Staying up all night wasn't what Rachel had planned for herself. As a diligent student, she always made sure to complete her homework on time in order to maintain her grades. However, the constant issues between Chloe and Maxine were starting to wear her down.

The instant connection between the two had brought about a whirlwind of emotions for Rachel - anger, disappointment, jealousy, and frustration.

For years, Rachel had been best friends with Chloe, and she felt like they were destined to live happily ever after. She had gained everything she ever wanted from their friendship. But now, with Maxine in the picture, their bond was slowly disintegrating. With the added stress of dealing with Victoria's constant provocations, Rachel was on the verge of losing her sanity. It seemed like the chaos would never come to an end.

To make matters worse, Rachel's own love life was far from perfect. She had been talking to an older man named Hank whom she had met at the community center after school. Their conversations were dull and uninteresting, time consuming, and Rachel soon discovered that Hank was secretly married with a family of his own. It was not a scenario worth speaking of, but due to her recent break-up with Frank, Rachel saw no other choice but to use Hank to her advantage.

She devised a plan - if she could invite Hank to the Halloween party and flirt with him a bit, perhaps it would spark some jealousy or interest from Chloe. Not only will this would let her know if Chloe still felt anything for her. Rachel was desperate to keep her best friend at any cost, what they had was special. Chloe meant the world to her, and she was willing to break hearts if it meant gaining the affection she desired the most.

Deep down inside, Rachel knew she loved Chloe more than friends. This realization only occurred to her when she started losing her best friend to someone else. It took this heartbreaking experience for her to truly understand what she had been taking for granted all along. However, Rachel pushed these thoughts and emotions aside and focused on the task at hand.

Without wasting any time, Rachel pulled out her cellphone and searched for Hank's number. She quickly composed a text message inviting him to Hayden's Halloween party. It was a calculated move, albeit a manipulative one. But in Rachel's mind, it wasn't necessarily foul play if Hank had approached her first, using their relationship as a secret affair.

I'm going to a Halloween party tomorrow night was wondering if you'll like to come? xoxoxo

The message has been sent, Rachel anxiously awaited Hank's response on her bed. She knew that her actions might have consequences, but she was determined to succeed in this plan from start to finish. Saving her friendship with Chloe was paramount - even if it meant playing with fire and potentially breaking hearts.

Fourteen minutes had swiftly elapsed since the first rays of dawn swept through the windows of Rachel's cozy bedroom. She was already meticulously dressed, showcasing her unique fashion taste. Adorned in a vibrant yellow and black flannel shirt, the fabric elegantly draped over her shoulders, revealing a hint of her pristine white crop top underneath. Her black jeans, artfully distressed and adorned with intricate patterns, added a touch of rebellion to her ensemble.

Completing her fashion statement were her trusty black and white converse sneakers, accentuating her youthful energy and love for simplicity. Just as Rachel admired her reflection in the bedroom mirror, a melodic notification ding resonated from her nearby dresser. The sound prompted an immediate reaction, causing her to swiftly retrieve her cellphone, its sleek screen illuminating her eager face. Carefully, she began examining the message, aware that this particular notification held importance.

Sure just send me the address on where it's located. But I can't be there long I'm taking my kid Trick or Treating and don't want the wife to get suspicious.

Okay, with confirmation that Hank will go, Rachel lets out a sigh of relief. It is as if a weight has been lifted off her shoulders, for she no longer has to worry about facing the upcoming challenges alone. Yet, amidst this elation, there remains a faint pang of sadness deep within her heart hoping to be let out. She realizes that Hank's absence throughout the entire endeavor will force her to alter her carefully crafted strategy.

Nevertheless, Rachel knows that time is of the essence. With determination burning in her eyes, she swiftly gathers her belongings and hastens out of her bedroom for today. Every morning, like clockwork, she embarks on this ritualistic journey down the sunlit corridor to check on Chloe, her steadfast companion.

Arriving where she wanted to be, Rachel stood at the threshold of the door that held her long-time friend Chloe on the other side. If she had to be honest, her heart was welled with apprehension as she raised her hand, rapping on the door three times with a gentle yet purposeful knock. Each knock she gave out sent a chilling vibration throughout the stillness of the corridor, permeating the air and signaling her presence.

"Come in," came Chloe's voice from within, sounding as calm and soothing as ever. Rachel hesitated for a moment, gathering her courage, before pushing the door open and stepping inside. The familiar smell of marijuana wafted past her nostrils, filling her senses and bringing a sense of comfort and familiarity.

Popping right in Chloe's room with permission Rachel's nervous facial expression was evident the minute she came in. "Alright, so I've been thinking about what we can do to Victoria..." she trailed off, biting her lip. Chloe raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to continue.

"I was thinking," Rachel began hesitantly, "we could maybe hide some of her stuff in the middle of the night. Like, move Victoria's clothes to a different dorm room or something. Frame somebody, and done. No more bullshit. She'll be so freaked out when she can't find her stuff, and it'll give us some time to breathe."

"What are you eight? That's so embarrassing, probably below a prank level, come on." Chloe said rolling her eyes. "Besides, you know Victoria, she would get mad for only one minute and go back to normal with things. We need something that's going to sting her for real."

Rachel bit her lip, thinking. "What about if we–"

"No," Chloe interrupted her, shaking her head. "That's way too obvious Rach. We need to come up with something that will really make her squirm instead."

"How about... we, uh, we plant some evidence on her?" Rachel suggested tentatively. "Like, something that she wouldn't want anyone else to know about hidden information. Something embarrassing or incriminating. That way, it'll be harder for her to brush off."

Chloe thought for a moment, her eyes narrowing in consideration. "You know, that just might work," she said slowly. "But we need to be careful. Where can we even get her personal information anyways?"

"Principal Wells office of course," Rachel grinned, knowing that Victoria had a habit of snooping around there when she was bored. "We can plant some incriminating papers in there and leave a few hints leading back to her. She'll go nuts trying to figure out who did it and won't be able to focus on us."

"Now that's actually pretty clever. You know, we can even make it look like someone else did it too, just to throw her off. Maybe even write a note threatening to expose her if she doesn't leave us alone. That'll really send her into a tailspin." Chloe said, smiling back.

Rachel nodded in agreement, feeling a small thrill of excitement at the prospect of pulling off such a meticulous plan. "Alright, so tonight we'll sneak into the principal's office after everyone's asleep. We can plant the evidence and leave a trail of clues leading back to Victoria's room. She won't know what hit her."

"Hold on a second, Rach. What kind of items that would lead back to Victoria? I don't have anything that belongs to her." Chloe said, raising an eyebrow.

"Good point. How about her cellphone? We sneak in her room while she showers or whatever take it, plant inside the office and bam! Plus, it'll be nice seeing her run around campus looking for it. Rachel explained, her mind racing with the details of their plan.

"Brilliant idea!" Chloe exclaimed, clapping her hands together in excitement. "We can trash Principal Wells office later on tonight, plant her cellphone to show Vicky was there and she'll be expelled. Easy task."

"Woah, woah. Come on Chlo, that's not the plan. We're trying to prank Victoria here not get her expelled." Rachel explained, her eyes wide with disbelief.

"What do you mean it's not the plan? This is perfect! We'll scare the living daylights out of her and make it look like she was responsible for trashing the office." Chloe argued back, her voice rising in excitement.

Rachel rolled her eyes, trying to reign in her friend's enthusiasm. "Let's just stick to the plan of planting her phone in the office, alright? We don't want to overdo it."

Chloe nodded, a small smile playing at the corners of her mouth. "Fine, we'll do it your way. But just so you know, this is your chance to show Victoria who's boss."

"True, but Vicky keeps things interesting at Blackwell even if it's hella annoying," Rachel said, shrugging. She then walks over to Chloe's window, looking out at the sun setting on the horizon. "I just hope this all works out, you know? We're treading on thin ice here."

Talking about this gave Rachel so much anxiety. The thought of executing the first part of the plan was normal enough; after all, sneaking into Victoria's room during her nightly shower routine and taking her cellphone seemed like a simple enough task. But as Rachel delved deeper into the intricacies of the plan, she realized it wouldn't be as easy as she initially thought. The true challenge lay in sneaking around the campus undetected while Chloe's strict stepfather patrolled the area like a hawk. Every step would have to be executed flawlessly, each move calculated to avoid any suspicion. Rachel felt her heart race as she contemplated the high stakes involved in this mission.

Likewise that was only the beginning. For the next part of the plan, Rachel had to figure out a way to sneak into Principal Wells' office, which was most likely locked. She knew that such a feat would require finesse and creativity. One misstep, one noise, and the whole plan would crumble. The thought of navigating those seemingly insurmountable odds sent a chill down Rachel's spine. And then there was the ominous task of sneaking back to the girls' dormitory without being caught. The nocturnal silence of the campus enveloped her thoughts, amplifying her apprehension.

Every creaky floorboard, every flickering shadow seemed to conspire against her. The consequences of failure were unbearable; not only would Chloe's trust be shattered, but Rachel's reputation among their peers would be irreparably damaged. Yet, despite the ever-present fear that gripped her tightly, Rachel knew this daring escapade was worth a shot.

The potential rewards outweighed the risks. Friendship, loyalty, and justice hung in the balance, and Rachel could not let fear dictate her actions. She racked her brain for ways to successfully navigate this treacherous course, then, out of the blue Rachel noticed Chloe's attention span wandering towards her cellphone.

