Episode Ignis: The Adversary and Eye Opener.
"So what's the game plan?"
"Find a motel for us to unify. Gotta lay low until we decide from here out."
"What about Iggy...? Doesn't he need help? Or go to a hospital or some sort?"
"US and Gil we have in our pockets? Beside...I trust that scumbag say otherwise."
"Huh...huh? Wait what?"
The Ravus ship had stationed itself near the Lestallum front gate tunnel, its hanger bay wide open and permitting the Crownsguard to exit themselves. The Ravus informed the boys that it would be wise for them to travel on foot, as the bystanders were growing increasingly frantic at the sight of an Imperial assault craft. Gladiolus agreed, as he awakened his companion, who had slumped from their grueling experience and scooped up Ignis into his arms. Argentum realized a coat rested over his shoulders and wore it instead; Gladio had his hands full. Prompto had been dormant due to exhaustion during the entire trip. Gently, he stepped onto the concrete road, careful not to wake his friend.
Prompto waved farewell as the elevator closed. A gust of wind picked up, swirling the boys' hair and sending it cascading down their backs. Clutching the Advisor close to his chest, one arm dangled while the other rested on his stomach.
"Aww man dust coming into my eyes!" Yelled Prompto as he shield his face using his arm. The Craft upright to the air and blend into the clouds above, consuming it completely.
"Let's go Prompto," Amicitia directed as he stroll into the tunnel. The sharpshooter follow Gladiolus heels in moments.
A pleasant stroll through the tunnel, illuminated by the soft light above, and the view of the distant mountains and clear blue skies were breathtaking. The echoes of their footsteps bounced off the walls, creating a rhythmic soundtrack as they walked. The cool air, freshened by the wind, provided relief from the intense heat. The whispering gusts, replacing the silence, seemed to embrace them all. Prompto apparently clutched onto Gladio's jacket for warmth, shielding himself from the snowy blast of Shiva.
Cars zoomed by, ignoring strangers in black on the road and even drove around, despite an immobilized, almost-dead person they carried. It was bizarre how outsiders were not too kind. Considering that Prompto had slightly burned clothes, Ignis looked unkempt, and Gladiolus was helping the two so the drivers wouldn't bother them or park to lend a hand. Also, exposing their tattoos, either frightening people away or making them believe they were dangerous, and Gladiolus preferred the odds of civilians not getting involved afterward.
"Soo..." Argentum broke the silence and began. "Since when did you trust Ravus so suddenly?"
"He did spare us trouble and time but we got Iggy safe and Noct in the Crystal. So that's the end of it." He said in monotone voice, his expression didn't flinch and look at the Tactician. Posing comatose, chest rising and falling rhythm, scar forming top of his nostril between his shut eyes, eyebrows and left visible gash. Scars from Lucii price has receded, promising sight, Gladio exhale through his nostril. Signification of health, but unresponsive. A huge relief and pissed his Ignis' action, a nuisance. Gladio shot his eyes back on the road, nearly halfway mark.
"Yeah...for sure. I still miss Noct..." Prompto voice decrease as he bow his head, glancing the floor in sorrow, couple exhale in process.
"I do too," he agreed. "Not a King's Shield if he's not present. Gotta do what we gotta do to survive now. I bet a gil if Iggy has a plan in deck." Gladiolus admitted, he was with Prompto. Losing a King to fulfill his calling and a friend. The sparring, banter, wrestling, competition he would miss, especially with Noct. His frown deepened.
"Iggy-san always does," Prompto said, shunning his feelings for Noctis for now and focusing on his friend who was in peril.
Silence kicked in, the two walked without exchanging words, halfway through the tunnel, almost to sanctuary. Prompto pull out his camera, scrolling his images he gathered. Satisfied that he took Iggy in the aftermath until he saw Noct and him together at Altissia, then another with the boys; four of them on Gondola, felt heart sank and ache, he stored to his pocket eyes forward, folding his arms and sighed, Gladio Fatigues sleeve was gaping for his small bare arms measurement.
Noticing Prompto concealing his camera, it was unbearably touching. It was ideal to change the subject. "How's your arm?"
Prompto transitioned his perspective to Gladio and smiled. "Oh it's fine actually! No potions! It just healed magically!" Prompto positioned himself and tried to roll up the thick layers of leather cloth sleeves of Gladio's jacket, revealing the bruises and scrapes on his right arm. Amicitia blinked several times in confusion.
"The hell? It healed that quickly?"
"Yeah, before we took off. I woke up and bam! It doesn't hurt as much it used to be. Well my entire body feel refreshed, actually." Prompto stated, uncurl his grip of Gladio jacket.
Amicitia blinked a few times, maintaining his unfazed expression and eyes back to the road. It could be the crystal, he thought. Has it done its magic? That was the first thing that came to mind. Seeking any other signs of fast recovery – he wasn't tired or sore, nor did the attack of the giants seem to linger. He thought of Ravus mumbling, as if he had discovered their situation. He didn't redeem why; the crystal offered no guarantees, only the magic of the Armiger from the King and the power of light to banish the scourge.
Awfully quiet passing minutes, and now the retainers arrived at the front of Lestallum. Prompto raised both his arms at the air in relief. Crowds on the street, Cup Noodles Truck stationed, which Amicitia first glance, pedestrian strolling, chatting, it's best to obscure. Gladio unfolds a plan to Prompto. He must roam the city and book a motel for indoors while he sneaks across alleyway and reaches the destination. Prompto nodded and started his objective. Gladio tiptoed through the street, leaning on the wall and peeking. When transparent, hustled to a nearby alleyway and tuck Ignis close to not anguish his limp body contact coarse wall. Pipes steamed to Gladio face as he squeezed himself and halted a pedestrian chatting and walking by. Poke his head out and yearn to motel.
Gladio managed to reach Leville through Alleyway without drawing attention and approaching the front step. He stepped in, a visible person over the counter as he organized papers behind the wall and stealth his way. One step at a time, concealing heavy duty Crownsguard boots and rose to upstairs. Surprisingly, Prompto had a door open and sway his hands to catch his attention, he proceed and the blond nodded and locked the door from behind.
