Chapter 10
The students tremble at the sights of the gargantuan zero point robots that loom menacingly over them. Their presence in the obstacle race was shocking to say the least and left many with a feeling of foreboding for what else the obstacle course has in store for them.
Kaminari takes a fearful step back, "Are those the Zero point villains from the practical test?!"
"Seriously?! They expect us to fight those?!"
"Is this what they meant by 'obstacles'!?"
The lenses in Peter's mask expand in a wide eyed stare as he gulps nervously. "Ok. Big scary robots of doom surrounding all of us. It's a good thing I pissed before this cause my pants woulda been soiled by now."
He can hear Momo behind him wondering aloud, "Where does the school even get the funding for this?"
Randomly Peter remembers Tony Stark saying that he's one of the investors of UA. He groans and for the first time curses his mentor's money and incredible mechanical genius. Please let these robots be Hammer Tech!
Todoroki, being one of the few unfazed by the sudden appearance, muses, "They obviously went through a lot of trouble, but I wish they'd prepared something a little more difficult."
The faux villain locks its sights on the elemental student and rushes its massive mechanical hand towards the tiny student, but he's shows no fear. In fact he seems annoyed.
"Especially since my dear old dad is watching." Venom evident in his voice. He stomps a foot to the ground, ice instantly materializes underneath, gliding him towards the obstacle and snakes through the robots legs and covers the robot in a frozen prison.
Peter whistles impressed, "If the superhero gig doesn't work out for him, I bet he could make a killing as an artist making ice sculptures from giant killer machines!"
With that, he follows after Todoroki, seeing as how most students are still frozen, hah, in place from shock at the power display. The two breaking from the group seems to wake everyone up as the students realize they now have a way out.
"Hey between its legs! We can get through!"
Peter snorts, "Way ahead of you on that one!"
He vaults through the air and is in hot pursuit directly behind Todoroki and is about to overtake him when he hears the ice powered individual comment, "Careful now. I froze them while they were off balance."
Peter's eyes widen from the implication as the sounds of shattering ice reaches his ears. He stops and turns back, his heart drops as he sees the large group of students running underneath the robot, with said robot visibly becoming loose from the ice holding it up as it tries to break itself free. Oh crap! Peter rushes back, his superpowered muscles making him reach the dangerous area in seconds, just as the faux villain finally begins to free fall. A large part of the student body realize the dangerous position they're in as directly above them a massive metal surface is careening down towards them. Many students scream and cover their heads, bracing for certain death when suddenly a loud bang is heard and nothing happens to them. Kirishima slowly opens one eye and he gasps as he sees, right next to him, a struggling Peter Parker carrying the zero point villain, stopping it from killing everyone.
"Whoa Peter!" he whispers in amazement.
"Engh," he groans, teeth gritted as he struggles under the immense weight of the mechanical behemoth. "The hell was that popsicle thinking?! He could've killed someone!"
"Peter you saved us!"
He groans again as he starts sinking, "That's up for debate at this moment! I'd love to stay and chat but my arms are about to pop out their sockets so can everyone please, GET THE HELL OUT FROM UNDER THIS DEATH MACHINE!"
The students snap into action, some giving Peter a look of gratefulness as they make their way out from under the robot and head out continue the obstacle course. The crowd goes wild as they see the heroic act. Cheers were made to the masked individual who selflessly turned back to help his fellow students despite it possibly costing him the race.
Tony peels back his helmet and smiles, "haha! You never cease to amaze me kid!"
"He really is something isn't he?"
Tony raises an eyebrow as Mirko suddenly materializes next to him. "What's your interest in him?"
"I can ask you the same thing." She fires back.
He's taken aback and she continues, "Don't act all surprised, everyone's been talking about it. You suddenly advocating for this teen to enroll in UA as well as personally requesting to speak with him."
He narrows his eyes, "I had no idea my kind actions were so noteworthy."
She rolls her eyes at that comment, "It's noteworthy that you've shown any interest in the kids you normally avoid like the plague. Kinda makes one wonder what about Peter Parker interested you so much you had to step in yourself?"
