Chapter 28
Heaven Is Waiting
June 1st
"Wait up!"
Fay froze at the sound of Jacob's voice. She turned around to watch him swerve through the trees to catch up with her.
"I thought I could hang at your house for the day if that's okay with you?" Jacob asked. It was Saturday morning, the sun hadn't risen yet and the pair had just finished night patrol. Sam was putting them together on most patrols now. Their minds had started to block others out at random times so he thought it was safer just to keep them together. They still didn't know why they did it and had no control over when it happened. But most of the pack just assumed it was a side effect of two shifters being imprinted.
"Sure, but I'm not cooking breakfast," Fay said bumping her shoulder against his as they began walking again. It had been a long night with the red head cold one having them chase their tails all night. She had been doing it for weeks now but she seemed to always be just out of reach. Sam had cut them back to four on patrol at a time, in pairs of two. No one was allowed to run patrol alone any more. In the first week of her return it had been the full pack out every day and night trying to get to her but that just resulted in a lot of tired wolves.
"I can cook eggs," Jacob offered grabbing Fay's hand in his.
"Can you do them sunny side up?" She asked raising an eyebrow in challenge.
"I can try. But my specialty is scrambled." Jacob smiled and Fay let out a short chuckle nodding her head.
"As long as I don't have to cook, it sounds great. I swear Quil can't even butter bread. Seth isn't too bad he hasn't set the fire alarm off yet at least." Fay shrugged.
"It would just be nice to be alone with no one trying to burn my kitchen down or leaving it a mess." Fay said.
"Should I go then?" Jacob asked half joking, half worried she would say yes.
"No." Fay rolled her eyes pulling him closer to her side. She savoured his scent, his warmth, him.
…
"They were the best scrambled eggs ever," Fay said putting her empty plate down on the coffee table and sitting back into the couch.
"You're just saying that," Jacob smiled grabbing the empty plates and taking them to the kitchen. Fay knew he wouldn't wash them but she was glad he took them to the sink without being asked.
"Yes, yes I am." Fay called after him. His laughter echoed down the hallway. "The little bits of eggshell added a good crunch," Fay laughed.
"Funny," Jacob smiled, walking back into the lounge room. He dropped back down next to her his smile lighting the room. Fay lent her head against Jacobs shoulder. He tilted his lips down to meet hers and she moved her body closer to his. The kiss was slow, warm, and comforting. Like hot chocolate on a winter day, they both savoured the warmth.
"Off each other," Leah said kicking the couch as she entered the house.
"Leah," Jacob seethed through clenched teeth. Fay slapped his chest. The pair never got much alone time. Even though everyone had moved out of Fay's house and back to their respected homes, excluding Paul who had rented his own small house. The pack still came and went without care. It was hard to keep track of who would be there and when. Which meant privacy wasn't a given.
"Everyone will be here in a few minutes." Leah said picking a chair to sit on. The living room was full with a collection of mix matched sofas and recliners. Everyone in the pack had brought something to the house at one point or another. It felt full now, almost to the point where Fay thought there was to much. But when the hole pack would show up with their other halves in toe their would not be a spare seat to be found.
Fay moved away from Jacob.
"No, you don't," he hooked an arm around her waist pulling her back to his side. She sighed leaning back against him.
"What is this meeting about?" Fay asked.
"Sam will explain," Leah explain flicking her wrist towards the door as the guys begin to walk in. Fay knew both Leah and Sam were uncomfortable being in the pack together but they were being civil about it for the most part. Leah understood the concept of imprinting now and why Sam left her for Emily. She wasn't happy about it. But she understood. Her relationship with Emily was still a mess, but Fay hoped time would heal the cousins as they had once been very close.
The boys wondered into the house from different directions. No urgency about them. Seth and Embry both emerged from the hallway with a muffin each. Having made a kitchen stop before coming into the lounge room. Fay was eased by the calmness that rolled off everyone. Well everyone except Paul. He marched into the room, musical tenses, eyes locked on the ground. He avoided Fay's eyes at all cost but that wasn't new for him. Things had only grown more strained between the two in the last weeks. He through himself into a wooden kitchen chair that had found its way to the living room.
Sam was last to enter the room. He looked tired more then anything. Taking one of the last spare seats in the room he cleared his throat.