The first idea was setting Ignis down on a bed gently and looking at the curtains that were illuminated by the sunlight. Unfortunately, he had to close the window. Prompto surfaced next to Ignis, and he hadn't awoken; he frowned. Heartbreaking as it may have been, Ignis remained motionless throughout their entire trip. It tormented the Tank, knowing that he hadn't made a single sound or even a remark about how grateful he was for being rescued. The Tank decided to slump onto a nearby couch and sighed, feeling relieved, but his gaze fell upon Prompto, who stood at Ignis' bedside.
"We should wait if Iggy wakes up." Gladio announced and straightened his back, and elbows rested on knees and glanced at the floor. It's wise to remain stationary and time until their friend wakes up.
Prompto agreed and seated himself at the end of Ignis' bed and pulled out his phone. Maybe some entertainment could pass the time. Pushing himself to lighten up, despite knowing Noctis and Ignis would tease him for it, he asked, "Do you wanna play King's Knight?"
"No,"
"Yeah...right, sorry." Prompto lower his tone and set his phone back to his inventory. Realizing his motion, he currently wore the Shield Fatigues coat.
"Oh, here Gladio, thanks for your jacket." Prompto said, one sleeve off and another to return its owner. Took a glance at his friend and claim his belongings.
"Yep."

A King cannot lead by standing still.
A King pushes onward always, accepting the consequences and never looking back.
"This memories..." Ignis lowly said to himself. He held his hand out, young Noctis held with both hands with a warm smile.
A pleasant feeling, nostalgic of his happiness. House of Scientia offer him to be his advisor at young age. His Majesty, he promised to look after Noct as a brother. An older brother.
Considering sacrificing his life, he extended it to his heart. He constructed and devised a plan; a chance in an alternate reality through Umbra time travel. He would cease this ruthless ordeal and create a new dawn...only to perish while channeling the power of Lucis.
I ought to have been more cautious. If anything were to happen to Noct.
But Gladio reminds him that he needs to move forward if he's going to keep dwelling on what he could have done.
An audience for King and Queen of Old has proven him worthy to wield their power. The Yore has spoken, and a trade for power was agreed upon. A price was paid in exchange for his life. However, one of the kings objected to this decision. Ignis said otherwise.
It wasn't blood, but his heart ached, dreadful to lose Noct again. Despite Ardyn taking him away for revenge against his liege, tormenting, taunting, Noct had nothing to do with his plot. It was the one true intention and ordeal. If the prophecy were true, if he was alive, he could prevent Noct from dying. Darkness blight and bring dawn to the world, there must be a way. The voice when he traveled deep into Zegnautus Keep… Crystal power to even surpass God itself? Is that veracious? If he was alive, he could have—
"Hey Ignis!" Young Noct greeted him.
He was dreaming. A dream based on his memories formulating into reality presumed his spirit already reach to the other side, nothing matter, Noctis was there "...Noctis?" he shyly responded.
Young Noctis didn't let go of his hand, instead gripping it even tighter. "Everyone needs you! I need you!"
Bewildered, what does he imply?
"Your Highness, it's a pleasure to be at your service," Ignis said, smiling. The fabric shard was a remnant of mortal life; a memory he wanted to share with those he cared for deeply, especially Noctis.
Perhaps this alternate reality I fantasize about would bring me a sense of peace. To be with Noct as a youth once more. To rewind the fateful day that changed everything. But... is it really what I want?
Young Noctis shook his head, pouting as he spoke in a louder voice, "No! You have to wake up!"
"What are you referring, highness?" Ignis questioned the future King, glancing to his blue eyes. Identical of the Crystal aura light, simply...eye catching.
His contact disrupted as the young prince pulled him closer to meet his eyes. "You're not done with your calling just yet, Iggy."
...Iggy? A moment, you preferably nicknamed if we were far fetch to redeem close-
Only if they developed close connections would Noctis call Iggy. Ignis shook his head and blinked several times, bewildered and confused.
Ignis remembered; he was really dead.
"Noct...I, yes. I did what I had to do; I could not undo what was done."
The youthful prince shook his hands violently and raised his monotone voice. "You need to wake up, please! We all need you!"
"Highness," Ignis' voice trembled. Was this pressure real or just a memory created by his own mind? As the light started to envelop the throne, panic struck, and he glanced at young King Regis Lucis Caelum CXIII, whose expression showed that he had achieved something that no one else could, including himself. The light swallowed him whole, the last words he heard from the King himself.
"You have done well, Ignis."

Ignis felt rather comfortable. No, he has to wake up and disconcerting his surroundings. His eyes lifted from heavy burden of stasis; the first color was beige of the ceiling. The familiarity of Lestallum: Leville. He took a deep breath... a rock hit his head to realize he's breathing? Wait, his brotherhood, where is — or is illusion alternate reality? Was he saved by...Noct? Fortunate his last capture before slumber of Noct saving him. Noct save him.
He raised his head, surprisingly feeling energized yet sluggish. He had to sustain, but his body wouldn't cooperate; he intended to. Propelling himself, his ears perked up, hearing shouts.
"Iggy!" A strong deep voice he call himself companion and liege of Lucian.
"Iggy!" Another voice added, high in spirit, pleasant to reminisce.
He finally pushed himself forward, only to have a huge hand clasp his shoulder to retain his movement. It was Gladiolus. His vision adjusted, and he saw Prompto rising from his bed, hurriedly approaching him. It felt so real, as if he were alive.
"Where am I?" Scientia inquiry. He was able to throw his legs over the side. A peak of curiosity, it was noon, he presumed, sunlight pierce its way through the door window. At present, this is not a fantasy. "How long was I out of commission?"
"Buddy, almost the entire time since Noct entered the Crystal we've been traveling. We just got here in Leville about twenty minutes ago." Prompto filled in the blanks for his friend who was still confused.
"Are you alright, Iggy? You had us worried there for a moment. Thought we lost you in a coma." the Shield calmly said, his other side to beat the crap out of him is irrelevant, most of his soul relieved to see Ignis alive.
Surveying his surroundings, eyes met those of Prompto and Gladio; he took a deep breath and exhaled, looking down at the carpet. He felt ashamed of abandoning Noct and his brotherhood. "I… apologize for any inconvenience, Gladio, Prompto. My decision was mine to make, and placing you and Noct in such a hostile environment was not fair. I am truly sorry." Ignis paused, knowing that the two had overcome Niflheim together, and they were supposed to lead their friends to victory.