A flicker of annoyance passed through Rachel, but curiosity got the better of her. She decided to approach Chloe, calmly sitting on the edge of the bed, observing her friend's agile fingers floating across the screen at an incredible speed. It didn't take long for Rachel to deduce that the source of Chloe's distraction was none other than Maxine Caulfield, who seemed to have an uncanny ability to consume her friend's attention. Rachel's intuition had proven correct, confirming her suspicions. This revelation only served to heighten Rachel's will power to succeed in their plan.

"Let me guess, you're talking to Maxine." Rachel said, a hint of sarcasm in her voice.

Chloe looked up, surprised to see Rachel standing there. "Yeah, what about it?" she asked defensively.

Rachel rolled her eyes and let out a small sigh. "It's just that you seem kind of preoccupied with her lately," she said carefully. "I mean, she's cool and all, but you don't need to be hella glued to your phone 24/7."

"Hey, I can talk to whoever I want, okay? You don't own me, Rachel." Chloe retorted, crossing her arms over her chest. There was a flash of annoyance in her eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a hint of uncertainty.

"I know, and I'm sorry okay? I just... miss us, you. You're my best friend, Chloe. Feels like I'm slowly being replaced or whatever." Rachel said, her voice softening.

"Yeah, I get it, Rachel, really I do. It's just... I don't know. Maxine is hella cool, and she gets me. We have fun together." Chloe shrugged, not meeting Rachel's eyes.

Rachel sighed heavily, knowing that her next words would be tough to hear. "Listen, Chloe, I'm not saying Maxine isn't cool or that you shouldn't have friends, but she's not you. I miss our friendship. I miss the old Chloe who used to be adventurous and brave. Who would go on crazy schemes with me just for the hell of it."

"Well things change and Maxine makes me happy. Anyways, I asked if we can hangout and she said yes. If you want to come I don't mind," Chloe said, her tone still slightly defensive. "We're going to hangout at the Junkyard a bit before school starts you should come."

Thinking about it for a moment, Rachel knew she couldn't force Chloe to choose between her and Maxine but she also couldn't help feeling a little left out. "Sure, I'll come." she said finally, forcing a smile onto her face.

Grabbing their belongings, both Rachel and Chloe hurriedly left the confines of the girls' dormitory, driven by an urgent purpose that propelled their every move. The truck they climbed into roared to life, its tires eagerly devouring the asphalt as it surged forward, directed unyieldingly towards Maxine's humble abode. As the vehicle raced along the twisted road, the atmosphere within remained shrouded in silence.

Additionally, this absence of words did not create an uncomfortable air of awkwardness; rather, it bestowed upon them a serene tranquility. The wind, like an invisible ally, danced against their exposed skin, leaving behind a soothing sensation of freedom and liberation.

Within the confines of Chloe's glove box, Rachel needed to release her stress. She found comfort and perhaps a momentary escape from the tumultuous events that had led them on this extraordinary journey.

Extracting a cigarette from its secret hideaway, she ignited it delicately using her trusty blue lighter. The mere act of taking that first drag sent ripples of euphoria coursing through her veins, filling her body with an intoxicating high that temporarily released her from the burdens of reality. Everything became less stressful, less anger, and more freedom of living.

Observing Rachel's captivating transformation, Chloe felt an almost magnetic desire to partake in this act as well. Leaning towards the glove box, their eyes fixed intently on the traffic light before them, she too seized a cigarette, aligning her actions with Rachel's earlier route. With a flick of her own lighter, an incandescent flame erupted, providing her with a gateway to momentarily slip away from their impending destination.

As Rachel exhaled swirls of smoke, her mind drifted away to a realm where worries and uncertainties seemed inconsequential. She gazed out of the window, witnessing the world whizzing past in a kaleidoscope of colors and fragments of long forgotten memories.

Lost within this ephemeral sanctuary, she found herself facing an uncontrollable anger she had long suppressed, embracing a certain catharsis offered by the dance of smoke and fire. Chloe, too, allowed herself to surrender to the allure of this shared experience.

Inhaling deeply, the smoky tendrils intertwined with Chloe's thoughts, drawing her into a place where vulnerability intertwined with strength. As she exhaled, it was as though her worries and personal issues dissipated into the ether of sheer nothingness, leaving behind a brand new sense of clarity and purpose.

"After we done hanging around with your new 'bestie' at the junkyard we should spend some alone time together afterschool. Just us." Rachel suggested, stubbing out the cigarette and throwing it out of the window.

"Bestie? Damn it Rachel she's just a friend. You're not getting replaced." Chloe snapped, the words stinging as they left her mouth. She took a drag from her cigarette and exhaled slowly, trying to calm her nerves.

"Whatever. It sure as hell feels like it…" Rachel mumbled, looking out of the window once again.

Pulling out her cellphone, Chloe's fingers swiftly glides across the screen as she began composing a message to Maxine. The words flowed effortlessly, proclaiming her arrival outside Maxine's house.

Meanwhile, Rachel sat there staring out the truck's window, her face etched with bitterness and disappointment. Her heart ached, knowing that this one precious moment she had with Chloe would soon be overshadowed by the intrusion of Maxine.

To be honest, Rachel had never held any ill-will towards Maxine. In fact, she believed Maxine to be someone she could potentially become friends with. Maxine possessed qualities that Rachel admired, and she yearned for a deeper connection with her. However, a cruel twist of fate had intertwined Maxine with Victoria and her gang of misguided souls. This unholy alliance made it nearly impossible for Rachel to truly get to know Maxine. Apart from Rachel's longing for camaraderie, little by little, the fragments of their once-charismatic friendship began crumbling away with each passing day. Chloe was increasingly drawn towards Maxine, leaving Rachel feeling neglected and ignored.

Their daily tête-à-têtes turned scarce, replaced by cold silences and fleeting interactions. The weight of these circumstances weighed heavily on Rachel's almost broken heart. The constant feeling of being overlooked, tore at her very core, creating a chasm between her and Chloe. The playful laughter and late-night escapades, which once defined their friendship, threatened to become mere fragments of a distant memory.

"Alright, she said she's coming out in a bit," Chloe finished her message and tucked her phone back into her pocket. Rachel nodded, not trusting her voice to speak. They sat in silence for a moment, the tension palpable. Finally, Chloe broke the silence.

"Rach, I want you to know that I'm not trying to replace you or anything. Maxine and I are just friends, you know? I care about you too and I want us to keep being friends." Her words felt hollow, even to her own ears.

Rachel turned to look at Chloe, her eyes filled with hurt and disappointment. "Look, I know you care, Chloe. It's about the time we spend together. It's about the way we used to be, you know? Before all this." She gestured vaguely in the air, her throat tight with emotion.

Chloe looked away, avoiding Rachel's gaze. "How we used to be? Yeah, canceling our plans to spend time together or how you used to put everyone in front of me? Yeah, I missed how we 'used' to be too." She snapped back, the hurt in her eyes mirroring Rachel's.

"Let's not okay, Chloe? We don't want to make your little bestie uncomfortable when she comes." Rachel said, turning her head back to the window.

"Fine. Whatever you want to believe Rachel." Chloe mumbled, leaning back against the truck seat.

The silence that followed was heavy with tension, making it difficult for either girl to focus on anything other than their own thoughts and feelings. The unsettling atmosphere seemed to magnify the weight of their emotions, causing Chloe and Rachel to experience an internal struggle as they awaited Maxine's arrival. Their minds were consumed by memories and doubts, swirling like a tempest within them. Chloe's thoughts drifted back to the night they had spent together at the dance, where a flicker of innocence and genuine connection had sparked between her and Rachel.

Every detail of that evening danced vividly in her mind, from the way Rachel had looked at her to the warmth of her hand within Chloe's grasp. It was a moment of purity and vulnerability, but now, guilt seeped into Chloe's heart. She couldn't help but blame herself for letting their relationship venture into uncharted territory.

On the other hand, Rachel's mind was a tumultuous whirlwind of anger, hurt, and fear. She desperately clung to their friendship, terrified of losing Chloe but sensing the fragile threads slipping away.

While attempting to convince herself that she could navigate any adversity, deep down, she knew she couldn't face it alone. Every passing minute only served to fray Rachel's already delicate nerves.

The air grew charged, like an impending storm foretelling the upheaval on the horizon. Glancing surreptitiously at Chloe, Rachel noticed the tension gripping her friend's shoulders and the white-knuckled grip on the steering wheel. The gravity of the situation weighed heavily upon them both. Rachel wished she could turn back time, undo the hurtful words that had created this chasm between them.

She yearned for a way to mend the widening wound in their friendship, to bring back the harmony that once existed. In this critical moment, as their hearts beat fiercely against their ribcages, a glimmer of hope remained. Rachel hoped that Maxine's arrival would serve as a catalyst for healing, a chance to bridge the growing chasm. After what felt like an eternity, they heard the faint sound of approaching footsteps. Rachel's heartbeat thundered in her ears, attuned to the rising crescendo of anticipation. Slowly, she turned, her eyes meeting the figure approaching the truck.

It was Maxine, a captivating vision with her flowing river of silky brown hair. Her genuine and radiant smile filled the space, charging it with an energy that was both electric and unsettling. Maxine's entrance seemed to mark a turning point in their intertwined lives, but none of them could foresee what awaited them on this convoluted journey. As Maxine settled into the truck, the weight of silence lingered. Each girl's thoughts spiraled alongside the unspoken truths that hung in the air. Questions loomed, anxieties pulsed, and hopes teetered on the precipice of uncertainty.

