Chapter 86: Blue.
The Loud residence, 12 years ago.
"Ribbit, ribbit"
"The little froggy goes ribbit, ribbit"
"The little froggy goes ribbit, ribbit"
"The little froggy goes ribbit, ribbit"
- Hey! I was going to sing it -
- Na-ah! My turn! -
- But I'm froggy -
- No, I'm froggy! -
- Not fair! Mom! - Young 4 year old Lola ran to her mother, who was just passing by the main couch after doing the Laundry and narrowly avoiding a rushing Lynn Jr.
- Yes sweetie? - Rita crouched to her little baby's height with a kind expression.
- Lana said I don't be froggy - Lola said with a frown.
- Now now baby, you were froggy yesterday, let Lana do it today - Rita said with a compassionate, yet firm tone, making the other little girl muster a victorious smirk.
Lola said nothing in return and simply got back on the couch, with a defeated expression, while Rita, satisfied with the conflict over, took her chance to hide herself in her room, shielding herself from the infernal event that was hearing "The Little Froggy Song" on repeat.
- yay! I win - Lana stood up and made little froggy hops upon her victory, with Lola growing impatient at her outburst.
- … I want to be froggy - She said angrily.
- Mom said us to share, I want to be froggy today! - Lana receded her excited bouncing, hoping to talk to her sister.
- Then who I be? - Lola said in frustration, pointing to the screen at the repetitive song that only showed one frog bouncing from one water lily to another.
- Well you be froggy 2 - Lana said encouragingly.
- No, you be froggy 2! - Lola said with increasing anger.
- Nah, I wanna be froggy 1! - Lana started losing her temper similarly.
- No, me! - Lola was approaching conflict.
- No, me! - Lana played along.
- Me! - Lola continued
- Me! - Lana insisted.
- You don't be froggy 1! - Lola snapped further
- So do! - Lana reveled childishly
- So not! - Now Lola played along.
- So do! -
- So not! -
- SO DO! -
- SO NOT! -
- Why? Why don't I be froggy 1, why do ya always be 1? - Lana was going into tantrum territory.
- What? - Little Lola stopped her temper for a moment -
- I wanna be numbuh 1 too, I wanna plan birthday too, I want mom and dad hear me too! - Little Lana began rambling, a few tears slipping from her deep blue eyes as she continued to complain.
- Nah, you don't be number 1! my parties are better! - Lola addressed her comment with high dignity.
- You never let me, how would ya know! - Lana had lost it - Mom told me I was older, so I'm bigger and better than you! -
- Nah, I'm better than you! I hop better than you, and mom likes my ideas better! - Lola intensified the argument.
- Yeah? Well Linky told me that I'm better, and he likes me more! - Lana was out of options, she pulled her ultimate weapon where she knew that she had the upperhand, sticking her tongue out in the process.
- *Gasp* HE WHAT? HOW DARE YOU! - Lola said with complete disbelief, before throwing herself at her twin.
And for the first time in their young lives, a physical altercate between the two happened, leading to some members of the family hearing the noise and intervening.
- Hey, what's going on here? - Lynn Sr. emerged from the kitchen, separating the twins from their fight, which fortunately did not leave any bruises on them.
- She said I don't be froggy 1! - Lana started explaining, still with lingering anger.
- Well she said that Linky likes her more! - Lola intervened as well, venting her frustration.
- Lana, is that true? - The man patiently asked the older twin with concern.
- Yeah, he said I'm sweeter and nicer! - Lana crossed her arms with pride.
- Uh, girls? - From behind his dad, a 9-year old boy approached the girls.
- Linky! - The twins shouted in unison while hugging him dearly.
Lynn Sr. only stood there with a comforting smile, the warm aura that his only son emitted was usually good enough to calm his little girls, he knew right there that Lincoln, even at his only 9 years of age, was probably better equipped at sorting their issue than he was, he was utterly proud of his son being such a great brother, so he simply left the scene to go back to the kitchen.
- Ok, why so blue Lans? What happened? - Lincoln went to get the older twin's attention first, which slightly bothered Lola.
- Lola said I don't be froggy 1 'cause I'm not numbuh 1! Tell her Linky, I'm your favorite right? - Lana pointed to Lola with renewed spite.
- Not true right Linky? I'm your favorite! - Lola looked directly at his eyes, showing her sparkly blue eyes full of confidence and anticipation.