Tony puts on his charming billionaire smile, hiding any gives in his figurative mask that she could exploit. "You know us eccentric genius billionaire types, we're kinda random like that."
"So if it's so random, you wouldn't mind me offering him an internship with me?"
He stares back incredulously at the bunny themed hero. She smirks smugly at him, having gotten a reaction from the genius. "You? Offering an internship? Can't blame this on alcohol… you've never given anyone an internship, why would you want to give one to the kid?"
She shrugs and turns her attention back to the race, "You know us eccentric types. We're random like that."
He grumbles, "That's not the word I'd use to describe you."
She raises an eyebrow and side-eye glares at him dangerously, "And what word would you use?"
He clears his throat nervously, "Let's uh let's focus back on the festival shall we?"
Back with Peter
As the last student finally escapes, Peter thanks god before crouching down to his knees then shooting up, letting out a forceful yell as he throws the robot in the air with enough force for him to fire a webline and yank him to safety as it finally meets the earth with a thunderous boom. Peter collapses to all fours as he pants, his muscles on fire. "I really should work out more." He says to himself between pants
Vaguely he can hear Present Mic in the speakers, "THAT'S TODOROKI FROM CLASS 1-A PULLING AHEAD TO AN EARLY LEAD WITH A DEVASTATING DISPLAY!" He slams his hands on the desk as he stands with excitement radiating from his body in waves. "AMAZING! HE'S THE ONE WE SHOULD WATCH! IT ALMOST SEEMS UNFAIR! THOUGHTS?!"
He turns to the wrapped up Aizawa who at first agrees, "His attack was both offensive and defensive—"
"NO WONDER HE WAS LET IN ON RECCOMENDATIONS!-"
"But being first in this race isn't everything." Aizawa finishes, annoyance evident in his voice.
Present Mic gives him a curious look, "Whatcha mean Eraserhead?"
"I mean it's equally impressive for someone to abandon the race to protect the very students he's racing against." The injured hero points out.
"Ahhhh, THAT'S REFFERING TO OUR STUDENT FROM AMERICA, PETER PARKER WHO SHOWED HE'S A LOT STRONGER THAN HE LOOKS WHEN HE LIFTED THE ROBO INFERNOS! I DON'T KNOW HOW HEAVY THOSE THINGS ARE PEOPLE BUT I CAN DEFNITELY SAY THEY'RE NOT LIGHT!"
Aizawa watches as Peter flips from the ground as regular sized Robo infernos appear and attack him. He dodges without looking and loops around it's tail and smashing it against another faux villain, causing them both topple in a heap. Hm, takes a special kind of heart to rush to someones aid even if they're against you. Special but reckless. I may just have two problem children in my class.
"Whoo!" Peter yells as he flips in the air, dodging an incoming missile from a 3 pointer. He lands on the ground and quickly snags the missile with a webline and twirls it in the air and aims it right back at the offending machine. His spider sense tingles and he backflips onto a one pointer, evading the tail of a 3 pointer and he taunts the machine, "Come on big guy I'm right here!"
The machine takes the bait and attacks with it's tail again, smashing into the one pointer as Peter leaps up. He shoots two web lines to the ground and pulls himself back to earth, smashing the machine beneath his feet. "Well that was a lovely warm up but I got a race to win, seeya skynet!"
Peter jumps through the foray. Thankfully, many students were still locked in combat, with Todoroki and Bakugo being the ones heading into the next area of the obstacle course. Peter smiles under his mask as he sees his friend Midoriya confidently battling 3 machines and taking them down with quick succession before heading to the finish line. "Not gonna make it that easy for you Izuku!"
Peter leaps and flips over machines and students alike. Wowing the crowd at his acrobatic display as he twirls and contorts his body to gracefully escape harm in ways that would make even a professional contortionist jealous.
"AND THERE GOES PARKER IN HOT PURSUIT OF MIDORIYA, MAKING IT OUT OF THE ROBO INFERNO WITH GREAT STYLE!"
Up in the stands, Tony smirks as he watches Peter go, "Kid knows how to put on a good show!"
"Did he get his showmanship from you?" Mirko asks.