Looking back at them, he softened his voice. "For my burden."
Gladiolus immediately interceded and resumed, retracting his hand from the tactician. "You have every reason to, so don't punch yourself. I'm just glad you're alive."
"Yeah, ditto," Prompto said, smiling. "I mean, we have lots of help from Imperial Commanders! Ravus and Aranea. Those two really spare us a bunch!"
In surprise, Ignis raised his eyebrow. "Is that certain? Why, I'm rather speechless on my end. I undoubtedly recall amends with Ravus in my terms of absence." Ignis moved his hand to push up his spectacles up but slipped out his mind that he didn't. Force of habit.
"Yeah, it just happens while you're out. But we made it in one piece, including you." explained Gladiolus, folding his arms to somewhat exposed temple.
"Were...you and Prompto injured? I shall make haste to remedy your wounds." Ignis slightly raise his voice, would aid his friends immediately despite his current status buried to himself. Insignificant of his own health, Ignis wanted to help, at least he can do.
As second nature for Ignis, his caring and motherly instincts kicked in immediately, causing him to avert Gladiolus' movements and settling him back down into his bed. Prompto swayed his hands in denial as well. "No, we're fine. You need rest more than we do."
"And so am I," Ignis said, interjected him. "I get the valid concern, but..." He was grasped by Gladiolus hand on his shoulder to station. He tried to repel the grip but stared down at his own arm. It was...fully functioning. The last time he had seen it was charred. The left arm witnesses the burns throughout his entire body. Carefully, he lifted his left arm and examined it.
"Like I said," Gladiolus resumed and continued to Ignis, "we're fine. Noct asked him to 'protect' us, and you're healed. I don't know what the hell he did, but it worked."
Resigned, Ignis grew curious about his companions' reactions. He lowered his arm and met their gazes. "Phoenix Down? Vitality was unnecessary?"
"Well, there was flower petals and a warm light around us; feel tangible to touch." Prompto stepped in, waving his arms around to mimic the past event.
Ignis placed his fingers on his chin, recalling lights and flowers, which related to the Prince's calling. A connection that suggested healing. His guesses, the Yore heeded his calling, the Oracle or Slyblossom, whatever Noctis had written in that notebook. "I daresay that phenomenon was no other than Lady Lunafreya. I suppose." He assumed.
But who was that curator acknowledge a tale of the old King Ardyn? The narrator was oddly strange from Pryna has foreshadowing before Tidemother unexpected encounter, The Bladekeeper. Ignis thought.
...Was Lady Luna guiding me?
"Luna? But how? She's haunting us now?! Is that why I-I healed?!" Prompto's expression was freaking out as he rubbed his bare arms.
"Prompto, this is no time for jokes," Gladiolus snapped, loosening his grip on Ignis and crossing his arms over his chest. His eyes narrowed, containing his temper. It was common to see them wrestling in camp, engaging in horseplay, or reacting to one another's mistakenly harmless pranks. Gladiolus had grown into the deuteragonist role.
"Sorry!" Joking, huh, even Ignis release a quiet chuckle through his lips. He adore his friends dearly. Goofy and tolerable, mildly and responsible, surprised, actually.
Gladiolus calmed his temper and stared at his awakening friend in a serious tone and expression; his mind wouldn't stop thinking and asked for his opinion. "So, tell us what happened with you-know-who."
Snatching Ignis's attention, he nodded once; perhaps it would be genuine and worth the intel he had gathered. A daunting task to describe his experiences, he began, "Ah, yes, well...".
Ignis had told him about Ardyn Lucis Caelum and his goals. Bringing him along to...torture him to death because Noct was taking too long to ascend, Gladio grew furious and Prompto remained silent, stuttering under his breath. Gladiolus would murder the man himself, notwithstanding the fact that he was two thousand years old, implausible, and would revive momentarily from the Beyond. He was a cruel man, his purpose, plot, revenge, and the Crystal. It was hairy, troublesome, and a stupid choice, but he highly appreciated them saving him. Gladiolus sighed in defeat, there was no way to eliminate the Lucis family for good, simply frustrating. Ignis continued, the Mysterious Voice led him as guidance and against an Accursed, leaking clues, another route. However, they concealed one piece of information, refusing to tell.
Gladiolus and Prompto share their load of adventure and obstacles they endure to save him, hanging Ignis to feel harrowing, felt accountable on past hours. Ravus push the Shield and Noct nerves but relationships refine thanks to Ignis. Petite heat of rational Noct as King and caring for Ignis, he purchased in his duty into the Crystal without hesitation. The trouble just for Scientia, scolded himself mentally, worrisome arise on companions for his. In shock, Ignis was told they witness the episode in camera feed recording and escaping Niflheim. Ignis gaped and shut his mouth briefly, the three were victims.
Gladiolus had his fair share of sparring with daemons, crucial, limited, and critical thinking. He gestured to the lad, who served them well on the front lines, as a true Kingsglaive. Ignis smiled warmly, hinting he grew up quickly for his age. Prompto provided abstract evidence of Luna's healing abilities, flexing his bare right arm where a scrape and bruise vanished. They would hike to Lestallum, a resort they could stay under the radar until further notice.
"...and that's how we got here!" Prompto finished off his sentence.
"I see, this is quite a problematic venture," Ignis replied, resting his hands on his knees in interest of storytelling and other perspectives.
"Cuz' we care, Mama Ignis." Prompto chuckled and elbowing Ignis' shoulder. But then the tactician was unamused and irritated, a soft growl underneath his teeth. Okay, yes, he nurse all of them, excluding Gladiolus, who can tend to himself. Mending their clothing, advise to proper care for themselves. Nag almost every day. No wait, every 10 minutes approximately. "I am not your 'Ma'."
In response, Prompto snickered. Good old Ignis.
"So what are we supposed to do? Ravus said that since Luna had passed, she could no longer hold back the Starscourge blanket Eos." Gladiolus added, concerned about Ravus foreshadowing.
"Well, I suggest a proposal to endeavor." Eyes lighten and glance towards the tactician, the blond and tank nodded simultaneously, so Gladiolus asks the Advisor idea."Okay, what's your idea?"
"Yea, give us a lowdown."