Lincoln stood there for a moment looking at neither, as he sorted his thoughts, this hesitation was not rubbing Lola the right way.
He turned to Lana first, placing his arms on her shoulders and kneeling down to her height, again bothering Lola further.
- Lana, you're a kind and compassionate girl, you should know better than to let yourself go with the idea of being number 1, remember, it doesn't really matter, as long as you're doing what you love, you should always be happy with who you are and what you're doing! - Lincoln said with a kind voice, making her look up to him dreamily.
After that, he turned his attention to Lola, who stood there impatiently, tapping the floor with her foot.
- And Lola, you're a really talented girl and I know how hard you dedicate yourself to achieving your goals, but remember what I have always told you in those little princess tales, a true princess is not the one that boasts about her things or her worth to others, but the one who can make the people around her look up to her for her interior qualities - He finished while rubbing the top of her head with his hand.
After that, he stood up and looked at them both.
- Girls, I don't have a favorite sister, you don't need to fight for being number one at anything, you both have your own special qualities, so why not share them instead of competing? - He left them with the thought as he resumed his way upstairs to read what Lola could only assume to be his dumb Ace Savvy magazines in peace.
After that, the girls stood there, thinking over what their brother had told them, after a while, Lana was the first to emit a long sigh, before directing her attention back at her twin with a mellowed expression.
- I'm sorry Lola, you be froggy 1 today - Lana said while raising her arms for a sibling hug.
- No Lana, you be - Lola stopped her, however, as she insisted on her part.
- Really? - Lana looked up with sparkles in her innocent blue eyes, before enveloping her sister in a bear hug - Thank you! - She said sincerely, making Lola return the hug, hesitantly.
- No prob, I'm going to my room - Lola said weirdly, making Lana raise an eyebrow.
- But song is not ovah, you be froggy 2! - Lana said while extending an arm to lift herself back to the couch.
- Thanks, but I want Mr. Sprinkles now - Lola excused herself, before going back up, Lana knew that her twin was hiding something, but she always used Mr. Sprinkles for that, so she let go of the notion and continued singing the song.
Little did she know, that would be the last time she would watch "The Little Froggy Song" with her dear twin.
Lola arrived to her pristine princess bed with her little teddy bear in her hands, and upon hitting the soft mattress and getting a good hold of her premiere companion, she laid down and hugged him dearly.
Then, she cried.
Realizing that her Linky did have a favorite, it was no match, he went for Lana first, he comforted her first, and when he looked at her, his stare was not as warm as the one that he had with Lana.
"a true princess is not the one that boasts about her things or her worth to others, but the one who can make the people around her look up to her for her interior qualities"
But what if she didn't have said qualities?
Why would she care anyway? He can choose Lana all he wants, she was better than all of them!
Or maybe, she wasn't good enough?
Maybe she wasn't a true princess yet because she was still lacking in grace and pose, or… maybe, it was her lack of beauty?
What was she doing acting like a frog? That was for Lana, not her!
She slipped from under her bed to grab a hold of one of the many fashion magazines that her dim-witted sister had left in the couch, Leni was beautiful, and Linky also seemed to love her a lot.
Leni was also older than her, she was a little kid, surely that had something to do as well?
She didn't understand a word of what was written in the magazine, she only cared about the pictures of the women featured in it, all standing confident, proud, beautiful, perfect, she admired the girls in the magazine, how they looked, the clothes that they were wearing, she imagined herself as being like one of them, standing proud, firm, powerful, like a true princess.
A princess that would be loved by everyone!
On the corner of that page, there was something more, there were also children, like her, in it, with crowns and jewels and tiaras, like a princess! she grew curious.
She went to ask her mom for it.
That's when she learned about it: Child beauty pageants.
And she never looked back.
Lana can stay with her toads, she'll go for shiny tiaras!
She is meant to be number 1.
? - Present
Lola had a slight flashback of a very early memory, a memory that had remained long dormant in her until one of her sessions with Dr. López made her look back, trying to explain her issues with receiving attention and her early life choices.
And once again, she was feeling mad at herself for it, even back then, her infant self was already trying to hog all of the praise to herself, without even considering her dear twin.