Tony rolls his eyes, "Just as he got his smart ass comments from you."
Back with Peter, he laughs in relief as he sees that not only is Midoriya close in his line of sight, but he can tell that Bakugo and Todoroki and not that far ahead either. He sees them stop momentarily and he wonders why, until his answer comes in the form of Present Mic's announcement:
"FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO THOUGHT THE FIRST OBSTACLE WAS EASY., LET'S SEE HOW YA FEEL ABOUT THE SECOND ONE!"
As Peter reaches them his eyes widen as he sees an expanse of open space with wire lines attached to pillars that were ground level. Even though he hasn't reached them yet, he can tell that the spaces between are very deep. He inhales deeply before he presses on, determined to show the world what he's made of.
"IF THEY TAKE A SPILL, THEY'RE OUT! IF THEY WANNA PASS THIS TEST, THEY'LL HAVE TO GET CREATIVE!"
The crowd begin to murmur nervously as unlike the trio ahead, he doesn't stop as he gets closer to the edge. In fact, he runs faster, his limbs practically a blur to the naked eye. Even Todoroki gapes as Peter rushes past him and Bakugo and leaps high and far into the air then plunges down, his limbs flailing. Many in the crowd scream in terror as he seems to plummet to his death. Then they're silenced in awe as he shoots webbing to a nearby pillar, the force of his momentum causes him to rise high into the air. Releasing the web, he T poses as he flips back right side up and slings another webline and the crowd watches in silent amazement as he swings through the vast expanse.
"Whoa." Midoriya whispers.
He had seen Peter swing before, but this… this was different. His friend was soaring through the air, so free, so agile, it was unlike anything he has ever seen before. To put it short, it was Spectacular!
"This is so cool!" Peter exclaims as he begins to nose dive, "Now I just gotta keep from throwing up!"
Another web launches from his wrist, allowing him to swing at top speeds, his feet a hairs breath away from the body of the chasm before rising into the sky like a dove, his arms spread out, his head tilted back and he even closes his eyes, embracing the feeling of flying before making his return down. He shoots two webs at twin pillars and shoots back up into the air and does a quadruple front flip before landing like a spider on the other side of the expanse. The crowd goes wild at the amazing display, their Cheers shaking the entire stadium!
"AMAZING! SPECTACULAR! SENSATIONAL! I CAN'T THINK OF ANY OTHER WORDS TO DESCRIBE IT PEOPLE! HE'S MADE IT OUT AND INTO THE NEXT OBSTACLE! AND THE COMPETITION IS FIRED UP WITH MIDORIYA COASTING BY TODOROKI AND THE BLONDE BOMBER ON HIS HEEL!"
Peter chances a look back and does in fact see Midoriya chasing after him, the lightning arching from his body, a grin of determination fixed onto his expression. Peter also notices an increasingly frustrated Todoroki glaring at him followed by, Peter stifles a laugh, Bakugo practically frothing in the mouth and the veins in his red eyes becoming more and more prominent.
"THERE'S NO STOPPING PARKER! EVEN AS HE APPROACHES THE MINEFIELD!"
huh?
"The what?"
His spider sense tingles and he somersaults to the left as an explosion goes off, the force affecting his balance but otherwise he's ok. I should've realized there was something fishy about a wide open and empty space. Ok spider sense don't fail me now. Readying himself, Peter leaps through the air, allowing his sixth sense to guide his feet as he lands, nimbly criss crossing the dirt path and he begins sprinting closer and closer to the finish line. He can hear the sounds of rapid explosions gaining on him and he pushes forward, gritting his teeth as he takes two purposeful steps forward then jumps with all the strength his legs can muster, he pushes off the ground, soaring through the air like a missile. He astonishingly jumps across the field and he sees the tunnel leading to the field. He quickly webzips forward and lands in the tunnel he continues running but notices someone right beside him. It was Izuku, though surprised the two share a smirk before sprinting faster, both pushing themselves to their limit. With the finish line right before them, they leap, hands outstretched.
They both land in a heap and the crowd goes wild! Deafening cheers rocks the world at the stunning climax to the race.