"The red head came back through this morning again. The Cullen's were chasing her along the river. She kept jumping from one side of the river to the other. Eventually the big Cullen jumped on the wrong side of the boarder. Almost hit Paul," Sam explained catching up those who weren't just on patrol.
"I should have killed him. At least that would have been one less," Paul seethed through gritted teeth.
"We would be at war right now if you did that. A war we are not ready for yet." Sam sighed. The weight of the pack and the tribe hung on his shoulders and it was clear it was getting to him.
"Why can't we asked the Cullen's to help us catch the red head." Seth asked.
"You're joking right? How can we work with someone we can't trust?" Paul asked sending a sharp glare at the pup.
"Back off Paul," Leah growled. She didn't like the idea of teaming up with cold ones but she wasn't going to let Paul yell at her brother.
"We can't trust them, but we also can't keep chasing our tails around forever. Let's face it she's faster then we are," Fay hated the words coming out of her own mouth.
"We almost had her this morning," Paul growled at no one in particular .
"We've almost had her every time. But we haven't. There has to be something we're missing here, maybe they know someway we can catch her." Embry offered.
"I'm sure they would have already used it if they knew a way," Sam said looking around the room.
Use Bella as bate. That's who she wants.
Jacob jumped to his feet turning on Fay. Everyone in the room flinched at the sudden movement.
"What the hell Fay! How could you say that!" Jacob scolded.
"Jacob I don't know what you're talking about I didn't say anything," Fay looked at Jacob with true fear in her eyes. For a second the person she saw in front of her wasn't Jacob. Her blood ran cold even though her skin felt hotter then ever.
"We're not using Bella as bate!" Jacob yelled not taking his eyes off Fay.
"Jacob calm down she didn't say that," Sam stood ready to get between the shifter and his sister if needed. Most of the pack were on the edge of their seat ready to pounce if needed.
"I was thinking it though…" Fay whispered.
"Don't say you can read each other's minds now that's just weird," Quil shook his head in the background.
"News flash Quil we can all read each others minds," Embry said slapping him on the back of his head.
"Yeah but not in human form. That's just weird."
"Calm down man, she didn't mean it." Embry said. Jacob had been shaking on the cusp of shifting. Everyone in the room could visibly see when Jacob realised his actions had been wrong and shrunk back from the group.
"I can't even have my thoughts in my human body to myself anymore? Great," Fay curled back into herself. Alone on the big couch she felt venerable. Jacob backed himself against the closest wall, staring at the ground intently now.
"We're not using anyone as bate, I'm sure that's not the context she meant it in either. You can't get angry at Fay for having her own thoughts. Jacob, do you think you could go talk to the Cullen's. Warn them not to cross the boarder again. And keep your head on your shoulders while you do it?" Sam asked his eyes locked on Jacob. Jacob looked over at Fay. She didn't have to read his mind to know what he was asking.
"You're not going to see her alone," Fay said shaking her head.
"Then you come too." Jacob said. "Please," he followed up with softly.
Fay shook her head hating the idea with every fibre of her body.
"Fine let's go," she sighed jumping up and leaving the house without meeting anyones eyes.
###Auther notes
I bet no one was expecting this so soon, i know i wasn't. I hope it makes sense. I hope I'm not missing anything. This wasn't how I thought this chapter would go and the next one is completely out of the blue as well. I don't think it's in a bad way just not in my original story plan. I've been rewatching Eclipse and trying to get the needed bits of it into the story now and peace it all together.
Thank you to everyone who reviewed the last chapter it really meant a lot. Some reason my emails aren't notifying me of reviews so I didn't think I had any until I went into the story and saw so many it was amazing to know people are still out there waiting for theses chapters.
I've looked through a few of my old stories and trying to get the ball rolling on them while I work on a newer idea I've only just put into words. I'm loving that world but trying to get it to match up with the twilight story line isn't easy as I thought. Hopefully I'll work out the kinks and get it up soon. It's featuring one of my favourite OC charters that I've never published. William Black, Jacob's older brother. He went off the deep end after his mothers death and still trying to get his life back on track by the time he shifts for the first time. Now they want him to be Alpha as it's his birth right being Billy's oldest son. He needs to take responsibility of a lot of things at once. He tries to do the right thing even though it blows up in his face more often then not. I love him and can't wait to share him with you all as well.