She still didn't understand why she didn't score enough to be officially diagnosed with Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
… Apparently, empathy had something to do with it, but how could she even know if that empathy was real? Nothing in her was real…
She stopped herself from delving into her mind any further, for now, she would leave those thoughts for her scheduled therapy sessions, having long ago accepted the fact that she would need them for years to come, there was going to be more than enough time for her to sort them out.
Right now, she was just focused on driving Lincoln's car through the rocky, rural road leading to a farm that was once well known for its intensive productivity of cherries.
That was of course, before the S.U.S.P.E.N.S.E terrorist group spread a virus to make cherries extinct in favor of peach monocrops.
Ironically, the world did need a devoted hero willing to do absurd detective work after all.
(And you took that away from the world too).
Right, she needed to be strong now, her work was not over yet until she could get her to listen.
At last, she had reached her destination.
The Hunnicutt farm.
She carefully pulled out of the car to not be detected right away, why you ask?
Easy, the place was obvious.
Where else could have Lana Loud gone to?
But she knew her twin still, despite the giant cryogenic wall of blue ice that had separated them ever since… that fair talk, she just knew that Lana had probably made countless strategies to hide from the police and anyone that came looking for her in that place, Liam was probably a good actor as well.
A farm has very good hiding places after all, and with that smell… it probably wasn't in the best of interest for anyone to inquire further, better to just declare her as "missing".
But she could feel it, down to her very soul, her twin radar was tingling strongly, she knew that Lana was here.
She simply took a step forward, trying to avoid the impulse to run away from the animals that had managed to notice her, among the hordes of chicken, pigs, cows and a very angry looking goat.
Her casual pink sweater was probably not going to survive either, what with the deep pools of mud that some animals were jumping in to hide from her creating splashes directed at her.
She just hopped that there wasn't an angry guardian dog ready to strike, it was still a commercial farm… right?
Somehow, she did it, she reached the front door to the Hunnicutt's house, what little she remembers from it, but what if it wasn't their house anymore?
She mustered all of her courage to knock the door.
- Go away, me farm accepts no visitors today! - A deep angry southern accent voice was heard inside, she could very faintly recognize it, but it had to belong to Liam.
Lola insisted.
- For the love of… read the sign will ya? I ain't taking orders until the 3rd, scram or I'll bring the shotgun! -
Lola kept knocking, undeterred.
At last, the door opened with a loud thud.
Indeed, the man who answered stood to his words, looking angrily at the uninvited guest with a shotgun pointed at her.
- Now I'm making myself clear? - He threatened with a clear disposition to pull the trigger.
- Hi Liam, it's been awhile - Lola crossed her arms, painfully unamused at his threat.
Upon visual recognition, Liam stood still, changing his expression of anger to one of fear.
But no real man points a gun at a lady.
- … This bollock again? I already told y'all I don't know where your sister is! - He lowered the gun, but remained defensive.
- Curious you mention her, I hadn't even asked - Lola grinned devilishly, keeping her stoic attitude.
- That's all y'all ever come to me farm for, course I would ey - Liam started sweating a little, the sole presence of the legendary Pink Menace was somehow getting on his nerves.
- Well… I never came here for one, I could just be a poor misguided woman asking for indications because I got lost and thought that maybe a former friend of my brother would be so kind as to assist me with that? - Lola shrugged with feigned resignation - But thanks anyway, I see you have gotten quite worked up at the notion of me coming to maybe… ask where my dear long lost twin is - She kept looking at him with a penetrating glare and a confident smile.
- D-don't you modern gals have a GPS thing for that - Liam resisted her games, but started stuttering - There's not much goin' on on this part of the road anyway, better turn back now -
- Oh, you're so right Liam, so foolish of me! - Lola playfully feigned ignorance, making the redhead more impatient along the way - …man, I'm so dumb to not remember that detail, I'm kind of hopeless, don't you think? - The blonde rolled her eyes - oh I'm so lost and sooo thirsty - she acted dramatically - and then I come across one of the nicest guys I've ever met in hopes of actually receiving some help, and what do I get? That same guy pointing a gun to my face… yeah… not nice at all - she said disparagingly with an expression of tragedy - …hey, wouldn't you be a real gentleman and make it up by inviting me to come over for a glass of water, I'm sure that would be ok if you have nothing to hide - She half-closed her eyes and arranged her hands in a pleading fashion while making the biggest shit-eating grin that she could.