"Hey, guys! What's up?" she chirped, her voice carrying a hint of nervous excitement. She slid into the passenger seat beside Rachel, their bodies brushing against each other as they adjusted themselves.

The tension in the was highly sensitive, like a thick fog that had descended upon them, obscuring their vision and suffocating their words. Maxine had been working up the courage to have an important conversation with Rachel and Chloe for weeks now. It was no easy task, as the weight of her words bore heavily on her.

In the meantime, Rachel tried to muster up a smile, but it felt forced and hollow. She couldn't shake off the uneasy feeling that lingered within her. Chloe, on the other hand, seemed to be more at ease with Maxine's presence. Her cheerful nature acted as a shield against the tension, and she was eager to lighten the mood.

"Hey, It's Early Birdie Maxi! How's it going first mate?" Chloe greeted, flashing her signature grin. Maxine couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over her, grateful for Chloe's infectious energy. She returned the smile, though it didn't quite reach her eyes.

"Early Birdie Maxi? First Mate? That's alot of cool nicknames, you better hold onto them Maxine." Rachel said, trying to sound more cheerful than she actually felt. It was clear she was still wary of Maxine, unsure how to feel about her presence in their lives.

"Anyways," Chloe said, trying to break the tension, "we were just about to head to the junkyard. Are you sure you want to come hang out with us?" Her tone was hopeful, as if she were genuinely interested in spending time with both Rachel and Maxine. "I don't want to force you or anything if school is important to you right now. We just going to hangout for about ten minutes tops."

"No, no, of course I'd love to hang out!" Maxine exclaimed, her enthusiasm contagious. She glanced at her right over to Rachel, searching for some sign of approval, but Rachel's expression remained guarded. "It's the last chance to have some fun before school starts, right?" she added, trying to lighten the mood.

Chloe smiled reassuringly at Maxine, grateful for her efforts. "Fuck yes! My thoughts exactly Caulfield! We don't want to spend our last free hour together being all serious and stuff. We're just going to hang out for a bit, maybe play some music or something."

Rachel, still feeling somewhat guarded, nodded in agreement. "Yeah, that sounds good." Her voice was softer than usual, but it was clear she didn't want to ruin the moment for Chloe. She glanced at Maxine out of the corner of her eye, studying her features. She was pretty, there was no denying that, but there was something about her that made Rachel feel uneasy.

Staring the engine again, Chloe didn't waste a moment in getting the truck from point A to point B. She drove recklessly down the somewhat empty street, surprising everyone that Officer Berry hadn't stopped her yet.

Cruising down the road, Maxine couldn't help but shoot suspicious stares at Rachel, who seemed solely focused on the road ahead. Believe it or not, Maxine had the same guarded expression as Rachel. Ever since that fateful night when Maxine and Chloe drank wine at her house and spilled their confessions, Maxine had gained a clear vision of who Rachel Amber truly was.

A manipulator, a seductive individual who could detect lies effortlessly and even preemptively know someone's actions before being told. All these qualities pointed to one undeniable fact – Rachel couldn't be trusted. And now, as they found themselves alone at the junkyard, Maxine was determined to confront her face-to-face.

Stepping out of the truck at the junkyard, the girls paused to take in of the cool, crisp air. The sun was just beginning to rise, casting a warm glow over the landscape. The towering stacks of scrap metal, a bunch of lost and found old items, and the vast expanse of rusty vehicles created a post-apocalyptic atmosphere that seemed to mirror Maxine's turbulent emotions.

"It's beautiful here," Maxine commented, taking in the scenery. She walked over to a rusty old car and sat down on its hood, kicking her feet against the dirt.

"Right? Let me go find some bottles so we three can really have fun! Rachel show Maxine our hideout I'll meet you guys back there." Chloe exclaimed, bounding off towards a nearby stack of discarded tires. Her energy seemed to be a welcome relief to both Rachel and Maxine, who exchanged awkward glances.

"Fine, but you better not take long. Follow me Maxine." Rachel forcefully winked at the girl, leading her to their hideout. Now walking together, Rachel couldn't help but feel the weight of Maxine's gaze on her. She glanced over her shoulder, meeting the other girl's intense stare. There was a strange mixture of fear and curiosity in Maxine's eyes, and Rachel couldn't quite place it.

As they made their way into the heart of the junkyard, Maxine's heart raced with both anticipation and anxiety. This was the moment she had been waiting for – a chance to confront Rachel and see if her suspicions were true. She knew it wouldn't be an easy conversation, but she was determined to get to the bottom of things. Rachel seemed oblivious to Maxine's inner turmoil and casually leaned against an old car. The morning light highlighted her flawless features, giving her an almost ethereal appearance. But Maxine saw past the façade, knowing that beneath that mesmerizing exterior lay a master manipulator.

Taking a deep breath to steady herself, Maxine approached Rachel ready to expose the model's wrongdoing. "We need to talk," She spoke firmly, her voice laced with an undeniable sense of authority.

Rachel's expression remained unreadable, and Maxine couldn't help but wonder if she was being drawn into another one of Rachel's carefully constructed webs. But she pushed those thoughts aside and focused on the task at hand – confronting Rachel head-on.

"Let's talk about you lying straight to my face," Maxine said, her voice low and steady. She locked eyes with Rachel, refusing to be intimidated by her cool demeanor. Over at the left side Rachel's expression shifted slightly, a flicker of surprise crossing her face.

Stopping in her tracks Rachel refused to go any further and looks at Maxine with a rising flash of anger. "What are you talking about?" she says trying to play dumb but her voice shakes slightly. Maxine can see right through Rachel's act and feels a surge of confidence.

"Don't play dumb with me Amber, you lied straight to my face about your relationship with Chloe." Maxine said, her voice overflowing with anger. "You told me you were just friends but I know better now. You've been manipulating her this whole time, haven't you?" she asked, taking a step closer to Rachel. "Playing with her emotions, putting her in last place. Well guess what? It stops right now." She clenched her fists at her sides.

Rachel's face contorted into a mask of rage as she lunged forward, her hands gripping Maxine's arms tightly. "You have no idea what you're talking about!" she hissed through clenched teeth. "I never meant to hurt Chloe. We were just having fun, that's all."

"Yeah, fun. Dark confessions with a bit of wine gave me everything I needed about you." Maxine snapped back, shrugging off Rachel's grip. Her heart raced, but she refused to back down. "So why did you lie to me?"

"I didn't lie, I just didn't think it was anyone's business but mine and Chloe's." Rachel took a step back, trying to regain her composure but the anger was still there.

"Well, it's my business now," Maxine countered, she stood firm and didn't make a single movement. "and I'm not going to stand by and watch you hurt her any more."

"I guess you learned from your leader Vicky on how to be a total bitch," Rachel spat out, her voice dripping with venom. She crossed her arms over her chest, her expression cold and defiant. "I'll admit, you were hella cool at first but know your place okay? You don't want me as competition, you're just going to lose."

"Competition? Get over yourself I can best you in my sleep when it comes to Chloe," Maxine snapped back, unable to hide the hurt in her voice. She took a moment to relax and breathe, trying to calm herself before continuing. "Look, Rachel, I know you're not the type to back down, but I'm not going to let you hurt her anymore. You can try and push me away or try to make me look like the bad guy but it won't change the fact that I care about her and I want what's best for her."

"You don't know me or the relationship I have with Chloe. The only thing you heard was the cons!" Rachel shouted, her voice echoing through the junkyard. "You think you know everything, but you're just a naive little kid who does photography who's been taken for a ride." She stepped closer to Maxine, her eyes flashing with anger. "Stay out of my way or you'll regret it."

"The same can be applied to you aswell. I'm going to call things off with Chloe so she can finally reflect on who she really want to be with in the future. But trust and believe I'll be there for her through the very end rather she picks me or you." Maxine said, her voice calm and steady. Her eyes met Rachel's, unyielding.

Rachel's face twisted into a sneer. "You think you can just come in here and take over? Act like you run things around here? You're not even a real friend to Chloe. You're just using her for your own selfish purposes."

"You know it's bad talking about yourself Rachel. I'm done playing nice. If you want competition then so be it, Victoria told me everything I needed to know about you." Maxine challenged, her tone low and dangerous.

Rachel took another step forward, her eyes narrowing Maxine down. "Oh, so now you're going to take her side? You think you're better than me?"

Maxine's voice remained steady. "I never said I was better than you. I'm just saying that I care about Chloe and I want what's best for her. You might not see it that way, but you can't deny that our friendship has always been more important to her than you."

"You and her relationship important? Oh, Maxi, what a joke!" Rachel laughs, the sound harsh and bitter. She shakes her head slowly, as if she can't believe what she's hearing. "Chloe and I, we have something special. Something real. And you think you can just come in here and ruin it? Just because you had a little fun painting the school walls like you're children? You don't even know her!" Her voice cracks on the last word, betraying a vulnerability that Maxine hadn't expected to see.

"She's my partner in time." Maxine answered, taking another step closer to Rachel. The air between them seemed to crackle with tension as they stood mere inches apart. "And nothing's going to change that."

"And she's my Firewalk." Rachel retorted, her voice barely above a faint whisper. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. "You don't know what we've been through together, Maxine. You don't know the things we've shared, the secrets we've kept. You're just some random girl who showed up here and now you think you can take her away from me?" Her words were tainted with desperation, but even as she spoke them, she knew the truth in what Maxine was saying.

"I don't want to take Chloe away from you, I'm just trying for all of us to be friends here," Maxine said, her voice softening. She took another step closer, until their bodies were nearly touching. "The only reason you're like this is because she's slowly moving on from you romantically and you can't accept that."

