Chapter 3:

Rachel grabbed a sandwich and Kurt handed her a cup of coffee. She gave him a small smile and took a seat in the small waiting room outside Finn's room. She knows that he only kissed her to stop her rambling so why did she decide to kiss him before they took him for testing? She wasn't seeing anyone, hadn't been since things ended with Brody but she still wasn't sure about what he wanted.

Kurt came and sat next to her as she sat lost in her thoughts. "What's on your mind, diva?"

Rachel looked up at him and bit her lip. "I'm not sure if he really wants me to stay. He said he wanted me to fulfil my dreams but I don't want to leave him."

Kurt thought for a moment and looked into her eyes. "What do you want to do, Rach?"

"I want to stay here with him, even if that means giving up Broadway. He means everything to me even more than Broadway and I want to spend the rest of my life proving that to him. He is so much more than he thinks he is." Rachel explained taking a sip of her coffee.

Kurt nodded slowly and reached to take her hand. "I'll miss you in New York but I respect whatever decision you make."

Rachel smiled at him softly and squeezed his hand, lightly. "Thank you but I'm not even sure he'll want me to stay. He seemed shocked that I said I would give up New York for him."

"Of course he was shocked, all you've talked about since you two met is how much you wanted to be on Broadway. He's only doing what he thinks you want." Kurt explained.

"I don't want that anymore. I haven't in a long time. I just want him. I want him to be better. This shouldn't have happened." Rachel said the tears pooling up.

"No, it shouldn't have." Kurt started and waited until Rachel's eyes met his again. "But it did and you're going to have to prove to him that this is where you want to be."

Rachel nodded as she saw an orderly moving Finn back into his room. She slowly stood up and Finn locked eyes with her, giving her a small smile. She gave a smile back and moved towards his room. Kurt let her go and took a bite of his own sandwich. They would figure it out he was sure of it.

Rachel timidly moved back into the room as the orderly finished getting Finn settled. She gave the orderly a gentle smile as they left and moved back to Finn's side. She carefully took a seat in her chair from earlier while still holding her sandwich and her coffee.

"You've haven't eaten much." Finn commented adjusting himself in the bed.

Rachel shook her head looking down at her lap. Finn could tell something was bothering her but he didn't want to push her. "How did your x-rays go?"

"We won't know the results for a few hours." Finn said gazing at her intently. "What's wrong?"

"It doesn't matter right now." Rachel replied taking a nibble of her sandwich.

"Rach..."

"Just leave it for now, Finn. I'll tell you just not now." Rachel said putting the rest of her sandwich on the small table beside his bed.

"You really need to eat, Rach." Finn said gently.

"I'm not hungry." Rachel replied sipping more of her coffee.

"Rachel, please tell me what's wrong? You're not looking at me and you won't eat. You can't survive off coffee." Finn begged.

"I just...I want to apologize." Rachel started.

"Apologize? For what?" Finn asked confused.

"For kissing you earlier. I know you only kissed me out of habit...to shut me up and I wanted to say I'm sorry." Rachel explained.

"You don't have anything to be sorry for. Yeah I kissed you out of habit to stop your rambling but I also kissed you because I wanted to. I missed you, Rach." Finn responded. He gently took the coffee out of her hands and placed it on the table next to the sandwich before taking her hand in his. "Don't be embarrassed. I didn't stop you, did I?"

Rachel shook her head and slowly lifted her head to look at him. She was met with his deep cinnamon eyes that held nothing but love and compassion. "You're sure your not mad?"

"Do I look mad, Rach? I have never been mad at you for kissing me. I love you." Finn said gently, squeezing her hand.

"I love you too. I never stopped." Rachel replied squeezing his hand back.

There was a soft knock on the door then and Carole poked her head through. "Sorry to interrupt but I wanted to see if you were back from testing..."

"Mom, come here. I know you've been here since they brought me in and Rach here has been kind of hogging me since I woke up." Finn said as Carole moved into the room followed by Burt and Kurt.

Rachel blushed a deep crimson and looked away as Carole moved closer. "Don't be ashamed, sweetheart." Carole said. "I'm glad someone loves my son as much as you."

That brought Rachel's smile back as she watched Carole hug her only son. Finn gave her a smile over Carole's shoulder and she instantly felt a bit better. Burt and Kurt both stepped forward after Carole released him and gave him their own hug.

"Do you need anything, honey? Are you hungry?" Carole asked trying to fluff Finn's pillows.

"No, mom. I'm fine, really. Stop worrying, please." Finn said gently pushing her hands away.

"Rach? We should go and get some rest. I'm sure Finn would like some as well." Kurt spoke up.

Rachel looked at him, flabbergasted. "I don't want to leave. I want to stay here."

"Rachel?" Finn said softly. He waited until her eyes were on him. "Kurt's right. You should get some rest. I'm sure you came straight here and you're exhausted. I can see it in your eyes.I don't want you sleeping on that hard plastic chair. I'll be okay here. I'm sure my mom's not leaving."

"But..." Rachel stammered.

"He's right, honey. I'm not leaving and you need your rest. You can't keep running on coffee. You didn't even touch that sandwich I got you, did you?" Carole asked her, kneeling beside her.

Rachel shook her head. "I wasn't hungry. I just got here and I don't want to leave yet."

"Hey. No one is telling you that you have to go back to New York. Just go get some sleep. I'm not moving." Finn said stroking his thumb over the knuckles of the hand he had managed to snag again. "Mom? Would it be okay if they stayed at the house while their here?"

"Of course, honey. I wouldn't have it any other way." Carole replied placing a hand on Rachel's knee. "Go with Kurt and get some sleep for all of us. You need to be at your best."

Rachel started to stand and Finn tugged on her hand. She knew the look in his eyes well. She leaned down and hugged him tight as he whispered in her ear. "You can sleep in my room. I won't even care if you wear one of my t-shirts."

Rachel let out a small giggle and pulled back to look at him. He knew it was taking everything in her right now to leave and he wanted her to know that he wasn't going anywhere. He leaned up slightly and captured her lips with his own, lingering for a minute longer than what was comfortable for everyone else in the room. "I'll be back first thing in the morning." She said seriously.

"I'll be here waiting to see that beautiful smile. Now go with Kurt and get some sleep, please. For me." Finn said soft enough for only her to hear.

Rachel nodded and gathered her things before leaving with Kurt for the night. Walking away from him after spending all day worried about him was one of the hardest things she's had to do.

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

OMG! I'm not sure if I'm moving things too fast but next chapter things are going to be a bit different. Finn also won't stay in the hospital forever. Next chapter we'll see how he adapts to recovering at home especially with Rachel hovering. Please review, they mean so much to me and keep me working on this story for you all. I'm already so proud of where this story is heading even though I know they never would have wrote it in this way. Cheers until next time!