- …I k-know all about your games Lola, good try but you ain't gettin' in - Liam remained firm, blocking the door.
- Oh really? You know how I play then~ - Lola played cool - I wonder who told you that?~
At this moment, Liam knew that he was losing the battle.
- L-look lil' lass, I ain't got nothing to do with your family business anymore ok? Me house here's a bit on the messy side, ol' Virginia's daughters live inside and you really don't wanna get in to pigs smell in the morning - Liam stuttered further, but remained firm on the ground.
- Oh don't worry about it, I don't mind the smell, there's a reason I'm Lana Loud's twin sister after all, now wouldn't you be a real man and invite a girl over, it's getting kind of cold outside, doesn't it get rainy here? - Lola pleaded with her trademark™ puppy eyes.
Liam refused to answer or make a movement, looking at her with an increased frown.
- Besides, doesn't it get kind of lonely here, such a handsome young man all on his own, wouldn't you like some female company here? - Lola placed her index on Liam's chest and licked her lips with a sultry look - I know the kind of relationship that you had with her back then - She approached his ear to whisper huskily - Wouldn't you like to revive that? We look very similar, wouldn't you agree?~ -
- L-look lass, I-I'm hooked already aright? - Liam was paralyzed, the pink menace could be a real seductress if she wanted.
- Really? That's wonderful! May I meet her? I'd rather have a girl talk - Lola returned to her original position and folded her arms again.
She got him right where she wanted.
- S-she's not here ya see, currently going on the district to sell our stuff and-
- Didn't you say that you weren't attending until the third? - Lola raised an eyebrow with a confident smirk.
- … -
- Cut the crap already Liam, I know she's here, whatever issues that you or her may have with my family are irrelevant, I didn't come to accuse you or take her away, I just came to talk - Lola stood firmly, now with a serious expression.
To which Liam couldn't object, she had easily uncovered the truth where actual police officers failed, he knew there wasn't anyway around this girl, he simply stood aside and waited in front of the door.
As Lola advanced through the wooden house, which was indeed emanating the delicious fragrance of pigs everywhere, she reached the supposed living room, which contained nothing but a lit chimney and a few reclining chairs around it.
One of which supported a silhouette that was being obscured by the dim atmospheric backlighting created by the fire in front of said chair.
As Lola approached from behind, she knew that the silhouette would not make the slightest effort to look back, no matter how noisy the creaking of the wood was with every single footstep that she took.
But she knew it was her, an unmistakable red cap, long pigtails that descended through her frame, a scent that she could recognize here and in the moon.
She felt the need to simply rush in and hug her from behind…
But she had to remember her place.
Lola stopped her advances inches away from her and turned around, facing opposite of that chair, she decided to sit on the cold wood, uncaring of the state of her current attire, and supported her head against that chair.
In that moment, nobody else existed.
Surprisingly, Lana spoke first.
- So, you found me -
- You dear boyfriend wasn't making it easy… But you can never run away from me, that stench of yours can be detected from miles away - Lola replied with a sigh.
- Didn't we make a deal to never see each other again -
- Yeah… but then again, someone broke the terms before, so I guess the deal was off -
- … -
- … -
- …Do I need to know? -
- Yes, Lana, Lincoln and I got back together -
- …How? -
- I guess Lisa's experiment failed, that or the "power of love", I dunno -
- Why then? -
- Well… maybe I wanted to celebrate my 17th birthday with the person that happened to share my exact birth date? -
- Still referring to yourself only huh? -
- I mean… for more than 5 years now, it really had just been about me… - Lola recoiled slightly, grabbing her knees with her arms.
- Do I have a say? -
- Yes, you do, more than me in fact -
- And if I say no? -
- I will understand, leave you alone, and never come back, I will never tell anyone that you're here either -
- …How can I trust you? -
- That's the bitchy part, I don't have an answer to that… you'll just have to trust your gut -
- …My gut told me, long ago, to trust your word, and it failed me -
- Well… your gut wasn't always wrong -
- Huh? -
- …That's how you found out first, wasn't it? -
- … -
- I have a question -
- … -
- Didn't you feel that my excuses were… phony, at times? -
- All the time -
- And… didn't you feel the need to confront me before? -
- …yes -
- Why did you wait until after I… confessed then? -
- Because I still wanted to believe your words, Lola -
- …Words that I had already mishandled to manipulate everyone in that house? -
- I thought I was the exception -
- Heh… so did Lincoln -
- What did that bring you? -
- …Suffering, but you already knew that -
- Why couldn't you just be honest to yourself at least? -
- …Because that would mean that I would have to admit to being froggy 2 -
At that, the reclining chair started moving, balancing itself as the girl sitting in from of the fire pondered things.
