Chapter 24
Heaven Is Waiting
January 9th
"Where are those guys, Jacob's house isn't that far away," Emily muttered to herself as she plated up the last of the muffins.
"Who knows with them," Fay said staring at the door. Sam and the others had gone for a quick lap of the reservation before the hunting party went out. Jacob had not turned up this morning, so they were going to stop by the Blacks house to wake him up. Sam was in a better mood then last night. The plan was everyone would come back to Emily's then go to the beach for some cliff diving while they all had the day off. Fay regretted not going with them now worried something had happened.
"Don't you get sick of cooking so much?" Kim asked Emily as she sipped a cup of tea. Jared had dropped her off here before leaving with the other guys. This was the first time Fay had been around Kim without Jared and she was enjoying the other girl's company. It seemed like Kim was also starting to warm up to Fay and Emily as well.
"No, it's kind of like having my own Cafe. Only I'm allowed to scold the customers when they eat like wild animals." The girls all chuckled.
"Yeah, I guess. I need to start cooking again to give you a break. I swear I live here more then-" Fay quit talking mid-sentence. She gasped and her eyes grew wide. All she could see was a pair of snapping jaws sinking into her shoulder, she screamed and next thing she knew she was lying on the floor, Emily and Kim kneeling over her.
"Fay? Fay, can you hear me?" Emily asked concern creasing her face.
"Jacob was fighting with Paul, he got bit," Fay sat up catching her breath. Her head was throbbing as the image flashed in her mind again.
"How do you know that?" Kim asked.
"I saw it, I felt it," Fay says rubbing at her neck. "It was like the wolf mind link only… human."
"Has that happened before?" Emily asked, still clearly worried. Fay shook her head.
"Do you think it's something to do with the imprint." Kim asked offering Fay a hand as she tried to stand up.
"I don't know. Possibly. Who knows how an imprint between two shifters is meant to work." Fay stood up and Kim guided her back to her chair.
"Have you told Sam?" Emily asked.
"No. This is the first time that's happened."
"You have to tell Sam." Emily said.
"What's the point he knows as much about this stuff as any of us. I'm sure you're going to tell him anyways."
"Fay." Emily said in a stern tone, like a mother scolding a child.
"I'm not being rude Emily. I'm just being honest. I know you can't keep anything from one another. You're sure to tell him and I don't mind. I just don't see the point in giving him something else to worry about." Fay rubbed her head, but the throbbing was already gone.
"Nowhere in the history books did it mention wolves being able to mind link while in human form." Kim said staring off into space like she was trying to remember something. Everyone took to the news of shapeshifters differently. When Sam told Emily she was in complete denial and was sure Sam was crazy. When Jared told Kim the only way she could wrap her head around the idea was to study it. She had read and re read every book on La Push history and had now started reading about any book that mentioned werewolves out of interest.
"Nowhere did it mention female shape shifters either. I'm going to go wash my face," Fay said moving for the stairs.
"Okay honey," Emily said watching Fay nervously as she climbed the stairs. Fay was also nervous now. How could she explain this to the others when she couldn't even believe it herself. She locked herself in the bathroom and splashed water on her face. There was still a chance it wasn't real, maybe she had just fallen asleep for a second and it was just another nightmare. That had to be it, it felt real but how could it be.
When she opened the bathroom door Fay's inner wolf growled at the smell that flowed up the stairs. It wasn't vampire, it was worse. Fay slowly walked towards the stairs.
"So, you're the wolf girl?" The sound of Bella's voice made Fay cringe. Why was she here?
"Umm no I'm just engaged to one." Emily said with a chuckle. "Save some for your brothers and lady's first. Muffin?" Fay was glad the guys were finally back. She could smell Jared and Embry but couldn't pick up on anyone else. Fay walked down the stairs.
"Leave it to Jacob to find a way around Sam's gag order," Emily said.
"Umm he didn't say anything." Bella replied.
"It's a wolf thing. Alpha orders get obeyed whether we want them to or not." Embry said before taking a bite of his muffin. Fay stopped at the bottom of the stares. Bella hadn't noticed her even though there was barely a meter between them. "Oh, and check it out we can hear each other's thoughts."
"Would you shut up. These are tribe secrets. Dam it, this chick runs with vampires." Jared scolded and Fay could see Kim roll her eyes at the word chick.
"You can't really run with vampires, because they're fast," Bella said nodding her head.
"We're faster." Bella spun around almost falling over her own feet at the sound of Fay's voice.
"Umm hi, I'm-" Bella tries to introduce herself but Fay cuts her off.
"Bella Swan. I know who you are." Fay strides by Bella with a annoyed look on her face.
"Sorry, but who are you?" Bella asked and Fay just ignored her.
"Where is Jacob?" Fay asked the guys at the table.
"Him and Paul got in a fight, Sam's breaking them up." Embry said. Kim and Emily's eyes both snap to Fay. All realising whatever happened earlier was real. Fay was able to be connected with Jacob while she was in human form. The elders were sure to have a field day with this one.