"Perhaps we split up and assign tasks to scavenge the Royal Tombs and await for Noct arise as champion. That way, we must prepare ourselves an upcoming apocalypse. However, our objective must be completed albeit the sunset. A mere challenge, I'm certain if we reform common faces to arrange, then my calculation it will lend us significant speed. I will fashion on each mission to particular circumstances."
"I'm all ears," the Shield firmly stated, crossing his arms across his chest. "Gladio, if you could inform Lestallum of the impending darkness, perhaps Holly could help us spread the word, giving us an advantage by utilizing the power plant for power and forming a defensive perimeter."
"Hold on now," Gladiolus interjected, loosening his grip on Ignis arm and raising his large right hand. "I need Iris here; don't want to abandon my sister. Let me go back to Cape Caem."
"Of course, she is our priority." Ignis nodded, smiling. He glanced over to Sharpshooter. "And Prompto."
"Yea?"
"I would consider you to unite in Hammerhead with Cindy. With motor vehicles and talents, they could benefit our survival. Perhaps Dino would be of assistance."
"Why him of all people? He just talks about gems and other stuff. I just want quality time with Cindy before the end...," Prompto protested, perking up to hear Cindy, but not Dino, a third wheel?
"Exactly what I mentioned. As I thought, Dino is a reporter and gem profession that refines into vehicles and weaponry, with news cast to the crowds, a high prosperity to hire hunters, any Glaives scattered for refugee around Eos."
"What about you, Iggy?" Gladiolus questioning his tactician task.
"I'll head to Cape Caem lighthouse with Gladio to announce the Intel we've gathered in good use. I will contact Marshall and Monica first, then the expertise of skilled and experienced guests to lend us a hand."
"Let me guess, the two who travel with our King. Weskham and Cid. You know, the shield of the King has recently passed due to the invasion of Insomnia. I refuse to bring up my relative who died in the last battle alongside the King." Gladiolus replied.
Yes... perhaps let them not mention his father. "Correct. I am certain that Dustin, Monica, and Cid would lend an aid. Let us begin."
"Before you do all that, get yourself polish or else you won't get all the attention from the ladies."
Gladiolus is right. Improper clothing and lack of energy will be a burden. He resigned. "Fine, I will alleviate myself with proper trends and...come again?"
"Bah, nothing, take it easy, we'll meet again, and I better see you kicking." Gladiolus laughed, unlocked the door, and exited the room. Prompto trailed the tank and closed the door after his footsteps.
"Duly noted." Ignis replied, watching the two exited and close. Rise from his comfort zone, nearly losing his footing. Now to the bathroom. Stepped in and...oof. His hair, distinctive scars, and dirt leech to his damaged unbuttoned top to the bottom of his courel insignia skull and revealed his temple. Eyesight dilating and examining his biceps and posture, minor cuts visible, but a huge scar across his chest passing to his arm where he wore the ring. Nervous system corresponding to his movement, which tally his report. Small chuckle slipped through his lips to remind Noct to take proper care of himself. Now, in utterly mess. Would be wise to conceal from everyone he accompanied, especially public and serve with Glaives. The minor slash above his eyebrow is impossible to mask.
Enough with the eye sores and faint ash scars, he turned the knob to hot water. Unbelievable filth, a nice steam rose within minutes filling the atmosphere. A faint footstep entered the motel, he paused and moved the direction towards the door. The person was either an uninvited guest or a familiar face. Ignis snapped one of his daggers to his right hand, the sharp blade aimed at the door. His breaths were shallow, as he leaned his right ear gently against the wooden birch door.
"Talcott, help us and provide you extra clothing, Ig. Also... where is it? A—ha! I found it! I can't call you specs if you're not wearing one!" A high and cheerful voice, Prompto. The legend who creates a matching nickname to his. Though Iggy was from Noct in childhood, he swear those two are damn similar. "Oh hey, I also got kebabs if you're hungry. The vendor was kind enough to give us free meals."
Scientia snapped his dagger into its sheath and smiled, "I'm quite famished and thank you, Prompto."
"No problemo Iggy-san. I'll set your suitcase beside your door. Gotta get some napkins and set the coffee table close so we can eat."
A few minutes later, the running water subsided as Prompto waited patiently in the armchair to eat with his friend. A door opened slightly, and Ignis shot a glance at him. The blond shot a glance at the luggage and then grabbed it all into the washroom. Prompto spotted barely visible scars on his forearms. The Ring. He had heard stories that whoever wore the ring would pay the price of their life. But Ignis was spared, unharmed, alive.
A few minutes later, Ignis stepped out wearing a leather shiny coat, a brand new shirt, and a pair of spare glasses. His hair was neatly combed, and he had slipped into new silver driving gloves. Prompto smiled, saying, "I'm giving you a 10/10 for your fashion sense, Iggy."
Ignis raised a brow. "Thank you?" Ignis walked over to the cabinet and saw what the motel had to offer. Well, look at that. Ebony coffee beans. "Would you like some coffee, Prompto?"
"Yes a cup will do."
"Did Gladio leave Lestallum?" Ignis questioned. Prompto took his first bite of kebabs and glanced to his friend's direction. "The all and mighty meat head got a date to take out. He prefers the out of this world crusine ride to a parade downtown."
"Ah, nothing can break his love for noodles."
An 18-ounce coffee grind beans at one hand and met with coffee maker, pour the amount twice than one serving into the filter and set time as Prompto sat silently. This is rather odd for Prompto remaining silence than slamming numerous questions to Ignis, to the point he couldn't respond to all the inquiries. Perhaps something in his the coffee spat out two cups of Ebony into clay decorated Lestallum style mugs, he approach, handed one to Prompto, he thanked him, and seated to available armchair, kebabs on the table. "Woo glad for you to join! Let's devour this already warm aroma seasoned meal to meet the one that is beating us, hunger."
"Indeed," Scientia agreed. Prompto finished one of his pieces of meat and went to the other one as Ignis consumed his food slowly and sipped his Ebony. It was awfully quiet between them; Prompto had a thought running through his mind. He noticed not once did he meet his eyes to the tactician.
He paused in mid-bite and met the clear green eyes of his friend as Ignis spoke up. "Would you like to share your personal thoughts?"
