Chapter 125: My Beloved Dog Pan-kun Is a Good Boy
Time passes...
"Here it comes, Mitsuhiko!" Genta tossed a baseball at Mitsuhiko, the Detective Boys were playing baseball one afternoon. "Try catching my full-power pitch."
"Full-power, huh?" Fumio droned, Mitsuhiko catching the ball effortlessly.
Just then, the group heard a series of furious barking and a woman's scream.
"Pan-kun?" Yamada Sachiko blinked, letting go of Pan's leash and the dog ran off before turning to face the masked robber in front of her.
"Guys, make as much noise as you can." Conan instructed.
"Someone, help!" the Detective Boys started shouting.
At the park entrance...
"Thank you for saving me." Sachiko was relieved. "That was so scary."
"He came back." Ayumi heard Pan barking and the Shiba Inu ran up to its mistress.
"That dog does whatever it wants." Haibara muttered.
"Onee-san, do you know why you were attacked?" Conan asked.
"I have no idea." Sachiko admitted. "I'm not rich nor do I have any special skills. "
"I wonder why that lady was attacked." Ayumi mused after Sachiko returned home with Pan.
"The culprit wanted her brooch." Genta declared.
"If it's real." Fumio pointed out.
"We can safely assume a flawless emerald that size is a fake." Haibara agreed.
"He must've been her stalker." Mitsuhiko suggested.
"When the victim herself didn't realize she had a stalker?" Conan refuted.
"Then, it must be the dog." Ayumi guessed.
"Shiba Inus are fairly common; not a breed you'll normally bother to steal." Fumio shook his head.
"It's curious, isn't it?" Conan smirked. "Let's look into it."
In a nearby neighborhood...
"Look." Ayumi pointed, spotting Pan on the kitchen counter of a house. "Looks like her name is Yamada-san." she spotted the nametag at the gates.
"Looks like that dog misbehaving is business as usual." Haibara pulled out Sachiko's blog.
Just then, they heard Sachiko's scream from the living room.
"He ran away again." Ayumi gaped, the Shiba Inu fleeing out of the door once the kids burst in.
"Why don't you guys just give up already?" Fumio sighed, showing the two masked robbers he already had Takagi on speed-dial.
"If you don't calm down, you'll regret it." Genta warned.
"You'll pay for this." the robber with the red mask swore and retreated after his partner was taken out by Genta and Mitsuhiko's baseballs.
After Takagi and Chiba were called in...
"Takahashi Hajime, 22 years old, unemployed." Chiba read off the robber's profile. "A minor criminal with three previous offenses. "Takagi-san, this mask resembles the ones worn by the culprits who robbed the jewelry store two days ago. A gem-studded tiara and armband were stolen. They're worth several million yen."
After Takahashi was taken into custody...
Ayumi was playing with Pan on the patio when the dog barked and leapt over the wooden wall, causing everyone to chase after it.
On the road, they could only watch when Pan jumped into the backseat of a car and it drove off.
"What is this?" Conan picked up a piece of broken pastry that was crushed under the car's tire.
"Apple pie?" Fumio took a whiff.
After Takagi and Chiba were called in again...
"Detective Takagi, I'd like you to look into something." Conan requested, his mind churning.
At the vet...
"Looks like you didn't find what you were expecting." Conan remarked, entering the vet clinic with Takagi and Chiba.
"How'd you know I was here?" the unmasked robber was stunned.
"Because you kept attacking her." Conan replied. "There must be a reason why you kept attacking her despite her being on her guard. Since Yamada-san couldn't figure out why she was attacked, then the only reason would be Pan-kun, When you link the attacks to the jewelry store robbery to the dog, you'll assume the dog ate the jewels. However, all the stolen gems were too large to be swallowed. Therefore, what if it was something else; something you were willing to take risks for to acquire. Like your knife, for example."
Returning to the park later...
The group followed Pan back to the park where they saw it dig up a hole with various discarded objects buried in it. Pulling out a rubber ring, Pank closed up the hole and ran over to another hole and unearthed it. Burying the ring in the second hole, it closed up after retrieving a mug cover and went over to a third hole.
"Looks like we found it." Fumio remarked, the group finally locating the knife in the third hole.