Utter disbelief swirled within Rachel's mind, desperately searching for a logical explanation for Chloe's sudden detachment. She longed to protest, to fight against this cruel twist of fate that threatened to unravel the ties they held so dear. Furthermore, she tried to open her mouth to speak, a silent realization washed over her like a crashing wave. Maxine's words echoed in her mind once more, a resounding truth that Rachel couldn't deny. How could she have been so blind?

The signs were there all along dropping hints, concealed beneath the surface like shards of glass waiting to be discovered. She had been so consumed with maintaining her relationship with Chloe that she failed to notice the ever-growing rift between them.

"You're right," Rachel whispered, her voice audible above the sound of the wind rustling through the junkyard. "I haven't been a very good friend to her lately, I'll admit to that truthfully." She hung her head, ashamed of her actions. "I just didn't want to lose her."

Reaching out she laid a hand on Rachel's shoulder and spoke gently. "I know it hurts, but it's not about losing her. It's about letting her grow and be happy. Chloe deserves that." Maxine sighed, her expression softening. "I'm not saying I want to take her away from you, but I want to be there for her in a different way."

"Well I want to be there for her in a different way too!" Rachel slaps Maxine's hand off her shoulders and steps back. "I actually do have feelings for her I was just so blind to see. I'm not going to let you ruin what we have."

Maxine frowns, taken aback by Rachel's sudden aggression. "I'm not trying to ruin anything, Rachel. All I want is for Chloe to be truly happy for once. And if that means she needs someone different in her life rather it be you, me, or somebody else, I'll still be there for her." She takes a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. "We don't have to fight about this. Let's just agree to support Chloe and let her figure out what she wants."

Rachel stands there, her shoulders slumped in defeat. She knows Maxine's words hold truth, but it's still hard for her to accept. Her eyes drift over to Chloe, who's still searching for bottles around the junkyard excitedly. "I just want what's best for her too," she finally says, "I never meant to hurt her she is my best friend afterall."

"I know you do, Rachel. And I know we can both be pretty intense at times, but I think Chloe deserves to have both of us in her life. We just have to find a way to make it work, you know? How about, I don't know, maybe we can start by being civil to each other, huh? At least until she decides what she wants, right?" Maxine suggested, offering her hand in a gesture of truce.

"No, I don't think so," Rachel said, shaking her head. She glanced back at Chloe, still searching for bottles, and her expression softened. "Look, I know you care about her, and I appreciate that. I just want to make sure that whatever happens, she knows we're both here for her. But," she added, turning back to Maxine, "I'm not going to let you push me out of her life that easily."

Maxine sighed, understanding Rachel's hesitation. "I'm not trying to push you out. I only want to be there for her when she needs me. And she does need someone different in her life right now." She took a step closer, her expression earnest. "We both love her, and we both want what's best for her. So let's agree to support her, even if it means faking our friendship. Because at the end of the day, all that matters is that Chloe is happy."

"Alright, let's give it a try," Rachel agreed, extending her hand to Maxine. They shook hands firmly, sealing their temporary truce. As they turned their attention back to Chloe, who was now surrounded by a pile of bottles.

They turned their attention back to Chloe, who was now surrounded by a pile of bottles, a sense of relief washed over them both. Thanking something posting showed up. After a tumultuous journey, filled with ups and downs, the duo had finally managed to find a way to bring a smile to Chloe's face. They were committed to doing whatever it took to ensure Chloe's happiness.

Walking side by side, they cautiously made their way towards the hidden hideout nestled within the depths of the junkyard. It was an eerie place, where discarded remnants of the past found solace amidst the chaos of the present. As they ventured deeper, Chloe's laughter echoed through the rusty metal objects, breaking the silence that enveloped the abandoned realm. Rachel took her place on the worn-out couch, finding solace in its embrace. She gazed intently at Chloe, whose vibrant spirit breathed life into the desolate surroundings.

The pile of bottles, now a testament to their journey together, was carefully placed on a small table beside Rachel. Chloe, ever so full of energy, eagerly joined Rachel on the couch, sharing her contagious happiness.

Being mindful of Rachel's glaring gaze, Maxine opted for a chair nearby. The tension between them was noticeable, a result of past jealousy and conflicts.

Though Maxine had always been there for Chloe as a loyal friend, Rachel's suspicion towards her had yet to wane. Maxine understood the depth of Rachel's protective nature; she knew it stemmed from their shared history and the traumatic experiences they had weathered together. But Maxine wasn't backing down when it came to something she cared about, no way.

"Okay we all going to play a little game," Chloe gets up from the couch and started walking around the room. She paused for a moment to grab one empty beer bottle and looked at them with a mischievous grin on her face. Maxine and Rachel exchanged glances confused on what the girl in question was planning.

"Sure, I'm game. It was fun playing truth or dare with you yesterday at my place Chlo." Maxine chimed in, her tone light and teasing. She glanced at Rachel, noticing the other girl's stiff posture and guarded expression.

Rachel tried her best to remove the wave of annoyance wash over her as she watched Maxine and Chloe giggle together. "Yeah, sounds fun. Let's do it." She forced a smile, hoping it didn't come across as too fake.

Chloe grinned. "Alright, alright. Since I'm the coolest, I'll go first. Truth or dare, Rachel?" She asked, tossing the bottle cap idly into the air and catching it again. Rachel narrowed her eyes, her expression blank.

"Truth," she said, crossing her arms. Rachel was still wary of Maxine, she kept her cool and stayed focused.

"Okay, truth: who do you like more, Maxine or me?" Chloe giggled, as Rachel's face turned red.

"Well, the answer is easy, you of course. I wouldn't want to get in the way between her and Warren y'know?" Rachel glares at Maxine piercing through her soul.

Unbeknownst to Chloe, Maxine had been conversing secretly with someone recently, an act which pierced Chloe's heart with a sudden surge of anger. How could her new friend be keeping secrets from her? Thoughts raced through Chloe's mind, clouding her vision and distorting her perception of the world around her.

Caught up in a whirlwind of emotions, Chloe found herself transported to a realm where everything she held dear vanished into thin air. The comforting walls of their hideout dissolved before her eyes, leaving her exposed and vulnerable. The laughter and warmth that Maxine brought into her life disappeared into the vast abyss, leaving behind a hollow emptiness. Suddenly, like a jolt of electricity snapping her back to reality, Chloe regained control of her emotions.

In that moment, Chloe made a silent vow to herself: she would not let her true feelings show. She wouldn't let anger fracture the bond they shared; instead, she would confront Maxine in a more calmly manner and find out the truth behind this hidden conversation.

"Well, I-Is that true Maxine?." Chloe's voice trembled with anger as she looked at Maxine, who had turned pale. Rachel could see the guilt in Maxine's eyes, but she remained silent, waiting for Chloe's reaction.

Chloe's words stung Maxine like a slap across the face. She had been hoping to keep the conversation light and fun, but now it seemed that things had taken a turn for the worse. "What? No. Warren is super cool and all but we are just friends. I repeat just friends. He's only my science partner not romantic partner. There's nothing going on between us." Maxine said, her voice wavering slightly. She shoots a intense glare at Rachel for the mess she just now created. Forget the truce, it was war.

"You know what, let's stop here. School starts in like ten minutes." Chloe stands up, grabbing her backpack and slings it over her shoulder. "I'll meet you two near the truck." She mumbles, heading towards the exit.

The second Chloe, a vivacious friend of theirs, fully left the area; Maxine found herself gripping ahold of Rachel's shirt, pulling her closer as if trying to search for answers in her eyes. The anger that saturated Maxine's heart, now unleashed, was potent enough to make even the very earth quake in trepidation.

"Are you cereal right now?!" Maxine's voice echoed through the hideout, raw with disappointment. "We had literally just created a temporary truce, and already you couldn't handle that one simple task without throwing unnecessary drama into the mix! Thanks alot Rachel."

"Don't act all innocent. I can say the same about you," Rachel retorted, her tone slowly building up with anger. She pulled herself out of Maxine's grasp and stepped back, crossing her arms defensively. "What was the purpose of saying you two hung out yesterday at your place, huh? Just say yes to playing truth or dare and be done with it. Nobody gives a shit what you guys did!" Her eyes narrowed, daring Maxine to meet her gaze.

"Even so, that was a shitty move and you know it." Maxine shouted, anger coursing through her veins. She couldn't believe how quickly things had gone south.

They were supposed to have this one moment to let loose and enjoy themselves before the inevitable onslaught of school and responsibilities. Instead, they were back at each other's throats, tearing each other apart. In the heart of the hideout, Rachel and Maxine stood locked in a tense conversation.

Their heated exchange had reached its height, leaving Rachel overwhelmed with anger and frustration. In a sudden burst of emotion, Rachel pushed Maxine out of her way. It was a raw display of her intense displeasure, as if physically manifesting the inner rage within her. Maxine, taken aback by Rachel's aggression, stumbled backward but quickly regained her composure.

When Rachel hastened towards the exit, Maxine found herself left standing alone in the now empty hideout. But before she could follow suit and leave, something caught her attention—an enigmatic message scrawled in bold black writing on the cold concrete wall. Her eyes widened as they traced the distinct shapes of two names—the names that Maxine, regretfully, couldn't resist reading. As she stared at those meticulously written letters before her eyes, a sudden sense of foreboding washed over her fragile being.

CHLOE WAS HERE

RACHEL WAS HERE

"Well, I'm also here. And I'm staying." Maxine whispers to herself as she grabbed a nearby sharpie off the table. She dribbles up a few words in a bold font. After finishing up she checked out the new improvements.