"It's... it's nothing." The stuttering was definitely a sign of a skeptical brick wall as he took another sip of Ebony and cleared his throat, gaze on Prompto. "As much as I don't enjoy the silence from you, not to interfere in your thoughts, but I am willing to support my young friend."
A long pause, Prompto sighed. He was personal and afraid, thinking his friends would disown or despise him because of where he came from. Rather than dwell on those fears, he wished for friendship and wanted to make friends. Noct, his best friend, had left; the remaining were present. Friends could be trusted, and Ignis understood as well. "It's just… Everything has gone wrong."
"May I ask, was it earlier? I... sincerely apologize for the inconvenience."
Prompto shook his head. "Well, besides that, have you ever seen the inside of Niflheim?"
"No, I was awakened in the Cargo Bay, meeting Ardyn - correction, The First King of Lucis," Ignis said, his voice wavering as he fought back nausea and goosebumps surfaced on his skin beneath his elegant clothing.
"Ah, well, you know... I—" Prompto exhale hastily "I was born there... in Niflheim. That's my birthplace. I was one of them. I was a clone of them, created as an army of Magitek troops that destroy Insomnia... I didn't get one minute to tell the others, but I refused to set my boot in the place where it all began." A strike of silence return filling the room once again. Prompto let out a deep sighed, traumatic, and...suffering. Prompto has been through a lot, painful experience, created as clone.
An eye opener for Ignis, for brief, the elegant gently rested his Ebony on the table and rested his right hand on Prompto left shoulder as he glanced up, sensing a warm grasp. "Prompto, no matter where you come from, you are an Insomnia resident. I guarantee Noct would be adequate what I say similar. He is our friend, after all. You have done no harm to living beings but aid people who are in need of help." Ignis let out a gentle smile and continued smooth tone fill the void of his heart."We are your family and a Glaive to serve our king, your friend Noct is a world to you. When the time comes, don't forget to share the load the ones you love the most; I am very pleased you vent the issues that burden you. If you need someone to talk to, the people you have met will always be with you."
Ignis is right. He despises Niflheim and the role forced upon him since birth. His kindness and caring are what formed him into the person he is today. Accepting the forbidden past, his compassion for helping others, and having the guts to express his feelings out to his closest friends. He would never have encountered Noct if he hadn't helped Pryna that day. "Yeah, it was all because of helping Pryna. I wonder how she's doing."
Prompto hadn't witnessed Pryna collapse and disappear when the white fur canine revealed the future to Ignis. Pryna had unfortunately passed away shortly after Lunafreya left the living realm. "Well, perhaps another time to meet Pryna. Maybe during the eternal darkness or during the preparations for the homecoming. Well, anyway, you are our brother. We're not in royal blood, but we are family no matter what obstacles hit you. Your past stays in the past, and I'm here for you."
The room became lighter than usual, warm and inviting. Argentum smiled slightly, a small tear forming on his eyelid and quickly rubbing it away with his wrist. Well, you look at that. A stubborn, concealed emotion and a tough youngster have shown up in Prompto's eyes. "Yeah, I get you. I won't see Noct for a while, hell, even years, after he wipes out this miasma of Daemons, after all this I hope we can travel around, all four of us, enjoying good times, hunting bounty...and as much as I hate camping outside, I have to admit, I'll miss it."
"I promise you, we will make it through together. As a team of four." Ignis smiled, reassuringly.
"Thank you Iggy."
"My pleasure."
Ignis grinned and released his resting hand from Prompto's shoulder. The two resumed eating, Ignis barely finishing his second portion while Prompto devoured his own. "So, Iggy," Prompto said between bites, "I got a question."
Immediate instant kicked in as Ignis thought. Oh dear...
"So, how does it feel to wear the Ring?"
Ignis nearly choked on his Ebony, "I beg your pardon?"
"The Holy Magical Ring that only accepts bloodlines of Lucis. Have you chatted with the Crystal? Or how does it feel to teleport like Noct does with Warp Strike? Is it awesome? Tell me!"
Ah, there's the nuisance fella he miss secretly. "Excruciating, regrettably, it is a flashing experience, and the power of mana flow through my veins, sending resourceful of magic where I can teleport and channel the power of the Crystal into my weapon."
"But I have their permission to use their magic. If you ask, they're from the old royal bloodline. I... even met with King Regis in the crowd."
"Really? What did he say?" Prompto's face glowed with delight and curiosity. With a bid of his Crystal power, similar to Noctis, he stared in awe. The image of King Regis in the afterlife, meeting Ignis in a daring battle, was like something out of a movie.
For Ignis, he stares at his lap, gripping his clenched teeth. His journey, grasping his dying brother's hand, the day he vowed to save the world, he curses. Umbra offers an opportunity, a chance to weave a new path of survival. A given thought to regain his clarity and vision. The priority is Noctis. His heart sinks, and his plan will lead to another cycle of Noctis' death.
"He tried to spare me, I have a potential role for Noct, we all do, but I refuse to let Noct die in God's hand to protect others. I simply can't..."
Ignis inhaled and exhaled slowly, clenching both of his fists tightly in his lap. "I simply cannot let this happen again. Never again, and I will do anything, even give up my own life, for Noct."
"Iggy...," Prompto stretched out his arm to comfort his friend, but distance stood in the way; he rested his hand on the armchair, but Scientia didn't budge. "And so, the Kings and Queens have lent me their power, but at a cost of my life. I agreed to their terms that I would do anything."
That's deep to hear. Prompto thought.
"Hey, it's okay, Iggy. We were all at edge to save Noct and you. It was inevitable and beyond our control. Astrals, even they were with us to guide Noct and all of us." Prompto tried to ease Ignis, lowering his tone. Knowing a gruesome, uneventful experience for Altissia Luna wedding turn upside down, he can't blame him for mutual feelings the four endure.
Sort of effective, Ignis met Prompto's eyes, didn't forget the main issue he was wearing the Ring of the Lucii. "Did you beat Ardyn?"
Ignis relaxed, revealing his emotions by pushing his glasses back up onto his nose as he finished eating his Ebony. "I highly doubt, before he vanished, he would return for revenge; after all, he is immortal."
Concern written all over his face, he grabbed a napkin and wiped off the grease from his fingers and chin. "Is he going to kill you if he comes back? Is it some kind of bad omen?"
