shit together."

Mercedes just stared at him, letting his words settle before she spoke, "All I ever wanted was for you to really talk and express yourself to me. I'm sorry if it felt like I was pushing you because that wasn't my intention. I just want you to be able to let someone help you with your pain." She leaned forward and wiped the tear that slid from his eye, "But just listening now, you got this but I want you to know you don't have to do it alone. I'm always going to be there for you…as your friend and your girlfriend."

Sam let out a laugh in disbelief, "Really can't believe you still want to be with me after all this."

"You're the cream cheese to my bagels, I'll be incomplete with you." She smiled with a chuckle, watching as he did the same, squinting her eyes a bit, "Too corny?"

Sam shook his head with a smile as he stared at her, "Just enough."

Mercedes leaned forward and kissed him softly before wrapping her arms around him, giving a big, needed hug for the both of them, "I love you, Sam and everything that comes with you."

"I love you too."