CHLOE WAS HERE

RACHEL WAS HERE

MAXINE WAS HERE

Once she placed the sharpie back where it originally was found, Maxine didn't waste any time and swiftly walked out of the hideout, eager to catch up with Chloe and Rachel who patiently waited for her in the truck.

She hopped into the vehicle, and the engine roared loudly to life, ready to propel them towards their destination - Blackwell. Known for her undeniable need for speed, Chloe bolted out the junkyard like the flash as the truck sped off, leaving behind a cloud of dust. The adrenaline coursed through their veins as the wind whipped through their hair, filling the atmosphere with an indescribable rush. Maxine like always felt captivated by the exhilarating sensation, her heart ablaze.

It didn't take long for them to navigate the familiar route Chloe always took and reach the cloistered walls of Blackwell Academy. Pulling up to the entrance, Rachel was the first to disembark, ascending the stairs with a sense of distance solitude. Her body language revealed remnants of anger from the clash that transpired at the hideout between her and Maxine.

Inside the truck, an ambiguous silence settled between Maxine and Chloe. Time seemed to elongate, hanging precariously in the air like a suspended breath. Both were consumed by an unspoken restlessness, their minds agitated by an unknown force. The weight of their shared apprehension intensified as moments stretched into an infinite abyss. Then, as if guided by an invisible hand, Maxine's mouth seemed to move autonomously, as if possessed by a tale begging to be told. She began to weave words together.

"Chloe, we have to talk…" Maxine's voice trailed off, hesitant to continue with this conversation. She turned to face her friend, who was still lost in her thoughts, staring out the window. Chloe sighed, knowing that whatever Maxine had to say couldn't be good. She turned to face her, bracing herself for the worst.

"I-I just wanted to apologize for what happened back there. With Warren and all," Maxine stammered, her cheeks flushing red. "I didn't tell you because he's only my science partner...Rachel took things completely out of context…" She paused, searching for the right words.

"Hey, hey, Bat Max it's cool you little weirdo. I don't care about you being friends with Waldo or even as a science partner. It's your life and I can't control it." Chloe smiles slightly, trying to reassure Maxine. She sighs and leans her head back against the seat.

"But I gotta admit, I'm pissed at Rachel. She knew how I felt about you and she still went and said that shit. It hurt, Max. A lot." Chloe's voice cracks slightly as she speaks, her anger and hurt bubbling up to the surface. "And now I don't even know what to think. She's been acting so weird lately and I don't know if I can trust her."

"Wait, you like me…?" Maxine stops mid sentence, her eyes widening in surprise. Chloe nodded, a small smile forming on its own. "I mean, I kinda knew but…" She shrugged, her cheeks flushing slightly.

Caught red handed without realizing the words she released out to the public. Chloe's head hits the steering wheel, embarrassed. "Great, me and my big mouth." She mutters to herself. This only makes her more confused about her feelings and what she wants. Chloe's emotions are a wrecking ball that has been hitting her hard. She doesn't know what to think or feel.

"And that's what I'm scared of," Maxine admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. She turned to face Chloe, her expression serious. "We're going a bit too fast here, our friendship hasn't even reached a year yet and we already moving to stage two. Plus, it seems like me being here has worn out as you can see with Rachel."

Chloe glanced at Maxine, confusion etched on her features. "What do you mean by 'stage two'?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.

"It means being more than friends Chlo. I want whatever we do to be slow, and worth it in the end. Not fast and everything is on fire." Maxine explains to Chloe, her voice had a good mixture of hope and uncertainty.

She looks at Chloe, searching for some sign of understanding or agreement. Unfortunately, Chloe's expression is still remained clouded with confusion.

"I don't get it, Maxine. What are you saying? Are you saying you don't want to be friends anymore?" Chloe's voice cracks slightly, fear creeping into her tone.

Shaking her head Maxine reassures her quickly. "No, no that's not what I'm saying. I just want to take things slow, Chloe. What we personally have, I mean, we've only known each other for a few days. We don't want to rush into something we might regret later, right?"

Chloe, still looking confused, nods slowly. "I guess... so you only want to be friends in the end nothing more? I-Is that what you saying Maxine?" Her voice cracks slightly on the last word, and she swallows hard.

"Yes. That's what I'm saying." Maxine replies with a sigh, understanding Chloe's confusion. She reached out her hand to comfort her friend, but Chloe quickly pulled away, her expression hardening.

"I-I just don't get it, Maxine. You seem to be all over the place. One minute you're acting like you like me, then the next you're telling me we can only be friends. It's like you're playing with my feelings or something. Kinda reminds me of Rachel." Chloe's voice is shaking now, her eyes glistening with water slowly forming in them.

"You don't see it but I can tell you really like Rachel, and its more than friendship. And I don't want me being in your life confusing things for you. I don't want to be the next rebound girl or something you'll regret later on. I don't want to mess up our friendship." Maxine's voice breaks as she tries to explain herself. She looks away, her heart heavy with the thought of losing Chloe.

She stared into Maxine's blue eyes, desperately trying to process her words. The truth cut like a double-edged sword, for deep down, Chloe knew that Maxine was right not a single lie was told. Her words carried the weight of undeniable reality, yet they somehow struck an emotional chord within Chloe's fragile soul.

Each syllable uttered by Maxine caused a flurry of conflicting emotions to course through Chloe's veins. As if a whirlwind of chaos had been unleashed within her, she felt her emotions spiraling out of control, cascading down an unfamiliar path. It was as if her very essence was morphing into a runaway train, hurtling towards an imminent and devastating collision.

"No I don't!" Chloe protested, her voice cracking up. A never ending stream of tears rain heavily down her face as she fought hard to compose herself. She wiped away the tears with the back of her hand, her breath coming out in ragged gasps. "I-I like you, Maxine. A lot. I don't want to just be friends. I want more. But I-I don't want to lose Rachel, either. It's... it's complicated.

"And you don't realize that it's complicated because of me. That's why I think we should spend some time apart, temporarily. At least, until this gets sort out." Maxine explains to Chloe, her voice breaking once again. She knew she was pushing Chloe away, but she couldn't bear the thought of hurting her friend anymore.

"B-but why? Why now?" Chloe choked out, her heart feeling as if it had been torn in two. She reached for Maxine's hand, but the other girl pulled away, her expression pained. "We could figure it out together, Maxine. We could make it work. We're friends, right?"

"We are Chlo, trust me. But the more we spend time together the more I feel like it's only going to get worst because of Rachel." Maxine sighs, running her fingers through her hair. "It's not that I don't trust you, Chloe. It's just that our feelings for each other are so intense, and we need some space to sort it out before we can figure out what we want from each other. I don't want to lose you as a friend, Chloe. You're important to me."

"Yeah. I get it. Would you mind getting out? I need to park somewhere before we be late for class." Chloe finally manages to reply. She sniffles, trying to compose herself as she pulls the truck near the sidewalk. The silence that fills the cab is deafening, each heartbeat seeming to echo through the confined space.

Maxine watches Chloe carefully, her heart aching for her friend. She knows this isn't easy for either of them, but she also knows it's necessary. She unbuckles her seatbelt and climbs out of the truck. She then turns back to Chloe, offering her a small smile. "Look, I know this is hard, but we'll figure it out, okay? We always do."

"Of course. I'll give you all the time you need Caulfield." Chloe nods coldly, trying to maintain a brave face despite the tears still pouring down her cheeks. She turns the key in the ignition, the engine groaning to life once more. As she pulls out of the parking spot, she glances over at Maxine out of the corner of her eye.

Not long enough Chloe backs her vehicle out the cramped sidewalk, hitting the car that was behind her accidentally. The impact was unexpected and she panicked for a moment, but her instinct told her to avoid any confrontation. She quickly glanced around, saw that no one was nearby, and made the decision to jet away from the scene before any authorities showed up.

Breathing heavily, Chloe drove her truck to a nearby parking lot where she knew she could blend in with other vehicles. Meanwhile, Maxine, who had witnessed the entire incident from a distance, let out her very own sigh. She had been observing Chloe closely lately, not because of her own personal issues with Rachel, but due to her suspecting something deeper.

Regardless of the situation, She shifted her head down and looked at the time on her phone. She knew she had to put her own emotions aside for now and focus on other matters. After all, she had promised Victoria and the others that she would meet them. Seeing as though she is now on a time limit, Maxine typed away on her phone with lightning speed. Her thumbs moved effortlessly across the screen as she composed a message to let Victoria know that she was on her way.

Once the entire message was completed, Maxine hit send and hoped for a quick response.

From: ME

10/30 8:15 AM

Where are you? Sorry if I'm late, lost track Vee.

And her luck came right on time. It had only been five seconds since Maxine had hit send when she received a notification. Victoria's response appeared right away on the screen, a long paragraph brimming with support and uplifting words. Maxine marveled at her best friend's typing skills once again, as if witnessing a modern-day miracle unfold before her eyes.

From: VICTORIA

10/30 8:15 AM

It's fine hope you're doing okay or whatever. Me and Taylor waiting for you by your locker. Hurry up before we miss Mr. Jefferson's class, AGAIN!

#NotInTheMood #HurryUpBitch #Imalsohungry

Smiling contentedly, Maxine gracefully slid her cell phone into her fashionable messenger bag, her prized possession that held not just her personal belongings but also her dreams and aspirations. It had only been a couple of days since she transferred to Blackwell Academy, and already she couldn't wait for the year to be over. Everyone around her, even her newest friend Chloe, seemed to be building up her stress levels. It was a good thing she had Victoria around, or else she would never see the end of it.