"Again, we can not assume what his true intention is with me, but I believe his only goal was to set up Noct into the Crystal, which succeeded in his favor."
Good, I was going to be your twenty-four hour bodyguard for the rest of your life, phew. Hey, at least you have a photographer following you and people think you're popular. Eh?" Prompto joked, throwing trash into an empty plate. He pulled out a camera and started acting like a paparazzi, stalking or whatever the crowd thought.
"Cease and desist, please, and thank you." Ignis retorted, straightening his back. There is only one stick kebab and half on his plate, probably not famish, but his favorite coffee still stands above all quality of life. Prompto laughed, the expression of Iggy face of annoyance and bittersweet, yeah definitely entertaining.
"Oh hey, speaking of photos, I took one when you passed out in rubble after Noct left. Wanna take a peek?"
Oh bloody, hell.
Ignis choked on Ebony, faintly coughed, and held his fist hover his lips to conceal leak of black bean coffee. "...Pardon?"
Prompto rose from his seat and immediately pulled out his camera to reveal him unconscious with the progress of healing within. The scars were visible until they were left to now, flesh and healthy. Well, hinder them but hidden in his attire. Just staring his picture, why did Prompto have an audacity to snap the worst scenario of all places and him!
"Do me and Astral a favor and eradicate that picture right now." Ignis scowled. This is embarrassing and just downright rude to snap him while he was out.
"Nah, this is my prize of Iggy! The one who wore the forbidden Ring and still alive till this day! It is storytelling that no one will never forget your heroic deeds for Noct and everyone!" Prompto rises from his seat and hugs the camera close to his chest. He was backing away towards the door, slowly.
"May I repeat my request again?" Ignis slowly rise from his seat, furrow brows with a growl.
"Oh hey, look at that time, I gotta meet with Cindy now, see ya, I'll send you text!" With that, Prompto dash out of the motel in speed of light. Footsteps fade from the distance and muted room, just wasn't amused of this. Grunted to himself, inaudible tone, he reminds himself that Prompto remains silly and downright childish. So he pardon, for now.
Just let out the resigned sigh and start clearing the table. Mug empty and manage to gather trash and mugs with one. On the other hand, Prompto stood, leaning on the wall in front of the motel room of Ignis. Something caught his attention as Ignis told his experience now glued to his mind. What does he mean by 'again'? So the journey and story he was told to guide Noct to marry Luna and become King to merge nation was a hoax? Ignis mentioned God is going to Kill Noct?! How does he know? Probably insane? A paradox? Time traveler? A foreshadowing?
No, he knew Ignis well thanks to Noct, he would never lie. Maybe his sanity towards him and Noct wandering in woods, also not arriving at specific time when the two ended up coming home 5 hours later after Assassin's Creed Festival. Oh, don't forget to mention disappearing without telling others, and they were crying like hounds to find them but meeting him and Noct at Chocobo Festival, keeping a secret from him. But if he has a plan that assigns him and Gladio, he has a very damn reason to hide his companions who carry Ignis to Lestallum. He believed Ignis had a secret plan going on. Perhaps he proceeded to announce his plan on the following days. Argentum pulled out his phone and dialed Cindy number as he sneaked back downstairs and wall through the lobby toward the exit.
~xx~xx~
"Sis, I need you to go with Iggy and I as we arrive in Cape Caem."
"Gladdy? What's wrong? Aren't you supposed to be in Altissia? How do you get back in Lestallum?" Iris questioned, concern through Gladiolus phone. Seems the siblings were communicating quite some time after he consumed his Big Cup of Noodles, empty big cup was left out on balcony.
"Long story, just need you here, safe. I have to do something in Lestallum and—"
"No!" she yelled, causing Gladio to pause "What is going on? Where's Noct? Is he okay?"
Fourteen seconds, he hesitated, not fond to lie his sister. "He's not here."
"Oh... I was wondering because the radio precast Lady Luna passed not too long ago."
"So you heard." Gladio tensed. It is being spread rather quickly than expected. The radio would be rather useful to broadcast the upcoming apocalypse.
"Yeah... is he with the others?"
"No, he's in the Crystal, ascending as our champion. We won't be seeing him for a while. Just do as I say and get things ready, got it?" Gladio voice soften, it's best not to say aloud in Lestallum street. He was near the parking lot, low density crowd. A view of missing meteorite and vast mountain and slightly cloudy skies. One hand on railing and other on phone beside his ear.
"Yeah... sure thing, Gladdy." The young Amicita hung up without warning. Silence took over her spot, and Gladio lowered his phone and tapped the hang-up button. He stared at his phone and then back to the Disc of Cauthess. The intense battle between gods and men. Where the turning point happened, and Ardyn intervened to support the others in fulfilling his desire. The brute clenched the railing tighter; he hated this.
He hated that not his role as a Shield, but his friend is gone. For long duration or millennia. What has it become a simple road trip to catastrophe in simple journey. Snarled in anger, grind his teeth and properly toss trash away of eaten noodles into the public trash bin. Would be inconsiderate leaving litter in the parking lot. He shoved his phone back to his back pocket and heard a familiar voice approaching, calling his name.
"Yo Gladio, there you are!"
It was Prompto, sprinting to him, Gladio turned 180 degrees and met his gunslinger companion. A gentle wave responded and cleared his throat. "Hey, big guy, whatcha doing here? Did I disturb your date?"
"Not at all," He announced and continued "how's Iggy?"
Arrive and stand tall, shoulders back, and maintain good posture as you greet him. "You know, he won't be able to function without his morning cup of coffee in his hands. I'm going to put some makeup on while I wait for you; I don't want him looking unkempt after he drags himself out of bed."
Gladio softly chuckled. "Sounds good to me."
"So I called Cindy, and she said she'd get us the Regalia. A transport back to Caem would take around twenty minutes. That way, I hope she'll give me a lift back to Hammerhead. And if she could cooperate..." Prompto said, excitement in his voice at the thought of seeing his queen again after such a hectic journey. "What about you?"
Gladio shrugged his shoulders and said, "Just a chat with my sister, that's all. At any rate, I don't like the idea of splitting us up, but I believe Iggy has a plan at his disposal to resolve this bullshit, so then I'm in."