"INCREDIBLE! IN A STUNNING TURN OF EVENTS, PETER PARKER AND IZUKU MIDORIYA HAVE COME FROM DEAD LAST TO A TIE FOR FIRST PLACE! PARKER WITH AN INCREDIBLE USE OF HIS SPIDER QUIRK AND SUPPORT GEAR AND MIDORIYA USING A COMBINATION OF HIS ENHANCEMENT QUIRK AND THE MINES LITERING THE FIELD! ERASERHEAD YOUR STUDENTS ARE AMAZING! WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU TEACHING THEM!?"
Aizawa narrows his eyes as he gazes at the panting students at the finish line, who're joined by Todoroki and Bakugo. "I had nothing to do with it. Each of them is powered by their own drive to succeed."
"THERE YOU HAVE IT FOLKS! ERASERHEAD IS A TERRIBLE TEACHER!"
"I'm what?!"
Peter laughs at their back and forth and gets up. He offers a hand to Izuku, who graciously accepts it. Pulling himself up he congratulates Peter, "Good job making it to first place!"
"Back at you! But did you realy use the mines to catch up?"
Sheepishly Midoriya smiles, "Yea, I was starting to go over the 5% of full cowling and I was starting to get too strained so I had to think of something."
Peter just shakes his head incredulously, "Man I'm glad you're not a villain or else we'd all be in trouble."
"W-what do you mean?"
"Forgot it, just smile and wave Midoriya. Smile and wave!"
Authors note: Hey guys! sorry how long it took to get this chapter out, i hope you enjoyed it despite the short length in comparison to the previous ones. I do appreciate those who were patient and of course those who favorited and followed! i can't believe i've gotten to over a boo favorites! thank you!
I'm sure you're all wondering about why it took so long, well i jsut had lost my motivation for the story at the time. I'm not gonna abandon it though, even if it takes me years to finish this story and the next one i have planned set in the future, i'm still gonna do it. But i needed a break. I also did a lot of restructuring for the rest of my story. i did it because when i read back on all my authors notes, i realized i've been revealing way too much of what i have planned. i'd rather have jsut let my story do the answering, so i intentionally changed a lot fo what i have planned os that everyone will remain surprised and so that the sotry remains the way i had envisioned it. And in order to keep it that way, i'm going to be much more vague in my answers to reviews. of course i'll still answer some questions but i'm not gonna do a full length explanantion anymore and I'm sorry to say but if i can't see a way for me to answer it without revealing more than i'm comfortable with, then i will have to refrain from answering. Of course i'll let you knwo fi ti comes to that but i hope you understand. I also want to make clear that i don't want to debate. i never intended to nor do i have any intentions to do so. i only wanted to answer some questions so that's another reason why i'm going to be more vague with my answers as well.
I hope you all understand and i hope there's no hard feelings when it comes to that but i want people to enjoy my story, i want to have the chance to world build. and just to make clear for everyone, as i stated in my earlier chapters, the marvel universe will have a very light influence in the story. i'm not gonna include more characters than what i already have prepared and they will be revealed in time. any references i make will be just that, references. if i decide to go deeper with them i will. but don't be surprised if i don't on some of them, consider them easter eggs.
Now the last thing i want to address is some of the reviews and messages i received over the last two months. again i appreciate those who love my story but some people went overboard. i had many messages from people who rather rudely demanded me to publish the next chapter. i understand that a lot of people were waiting for some time but that doesn't give you the right to curse me out or make any demands. if i was as petty a person as i used to be, i would've abandoned this story out of spite. but i'm not that person anymore and i'm not gonna abandon this story. but guys just be nice. i'm writing this story because it makes me happy and i'm happy it makes other people happy. But that happiness quickly goes away when people cross lines. And this next part wasn't so bad but, i was already in a crappy mood from the messages i was getting and then finding people dropping reviews in my other story asking me to update this one really rubbed me the wrong way and i politely made it known there. but please keep the reviews separate. That's all i wanted to say, again sorry for the wait. the next chapter will be out next week and it'll be the normal length i usually make my chapters. i just wanted to bring this chapter out and also get this off my chest before i continue. anyway till next time everyone. enjoy.