–––

In the crowded corridors of Blackwell, the prestigious boarding school known for its elite student body and exclusive social circles, a certain aura emanated from the building further down the hall. It was here that the queen bee of Blackwell, Victoria, held court with her entourage. Leaning coolly against the lockers, Victoria's piercing gaze swept the hallway as she awaited the late arrival of Maxine accompanied by Nathan and Taylor.

With an air of impatience, she indulged in the crisp bite of an apple, her silence masking her keen interest in the conversation that unfolded before her. Nathan, a fellow student, and loyal confidant, ranted endlessly about his father's upcoming important meeting with Principal Wells to discuss reopening the Let's All Smile Contest after the tragic events that took place with Zachary Riggins and the graffiti scandal. His words poured forth like an overflowing river, Victoria could feel a certain admiration for his daring nature.

Unlike her relationship with Maxine, which held its own allure, Victoria found herself drawn to Nathan for his unabashed willingness to do whatever it took to bring his enemies to their knees and elevate his popularity and status. In contrast to Victoria's expectations, Nathan eventually developed a sense of stability since he began dating Samantha Myers.

Samantha's unwavering support and understanding were like a safe harbor in the stormy sea of Nathan's mind. Whenever he felt himself slipping into madness or becoming possessive, Samantha stood steadfastly by his side, providing a much-needed anchor.

Victoria observed with a mix of curiosity and approval as Samantha's calming presence brought about a transformation in Nathan. The tantrums that once plagued him had given way to a newfound composure, and he now sought solace by Victoria's side. It seemed that when Samantha was not around, Nathan found solace in the company of the Vortex Club members, who shared his aspirations for power and influence.

"Mark my words I'll sue his ass if he doesn't comply with my father's demand." Nathan slammed his fist into a random locker, making several students jump and scurry away. "We need the Twelfth Night play and Let's All Smile Contest. To hell with the other events."

Taylor, the ever-present sidekick, rolled her eyes at Nathan's outburst. "Calm down, Nate. You're going to give yourself a heart attack." She tugged at her ponytail nervously, her eyes darting around the hallway to see if anyone had noticed their little scene.

"T is actually right for once in her life. We don't want to attract any more unwanted attention than we already have," Victoria said, her tone cool and collected despite the chaos unfolding around them. She glanced at her luxury watch, a gift from her wealthy parents, and frowned slightly. "We're already running late for our next class. What's taking Maxine so long?"

"Who the fuck is Maxine? Another house pet for Victoria?" Nathan muttered, shoving his hands into his pockets. He shot Taylor a sideways glance before turning back to Victoria, his expression confused.

"You know, I remember when Maxine first transferred here," Taylor said, her voice low and reflective. "She was so different from everyone else. Quiet, kept to herself. I never thought she'd end up in our circle."

"Well, she has changed," Victoria agreed, her eyes narrowing slightly as she recalled the incidents that led to Maxine's current situation. "But I suppose that's what happens when you play with fire. Anyways, she's my childhood best friend and I would highly suggest you show her respect Nathan." She glanced at Nathan, daring him to challenge her authority.

Just then, the sound of approaching footsteps caught their attention. The air was filled with a sense of anticipation as the group turned to see Maxine, accompanied by Nathan and Taylor, appearing around the corner. Maxine's flushed face and disheveled appearance instantly raised eyebrows, causing whispers to ripple through the crowd.

Maxine's normally composed demeanor seemed shaken as she nervously glanced at the group before quickly averting her gaze. It was evident that the attention she was receiving made her uncomfortable, her unease palpable in the air. Curiosity gripped the onlookers, their eyes steadfastly fixed on Maxine's every move.

What had happened to her? What could have brought her to such a state? The whispers grew louder, a hushed silence fell over the surroundings, indicating their eagerness to hear the tale from Maxine's own lips. Like a protagonist at the center of attention, Maxine became the focal point of this unfolding story.

"Well, well, well, look who finally decided to grace us with their presence," Victoria drawled, affecting a bored expression. "We were starting to wonder if you'd gotten lost on your way to class or us, let's go already." She then tries to throws her stale apple to a nearby trashcan only for it to hit Alyssa Anderson in the head.

"Ow."

"Hey guys," Maxine said hesitantly, approaching the group. She shot a look of apology to Alyssa, who was still rubbing her head where the apple had hit. "Victoria is really sorry about that," she shouted over to Alyssa in a slight panic before turning back to her friends.

"Don't lie to that poor girl Maxine," Victoria scoffed, her piercing gaze fixed on Alyssa. The girl flinched under the scrutiny, her cheeks burning red. Nathan chuckled, unconvinced. "Are you ready to go or what?"

"Yeah, I'm ready. But first, who is he?" Maxine points over at Nathan, clearly confused by his presence.

"Oh, this is Nathan Presscot, he's a close friend of mine and is part Vortex Club aswell." Victoria smirks, her eyes flickering between Nathan and Maxine.

Nathan relaxes a little and stares over at Maxine, his expression softening. "Hey, It's nice to meet you." He extends a hand in greeting, a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "You're Victoria's childhood best friend, right? That's pretty cool."

"It is nice to meet you too, Nathan. I'm Maxine Caulfield, and yes, you're right. Victoria and I have known each other for a really long time. She's been there for me through thick and thin, you know?" Maxine smiled warmly at Victoria, who returned the sentiment with a slight nod. "She's been a great friend."

Glancing at Victoria, noticing the unspoken bond between them. Nathan felt a pang of envy, wishing he had someone like her earlier on in his life. "Good to know that," he replied, trying to sound nonchalant. "Where you three heading to now Victoria?"

"Mr. Jefferson class, the best one in this school. And I do not want to be late, again. Let's go Maxine and Taylor." Victoria responded, turning away from Nathan.

The group made their way to their next class, with Nathan falling into step beside Maxine.

"So, what do you think of Vortex Club, Maxine? It's not everyone's cup of tea or for any losers to join, but we certainly know how to have a good time." Nathan asked, trying to make conversation as they walked. Maxine looked at him carefully before answering.

"I've only heard about it from Victoria, but it seems like you all have a close bond. That's important, I guess." She paused, considering her words. "But I prefer to keep my circle small and trustworthy. It's easier that way." Nathan nodded in understanding, though he couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy at her ability to choose her friends so carefully.

When they reached the classroom, Mr. Jefferson greeted them at the door. "Ah, if it isn't my favorite three latecomers. Please, take your seats quickly, we're already deep into our discussion." Maxine and Taylor took their seats in the back along with Victoria.

Resuming his lesson, the class continued, and Mr. Jefferson's voice filled the room, painting vivid pictures of breathtaking landscapes and captivating moments frozen in time. Nathan, being the last person to leave the hallways, had bid farewell to the three girls with a final wave before making his way towards his own class.

Back inside Mr. Jefferson's class, the atmosphere brimmed with anticipation and enthusiasm. Maxine, a passionate lover of photography, was entranced by every word spoken by her teacher. She listened carefully, hanging onto his every sentence, as he delved into the beautiful art form that is photography.

Each passing moment, Maxine found herself more engrossed in the world of capturing fleeting moments and preserving memories. She feverishly scribbled down notes, eager to absorb every morsel of knowledge being imparted. Maxine was excited at the thought of creating her own masterpieces knowing this class was her favorite. Victoria, always a mischievous soul, noticed Maxine's intense focus and couldn't resist the thrill of joining her friend in this shared interest.

Making sure no one else could overhear them, Victoria stealthily moved her chair closer to Maxine's. She wore a sly suspicious smile, hinting at an exciting secret waiting to be revealed which means it can't be good.

"Hey hippie, me and Taylor thinking about having a smoke after this class is over, you in?" Victoria whispered, her breath hot against Maxine's ear. Maxine looked up from her notes, surprised by the sudden invitation. She hesitated for a moment before replying.

"Oh, um... I don't know, Victoria. I'm not really into that sort of thing. But thanks for asking, I appreciate it." Maxine replied, her expression a mix of surprise and hesitation. She quickly returned her focus to the lesson, not wanting to draw any more attention to herself.

Victoria, however, was not easily deterred. She leaned in closer, her voice lowered even further. "You know, Maxine, I've noticed how you've been acting different lately. Like you're not really one of us anymore. And I just want to make sure you're emotionally okay." Her tone was soft, almost apologetic. "You're my best friend and I care about you alot. You can tell me anything, you know that, right?" She paused, her green eyes boring into Maxine's, searching for some sort of reaction.

Maxine glanced around the classroom, making sure no one was watching them. "I'm fine, Vee. Really," she whispered back. "But thank you for asking."

"Hey, you know I've always got your back, no matter what. But if you ever need to talk... or you're just bored... or if you want to get into some trouble... just give me a holler, okay? We're always here for you. You're not alone in this. And remember, if you ever want to join us for a smoke... or anything else... I mean, you know..." Victoria trailed off with a wink, her voice lowering to a conspiratorial whisper.

"Thanks, Vee. I really do appreciate it." Maxine replied, genuinely touched by her friend's offer. She leaned closer, lowering her voice even further. "But you know, I'm not really interested in smoking. And I'd rather not get into any more trouble. I just want to focus on my studies and get through this year without any more drama or unnecessary bullshit." She paused, studying Victoria's expression. "I'm sorry if I've been distant. I'm just trying to do what's best for me right now."

