Four children, who have pasts filled with pain, meet each other and develop an unexpected friendship. Eventually, they become fed up with their suffering and decide to leave their home and become legendary ninjas on their own. Can they succeed in their goals or will the four be crushed under the weight of the harsh shinobi world?

The gates of the Leaf Village appear and open as you move closer to them. You start to move through the Leaf Village as people are going about their day until you arrive at the Hokage Monument. On the Hokage Monument are four children; From left to right these children are Hyūga Hinata, Uzumaki Naruto, Uchiha Sasuke, and Haruno Sakura.

Days when

We'd fight, we'd fight 'til I would give in

Hinata, whose color has faded out, is walking through the Hyūga Compound with her head down as flashes of her father, Hiashi, looking down at her with disappointment, her cousin, Neji, ridiculing her, and her little sister Hanabi looking back at her with longing eyes as she was dragged away by the Hyūga Elders float through her mind. When the flashes end, tears fall from her eyes, and she breaks down into sobs.

Yeah, perfect disasters

We were reaching, reaching for the rafters

Naruto, who has also lost color, is walking through the village with his head down as flashes of people looking at him with fear and hate, throwing him out of stores, and shouting various insults fly through his mind. When the flashes end, Naruto's eyes harden, and he breaks off into a sprint.

And on most of the days we were searching for ways

To get up and get out of the town we were raised, yeah

'Cause we were done

Sasuke, whose color has become muted as well, is walking through the Uchiha Compound as flashes of the bodies of his fallen clan, his dead parents lying motionless in their room, and a Sharingan in the shape of a three-pointed shuriken move through his mind. When the flashes end, Sasuke scowls at the ground and clenches his fist.

I remember, we were sleeping in cars, we were searching for OZ

We were burning cigars with white plastic tips 'til we saw the sun

And we said crazy things like

Sakura, whose color has faded, too, is walking through her house as flashes of young girls bullying her, her mother gazing down at her with hidden in disappointment, and her staring at a picture of her father run through her head. When the flashes end, Sakura punches a wall making it crack slightly.

I refuse to look back thinking days were better

Just because they're younger days

Naruto continues to run until he comes across Hinata crouching on the ground. Hinata looks up at Naruto meeting his bright blue eyes with her pale, tearful ones. They start to regain color as Naruto smiles and holds out to Hinata who smiles slightly as her tears dry up.

I don't know what's 'round the corner

Way I feel right now I swear we'll never change

Sasuke continues walking until he comes across Sakura next to a slightly cracked wall. Sakura looks at him meeting her lime green eyes with his dark onyx eyes. They, too, regain color as Sakura smiles and holds her hand out to Sasuke who gives her a small smile in return.

Swore we would never die

You and me were kids

Swear that we'll never die

A split view of Hinata taking Naruto's hand and Sasuke taking Sakura's hand is shown. Both pairs of kids are running through the village; Hinata being dragged by Naruto and Sasuke being dragged by Sakura. They continue moving until they come across each other in a busy intersection of the Leaf Village; Naruto standing in front of Sasuke and Hinata standing in front of Sakura.

Slowly, everyone's flashes of pain-filled memories appeared behind their heads, but they slowly began to fade out. They all give big smiles to each other and as a group, they run through the village, then through a forest, and finally stopping on the Hokage Monument.

You and me were kids

The opening ends with them standing on the Hokage Monument; Hinata will a small smile, Naruto with a large grin, Sasuke with a small smirk, and Sakura with a huge smile. The backs of the kids are shown as the sun shines over all four of them.