- …So that's why you stopped singing with me? -
- Come on Lana, that song was annoying, we would have gotten bored of it very quickly anyway -
- … -
- … But, yes, I guess that's why… I just knew that trying to compete in your niche was a pointless endeavor -
- … Toads? -
- No, the whole being "sweeter" and "nicer" thing -
- … -
- That's why I chose Tiaras -
- And you were incredible at those -
- … "A true princess is not the one that boasts about her things or her worth to others, but the one who can make the people around her look up to her for her interior qualities" -
- …Lincoln said that, I remember -
- …And that's why I was never good at wearing those either -
- …So that's what bothered you back then -
- You knew that I was feeling bad? -
- Of course I did, that was what my gut was for, but I guess you always had your teddy bear for the more "intimate" questions -
- …Heh, at least yours was a living being… closest thing I got was a wild skunk -
- …Right -
At last, Lola gathered the courage to stand up, still without facing her twin.
- Lana, I'm tired of lying, to you and to myself, I'm going to come clear, for once and for all -
- … -
- I was jealous of you, thorough all of our childhood, you always had an easier time around people and animals alike, you were always the trustful mechanic prodigy that everyone needed one way or another, and I had no doubt in my heart that back then… You were Lincoln's favorite -
- Lincoln didn't have a favorite sister Lola -
- Ugh, Lana, you still believe that? Everyone knew that Lincoln's favorite sister back then was Lynn… but… from the two of us, I knew that he preferred you -
- … -
- You were always nicer to him, knew how to play videogames, sometimes liked to indulge in his superhero games and read comics with him… -
- … -
- And i couldn't do anything about that, because I was all pageants and glitter back then, so I fooled myself into thinking that I didn't need you… and well, you know how that ended -
- … -
- I didn't actually dislike your pets, or the mud pies, or the motor oil, or doing stupid fart noises with my armpits… I don't even dislike the smell in this place right now… I've smelt worse, trust me -
- … -
- The only thing that I truly disliked, was how I though I couldn't allow myself to enjoy living a normal childhood with you just because I wanted to be pink and perfect -
- … -
- You know? One of the happiest memories of my life… was when we played at swapping "jobs" with each other, dressing in your blue overalls felt… liberating, like a missing piece in the puzzle… that I quickly forced myself to forget -
- … I no longer wear blue overalls -
- And yet… I still sense blue all over you, sister, over us -
- Come again? -
- "Why so blue Lans?" - Lola couldn't help but to smirk to herself at the quote.
- Don't you dare -
- Isn't it curious? That the color of Sadness, can also mean inner beauty and peace? -
- Colors are meaningless -
- Not for me, Lans, and certainly not for you either, Blue is also the color of trust and loyalty, and no matter how much I don't deserve it anymore… I think, there are other people that would -
- …Again, colors are meaningless -
- Then why did you stop wearing blue? -
- I just didn't feel like it -
Lola simply hummed.
At last, Lana raised from her chair, the twins now stood in front of each other, but with their backs still facing each other.
- Grrr, I don't need to trust ANYONE anymore, I have Liam, we're happy here, we don't need your family, we don't need your pity, we don't need the input from a mentally ill brat and her incestuous "boyfriend", and we certainly don't need you trying to manipulate us into going back to that hellhole, who knows? Maybe that way it'll be easier to get my Liam in jail? -
- You know Lana, there was a time were I thought the same things, I had Lincoln to myself, I was happy, I didn't need a family and I didn't need friends either, he was my everything, and I was devoted exclusively to him… you wanna guess how that ended? -
- Well too bad you did such a poor job hiding it, not my problem -
- May I remind you why we were caught? - Lola actually got angry for a moment.
- May I remind you why I was banned from coming here? - Lana retaliated with equal spite.
