Percy didn't know if he heard her right "what?" , he asked laughing a bit , genuinely thinking she was making some twisted joke

"Marry me...?" She asked again, shrugging her shoulders and smiling, seeming so laid-back as if she were asking about sharing her chocolate.

"That's very generous of you," Percy started to say, looking at her without breaking eye contact. "But I can't ask you to do that." He said truthfully, still expecting her to just burst out laughing.

"I'm a doctor, I took an oath and I can't leave you now more than I could leave you bleeding out on the street," she said, leaning towards him, looking dead serious.

"This is absurd," Percy said, swallowing hard. "And you're going to regret it deeply later on " He added, his eyes getting wet slightly.

"Your dying , Percy ... your dying and you don't have to cause I can help you " she said , looking at him expecting him to say something, when he didn't she said " I mean it ... I'll marry you " her eyebrows raised as she expected him to answer , but he was struggling, could he just marry some kind and beautiful doctor just for insurance, sucking off on her money as a leach ? his head was saying a thousand things at once but he just starred at her , her gorgeous grey eyes that were piercing his .

Percy unlocked his door to his apartment, which he shared with his best friend Grover. Percy used to live alone, or at least afford to live alone. He had a pretty good job as a marine biologist, and life was good until he was diagnosed with this disease; it all happened gradually, first his job got less exciting as he was refused to go diving for research purposes and was stuck with the desk job, then came the surgeries, which made him take too many holidays, so he was eventually let go. Then he could barely afford rent, until Grover offered to stay with him, splitting the rent, which was still a bit too much on his salary as a photographer.

Percy entered the apartment and found Grover playing an intense video game, which was NBA, yah Grover didn't like to play any violent games; he was an environmentalist with a heart as big as passion for the environment. Percy had always liked that about him.

"Hey, G-Man," Percy said as he slumped next to Grover on the sofa, grabbing a waffle off the coffee table and munching on it.

"Hey Perce, how did the meeting go? Any good news? " He asked, still keeping his eyes fixed on the screen.

"Ah, nope," Percy said, waving his hand dismissively. "The hospital couldn't afford it."

"What? Oh, man! I'm sorry," Grover said as he paused the game and turned toward him, patting him on the leg.

"Actually, something good did happen today...kinda". Percy said finishing his waffle and folding his hands, not sure how to put into words what had happened earlier.

"What?" Grover asked as his curiosity peaked.

"I'm getting married tomorrow," Percy said grimacing slightly, preparing himself for the hell that was about to break loose.

"WHAT? Wait…WHAT…like to Rachel?" He asked as he got up and looked at him like he was crazy.

"She dumped you yesterday, how could you man? You don't deserve her, what is wrong with you?"

"It's not Rachel," Percy interjected, raising his hand up to defend himself.

"What!?" he looked even more flabbergasted. "Then who?" he asked.

"Dr. Annabeth Chase " Percy simply stated, smiling uneasily. Oh boy, was he in trouble.

"Are you crazy? Have you lost your mind? What are you, some mindless chicken? You want to marry a doctor, do you even know if she wants to marry you? " He exclaimed as he started pacing across the couch, shaking his head. Percy just sat there, enjoying the outburst, waiting until Grover calmed down a bit before telling the long story—from meeting Annabeth, to her finding out , the meeting, and then the proposal ? It wasn't that long, but it was a bit confusing for him too.

"So this doctor just offered to marry you? You?" Grover asked, pointing at him like he was some alien. "Are you sure? I mean, who in their right mind would do something like that?" Grover said, scratching his head and looking confused.

"Dude," Percy replied, placing his hands over his heart and giving Grover a wounded look.

Ohh come on, you know I'm right; there's probably an ulterior motive behind it," he said as he rolled his eyes. "But what could a doctor possibly get out of a marriage?" Grover wondered as he raised his eyebrows and looked at Percy.

"she's just a good person and an even better doctor " Percy said , but it was more like convincing himself of it .

He would be lying if he thought that all of this was okay, but again it was pretty normal in the States for people to get married for all kinds of reasons, like green cards and uhh ...insurance; so, yeah, it was fine. He'd be married by tomorrow, no pressure.