Paul walked through the front door a second later. Fay didn't pay any attention to anyone else in the room as she marched up to Paul and swung a heated fist into Paul's face. Fay heard Bella gasp and stumble back a few steps. Paul fell flat on his back.
"Fuck, Fay I'm sorry, okay? I didn't mean it, look he's fine." Paul held his jaw where a mark had already started to form. The bruise wouldn't last long but it was still satisfying. Fay's eyes ran over Jake looking for any sign of injuries.
"I'm fine," Jake whispered lowly as Fay ran her fingers over his neck where she had felt the bite. There was nothing there, not even a scratch. Fay looked over her shoulder at Bella.
"She doesn't belong here," Fay said in a low tone. The humans in the room wouldn't be able to pick up on her words. But she was sure Jacob heard her. Fay left the cabin without looking back.
…
Fay sat on a small cliff edge. It wasn't the normal one they jumped off but one lower down. The waves below loudly crashed against rocks. Through a small gap in the trees, you could see most of the beach from this point. Sam, Emily, Jared, and Kim all sat by the ocean. A picnic blanket spread out between the two couples was covered in snacks. Further down the beach Fay could just make out two people walking that she knew would be Jacob and Bella. Anger bubbled up in her at the thought of Jacob spending time with that girl. Leaves crunched behind her, and Fay turned to see Paul standing a few feet back.
"Hey can we talk?" Paul asked.
"What do you want Paul? I'm not going to say sorry for hitting you, it felt too good." Fay said. She was slightly disappointed that the mark was already gone.
"No, I'm the one that needs to say sorry."
"Then please take a seat," Fay said gesturing to the ground next to her. Paul took the offer hanging his legs over the edge of the cliff. He was quite for a second looking out to the ocean before turning back to Fay.
"I was wrong to say that stuff to you the other day. I'm sorry. I know that doesn't make up for it, but I've felt let shit since then." He ran a hand through his hair, eyes cutting back to the water.
"Good," Fay said not looking away from Paul. "The worst part of it was I have never heard you think things like that before. I don't understand where it came from Paul."
"Jacob went and saw Bella last night. Did he tell you that?" It seemed like Paul was changing the subject, but Fay was too shocked to care.
"What? No, we haven't spoken since he dropped me off at Sam's last night." Fay looked back at the beach, but she could no longer see Jacob or Bella. He had said he was going home to Billy why would he lie to her.
"Yeah, he went to see her after that. I don't know what he said to her, but she worked it out."
"I think you phasing in front of her kind of gave it away," Fay said bitterly.
"He's there with her, why isn't he here with you?" Paul asked staring at Fay now.
"Paul," Fay said, not sure what else to say.
"Fay, I know he's your imprint and all, but you can do so much better than him. He's chasing after some vampire fan girl and you're here all alone." Paul pointed out and hated when a flick of sadness tainted Fay's eyes.
"I'm not alone, you're here," Fay pointed out.
"Why do you think that is Fay?" Paul asked.
"You said you wanted to say sorry." He brushed his hand over her cheek and lent inched closer to her. Fay froze at the contact.
"Fay, I care about you. Way too much. I hate that Jacob is your imprint. He doesn't deserve you."
"And what, you do?" Fay asked with a nervous chuckle.
"No but I wish I did," Paul whispered barely being heard over the crashing waves below. He lent in closer. Fay wasn't sure who moved that last millimeter to finally connect their lips. She wanted to say it was Paul, but she felt like she had been the one too covered that last gap.
Burning hot fire. That's what it felt like between their lips. Fay had only ever kissed Jacob before and that was nothing like this. Paul's kiss was demanding but in a good way. A shiver ran down Fay's spine as Paul's tongue entered her mouth and his hands moved over her body. Paul pushed her back onto the grass as he felt Fay slip towards the edge. He didn't break their kiss. His tongue fought with hers for dominance and her whole body rang with excitement.
Fay knew just how many women Paul had been with; she had seen the memories play in his mind multiple times. Even though he tried to keep them out of his thoughts. On those long night patrols every now and then a thought would slip out. She couldn't understand until now just why those girls moaned the way they did, but now she felt moans leaving her lips even though they were still fully clothed. Unlike the girls in Paul's thoughts had been.
Paul was the one to break the kiss as any restraint Fay had now felt long gone. His lips moved down her neck biting at the skin softly then kissing it roughly and sucking on the flesh. One of his hands snaked its way under her shirt. She moaned his name, and he froze his lips only inches from her breast. Cursing he sat back up.
"Fuck Fay I'm sorry. I-" Fay cut him off with another kiss pulling him back into the grass. She knew this was wrong, but god it felt so right.
# Author note
So, was that surprising? I did leave little Easter eggs along the way, or at least I think I did. I tried to make it so Paul seemed jealous when he worked out Fay imprinted with Jacob I hope that came through.
I hope this didn't make anyone think any less of Fay either. She's hurt and angry over Bella and Jacob.