- I can't expect you to believe me, I understand that… so let's assume I did it ok? - Lola sighed, before continuing - … Isn't that enough Lana? You saw what happened, you know what Lisa gave me, you know exactly how many unsuccessful therapies I had to go through, so many years of isolation because our parents were afraid of him even showing up at school, you also know the fact that now I'm dependent on a drug to remain even stable -
- Agh, yes of course I know you h-
- And I don't hate you, not one bit Lana, I don't even recent you anymore -
- Well you should Lola, this is what I mean, colors are meaningless, you yourself said it, I betrayed you too, didn't I? We had a deal and I broke it this time, forget about stupid "Loyalty" or "Inner beauty" or whatever, I'm just as rotten as you, I don't even have the right to be depressed right now, I'm with Liam now so it doesn't even matter anymore! - Lana snapped, as her twin could only stay mute while her sobbing commenced.
- …Lana -
- No, hold it! I'm not done - Lana raised I hand while clearing some tears from her eyes - Blue should not be my color, it should be green… I was fucking jealous Lola, like real damn jealous, you were prettier, stronger and bolder than I ever was, I always knew that deep inside, you were always closer to the kind of girl that Lincoln liked, I knew that as soon as he saw the real you, he would start hanging out more with you than with me -
- … -
- … So that's why I always told myself that I was his favorite, that way I would always have an advantage over you, I hated the fact that you were a better planner, I hated the fact that you always had crowds of people cheering over you… and no matter how many times I remembered Lincoln's words - She sighed - … I hated the fact that I would never be froggy 1, despite the fact that i'm the older twin -
- … -
- And… when I started seeing you get closer to him again… even if it was through your own, scheming methods, I started feeling like if I didn't belong in that house anymore - Lana started to chuckle darkly - To think I was afraid of sleepovers until you guys helped me… -
- …Right, your first sleepover at Liam's was to clear your fear wasn't it? -
- …Sorta, Lynn had a hand in that too, and I did have a blast that day, and well… let's be honest Lola, we didn't share that much in common anymore -
- We did… I just didn't show it Lans -
- Yeah… that sucked -
- …Look at us, fighting so much over petty jealousy, we really didn't grow up much eh? -
- Hey, they called you the "mature" one -
- And now I might as well be a "womanchild" -
- … -
- … -
- Well… I might still be childish myself, but now I'll have greater responsibilities, so might as well get rid of this hate stuff -
- Wait, what? - It was at this moment that Lola finally turned around, surprised at the fact that Lana had done the same thing.
And for once in more than 5 years, she had direct eye contact with her estranged twin.
But despite the importance of the moment, something even more impactful caught her attention, as she lowered her eyes to focus on Lana's belly, which was being barely covered by a green sweater.
And she almost lost her breathing, covering her mouth with her hands as tears simply flew out of her eyes in rapid succession.
That definitely wasn't a belly inflated due to excess food.
- L-Lana! - Lola couldn't even think, as she started hyperventilating -
- I'm sorry Lols, I really am, I gotta be honest with you too… I don't hate you anymore, I was just too ashamed to even look at you, my struggle was hard, and being with Liam hasn't been easy, I also had to disconnect from everyone to be here, and yes, trusting people is hard now… but even I know, it doesn't even compare to what you had to go through - Lana declared with a mellowed expression, as she softly rubbed her belly.
- H-how many? -
- About 7 months in - Lana commented calmly.
- W-wait, so you where still in the house!? - Lola was taken back by her answer.
- Yeah… that's kinda why I… had to leave that place - Lana rolled her eyes and looked to the side, blushing slightly - Promise that you won't get mad? - She asked quietly.
Being a mother at age 16 is not an easy path after all.
- Oh, Lans! - Instead, when Lola retired her hands from her mouth, all she could show was the biggest ear to ear grin she has ever mustered, leaving Lana in a daze.
- Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh - Lola was starting to jump in her feet like a little frog - Is it a boy or a girl? What's his or her name? Oh you have to tell me EVERYTHING! -
- Eh… the doctors told me it's a girl, and we're still deciding on her name - Lana tried to reply calmly, but she was now doubt taken aback by Lola's sudden scream.
Specially as she sent the chair standing in between them flying away to hug her with all of her might (but careful to not hurt the baby!)
- Woah calm down sis, my mate doesn't like his stuff trashed! -
- Don't care! - Lola simply closed her eyes and hugged her tighter.