Victoria nodded, understanding dawning on her face. "Hey, I get it Maxine. You know I've always got your back, no matter what. And if you ever change your mind... or if there's anything else I can do to help... just let me know, okay?" She flashed a reassuring smile before returning her attention to the lesson.

Closing their conversation The rest of the class passed by in a blur, and before they knew it, the bell rang, signaling the end of the period. As the students filed out of the room. While gathering her things and saying goodbye to Kate, Maxine was stopped by Victoria.

Victoria leaned in closer to Maxine, "Remember, you can always come to me if you need anything. I'm here for you, no matter what." She gave Maxine's arm a squeeze before following Taylor out of the room.

And with that, Maxine watched them leave without her. From all that happened so far, the morning Maxine had been intense, filled with heated discussions and unresolved conflicts. And Victoria, true to her nature, had been there for her, providing a comforting presence and wise advice. She felt guilty not telling her everything like she used to do when they were children.

But things are different; sometimes she wanted to face her own battles and not let Victoria beat the living shit out of anyone who brings her trouble. Now walking to her next class period, Maxine had made an important decision – to tell Victoria everything if this situation she's currently in gets worse by the end of the week.

–––

A simple smoke break was much needed for Victoria. This entire week so far had been driving her stress levels beyond reach. The cancellation of one of the best plays Blackwell had to offer, along with the Lets All Smile contest, had driven her insane. She couldn't get past the fact that one person had ruined it for everyone.

Apart from that issue, Victoria had been thinking about Maxine. They had become so distant since her first arrival. Victoria always thought of her best friend as strong, brave, charismatic, and fun to be around.

All those traits now seemed to be thrown in the trash, and she couldn't even recognize her own friend anymore. It deeply bothered Victoria to the very core that Maxine had become so secretive and mysterious, when in reality she had never been like this before.

Something was going on, and Victoria couldn't simply brush off her suspicions, especially when it involved her dear friend. Determined to get to the bottom of things, she decided to set up a plan. But for now, Victoria set aside those thoughts and continued smoking with Taylor behind the building of Blackwell.

A rather pleasing cool breeze whisked past her, Victoria took a long drag from her cigarette. The smoke curled around her, momentarily enveloping her worries, just as the darkness clouded Maxine's true self. Taylor, always a source of support during tough times, stood beside Victoria, sharing in her silent contemplation.

"Something's not right, Taylor," Victoria finally said, breaking the silence as she exhaled a plume of smoke. "Maxine's has been acting strange ever since she arrived, she's completely a different person now."

"I know what you mean, Victoria. It's like she's hiding something." Taylor lifted her arm up and took a drag from her cigarette as well, her eyes darting around the campus before settling back on Victoria.

Turning to face Taylor, Victoria's eyes reflecting nothing but frustration at her friend's obvious complaint. "No shit," she admitted reluctantly. "But we need to find out what's going on with her. She's my best friend and I can't just let her go down this path alone."

Pausing for a brief moment, Victoria took another long drag from her cigarette before continuing. "I think we should try to talk to her again. Maybe if we're more direct this time, we can get her to open up." Taylor looked at her friend a brow furrowed with concern.

"I don't think that's a good idea Vee," Taylor said hesitantly, her expression concerned. She knew how protective Victoria could be when it came to her friends. "If we force her to talk about whatever's bothering her, it might just push her away further. We should give her some space, let her come to us when she's ready."

"Wow you really using your brain today T," Victoria joked, smiling at her friend despite her worries about Maxine. She was truly impressed with Taylor's logical approach to the situation they were facing. It was something she herself didn't often consider.

"What can I say? Not all blondes are idiots." Taylor smirked, shaking her head as she took another drag from her cigarette. She glanced at Victoria, who was deep in thought, her expression serious.

"Right about that. Anyways, where the hell is Courtney? I texted her a long time ago and she's still not here. Did she forget to meet us here or right?" Victoria glanced around, checking her watch impatiently. It was starting to get late and she had to get back to class soon.

"Speaking of Courtney here she comes right now." Taylor pointed in the direction of the main entrance, where Courtney was now strolling casually towards them. Her short, dyed hair bounced with each step, and she flashed them a smile as she approached.

"Hey guys, sorry I'm late. I had a bit of a run-in with Principal Wells in the hallway and he just wouldn't stop talking my ear off." Courtney sighs dramatically as she reaches the group, exaggerating her exhaustion. "But I'm here now, what's the latest gossip?" She glances between Victoria and Taylor, clearly curious about whatever they've been discussing.

"Nothing much really, just the usual." Taylor answered, trying not to reveal anything about their earlier conversation. Courtney raised an eyebrow, not quite buying her friend's dismissal. She then passed a unused cigarette and lighter over fo Courtney.

"Thanks, but I'm good for now." Courtney smiled, returning the favor with a pack of her own. "Any plans for the weekend? I was thinking we could all go to the movies?" she asked, changing the subject.

Victoria glanced at her watch again, reluctantly agreeing to go with the group. There was nothing else she could do about Maxine right now. "Sure, why not? We could always use a break from all this drama." She took one last drag from her cigarette before flicking it onto the ground and grinding it beneath her heel.

Taylor smiled, glad that everyone could find some common ground. "Great! I know this new horror film just came out that's supposed to be really good. We could all go and have a girls' night out, it'll be so fun." She turned to Courtney, who nodded in agreement.

"Sounds interesting, I'm in." Victoria replied, her mind already planning her outfit for the night out.

Not getting a chance to continue on with the conversation, Taylor's new focus drifted over to three other girls who sat comfortably at a table, engrossed in their lively conversation on the other side of Blackwell.

Their animated gestures and laughter were enough to capture Taylor's attention instantly without any effort. So captivated was she by their camaraderie that she failed to notice her almost cigarette slipping out of her grasp, falling unceremoniously onto the ground, leaving behind a trail of ash and tiny, glowing embers.

"Are you guys seeing what I'm seeing?" Taylor asked, her index finger led them to the source of her intrest.

The two followed closely to Taylor's finger and were hit with shock and disbelief as well. Sitting at the table was Rachel, Dana, and Juliet talking animatedly. Everything right now seemed heavy with unsaid tension, and Victoria could feel her anger naturally starting to build.

Staring off into the distance, Victoria's attention focused solely on her number one rival, Rachel Amber. She had always felt a burning jealousy towards Rachel, who seemed to effortlessly outshine her in every aspect of their lives. From academics to extracurricular activities, Rachel was always one step ahead.

Ignoring the presence of the other two girls, Victoria's mind raced with thoughts of revenge. She couldn't allow Rachel to continue stealing the limelight any longer, step by step, with her enchanting charm and undeniable talent. Victoria was set on to reclaim her position as the queen of their social circle.

"Let's go over there," Taylor suggested, her voice was low but can be heard. Her gaze was fixed on the table where Rachel, Dana, and Juliet were sitting, seemingly oblivious to their presence. She didn't miss a beat as she quickly brushed off the ash and dirt from her jeans.

"I rather drink bleach. Wait...look, Rachel is about to leave, hide!" Victoria whispers to Taylor, pointing at Rachel who was about to get up. They duck behind a nearby bush, peering out just in time to see Rachel walk past them without a glance in their direction.

"What was that about?" Courtney asks curiously, glancing between the two friends.

"Nothing Courtney, get with the program for once jeez," Victoria quickly answers, annoyed by her friend lack of awareness. "Let's follow that slut at a distance and see where she's going. I know Rachel is up to something. She glances over at Taylor, who nods in agreement.

They all sneak away from their hiding spot, keeping a safe distance from the trio. The three of them silently trail Rachel, who seems to be headed towards the music room. Victoria's heart pounds with anticipation. Could it be that Rachel is planning something big? Something to take Blackwell by storm and further cement her position as the school's reigning queen?

Approaching the empty music room that was closed for now, the air was fraught with anticipation. The sound of hushed voices reached their ears, drawing them closer to the source of this intriguing conversation.

It was a male voice, unmistakably Mark Jefferson, the renowned photography teacher, accompanied by what sounded like Rachel, a talented yet enigmatic student.

Curiosity piqued, they decided to slip inside unnoticed. As they tiptoed through the door, the sun-kissed rays peered through the room's curtains, casting a beautiful yet ethereal glow upon the scene. With each careful step, their eyes gradually adjusted to the dim lighting, revealing an unexpected tableau in the center of the room. There, standing side by side, were Rachel and Mark Jefferson engaged in an intense exchange.

Every girl felt their jaws drop open in astonishment. The weight of the secret that had been shrouded in darkness now lay exposed before them.

Taylor's impulsive nature urged her to blurt out her thoughts, ready to confront the unfolding situation. However, Victoria, always composed and astute, intuitively placed her hand over Taylor's mouth, quieting her restless words. It was essential not to risk exposing their covert observation and potentially altering the course of this mysterious rendezvous. Rachel appeared unusually vulnerable, her usually self-assured demeanor eroded by a torrent of unspoken emotions.

Beside her stood Mark Jefferson, his piercing brown eyes filled with both concern and yearning. Their whispered conversation floated effortlessly across the room, each word suffused with secrecy and longing.

The significance of this clandestine meeting hung heavily in the air. Intrigue and concern gripped the girls' hearts as they remained hidden behind the curtains. What could possibly link these two enigmatic figures? The puzzle pieces began to click into place, forming a picture none of them had ever fathomed. The boundaries between mentor and student seemed blurred, and an unexpected connection between Rachel and Mark Jefferson began to unravel. Taylor wrestled with the urge to speak, Victoria's quieter nature urged patience. The three girls remained silent observers, trusting that the unfolding story would soon unveil itself.