Prompto's eyes squinted and his voice suddenly changed to show doubt, but he shrugged it off and said, "Yeah... I know he does. I'm just amazed at how he comes up with ideas so quickly. He says it's a meme now, heh. But he did say something by accident when he was thinking about it. It felt like the Iggy I knew; letting his emotions run wild and letting words slip out that he didn't want to say to us."
"What do you mean?" Gladio asked, crossing his arms over his chest and lifting his eyebrows.
Prompto lean close, first analyze his surroundings, no eavesdropping or creeps. He said, "Iggy said again, the battle, prophecy, and knowing Noct... died before!" His voice screech, pupil of his became erratic of panic and disbelief.
In surprise, Gladio's eyes widened, his posture stiffened, and he scowled in a moderate tone, asking, "Damn, what the hell?"
Now that he mentioned it, Ignis he knew wasn't the Iggy they knew. A man like him pushes forward, and the future lies ahead since the Oracle passed. The story told that without the Oracle detain the Scourage blanket the star, hell upon all living beings in the planet. As King Regis cared Noct and his friends, reminiscence of Regis' retainer travel around Eos.
Gladiolus muscle tensed, inhaled and blinked, composure first, then demand answer "Iggy probably hit his head or asswipe of First King manipulate his mind to believe bullshit, but you have a pretty damn solid point." Gladio glanced at Prompto, calm and stroic. A Goofy ass kid, he may be a pain but an intelligent individual who understands his friend and solves mysterious matters. Sure enough, he's a grown man, proud he is.
Resulting Prompto grinned "That means a lot big fella'."
Despite the fact the story add up to the description, it was fairly adequate that Ignis they knew behavioral was not only he is straightforward, organizing and instructing roles for the group, but he came from another world. As they thought. This world is indeed strange phenomenal.
"So Iggy in the Motel is from another world. The damn question I have in mind, is he one of us or a deceived fucker has any shady idea to screw with us."
"I dunno bro, he seems the real real Iggy I talk to." Prompto nervously said, surely Ignis and him have a moment of endearing conversation. Sweet and bitter communication of personal thoughts, especially his past. No way that Ignis would lie to him, would he?
"Pardon me..."
A voice so familiar, a load of pressure filled the air became intangible to bear. Gladio and Prompto turn to the left and spot young stylish, classic, fancy tactician stood, discerning look of fear written on his face. Ignis stared at the two, eavesdrop the conversation unintentionally. Prompto approaches slowly to Ignis, his heart aches upon meeting him, standing still. But was averted when Gladio immediately raised his arm, gripping his bare left arm in defense stance.
The air grew thick, uncomfortable tension. 20 feet apart on parking lot, sky sun glare shaded by clouds in impeccable timing. Ignis simply stares an emotionless face, observing his friends. He spoke out of words that weren't meant to be towards Prompto because feelings have unleashed.
"I got a few question to ask you, Ignis."
Prompto tried to elevate down Gladio arm, concerned. "Gladio! What are you—"
"Can it!"
"Gladio!" Prompto snapped, wriggle out his grasp, he was about to leap above Gladio muscular arm, but his grip on his bare arm is tough to pry due to his size.
"I will answer, Gladio, Prompto." Ignis finally said.
The two opposite size and muscular men paused, glancing at his friend. Ignis' expression is now sorrow, exhaling, and large heavy breath. "I will... simply tell you the truth."
"Ignis," Gladiolus began, stern and anguish, the first time he call him his full name, which is serious "If you're the Ignis we know, saying Noct dying again for hella' no reason, then who the hell are you?"
Ignis clench his fists, a sense of eyes piercing through his very soul, pressured of burden and pain. Stiff lungs and irregular short breaths. Knowing Gladio and Prompto must've inquired, pondering to know, hearing Noctis going to die. Impossible, not with Astrals are on their side, right? Noctis could have used the Ring to purge the tainted on the star and save their planet. What was lead to believe, based on legacy from Lucis and the Oracle from generations.
After his hesitation to speak, Ignis met them with Gladiolus hazelnut eyes, Retainers show skepticism what revealed his mind. Sandpaper voice to his comrades. Seems he spoke of words at the wrong time during the stressful event. Perhaps now it's a good time to reveal his comrades who he really is, entrusted friend since he was young and chosen alongside with the prince.
"Ten years ago..."
Gladiolus and Prompto, bombshell at awe, an unbelievable expression imprinted all over their face, mostly Prompto. Well, Gladio jaw dropped, and Prompto mumbled wow under his breath. As they stood, in echo of voices across the street of Lestallum, the sun is out and gush of wind subside, now audio to hear Ignis has to say. The two remained stationary and ears perked, awaiting to surmise from the tactican.
"Indeed, I came from the future, Umbra has given me an opportunity to- well I ask Umbran if possible to change the branch to anew. I will admit, whatever Prompto said Noct is dead is adequate, he mimics from mine on mistake." Ignis said, calm, buttons his feeling he can bear the new consequences sharing towards the ones he trust is up to their decision.
It was quite resourceful, so Gladiolus straightened his back, muscle tense. "So you are from the future, yet we nearly get ourselves killed." Now, Amicitia muscle is noticeable when he uses his energy and grips his palms into a ball, shaking infuriated.
Even Prompto glanced at Gladiolus back to Ignis, afraid and betrayed. There is a lot in mind for young sharpshooter, but he can think of one of his best friends accepting his duty as King. Was it his choice of matter? Bound to march in straight line, Imperials, the loved ones, especially the Accursed. Of course it was him. He appeared after the Insomnia fall. To taunt and torment, toying and baiting the group since.
Gladiolus gritted his teeth, eyes and brows furrowed in disgust, and shifted his glare to the stairway, refusing to accept Noctis death. A companion; a friend and brother. His inner spirit aches, knowing Ignis honesty is pure and righteous. Prompto examined his friend, who stood in front of him and descended his arm. Gladio wasn't to blame, as a Shield to protect and strengthen his friend. Ignis witnessed his death!
"And I thought the Astrals are on our side, but not the infuriating red-headed Ifrit that despise humanity. Oh, even Luna pleaded them, right?" Prompto said curiously.
Nice speculation, Prompto is sure the brightest of all, well, except his personality to get everyone skin. "Well, all but two." Ignis replied.
"What do you mean? Who or what fiend would go against us?" Gladiolus conjectured, he wasn't meeting his eye yet.
