Chapter 78: The Cost of Likes, Part One

Time passes...

"You're lucky it's just a scratch." Mitsuhiko remarked, the Detective Boys were visiting Genta who had been admitted to hospital.

"We were worried, you know." Ayumi voiced. "We heard you were taken to hospital."

"Sorry." Genta apologized. "That Kagura guy protected me." he turned to the other patient on the bed beside him.

"It was unfortunate for us both." Kagura Sumito remarked.

"But because of me, your arm..." Genta muttered.

"It's not your fault." Kagura assured. "Don't worry about it. Besides, I might be able to use this."

"So, did they catch the culprit?" Genta asked Conan.

"Not yet." Conan answered.

"Darn," Genta cursed. "Who would do something like that?"

"Either way, they sure did cause a lot of trouble." Haibara looked around the ward to see the injured patients.

"All the patients here were collateral damage, right?" Mitsuhiko noted.

"Yeah." Genta nodded. "This Otsubo guy lives in Aobadai." he turned to the other patient on his other side.

"That's pretty far, right?" Ayumi wondered.

"I happened to be in Beika City, and look what happened to me." Otsubo stated. "I'm so unlucky."

"How truly unfortunate for you.." Kagura agreed.

"Hey, Kagura." Kochiyama Ko entered with Ibe Haruka.

"Are you okay?" Ibe Haruka asked.

"Who called us to visit him?" Kochiyama chided. "You're really unlucky." he noted, seeing Kagura's bandaged arm.

"But I'm going to get compensated again." Kagura stated.

"In that case," Kochiyama brought out his camera phone. "Smile, Kagura. Look happy."

"I'll earn more likes for you." Kagura posed for the photo.

"It started with a phone call made to this bank." Conan recounted the event that led to Genta being admitted to hospital; a phone call about a bomb threat was placed to the Yotsubishi Bank. "Shocked by the threat, the bank told all customers and employees to evacuate. However, the panicked customers cause collateral damage to the people who happened to be passing by in front of the bank. Pushed to the ground by the people rushing out of the bank, Genta and several others were injured and take to hospital. The phone used to make the call was determined to be a public phone near the bank. Because there was no explosion and no one explosive was found, it was thought to be a prank. Though the bank promised to cover their medical expenses and compensate the victims, it was an unfortunate incident for those involved nonetheless. You three seem unusually happy." he informed Kagura, Kochiyama and Ibe.

"Kagura experienced collateral damage about half a month ago." Kochiyama explained.

"I was out hiking alone." Kagura took over. "I suffered collateral damage from an un-exploded bomb.

"Unlucky, right." Kochiyama remarked. "But because of all the compensation money he received from the construction company, he was able to pay off all his debts at once."

"Kochiyama is pretty cheeky, too." Kagura added. "The next day, he took me back to the construction site; he used me to get more likes."

"This is it." Kochiyama showed Mitsuhiko the uploaded photo on his blog. "It's a good thing you were injured when you don't have any performances." he told Kagura.

"He's an actor in some acting company." Genta supplied.

"As a token of friendship," Ibe dug into her handbag and pulled out a flyer. "We're the Chonenten Acting Company."

"Come to think of it, isn't there a cafe with this name behind the station?" Mitsuhiko recalled.

"The chairman of our company runs that place." Ibe explained.

"Anyway, whoever called the bank, I'm sure they only meant the prank them, but they injured people completely unrelated to the bank." Kochiyama stated. "They must be feeling really bad about the stupid thing they did."

"They'd better." Ibe agreed.

"Let's have a drink tonight to cleanse you of this evil." Kochiyama told Kagura. "You'll be at your apartment, right?"

After Genta was released from hospital...

Upon hearing Conan's analysis about Kagura's 'unfortunate' incidents in under a month and suspecting it to be no accident, the Detective Boys split off to investigate.

The next day...

"Otsubo?" Conan gasped, the Detective Boys were alerted by the sirens of a police car and hurried to the nearby park where they found Otsubo dead and the police had condoned off the area.

"Do you know him?" Chiba turned to the kids.

"Yeah." Conan nodded. "Was he murdered?"

"We don't know the details yet, but he was probably stuck by a rock." Takagi supplied. "We think it happened around eight last night."

"You kids knew the victim?" Inspector Megure stepped in.

"You know the bomb threat made to that bank yesterday afternoon?" Genta reminded.

"Because it was a Friday at the end of the month, it caused a huge panic." Haibara added.

"Genta got caught up in it." Ayumi supplied.

"Otsubo was another one of the victims." Mitsuhiko piped in.

"And the night of the incident, victim Otsubo was killed." Inspector Megure mused. "We'll have to investigate to see if yesterday's bomb scare and this case are related."