"Shh! Will you shut up? Let's just listen in on what they're saying." Victoria whispered, her curiosity getting the better of her. She, Taylor, and Courtney quietly moved closer to the pair, trying not to make any noise.

"I don't know if we should keep doing this, Mark…" Rachel hissed, her voice barely audible. "What if someone finds out? What if Chloe…"

"I don't know, Mark... this feels wrong," Rachel hissed, her voice barely audible. "What if someone finds out?"

"Shh, Rachel, don't worry about it," Mr. Jefferson reassures her, his voice low and soothing. "I promise you, no one will find out. You're safe with me."

Victoria glared at the pair, her eyes narrowing in anger but also a newfound curiosity. How could she believe what she was hearing? Rachel and Mark... together? This revelation was too much for Victoria to handle. Rachel, her arch nemesis of all time, having a secret love affair? And worse, it was with none other than their beloved photography class teacher!

At first, Victoria's blood boiled with rage. How could they betray her trust like this? But as the initial shock subsided, her anger transformed into a wicked smirk. A devious plan began to formulate in her mind, fueled by a mix of revenge and an insatiable desire for answers.

Having no time to spare, Victoria swiftly retrieved her phone from her pocket and launched the camera app. Her fingers trembled with anticipation as she positioned herself discreetly, making sure to capture every incriminating interaction between Rachel and Mark.

"Chloe is going to kill me if she finds out about all of this. This was supposed to be for model career purposes and somehow it turned to this," Rachel whispered, looking at Mark. "I don't know what to do."

Mark took her hand in his, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "Rachel, you're not the only one who's been keeping secrets. I understand your situation, and I promise you, I will keep your secret safe."

"You promise?" Rachel asked, genuinely worried about her future if word got out to the public. She leaned in closer to him, her eyes wide with intense fear.

He nodded, his face serious. "Yes, I promise. You have my word." Mark paused for a moment, then reached out to cup her face gently in his hands. "Rachel, I won't let anything happen to you. You can trust me."

Victoria listened to their exchange, her blood boiling with anger and happiness at the same time. This was it; she had all the proof she needed to bring Rachel Amber down. A smile crept onto her face as she snapped a photo and stopped recording the intimate moment, capturing the look of pure affection in their eyes.

Backing away, Victoria joined her gang as they left the music room, their hearts pounding with excitement from what just happened. Their footsteps echoed throughout the empty hallway as they made their way towards the exit, their minds consumed with thoughts of the great scheme they were about to execute.

They reached the double doors leading out of the building, adrenaline coursing through their veins, their tired bodies gave out the second they started running. Their legs felt heavy and their lungs burned with every breath, but they pressed on, fueled by their determination and the secrets they now held.

Finding refuge in a nearby alleyway, Victoria and her friends caught their breath, leaning against the cold brick wall. They knew that time was of the essence, so without wasting a moment, Victoria retrieved her phone from her pocket and eagerly pulled up the incriminating evidence she had just collected. With a triumphant smile, Victoria showed her two friends the photos and the video. Their eyes widened as they took in the undeniable proof of Rachel and Mark's love affair.

Emotions raced through Victoria's mind as she realized the power these images held. She knew that by exposing Rachel and Mark's forbidden love affair, she could exact revenge, not only for herself but for all the others who had been hurt by their deceit.

"I can't believe what I just saw, Rachel Amber messing with Mr. Jefferson?" Courtney gasped, her eyes wide with shock. She had always looked up to Mark as a mentor and friend, and the thought of him being involved with Rachel was more than she could handle.

"Poor Chloe…wait, isn't she like in love with Rachel?" Taylor asked, her brow furrowed with confusion. She had heard rumors about their relationship before, but she wasn't quite sure what was going on. "What if she finds out? You know how she gets Victoria..."

Victoria shrugged her shoulders, a wicked smile playing at the corners of her lips. "Most likely but who actually cares?" She paused for a moment, her gaze flickering to the incriminating evidence on her phone. "Trust me, we will make sure she does find out. One way, or another."

There was a moment of silence before Taylor spoke up unsure if she wanted to be in this type situation. "You know...I don't think we should do this. This is too big, too messy. What if someone finds out we're the ones who did it? We could get in so much trouble."

"We won't expose her, yet. Victoria smiled, her voice cold and calculating which made both Taylor and Courtney uncomfortable. "We just need to make sure she knows we have the upper hand. We can use this to our advantage, to make her do what we want. We can use this to control her. And once we have her right where we want her, we can finally bring her down for good. Think of it as a game, a chess match between the two of us. We can play with her emotions, make her dance to our tune. And when the time is right, we'll strike and watch her crumble before our eyes. It's going to be glorious." She explains with a now maniacal grin.

"Jeez Vee, remind me not to get on your bad side…" Courtney muttered under her breath, shaking her head slightly. She knew her friend could be ruthless when she wanted to be, but this was taking it to a whole new level. Still, she couldn't deny the thrill that coursed through her veins at the thought of having the upper hand over someone like Rachel Amber.

"Rachel is playing with fire here. If word gets out that she's with Mr Jefferson she can kiss her whole scholarship goodbye." Taylor said, shaking her head in disbelief. "Who knows what could happen? Her parents might find out, or worse, Chloe could end up hurting herself. This is way too much for us to handle alone."

Victoria looked at her friend, her expression hardening. She knew that Taylor had a point, but she couldn't bring herself to back down now. "We can handle this, T. We've got this under control. Besides, we're not doing anything illegal here. We're just exposing the truth and that is the a crime. And once we do that, we'll be in the driver's seat. We'll be able to control everything."

"But what about Chloe…?" Taylor's voice trailed off as she looked at her friend, her expression conflicted. Victoria knew that her friend was right; they didn't want to hurt Chloe any more than they had to. But they couldn't let Rachel get away with this either.

"And what about her Taylor? You don't even know Price only the rumors about her. She'll survive." Victoria shrugged, her tone uncharacteristically cold.

Courtney looked over at Taylor with a wide smirk. "Yeah...you must like her or something. It's not like you to ask questions about somebody over and over."

Taylor frowned, looking back at Courtney. "Well apart from her bad girl image Chloe is pretty cool. Plus, in my opinion pretty cute–" She paused for a second and quickly resumes back to the main topic due to her entire face starting to heat up. "–What I mean is we shouldn't be so quick to jump on the revenge train here. We could get in real trouble if we're not careful. I mean, Victoria has a point about Rachel getting what's coming to her, but we should still think about the consequences."

"Listen, we both know that Rachel Amber is not someone who should be trusted. That slut thinks she can get the upper hand but now we are in the lead and we're in control!" Victoria exclaimed, her anger starting to boil over. She hated how everyone seemed to just accept Rachel's bullshit, like she was some kind of saint. She wasn't, and they were going to prove it.

Taylor looked at her friend, her expression softening slightly. She could tell that Victoria was really worked up about this whole thing and she didn't want to push her too far. "I understand where you're coming from, Vee. But we still need to be careful with this one. We don't want to get in over our heads here and be in trouble."

Courtney agrees with Taylor. "Yeah, you're right. Let's just think about this for a sec and come up with a plan before we do anything rash." She glanced over at Victoria, noticing the fire still burning in her eyes. "I mean, we can't just let Rachel walk all over us anymore, but we also don't want to end up like her, you know?"

"Fine, we'll figure something out. Like I said before, we've got this under control. We just need to be smart about it." Victoria took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. She was well aware her friends were right; they couldn't afford to make any mistakes here.

They stood there in the alleyway, debating their next move, hoping neither of them get caught. Each of them knew that whatever decision they made would have far-reaching consequences, not just for them but for everyone involved. It was a sobering thought, and it forced them to consider their actions carefully.

Finally, Taylor broke the silence. "There's no debating that we all know that Rachel can be a real piece of work, but let's not forget that she's also a person, a human. She's just as vulnerable as the rest of us, and she's probably going through a lot of the same things we are. We don't have to be cruel to get back at her."

"Let's discuss this later. We can talk about the plan at Two Whales. I can't afford to waste time debating while school is still active. My attendance records won't be ruined because of this." Victoria stated, walking off briskly. She had a feeling that whatever they decided, it wouldn't be easy. But she knew one thing for sure: she couldn't let Rachel win again. Not this time.

"That sounds great, you owe me a burger anyways Chase!" Taylor yelled back, her eyes paying close attention to Victoria as she walked away. She turned to Courtney, a worried look crossing her face. "I hope she's okay, she seems really stressed out."

"Yeah, she's so obsessed with Rachel that it's starting to get a little creepy. I hope she doesn't do anything stupid. You know how she can be when she gets like this." Courtney shrugged, trying to sound nonchalant but she was worried too. She followed Victoria with her eyes, wondering what her friend could possibly have planned. "I guess we'll find out at Two Whales this afternoon. Let's just hope it's not too risky."

Exchanging solemn glances, Taylor and Courtney wordlessly decided to retreat from the conversation, knowing that revisiting the issue would only lead to more stress on them. They swiftly turned their backs on the lingering topic, their footsteps echoing down the empty corridors of the school building. The duo hurriedly made their way back inside, their minds racing with the impending need to reach their respective classrooms before the chimes of the bell would sound.

Time seemed to slip through their fingers like grains of sand, reminding them of the importance of punctuality. They quickened their pace, weaving through throngs of students who were blissfully oblivious to the unresolved problems that was about to come in the next few days.