"Bahamut, he was never born in the star. He arrived at the birth of this star."
"You mean Destroyer? His name is meant Soul-Eater and Destroyer of Stars? He doesn't exist." Gladiolus reckoned.
Ignis nodded. "Precisely, he directed us to guide Noct, the prophecy we were lead to. I have met the King of Old, as come I was spared from my future, I was valuable to sacrifice. I will say that if we waste precious time; to act before the incoming darkness—"
"Hold on," Gladiolus protested, his voice rise slowly, wrath of loud Titan "our journey to Altissia, taking Noct to marry and this asshole of First King been shitting on us, convicted a crime towards Lucis. We're fucking screwing up and all of us killed Noct! So what you're saying in your timeline, he's already dead?!"
"Gladio..." Prompto repressed his voice. He wanted to jump in, but it's best not to provoked the brute when he's enraged.
"Yes, the true and formal enemy is Bahamut. As for Ardyn Lucis Caelum, he is an adversary, but a mere fool. Perhaps, if I can sway him to join forces to premise, rather killing two birds in one stone-"
"Wait you mean, making him part of our team?!" Prompto gasped, eyes widen, is Ignis going nuts after the sins he had atone for massacre of his hometown? Many have died because of him, many have fought bravery in history to save humanity. Joining forces of evil is beyond their ideal.
Ignis cleared his throat once more after getting interrupted, again "Again, the true enemy is Bahamut, if we unite everyone and Noct harness the crystal into the ring, he can eradicate Starscourge and the true enemy. If we can—"
"No," Gladio retorted, sharp turn to Ignis and glare at him in his soul, vexed in complexity ideal from Ignis threw the limit "we traveled across the nation to get your sorry ass using the damn ring for sacrificing yourself and yet, in audacity of you said we should unite the man who murder thousands of innocent lives to our party? Have you ever realized he tried to kill you?! Not now!"
With that last response, Gladiolus stormed off, sped off towards the stairs, and disappeared inside the streets of Lestallum. Prompto didn't budge but stood quietly as the Shield pardoned himself. Ignis understands he couldn't stand in the same room with that monster, proclaimed to be First King. Gladio strongly contention towards the Accursed, applying Ardyn to the Lucis party. He agreed it's shady and could be a trap, but if he can reach into the Beyond, the conscious voice pierces into his mind, elaborating 'Power to surpass the god itself'.
Bathed in doubt, Ignis resigned, a heavy breaths, eyes closed behind his clear spectacles, fist is clenching. Perhaps it's a tad out of bound associated with his proposition in such blasphemy to Once who Guide the Prince Retainers and merge to fight the common enemy. To the other eyes, the past of Gladio and Prompto are not easily pursuade, Ignis does not blame them, but he will atone his mistake for not sharing his idea not too soon. Acustom to his self-loathing, his decision led to the others at risk. His remorse cause the changes and broken characters.
In the end, this was a butterfly effect.
Negative thoughts flooding in, underestimate the past of his companions, Prompto felt the air intangible density rose. The disbute between two affects him, witnessing Noct and Gladiolus conflict in Niflheim. Ackknowledged Ignis' rapport, it come to conclusion Prompto rest his confidence at his hands. He approaches Ignis. "Hey, Iggy, this isn't your fault. I'm sure Gladio needs some time to chill off."
"I do not need your pity, Prompto. I will accept my demeanor and approve you and Gladio decision from here on out." Ignis staring at the concrete pavement parking lot and Prompto on the right side of perspective peeking.
"Iggy," As Prompto says, using both hands and grasp Ignis clenching fist tightly, "I believe you. Although for me I'm lost as a goblin in the tunnel to understand your hypothesis, but y'know, the future Ignis has seen and bare the bull crap of friggin' doomsday. We all love Noct, and of course, Gladio and I are going to do what it takes us to save him. It's a sudden rush of new propaganda, which is hard for us to believe, but we do for sure."
Ignis leer Prompto in silence, the young shooter reliance rubbed on him. "Gladio must take the hardest hit. Heck, I know all of you to the bone. Just how Astals is supposed to help us when we depend on it. I'm one thousand percent positive with all the Chocobo I can hatch. We've been here for you. If you have a reason to be with us, this exact timeline, then you have a chance to save Noct and all of us."
"As I would make amends to all of you, I promise you, I will bring Noct home." Ignis said, straightened his back, stern expression, and grabbed Prompto hand with his free hand in brief. Then let go, Prompto followed suit and smiled.
"What would I ever do without you, Prompto." A soft small smile rose, Ignis relaxed. A relief to hear the two are pitch in. Of course, he knew Gladiolus and Prompto in bottom of his heart.
I will succeed, no matter it will cost. I will make a possibility to prosper, for Eos.
"Bah, you can owe me a whip of your crusine after that, eh?" Prompto grinned and nudge his bare elbow to Ignis.
"Certainly."
"Hey Ignis?"
"Yes?"
"Say, did Cindy and I got married in the future? How do I look? Handsome? Taller and muscular? I bet Cindy loves me when I get these gains!" Prompto cheerfully said, hovering around Ignis for question.
Ignis cleared his throat, lifted his index finger, and pushed up his spectacles above his nose "Er...Well, I did not catch a glimpse of you or anyone during the darkest days."
The young eyes widen, a sudden feeling inside sank. Immediately, he responds, since the former friend from the future caught the word see, it is eternal darkness, doesn't mean his eyesig— "Iggy, what happen to you?"
Ah, yes, a slipped out of his mind momentarily, this is past Prompto he's engaging with. Unknowingly his timeline occurred, a price of Lucii was his eyesight. Explaining who he was, vigilant but 30s mindset Ignis' memory and personality versed to another timeline. Prepared and effiecient to proceed in manner before the end of Eos as they once lived.
"Perhaps next time,"
A/N- I know it's been a while, busy life and forgot to do this. I was planning to set this as 5 chapter, but I got more idea as days go by. So I decide to tweak the Good ending to normal chapter. It would suck to leave details missing. I dunno if people still read this but I enjoy the bros. It's mostly focus on bros, a few sideline like non-playable character deserve spotlight. So please be patient and I will do the next chapter. As you may wonder that Ignis episode leave a LOT of missing detail so this story will fill it all. I hope. Not great on grammar too.
See you next time.