- Of course you don't - Lana simply rolled her eyes, but couldn't avoid the reflex to return the hug, after years of lies and hatred, feeling the sweet relief of a warm hug with the second most important person in her life (Well… soon to be third!), she could contain it no longer, as the waterfalls broke completely.
Lola, likewise, was still at a loss of words, having just found out that her dear twin was having a baby and that she didn't actually hate her anymore brought a wave of happiness that she had long ago felt numb for.
Although, she still had to make sure…
- Lans? -
- Y-yeah? -
- Do you… not find it gross anymore? -
- …Tell you a secret? -
- mmm? -
- …I also though that Lincoln was cute -
- Seriously? -
- Sure, like, I never thought about the idea of dating him, but I could kinda see were you were coming from -
- … So all this talk about incest being wrong -
- I mean it is… that's what everyone had told me, and yeah, I did feel really grossed out at first, but I was mostly hurt by the lies Lols - Lana replied sincerely while still supporting her head in her shoulders.
- …And now? - Lola remained doubtful.
- You know something that I learned with Liam? -
- huh? -
- "You can't help who you fall In love with" - Lana responded with a serene smile.
And that was it for Lola as well, as her long contained tears of self-hatred and frustration finally took a hold of her repressed heart, and allow the torrential storm to flow.
A few minutes into the reunion, the two emotional twins separated to look at each other in their swollen eyes again, no reservations this time.
- I love you Lols, for real - Lana declared.
- Not as much as I love you, Lans - Lola remained competitive, earning a chuckle from her twin.
A few moments went in silence, until the twins decided to move along with their important talk.
- So, Lola, now that we're chill, is there something else that you wanna talk about? - Lana crossed her arms, changing to a more serious demeanor.
- Lana… I want to fix our family - Lola mimicked her expression.
- Well… tough job, what do you have in mind? - Lana raised an eyebrow.
- … Do i have your trust? - Lola looked to the side with doubt.
- As blue as it can be! - Lana replied confidently, making her dear twin spurt a smile.
- Ok, in that case, how about we plan our 17th birthday? - Lola said while looking warmly at her sister.
- mmm… - Lana thought about it - …nah, you do it, yours are better - She simply let go with a quick hand-wave.
- Come on, let's both do it, ok? - Lola insisted.
- You're the one with the plan - Lana refused happily.
- Heh, I like that, "The woman with the plan" - Lola placed her hand in her chin in thinking fashion.
- Now you're just copying Lincoln - Lana rolled her eyes.
- Ugh, trust me, if you had to endure that dork's attitude thorough the whole day, you would also end up infected by his sickening habits…- Lola looked down, faking annoyance, but was ultimately unable to hide the sparks in her eyes as she said that.
- Ew, you really are still madly in love with your brother aren't ya? - Lana cringed slightly.
- And you're about to have Liam's baby as a teenager Lans, I should probably call you irresponsible, but you know "love is love" - Lola countered, to which her twin actually chuckled slightly.
And then the mood shifted again, as Lana applied a stern look to the ex-pageant competitor.
- …So, our birthday is in one month, I assume you want to invite the whole family right? - The soon-to-be mother inquired curiously.
- Pretty much, so, um, do we have a deal? - Lola confirmed while nervously extending her hand for another handshake.
- Count me in! - Lana said excitedly, and didn't even hesitate for a moment before dumping a giant, smelly, spit in her hand.
- Deal! - And for the first time ever, Lola actually spit in her hand as well, making a big, wet, popping sound as their saliva-filled hand collided.
- And then I'll show you the reason behind this mess - Lola thought to herself.
Author's Notes: Well, seems like we'll have a new character soon! I'm still undecided on the name for a Liam x Lana daughter so i'm open to suggestions.
SuperLuigiFan18: I hope that this gives some closure to Lana's whereabouts! The others are going to be reunited as per Lincoln and Lola's plan, so stay tuned.
king Ks: Glad to know "Red" gave you an emotional ride, this chapter is not as hostile, but I still hope the emotion is there!
tylerdunkley82: Yeah, that has always been the problem with Lynn, as seen in the actual show, she doesn't open up easily, and she's a hard believer of tough love and winning through blood and sweat, which is not necessarily a bad phllosophy of life, but certainly didn't help her situation in this fic as her brother simply chose to center his world on Lola instead. As for the age of the characters: Lincoln is currently 21 and Lola and Lana are on their late 16s about to turn 17.
